As for the post above the above post...

I was unaware some people needed help in order to tell the difference between a statement of opinion and a statement of fact. I've never needed it.

I don't think it's about not knowing it's someones opinion, more of a pleasantry for me, but then again it's like sarcasm it's hard to read on the internet, plus some are too stupid to catch sarcasm offline as well. :p

I generally disagree with the far right because they are for the most part misinformed jerks who just want to hate everyone, except ironically enough, Hitler. At the same time I've never been sold on things like paying taxes or having citizenship making someone a nationality as this kind of overlooks the cultural and ethnic distinctions which are pretty much what countries were originally based on. This, as well as the fact that this viewpoint seems to only work with people coming into western countries, not going out makes me a little hesitant to buy into it fully. IMO <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> an immigrant can be British, but just living somewhere and filling out the paperwork does not make one British if that makes sense.

But then, I am also suspicious of multiculturalism since I am not sure it's the warm and fuzzy lets all get along philosophy that has been advertised and is probably far more based on economics and the wealthy wanting to make sure there is a significant amount of people willing to work crap jobs for crap money than it is based on any altruistic vision of a united world based on love and understanding of all people. In my book, there's a definite distinction. An Indian family (or a family from anywhere else, just going for an example here) who move to Britain, bring up their children as Brits, and generally try to include themselves in society is perfectly welcome, in my book. Regardless of what their tax-paying or working circumstances may be.

Whereas a Polish family (again, example) who have clearly come here for the money, don't even teach their kids English or bother to learn it themselves, and bugger off again when they've got enough to make a good living for themselves in Poland... they can **** off.

Having said that, I have noticed it's exponentially easier to migrate TO Britain than it is to migrate FROM it, especially to places I might actually want to go to. Sure, it's fairly easy to get into Australia, but has anyone tried migrating to Finland or the USA lately? Jesus... It's almost like they have border controls and systems in place to stop you or something. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png">

Let's be fair here, *someone* has to do those jobs, and most Brits these days come out of University with a degree in something completely impractical which - to them - gives them a right to sit on their arse and collect benefits while "waiting for the right job" (of which there are about 20 in the country, which is probably less than the number of people who graduated from their course). Seriously, what are you going to DO with that degree in Archaeology?

I definitely don't subscribe to the 'they're taking our jobs' theory. If the people who keep moaning about being unemployed actually WANTED to work, there wouldn't BE any jobs for "them" to take.

All that said, my car (with me in it), and a dude I know both on different occasions got attacked by mobs of muslims so maybe that has just left me a little cynical and less welcoming.

Well, yeah. There are always some. To be fair though, we do provoke them incessantly (as a society. I don't go around slapping them with fish), and there are just as many cases of immigrants being attacked by gangs of chavvy white men, or black guys. It's not as if everyone is up in arms about "those bloody Christians" every time a mob of British youths does something wrong (I know aforementioned youths are unlikely to actually be a practising Christian, but being Arabic doesn't make you a practising Muslim either).

Also statistically, not sure your France theory stacks up. Look at this:

http://popculturedude.com/images/DSCF9912.JPG

What grinds my gears is when people see stuff like this, see a name, recognize a surname and say, "Hey, are you related to this guy? I found this listing on eBay". In this case, yes, it's my father (the guy to the right of the dude in the white suit). But, knowing my father and I were not on good terms (which this person does know), why even ask? Do you not think I have all of their albums, whether I want to or not? If I didn't, do you think I'd actually be the least bit interested in buying it, knowing that my father and I were not on good terms? Yeah, let's bring the ol' man back from the dead and plant him in my thoughts. That sounds like a great idea!

People without enough brain cells to function in a human society....

Today, while at work, I take a phone call. Lady asks for the number to "the mall" in the town about 25 miles from where my store is located (though technically still part of the greater metropolitan area.)

I tell her I have no way of knowing, as we're a furniture store, and also not located in the town of the place she's looking for.

She asks if I could look it up for her. Says she doesn't know the number, and is "calling businesses in the area to see if anyone can tell her."

I suggest she use 411/information. She has the audacity to act like somehow that would be inconvenient.

Did I mention that this happened while I was on my lunch break?

This stems from a conversation on facebook.

People who ride someone's ass on the road.

When someone rides my ass for going "too slow", I slow down even more. I generally go the speed limit or five over. Apparently, that's not fast enough. Someone claims I'm in the wrong for doing that, but it's better than me break checking the idiots riding my rear bumper.

Also, seriously, just because you drive a big truck, it doesn't give you the right to drive like a d-bag.

Which of course put me in the wrong, and she began suggesting ways I could find it. At which point I told her that I couldn't help her any further.

Hipsters.

Oh, you liked something "before it was cool"? Good for you.

Also, people who like/dislike something because it's popular. Why is it so hard for people to like what they like and not have other people's opinion of it matter?

I like what I like whether it's popular or not. I enjoy what I enjoy. Why is that such a difficult concept for people?

I've disliked the stuff that's popular since I was kid, mainly because it was often so expensive, my mother wouldn't buy it. So when everyone was wearing Polo, I was wearing Tommy Hilfiger. Then when Tommy caught on, I wore Perry Ellis and Liz Claiborne. (Mind you, this was because Marshall's sold it so it was MUCH cheaper than it would ordinarily be). Likewise with Nike, I couldn't get the Jordans of the time (the ones with the lizardskin upper) so I had to make do with Reebok. The last pair of Nikes I've owned were the first edition Cortez when I was 10. Of course, I ruined them after getting a particularly nasty scrape in football practice and bled all over them (unknowingly, until it was too late. How do you NOT notice blood dripping down your arm?). I'm still a Reebok devotee to this day. But I started wearing UnderArmour almost solely due to

years ago. Love that track to death.

Anyway, I don't tend to dislike things because they're popular. I dislike them because when they get popular, they get a hell of a lot more expensive. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> So I tend to go with the "unknown" that's "just as good" (wtf, I sound like a PARENT. IMO the worst kind of hipsters are video game hipsters, aka the people who hate on games like Call of Duty (or in some cases, all FPS games) just because it is the most popular game in the world right now. You don't like FPS games? That's fine. You don't like Call of Duty? Fine. But when people start insulting people who play a popular game, then you know that they are just hating it because it is popular. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> I bet that if the internet was around/as huge as it is today back when Mario came out, people would be freaking out about how platforming games are all repetitive and are ruining the industry. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

You do not have to be a hipster to hate on call of duty. I know bunch of guys who really hate it, not because it is popular, but for 13 year old engine, bugs, no realism and indeed bad hit detection. There are thousands of reasons why this game is mediocre at best, but nobody should hate on something they would never manage to create.

So I went to a charity event yesterday. It was an all day festival. Rock n Run festival. There was a 5k run and all day music to benefit the Special Olympics.

Great cause no? Well tel that to the idiot who was so drunk he couldn't realize what the letters VIP meant.

We had VIP only seating, and were able to go right up to the stage. Some douche wanted to cause me trouble because I was enjoying myself. Nothing wrong with a female dancing while drinking wine. He was very rude because I didn't pay for my glass of wine, then when he was told he wasn't allowed by the stage (I was the only one there at the moment) he went off. Not on the guard, but on me. Too bad the idiot got kicked out before the good stuff even started. :)

I've never liked FPS games for the most part, and this is starting from the Doom era. Borderlands and Left 4 Dead are about the only exceptions I have. It's not because they are popular, it's just that I find it difficult to get into that type of game. Personal preference. If that makes me a hipster, so be it. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
