shipshirt
I use the settings found here 90% of the time (I just turn the distant light up to 50% or so instead). http://greywulf.net/2011/01/building-a-better-default-light-set-for-daz-studio/ It's usually perfect but on some (like the Rick Law render) it causes a darker shadow on the left side, so I have to play around with it. I plan to re-light Rick when I get back this week.

sockpuppet
On the topic of lighting, what is everyone using these days? I have 2 colored distant lights, a white distant light for backlighting, a spotlight and UberEnvironment2 at the 4X setting. I've found that this setup, along with tweaking the specularity on the textures, gives me about as realistic a look as I'm apt to get in DAZ. Distant Light 1 X Trans: 0 Y Trans: 0 Z Trans: 0 X Rot: -17.44 Y Rot: 21.31 Z Rot: 0 Shadow Type: Raytrace Shadow Softness: 50% Color 48, 98, 121 Intensity 150% Distant Light 2 X Trans: 0 Y Trans: 0 Z Trans: 0 X Rot: 12.11 Y Rot: -25.96 Z Rot: 0 Shadow Type: Raytrace Shadow Softness: 50% Color: 112, 0, 0 Intensity: 65% Backlight X Trans: 0 Y Trans: 0 Z Trans: 0 X Rot: 0 Y Rot: -151.48 Z Rot: 0 Shadow Type: Raytrace Shadow Softness: 72.8% Intensity: 200% Spotlight X Trans: 119.15 Y Trans: 218.11 Z Trans: 167.25 X Rot: -17.19 Y Rot: 37.01 Z Rot: 0 Shadow Type: Raytrace Shadow Softness: 100% Intensity: 15% UberEnvironment2 Intensity: 40% Environment Mode: Occlusion w/ Directional Shadows ------------------------------------------------------------ I also stick with a limited number of character textures, mainly the Elite series, some of the new Genesis characters, Rebelmommy's Vixens and RMTH lines, Reciecup's texutres and the Modern Muses series. Boltinho
Retexture of some older ones. No offence, but alot of your old renders lacked good lighting and because of that many of their features weren't that distinctive. The Greed you've done here is an improvement (IMO) because now I can better see his unique features and see what sets him apart. Also the change of pose is nice too because you've a habit of just having the picture be a straight ahead shot of the person. One final thing, If you'll bare the criticism...don't be afraid to experiment more with facial features; you've a tendency, for example, to use the same kind of nose over and over again on your renders. Bull
Great stuff sir. Any chance of Joss as a PNG please? I would but I actually forgot to save those in daz, sorry. I may try and just cut out the blue background if it will help you though. Marked improvement here Bull. None taken, even i didn't much care for many of my first renders, because of the same reasons. I've been trying to do work on the posing. back when I first started I was just trying to get them in the same pose as the original and it mostly just ended up with them being straight ahead shots without much personality to them. As far as the nose thing goes, I didn't realize it until you mentioned it but I do tend make the settings pretty well the same for everyone. It'll be something to work on in future renders. James Casey
Bull, just wanted to say that there's some outstanding work here. I may finally cave in and hire Jean Cattley with that Mean Machine alt - it's that good. I love your Nigel Svensonn as well, and that John Greed is superb. Is there any chance of you producing a Greed with slightly redder hair, though? In my mind his hair's sort of rusty-ish
crayon
Agreed with your latest work being fantastic, Bull. As usual from me, do you happen to have any of your latest stuff on transparent? Primarily the Mean Machines, but I'm definitely not adverse to the rest

Primarily the Mean Machines, but I'm definitely not adverse to the rest I have been trying to make sure that I save my work in daz so that I can go back and save them as png for you crayon. I haven't forgotten I promise I've mainly been going back and redoing much of my old work since people seem to be liking the lighting and look of what I've been doing recently, but as soon as I make it through those I will go back and the ones that I do have saved in daz I will make pngs for you. Here is Greed with redder hair, I don't know if its exactly what your after, and if its not just tell me and I'll try and work on it some more. shipshirt
I wanted to relight Rick Law and then messed up and completely overwrote my file. But sometimes having to start over from scratch again is a good thing as I like this rendition of Rick much better (and he's not so...shiny) http://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r219/jkeats/ricklaw2-1.jpghttp://i145.photobucket.com/albums/r219/jkeats/RickLaw3-1.jpg

Inky is someone I've never touched, not even negotiated with, but now I'm tempted. Just goes to show how important renders are in this game. Adds more than you'd think. The others look good too. Can't say I see anything else I would use to replace the current pack I have installed though. They would make fantastic new worker pics though. Great work artists, can't wait to get my comp running so I can be part of the experience.
