i think its all of the lines and angles on the faces, mostly around the cheek and jaw area. they are very distinct or defined rather and maybe that is where everyone is getting the "they looked scrunched up" from. maybe if the angles where a little more subtle they wouldn't look that way.

i tried to smooth some of the angles on the face of Matt here, to see if that is what people where talking about when they said ewanite's pics look scrunched. IMO when the angles on the face aren't as defined they don't look as scrunched. I hope this helps.

1st one looks like HER, the 2nd one looks like her as Sarah Palin (from that Halloween ep of AotS, remember?). 3rd one (also 2nd) is welcome as I've almost NEVER seen her (Olivia, not the render) with that kind of hair before.

I think this is one of those cases where reality is unrealistic

 

Chiselled works for some guys - John "Jefferson Stardust" Morrison for example really is as chiselled as that. For most guys, probably the smoother look would work.

 

That said, I'm not about to complain as some of these pictures are just amazing - and the variety is kind of cool. We have at least three options for the Bumfholes, and four for Marc DuBois now!

 

I may have to co-opt a DuBois for Raphael... like I've always done anyway If anyone wants to add Raph to their list, I for one would love to have him. His current pic is a bit too goofy.

I love all of Self's new females. All of them.

 

And since I practically begged for jtlant's renders to be included in the default (and used a lot of them in the 70s mod) I think its obvious I'm a huge fan of those as well.

 

ewanite's are a little hit and miss imo. Part of it is that I've played TEW since forever so I'm hyper attached to the original renders. Part of it is that the faces seem a little pinched (especially aorund the nose) and one-note.

 

Love that BBS and Everest is amazing. (that should be the default pic) And the fact that you're cranking these out after doing this for only a few days means that the renders you do in the future will be ridiculously good.

 

This is a great project, though. Looking forward to seeing more.

In lieu of takling over the thread with a pointless argument, I'll simply state I believe it's perfectly acceptable to describe something purporting to be a person as ugly if it contains unnatural angles and features, that I wouldn't be commenting on those renders if they weren't included in the commercial product and the fact that they are included means that harsh criticism isn't unacceptable and that I will agree to disagree with people who think I'm wrong.

 

 

I think you have every right to critique a product you paid for pics. People take exception however when you use words like 'ugly' because the renders themselves are basically donated by artists who are doing a favor to the community.

 

Their work - from the very beginning - was something that TEW was lucky to have. Without those first renders given away freely, I seriously doubt that TEW would be as successful as it has been.

 

I like sebs' renders, his masked characters are some of the most unique and detailed in the game and his style has worked brilliantly for several editions of TEW before this.

And I've always thought of the 'new' Eric Eisen as a sort of less cool just-getting-beefed-up Triple H - don't ask why. T-Rex? Not that I'm putting in any requests of course...

I like the original the best but thats just me it looks "less polished" which is the point of the character.
