So, between running to pack things, having my car fixed due to a mix-up during my oil change yesterday, other errands, and impromptu plans tonight, the show has not gotten done yet. I will post it before I go to bed tonight/this morning, and that is a promise (even if it's 4:00 am local time before I get to bed).

I will likely have week 2's show on Wednesday next week to allow for the shortened training window that would otherwise be in effect, and week 3 will resume the normal Tuesday schedule.

It is the pinnacle of the sport, the light at the end of a months-long journey. It is a pinnacle reached by few, but coveted by many. For four seasons, men and women have fought to get here, to become the one known simply as "champion."

Tonight, the fifth campaign begins, a long and winding road spanning five months...eighteen matches...and for one person, the tale of their road to glory.

Tonight, we return once more to the stage of history. For tonight is the night that The League begins once again.

THE LEAGUE: SEASON FIVE, OPENING WEEK</div>

Despite the chilly weather outside, the building used to host the figure skating championship during the Winter Olympics is packed to capacity as the pyro explodes in a massive conflagration, signaling to one and all that the new season is indeed upon us. As the display fades, we cut to ringside and our usual three-person commentary crew.

Bob Sinclair: Welcome, everyone, to the fifth season of the wrestling promotion that dares to throw all of the silly storylines out the window in order to bring you a good old-fashioned fight! This is The League! I'm Bob Sinclair, joined at ringside by my two partners at the commentary table, Frankie "The Real Deal" Garnett and Tori Montgomery. Guys, tonight starts a whole new chapter in League history. What are you looking at coming in to the evening?

Frankie Garnett: For me, it's real simple. How much hell will Thor Hammerskald raise after coming close last season, only to fall in the semifinals? I've watched him over the last couple of weeks, during our offseason, and the man looks ready to rip apart anyone who stands in his way!

Tori Montgomery: I've got my eye on several stories, Bob. The first one is Nuclear Templeton. This is a man who reached the Championship match, only to fall short in the end in each of the last two seasons. I'll be very interested to see where he is mentally coming into this season. The second one is the ongoing saga with The Phoenix and his estranged wife. For those of you who watched the playoffs last season, you'll remember that Phoenix's wife, Te'Snilo Bradenbury, basically left the man in the ring after failing to win the championship last season. I've yet to receive word from League HQ about how that situation will be handled, but you have to think that it would affect his mindset coming into tonight, Bob.

Bob Sinclair: Not to mention that we have a new League Champion, and the pressure now lies on him to defend his title, especially with everyone in The League looking to take over the spot from him. In any event, folks, we're about ready for our first match of the night, so let's head to the in-ring voice of The League, Amelia Williams, to get us underway!

Disturbed's "Indestructible" hits the arena as one of this season's rookies emerges from the back, looking surprisingly at ease despite the hard beat of the song. Jumping onto the apron from the floor, he steps between the ropes and calmly waits for the bell to get the match underway.

Amelia Williams: Ladies and gentlemen, our opening contest of Season Five is an Alpha Division contest scheduled for one fall! Introducing first, from the Island of Tria, weighing 205 pounds...Eidenhoek Gaiaspade!

Bob Sinclair: Gaius is a heavy underdog according to our online poll posted earlier today, guys. Only 3% of the voters see him winning this match.

Frankie Garnett: I am one of the 3%, Bob. No way in hell that fat boy is ready to deal with The League.

Tori Montgomery: Gaius can be dangerous at any time; we'll have to see if he catches his opponent at a bad time tonight.

Within Temptation's "Stand My Ground" hits the arena speakers as a League Original emerges from the back, through a wall of flame pyro. His face gives no emotions away as he walks to the ring, shadowboxing as he stops at the ring steps. A moment later, he slams both fists into the top step before looking up the heavens with a cry of "For the Fallen" coming from his lips. With no further ado, he steps between the ropes, ready to go to war once again.

Amelia Williams: His opponent, from the End of Nowhere, weighing 337 pounds...this is The Phoenix!

Frankie Garnett: ...What in the hell kind of music is that?

Tori Montgomery: Within Temptation. Not a bad band, actually. I went to see them in concert a few months back; well worth the time.

Bob Sinclair: He doesn't seem to be missing his wife out there, from what I can gather....

The theme to Samurai Pizza Cats plays as a van painted red with the words "Pizza Wagon" on the side comes down to ringside. Emerging from the van, the former backyard wrestler is seen in his trademark Pizza Hut uniform and new tights that resemble a cheese pizza on the left side, and a shot of PM3 bashing the Noid in the face with a chair. Reaching into the van to pull out a Pain Pizza, he hands it off to one lucky fan at ringside before hopping over the top rope and entering the ring to the cheers of the fans in attendance.

As he hits the end of the entrance ramp, he throws his arms into the air, sending a pair of mushroom clouds into the air from the stage as he makes his way to the ring and through the ropes.
