Londonverse: Diary of Harry Vedder (Preview)

I started wrestling when I was 12. I'd been watching re runs on the Tele since I could remember, my da yelling advice and treating it like it was boxing or the footy.

One day he took me to see a local show at the community centre and we got chatting to one of the guys. Turned out he ran it as some live practice for his training dojo, Back alley wrestling.

<img alt="36038388464_2d57a13e75_o.jpg" data-src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4387/36038388464_2d57a13e75_o.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

I've always been tall for my age but with a fair brawn about me you know? Anyways he asked if I fancied trying it out, my pa was gonna say no until he offered the first couple sessions free like, and then he signed be right up.

And I never looked back...

By 14 I was mixing it with the biggest adults on the books and competing in the monthly community shows around the county.

I was even primed to take over the back ally Championship, Sami (the trainer) had me eyeing one of the local Scottish promotions.

He used to say, "boy, you have a rare gift. Your growing into some fair looks at least for this line of work, but looks is two a penny these days, you need something which has been lacking in the Industry of late. Charisma and presence. One day I'm a be switching on the box to see you standing tall amongst the top of this business holding the gold aloft, you mark my words".

Of course being a teenager you think your the centre of the world anyway, having such reafirmation only makes it the sweeter.. I confess my ego did get the better of me for awhile, but then I always seemed able to up my game to carry it off. I'd like to think I've found more balance, but f*ck it I'm still only 16.

Anyways, I was all set to begin my rise to stardom... When I got told we were moving abroad, bugger.

My depression lifted when they told me we were moving to America, could this be it I thought all my stars aligning at once...

But no. The fall when it came was huge, North West America, the sh*tty black hole for wrestling in the states. Not a single named company based there.

I settled in, house was okay. Neighbours fine, language odd at times but I found some fellow wrestling buddies and all looked rosy.

I started wrestling at school and going to weekly pro shows at the weekend.

I turned 16 in January two months into this American move.

I got talked into taking part in a local show, was great fun and I got over with the fans, (all 85 or so). The booker asked me to join them again next time out and I couldn't wait.

Imagine my surprise when at the end of the show the booker says there's someone he would like me to meet...

Memphis f*cking King man, I mean yeah okay I was never a massive fan of his or anything, but he is a real life pro... Turns out retirement doesn't sit with him, he is opening a North West company, The Memphis King Wrestling Company, and he wants me to sign up as a future prospect.

Man I am starting to really believe the stars are aligned for me, I've finished school, no college lined up, this is it. All in on becoming a star!

My name is Harry Vedder and this is my story

Rather than bump two threads to the top, I figured it would be easier to post this here. As of right now, my two diaries, WWE: State Of War [Modern Day] and USPW: Life In Reverie, have gone on hiatus. I have just not been feeling into them here lately. Oh shit man. I'm hear for you if you need me. Don't feel any pressure about it -- honestly, you'd probably be better taking a break from USPW/modern day-WWE.

I'd love to see you take on WCW at some point -- I think early WCW suits you really well, and it would provide inspiration.

Hang in there man. You'll be okay.

I'm currently trying to build a c-verse based database, but it is set 2 years from the 2016 default start.

Notable editions:

SWF - desperate to compete (And actually beat) with USPW, January 2017 saw Jerry Eisen stepping down as booker, being replaced with Victoria Stone. Stone wanted a new challenge (With Jeremy Stone's blessing, and immediately as a result they signed a NAP with NOTBPW excluding Sean McFly), and Rich Eisen was desperate to go in a new direction.

This saw the likes of Tommy Cornell, Sean McFly joining the SWF roster. Tommy Cornell made an immediate impact. In fact, 2017 saw one of the most lauded matches in SWF history when Tommy Cornell faced Eric Eisen in a brutal "I Quit" match at Supreme Challenge. Eric Eisen gained a lot of respect when he was brutally beaten, covered in blood & actually wrestled through a Torn quad that he suffered in a match 2 days earlier. SWF also signed some Lucha stars and Puroresu talent (Similar to Triple H's talent initiative in WWE). A women's division was started & even a cruiserweight division is in the works.

USPW - continued the raid of SWF talent such as Skull DeBones, Valiant, and Lobster Warrior between 2016 and 2018. Nothing of note happened until late 2017, an NWO-esque stable was formed with with almost everyone that jumped ship in the talent raids (Chris Morrisette (Lobby), Rich Money, Steve Frehley, and Val Villain (Valiant)). The formation of this group put a lot of momentum in the direction of USPW maintaining their pole position in the American wrestling scene.

TCW - nothing of note other than Peter Michaels taking over the promotion, in hopes to utilize his wrestling business expertise to help compete with the other two.

I just want to know if what I'm building would be too implausible for C-verse canon (This is non-canon anyway, but if there is any implausibilities, just let me know). The only thing that immediately comes to mind is Tommy Cornell signed a 10-year contract with 21CW at the start of 2015 & the fact that Victoria Stone would take any sort of money to join SWF.

A French Wrestling Diary

Hello everyone,

I'm considering writing a diary for my ICWA run, where I basically try to make french wrestling relevant using only... well, french wrestlers and the occasional guests, but might add french-speaking foreigners in the future if I really get big. Buuut, I have a few questions first:

1) Is there any tips when it comes to write matches for unknown wrestlers ? My main problem is that, while I do imagine pretty quickly how I want it to go (aka "It'll be an open match, where A the main eventer is the most dangerous but B, a young upper midcarder, is still putting some good offense but eventually A counters B's finisher and wins"), I don't know how to give it more "flesh" so that every match doesn't read the same after a while. And since I'm using mostly unknown wrestlers, I can't rely on the readers picturing by themselves how a Ragnar Rok vs Jack Spayne would go the same way they would for a Rusev vs Matt Hardy. (Alternatively, if one of you really loves to write matches but doesn't feel like writing all the rest, we can talk :D )

2) How much infos would you ideally need about the workers ? I intend to develop their personalities with promos, etc, but I think it would be easier for you to understand that Pauline destroying Bulla Punk is an impressive feature if you know what the two look like. Same goes for the finishers, etc: if I tell you Dick Riviere uses the 3 Chord Song to end the match, you won't imagine it as easily as if I told you before the 3 Chord Song is really a Lionsault.

Additionally, how important would pictures be in the shows ? Not surprisingly perhaps, some of the guys in the mods are difficult to find pictures for, even more pictures the right size. Even in TEW, one or two have terrible pictures, not to mention the backgrounds are anything but the same for each, and I'd hate to make it look ridiculous or to bother people asking for help making it "clean" (I'm trying to make it by my own, but let's say I have no talent for this and leave it at that :D )

3) Is there someone who would like to "coach" me and work as a beta reader (or maybe even a co-booker, helping with match aims and crowd control), so that I make it last long enough to get to the good stuff and the PPV concepts I found when I was bored ? I already have the storylines more or less prepared (maybe not down to the details, but that would make for a more interesting read if everything isn't too set in the stone), and once I've found a good way to write matches, I should have a few shows to post the following week, but a second opinion from an experienced player/writer is always welcome and useful.

Waiting to hear back from the Mod creator, but hoping to do the following dynasty.

<img alt="FEcYf3q.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/FEcYf3q.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

- I've been listening to the Something to Wrestle with podcast from episode one and was always intrigued by the Brother Lover character so I figured this could be fun. I'll be playing the game as Bruce Prichard (Booker) working for Vince McMahons WWF. I wouldn't call this a continuation of the "New Generation" that'd just begun in the WWF, though I will be introducing a lot of young new talent. Most all will get repackaged with new gimmicks and characters, even new names.

- I've made a few alterations to the database. For example, the Bret Hart injury in the original Hulkamania Extreme Edition database has been changed so that he has a lifetime injury and will never return to in-ring action.

Just a few things to make playing as WWF more interesting.

There are a few small mistakes (mainly for french wrestlers outside ICWA though), and I had to create the titles from scratch, but it's there, you just need to reactivate it (same goes for the Association Bitteroise de Catch, if you prefer them).

I've spent literally months researching Europe for the Mod Squad historical releases, good to see someone giving France a run in 2017. I suppose with Europe the obvious advice is to steer clear of nation vs nation angles. Seeing as unlike the US, Europe learned it's lesson in the 40s. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Actually, I have one guy whose gimmick consists of him thinking you can only succeed abroad as a French wrestler if you are acting the stereotypical French heel seen in the US (René Dupree, Jean-Paul Levesque, etc), with a huge dose of dishonesty <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

But yes, I won't have the public chanting "FRANCE ! FRANCE ! FRANCE !", don't worry haha. It'll be more "gimmicky" than patriotism, and the only "patriotic" character I have is a Breton not unlike a face Sheamus/Finlay, and will not use it as a way to feel superior.

ZEN and the Art of Staying Classy - Coming Soon!

cKPymkL.jpg

“You hear that?”

The unmistakable snapping of jandals echoes in the lobby of the ZEN Temple, as Halloween Knight and Cyanide sit in a back office waiting for their guest to arrive.

4vZV2lN.jpg

ZEN’s current booker responds to the question from the company’s owner with only a slight nod, too busy playing with a grotesque jack-in-a-box on his boss’ desk to make a noise.

“He’s here…you think he’ll accept?”

A small shrug is Cyanide’s reply this time, and even though he is wearing a mask, the change in Knight’s body language shows he is clearly annoyed by the lack of conversation from his long-time confidant.

“Well, he better. I didn’t put us through that Kickstarter just to piss it all away.”

The click-clacking of the jandals gets closer, and it seems both men in the room hold their breath waiting for the door knob to turn.

“I mean, would you turn down the booker position if I offered it to you?”

After a long pause, Cyanide can only answer with, “Yeah-nah bro, I mean how could I, eh.”

Before Halloween Knight can let loose his anger at his current booker, ‘Classy’ Paul Massey pokes his head into the office.

“How’s it going HK?”

Okay, so going to go all out here and go through an idea I've had for awhile no, basically for people on the board to answer my questions. This is for the C-Verse by the way, just so you know.

So, I was playing a Lucha Libre company and I liked it. It was strictly a matches playthrough so no angles or stories to speak of. After awhile, I wanted to make it a diary, but with no stories to tell I decided to come up with a new idea.

We all have heard of Kanzen Pro, one of the default yet to open companies in the C-Verse, well my idea was to open it in Mexico with basically the same product as my new diary. Slightly modified to my liking but nonetheless still a promotion that has Lucha Comedy or as I call it Fun Lucha product. The characters would be goofy, bitta comedy here, bitta fun there, something very light hearted that I could just write complete and utter absurdity and it would be perfectly fitting for that writing. However, like any other diary I do, I have a few rules I have to abide by. Well, not rules but I guess guidelines and I'll go through these now.

1) Owner will be Spanish Superfly and Booker (Avatar) will be Atlantis Jr. Superfly has a preference for Traditional Wrestling (or Traditional Lucha) which mean he wants the masks, colours, wrestling etc while Atlantis like realistic wrestling (These are canon, I checked their business tabs). This will create tension between the two.

2) As such, due to Superfly wanting proper Lucha and Atlantis not wanting that, Atlantis outta spite will be ramping up the Lucha to 11. Aka, more bright colours, gimmicky characters, ultra face/heel divide, everything lucha but to the extreme.

3) Again referring to 1, all in ring talent have to have a mask to wrestle in Kanzen, now that doesn't limit me to masked workers. AKA I can sign throw Superfly under a mask and have him wrestle (I won't be, he's the road agent, but it was an example) but if you lose your mask in a Luchas de Apuestas (Mask vs Mask match) then you can not be an active wrestler on the Kanzen roster. Basically, Superfly wanted Lucha and Atlantis said "Oh, I'll show you lucha"

4) Known talent is a no go. So, if somebody has a reputation around the boards as being an excellent talent such as El Mitico, then I can't sign them. For three reasons, 1, I like to work with fresh workers all the time, 2, I like a challenge and 3, I'm going to start with 10k, I won't have the luxury of signing whoever I want. Plus, this is only at the beginning. I can sign whoever I want once I begin making a bit of money.

5) I can only sign unemployed workers at the beginning. So, my initial roster will be with workers who start unemployed.

6) Middleweight is the biggest I can hire. Nothing heavier than that.

That's basically it. Oh, and all the matches would be told through Atlantis' eyes too, so it's be more analysis than a summary of what happened.

Now for the questions, I have two.

1) Would anybody be interested in what I just described?

2) I've asked this before but, I have two diaries, is three too many or do you think three is manageable as long as you have the drive?

This is the place where we'll begin: January 2001, four weeks out from the Royal Rumble.

Some of the big questions and possible changing points:

Will McMahon still the buy the competition? Hopefully some of you might be interested to check it out and not dismissive based on previous short-lived project.

For a variety of reasons I don't have nearly as much time as I did while I was diary writing previously, so it might take me a bit to get this going.
As you get older you often reflect on the career you had. Was it enough? Could you have done more? I was perhaps never the best at any one thing, but the fans got behind me. I was a member of a revolution that failed and instead of call it a day I joined another.

The injuries mounted and looking at an almost thirty year career I feel there is little left I can give in the ring. I have spilled too much blood. I have had too many sleepless nights from the pain I was in. And yet I felt like I couldn't give enough. I sometimes wondered if I would die in the ring.

Then the boss had a different offer. To continue the revolution when my aging body was failing me and I couldn't complete it in the ring.
