Yes! A ZEN thread! Australia's haven for weirdos and outcasts who DON'T want to get beat about the head by the Comedian with sundry weapons!

Who are your must-hires?

What storylines do you run?

Exactly why are you not pushing Kalliope Woodchuck to the moon?

How many times must we shake our fists at RAW for taking our beloves Mirror Universe John Gordon away?

You know what was embarrassing for me (that I'm about to share publicly)?

I only realised recently that ZEN is just "En Zed" switched around.

I think it's time to show some national pride again and play New Zealand's finest in TEW2016!

My mind has just been blown by this revelation!

(I wish I was joking, but I never realised either...)

It is going to take some getting used to with Necromancer, MUJG, Massacre, X-Calibre and Alex Arturro gone. They will probably be one of the promotions I try out once the full game comes out. I feel as if I should bring in Moonchild just to team him with Blue Flea so they can have stoner/hippy adventures.

While tooling around in the Beta, I had a few must Zen hires. Black Flash seems made for ZEN, especially now that he's been released by RAW. Surfer Dude Lucas is a surprisingly good prospect. Maybe he can go on those trips with Blue Flea. And this year, Hugh de Aske is available in Australia. He needs to feud and then eventually side with Devilfish and Man O War.

Anybody have any hints or tips on how to get to regional size without going back down to small size before the month is over? It's happened to me three times now and I'm incredibly frustrated. I think this occured in TEW2013 as well but I still have no clue what I'm supposed to do. All my shows take place in NZ and I don't venture out to the other areas. Is that what kills the rise to regional size?

Also, after this third time I went to regional I quickly upped my production levels to see if I could get a broadcast deal and huzzah! I now show my events on Australia Options... I don't know if they'll drop me now though since I went back down to small size after getting the deal.

I hope that helps but that also means I lose money every month. Some sort of help would be appreciated and if I need to clarify anything else just ask. I know I'm not always very detailed when I'm upset but I love ZEN and I want to get to regional! Argh!

You're not involved in regional battles, are you? If you are and finish last you'll lose popularity at the end of the month, which would be the reason you always drop back down to small.

Another thing is the regional importance. Have you checked if the regional importance in the game world has dropped in NZ? If it has and you're just barely a regional promotion, your company's importance in NZ may have dropped just enough to bring you back down to small.

New to the game and playing as booker for ZEN. I ddn't have an issue with falling back to small. I was losing cash pretty hard. They start with a 500K nest egg which is nice. After a year and a half I had lost about 80K, but built momentum with a series of C and C+ shows. My second Way of the Warrior marked the point where I finally made money for a month. Unfortunately it also bumped me up to Regional. At that point it started a regional battle with APW and DIW. I kind of cheated and ran a show just to see what the penalties for not upgrading production were before reverting when I saw it took a C+ calibre show and dropped it to a D rating. I tried upgrading everything but the music, since that was the most expensive and ran C- shows for a couple months losing about 10K each time and realizing I was not growing revenue enough to have a chance in that manner. Ponying up for the Licensed music and Australia Options deal dropped the monthly losses to 20K, but improved ratings and added a cool source of revenue. After a couple months of that I did the math and realized I was around the breakeven point for a single show. That is the losses on the day of the event were negligible, but the huge monthly production costs were hurting (down to 350K total, so I added a second monthly event. This allowed a huge run of momentum (Including a couple B- shows) and in early year 3 I finally had another positive month. In May the success ramped up to bring in 20K and things are looking good going in to WoW.

I'm using Eye Candy matches to keep their popularity up and boost ratings, but that is probably stunting her overall growth.</p>

I've decided to dip my toe in a ZEN playthrough, and it's fun, though I admit I am struggling a bit with the Comedy match requirement. You'd think "Oh, easy enough, just pick the guys with Charisma in the 70s range or higher", but aside from Man O' War and Damian Dastardly, it seems to be a challenge for the roster.

<p>Trying again with Steven Yale as the booker. Running 2 weekly shows and an extra monthly show to get pop up. Getting a little better at comedy matches, as I've found that Pink Spider, Devilfish, and Shaolin also work well in those.</p><p> </p><p>

We're in March 2016, and I've added Marcus Kerr and Aussie Devil to the roster. Bruce Strange's contract just came up. Is there any reason to keep him? His Safety score is pretty good, but looking over the rest of his stats, it doesn't seem worth putting up with his attitude.</p>

No the Ghost Hunters are trash to be blunt. I would dump them.

Definitely check out MrWolf's and Pteroids ZEN diaries. They are amazing.

Some great thematic signings for ZEN.

Lothar Prellinger (My favourite C-Verse guy. He is a technical wrestler with a unique look. Pteroid's version of him in ZEN verse diary is amazing.)

Dazzler (Should help fill the comedy side and is a strong hand.)

Crazy Train(Okay just don't look at his wrestling ability. Just really don't look at it please. He is a gimmick machine.)

Molokai Milk (An MVP for any company not named RAW. He has great potential at ZEN. He is expensive though.)

Tyrant (His pirate gimmick has potential in ZEN. He looks great and is okay in the ring.)

Vaughan (He looks like a monster. One that could be contracted from the Mirror Universe)

Vortex (His look just fits ZEN.)

White Wasp (So young with so much potential. Has the superhero vibe to him.)

That's a good list, thanks, and I've actually looked at a few of them. I'm going to do a start over and, if needed, edit things to get CWA, Vertigo, and Strange out sooner. Maybe Hyde, too; he's not a negative influence, and yes, he's terrible, especially stamina, I want to like him. Trevor Feather is also one I've noticed you have to keep an eye on behavior-wise.

I did pick up Matt Stoppard though, and he's pretty good as a jobber in comedy matches, as his performance is good enough that he doesn't get dinged.

ZEN is one of the few companies where I've noticed a discernible benefit to using the Internet over DVD merchandise.

Alright, so I'm doing a casual save of ZEN, and I'm beginning to think about bringing back some ZEN alumni to wrestle in one-off matches working for either Cyanide or Halloween Knight. This would further their feuds with Devilfish and Pumpkin Jack, respectively. Which feud do you think would make more sense when it comes to bringing back ZEN alumni?

Why not both? If I remember correctly, both Cyanide and Halloween Knight have former tag partners who aren't with the company BUT available to hire. Bring them in, leading to a 4-on-2 assault. Maybe some hot up and coming babyfaces can throw in to help turn the tide...?

I feel a bit weird about using Massacre while the lore says he left recently to go to Japan. I was aiming for this storyline to bring back people who we haven't seen in a fairly long time.</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Well, as noted, Eraser and Jester are both alum, and being legbreakers for hire was their shtick. There's also the Horror Show- Slasher, Stalker, and the Anarchist. Any (or all) would work, I'd think.</p>

Which feud do you think would make more sense when it comes to bringing back ZEN alumni?</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><p> Firstly I think both Halloween Knight and Cyanide could be teaming up with each other. After all Knight and Cyanide were leaders of the F.E.A.R stable. So they could grab two guys to recreate that stable. But developing a four man stable with Cyanide and Halloween Knight at the helm could provide a lot of long term storylines. If you are looking strictly at Alumni that can be bought in as muscle or to hit back. (Note: I am going to mention guys already talked about.) </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Massacre - </strong>If he has been dropped by GCG, even though big man could make a strong pick up and return to ZEN. I don't think he would necessarily fit the role though. If he were to return I would prefer to see him get a dominant run around the Conceptual Title. That could happen after he teams up. </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Bile/The Anarchist -</strong> You mentioned the idea of using them and they are a former tag-team together so the pair could be a strong inclusion. They could definitely provide the muscle without their returns potentially overshadowing the over arching storyline.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Eraser/Jester -</strong> Another former tag-team that literally were known as The Mercs. The duo are their to get paid (Eraser) and cause pain for fun (Jester). Both again not going to overshadow the storyline and fit in nicely.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Lone Shark -</strong> Yes he is signed with APW, but Cyanide reaching into the MirrorVerse to bring an alternate (Evil) version of Lone Shark to face his former tag-team partner is perfect for the storyline. He is a big enough name to stay in the Main Event scene long term.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>The Horror Show (Nightmare Slasher/Nightmare Stalker) - </strong>These guys became jobbers, but they are a much more legitimate tag-team than the others listed. They both have some room to grow. They also fit right into the tag division after helping establish a feud.</p><p> </p><p> <strong>Reed Buckfield -</strong> Never really given the chance, if you find a goblin style mask you could use for him. He could potentially do decent enough in the mid-card. The only other main alumni you could potentially get from the list.</p><p> </p><p> If you want to keep Cyanide and Halloween Knight separate. Cyanide could tap into the MirrorVerse to get his mercenaries while Halloween Knight could purely sign them as the owner. If you only want one of them bringing in people. I would make it Halloween Knight. He is feuding with the future of ZEN so more talent for him to go over will help. Then grab one of the top two sets of tag-teams maybe from the MirrorVerse. They are more your muscle style guys.</p><p> </p><p> Other non-alumni options for muscle.</p><p> </p><p> The Affliction (Anguish/Misery)</p><p> Australian Devil (Though he is a face)</p><p> Ferdy Lloyd/Lerone Slim (The last of the ZEN Dojo and Proteges of Cyanide.)</p><p> The S&M Collection (Mauler and Smasher)</p>

<p>Hit Regional, so made a deal with Australia Options for events and our new 90 minute weekly show, Way Of The TV Star!; On Demand, unfortunately, but I set it for 3 months, so we might be able to renegotiate a better time slot in June.</p><p> </p><p>

Despite Vertigo going from "Very Negative" to "Negative" I let him walk with Bruce Strange when his contract came up. Might rehire the former when my stats in dealing with incidents improve. CWA got to neutral status, so he gets a stay of execution. Man O' War somehow became a negative influence, which is unfortunate, because he's a solid hand and has good chemistry with Kalliope Woodchuck, who needed a partner for her feud with Spider and Feather. Well, he's got 6 months on his contract to straighten up, as there are plenty of unemployed babyfaces on the Australian scene.</p><p> </p><p>

Pumpkin Jack is ZEN Master, Crazy Train is ZEN Conceptual Champion (yeah, I know, right?), and Pinkie And The Vane holding the ZEN Harmony straps.</p><p> </p><p>

Additions to the roster this time around include the aforementioned Train, the APP, the Horror Show, Dazzler, Black Flash, and White Wasp, with Owen Oldacre brought on as a second road agent, as we needed a locker room leader.</p>

<p>Annnd CWA turned back into a negative influence thanks to a botched move from Woodchuck. BUT his contract just came up again (had the foresight to only renew for 3 months) so he's taking a walk, and I will most likely float an offer to Artemis Eyre-Rochester, who was cut from RAW some months prior and has not been picked up by anybody yet.</p><p> </p><p>

NOTBPW dropped to Cult, so floated them an offer of a Working Agreement, which they accepted. Wanted to get some talented ladies available to work in Australia, with Sally Anne Christianson being the first, as her NOTBPW contract expires first, and there's a good chance they'll let her walk. Unfortunately, I didn't pay attention to their schedule, and their TV show is on the same night as my TV show, and their monthly events are on the same as my "main" monthly events. So, I added a temporary new weekly event- ZEN: Way Of Avoiding Scheduling Conflicts! Also had to shill out a good chunk of change, as they didn't seem to want ANY of my workers, even if I threw in some cash to sweeten the deal. And I was offering our "ring generals", too. It's not like I was trying to foist Crazy Train on them.</p><p> </p><p>

And it seems there's a definite cap on raising pop via internet, as we've stayed at 5 for a bit worldwide; I thought we had gotten 6 before growing to Regional, but I may be mistaken. I'll give it another week or two to be sure before switching back to DVD.</p>
