The GAMMA Thread

Recommended Posts

I try to grab all of the world ranked fighters I have weight classes for. I don't get them all but I grab as many as I can. Then I will use the recommended hires to get each weight class to around 40-50 fighters. After that the only way I throw a guy out is if you become unranked with 3 of the skull and crossbones symbols so I don't throw many out.

This usually gives me a nice balanced roster without so much overturn where I don't know who the guys are but allows me to remove some dead weight after time passes.

Yeah I've basically raided Alpha-1 except showed some restraint by leaving them with a few fighters that aren't ones I have to have like Archer and Kitson. I follow a different philosophy where I usually cut someone after 3 straight losses to unranked people or 4-5 losses surrounding a win. This has kept my roster pretty stable at the higher end of 50 people, but it gives people something to fight for at the bottom and I know people who can make runs from the bottom come in with high momentum and decent name value.

Yeah, that PPV deal is weird. It's strictly better deal then whatever you can 'unlock' later on.

Here's a hint: once I hit international pop I managed to get "The Rock" and the "Mean Machine" to come out of retirement for GAMMA 75. It's possible that you can immediately get them out and it could have little to do with company pop. Both are decent draws despite the losing streaks. Awesomesauce! (essentially I'm bringing back Carlton as a nostalgia act to throw foster a bone as he's been l000sing <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />).

I don't usually bother scouting individual prospects. I tend to hire young guns strictly based on their win-loss and momentum. If they suck when they hit the big leagues, then at least they can serve as a tune-up for some of my other dudes before I cut them. For scouting, I stick a scout with all the major North American teams and let them do work. I haven't noticed the cost so far, especially now that I'm on North American Prime Select and making money hand-over-fist.

Restraint is an interesting topic for GAMMA, though. Do you guys have any hiring rules you set for yourself? Generally, I try to avoid poaching international talent until they've reached High Level Regional in the US. (There are, of course, some guys I like that I always sign regardless.) I also try to keep each division stocked with at least 13 American fighters. I don't go looking to hire people unless a division gets under 25 fighters, but I will steal a fighter from ALPHA-1 if their contract comes up and they're a big enough star.

I never used to bother much with scouting either. I would just hire a prospect if their bio made them sound appealing and their skills - what I could see of them - matched. Even skills alone, in a lot of cases. But I got burned a few times. "Strong" physical skills could include atrocious cardio. Or they might have okay wrestling, but literally cannot prevent a takedown. Wasted some fights building up fighters who were never going to be legit top level fighters, when that effort could have instead been applied to more promising fighters. Scouting helps prevent that waste.

Why do you need more money though?

Changing the PPV carrier isn't worth the 10 seconds of effort.
Jeff Carlton dethroned Kel Ryan to win the SHW belt, he's now 3-0 since coming back from retirement. He'll face the resurgent Davey Rushton, who's 6-0 with 5 finishes, next.

James Foster regained his HW belt in a rematch against Rav Kapur, besting the brit to come away with a split decision. The rematch happened after Rav won his first title defense, against Gladstone Lopes, due to the lack of contenders. Ivanov was going to get the shot, but his win over Pike left a lot to be desired. James' first defense will be against the new signee Hassan Fezzik, who hasn't tasted defeat since his first fight with Terron Cabal.

Speaking of split decisions, Mike Watson managed to do just enough to earn the nod on two scorecards against Niko Soldo, he'll now face fellow canadian Anthony Letoussier, who won a #1 contender's match against William Harrison. The winner of that fight will face the winner of Rubenstein/Soldo.

The MW title has been a hot potato ever since Dean forfeited the belt in a stunning upset against the somewhat unknown Tora Mizwar, who then lost it in a minute against Buddy Garner, who in turn lost it in a back-and-forth fight to Braulio Moura. There isn't a clear contender as of yet, with Neil Napier losing a decision to late replacement Isaiah Monroe, who stepped in for an injured Adam White. A fight between Adam White and Ramon da Silva Ramos is most likely next, now that the latter broke into the top 10 after vanquishing his rival, Stuart Strange, with a second round Head Kick in what was the culmination of their 'nuclear' feud.

Jake Keane will look to make history in his next fight by trying to become the first fighter to have held a GAMMA belt in two different weight classes, Manuel Silva is no easy task however, the brazilian having turned away the last two men that tried to take his title. Jake became the #1 contender at WW overnight, after scoring a first round submission win over Julio Regueiro, who stepped in as a replacement after Keane's LW opponent pulled out. Since there were no LW fighters available, Jake went with the next best thing, and moved up a weight class, and it paid off. Regueiro then went on to lose another fight afterwards, to Nathan Chambers, but again, Julio was a short notice replacement, so that's something to take into account.

Fiyero Lermontov was crowned as the Fighter of the year after a 2002 campaign that saw him beat both Jake Keane and Luis Basora, the undefeated russian will now clash against Helio, who stopped Brandon Sugar with a spinning back kick in his last fight. A new contender might've been born when Lukas Mellberg managed to squeak out a win over Seth O'Breen, who was carrying some momentum after a win over the aforementioned Sugar into the match.

Philip Ziskie won the belt that a lot of people think should have been his from the start, taking Freddy Lomax's title from him with a decision win. It was far from a blowout though, with the youngster managing to steal a few rounds. Snorri Gunnarson will attempt to take home the title next.

Had a lot of fun with my Midlands events where Kapur and O'Neill defended their titles. It's not I matched them up with lesser contenders as it was Fezzik and Oliver (14-0, just back from retirement). The Brazil event had a bunch of Brazilian fighters on it and most won their matches. I welcomed DaGuia and some others to the roster, DaGuia knocking out Humphreys after losing the first 3 rounds. Exciting days ahead as they vie for the titles soon.

Will now start yet another season of COTT as the flyweight one concludes with a surprising winner in Jenny Gill. The next one will be for the MW division that just lost Dean as champion to Moura.

Made it through the summer. I've been running one monthly PPV and a TV show every couple of months. Saw a trick posted on the forum that I've started doing - throwaway TV shows to showcase the future stars doing some intense can crushing. They seem to gain more from this than being on the prelims, and putting them on the main card of a PPV can impact the company Credibility rating if the fight is unbalanced. Plus, it kinda makes sense to fill a free TV card with some fun, one-sided fights - not that I'm overly worried about being realistic.

Running a second season of COTT for Super Heavies, but it doesn't look like the created fighters are giving me much of anything for future stars. Was debating between another SHW season and a Bantamweight season to kick off that division. But I'll wait until later.

FW division is going well - Ho beat Gaffigan for the title after the season of COTT. Ziskie is fighting Basett to determine #1 Contender. Banner, Claremont, and Pander all moving toward National popularity.

My last PPV was headlined by Dean against Sugar (I think). I didn't think it was a particularly stacked card, since I run so many events. But I had a commercial rating of like 97% and brought in almost $5m in total.

Debating giving a LHW title shot to Hughes.... I imagine he would win it and retire, so rather avoid that.

Starting in 2003, going to run a 2nd PPV every 2nd month. And pretty regular TV events, using those throwaway one to broadcast a lot of fights that would other be on the prelims.

About 13 months (March 2003) into my first WMMA save ever and I'm having a blast. First thing I done was get rid of the Super heavyweight division, with anybody that could moving down to HW, and the rest getting cut. Then we implemented a Featherweight, and Womens' Flyweight Division. Champs are looking like this:

Heavyweight: James Foster (37-4-1, 10-0 GAMMA), hasn't defended the belt, was booked too but had to pull out via injury. He's now booked to face Rav Kapur (#2) in May, after finishing Gladstone Lopes and Tim Boyer with consecutive knockouts. Elsewhere, Lars-Gunner Ekberg (#8) is looking to make a run at the belt, after finishing Tank Manu'a (#4), on short notice; Ekberg was (#18) at the time. Next up for Ekberg is a fight against the returning Jeff Charlton, in what should be a star making win for The Viking. Meanwhile, after failing to make weight at HW, the SHW champion George Picerking was KOd in just over a minute against Christopher Sharp in what can only be described as a massive shock.

Light Heavyweight: Spencer Rubenstein (19-5, 9-1 GAMMA), after defeating teammate Mike Watson in what can only be described as a war, Rubenstein has what can only be described as the biggest challenge of his life ahead of him, as he faces off against Middleweight Champion Matthew Dean in a few short months! With no real challengers left in MW, Dean will look to become the first two-division champ in GAMMA. Elsewhere in the division, it's been business as usual, Watson coming from behind to finish Taneyev in R3, Watson's next fight will be against Linfield Ballard in a fight to determine the first challenger to the winner of Dean vs. Rubenstein.

Middleweight: Matthew Dean (38-5-1, 12-1-1 GAMMA), Moura came closer to beating Dean more than anyone has in recent history, taking The Anarchist to a Unanimous Draw (47-47, 47-47, 47-47), Moura returned to winning ways finishing Garner with a brutal uppercut in Round 3 of my most recent event. The next step for Moura will be an interim title fight with Neil Napier who has defated Adam White, Ashley Ballard and most recently finishing Tora Mizwar on short notice, to fly up to #3 in the Rankings.

Welterweight: Manuel Silva (21-0, 3-0 GAMMA), funny story. I booked Silva vs. Reguerio, for the title, or so I thought. Silva walked away with a Decision victory over the champ, in non title action. The rematch was booked for six months later, with the title on the line this time, this time Silva finishing Reguerio, knocking him stiff with a Spinning Heel Kick!

Lightweight: Fiyero Lermontov (20-0, 4-0 GAMMA), after finishing Jake Keane in R2 of their title fight, the Russian sits atop the Lightweight Division, with no one looking like they can stop him. Elsewhere, Sean Morrison seems to have made a resurgence after losing 3/5, finishing Bruce Steven in R2, before taking Seth Breen to a majority decision, before then finishing the highly hyped Luis Basora with a 1st Round RNC. If Morrison can overcome Helio, he'll get his rematch vs. Lermontov.

Featherweight: Phillip Ziskie (24-2-1, 2-0 GAMMA) a division in it's infancy the FWs are looking to find their feet, but that hasn't stopped Ziskie from making an immediate impact, defeating Brandon Sugar, before steam-rolling Li-Kong Ho in a Fantastic fight to become FW Champ.

Womens' Flyweight: Kochiyo Chikamatsu (13-0, 4-0 GAMMA), the Judoka walked through all three of her opponents in a One Night Tournament to crown the Flyweight Champion, taking Sandy Oliver to a decision victory, before submitting Daljit Samir via Armbar, before shocking the world and submitting Daniela Sadorra in R1, once again via Armbar. Chikamatsu then defended her belt against Sadorra, with the same result.

So, I was playing a game just goofing around and had The Rock Carlton come out of retirement and he beat Stratos and I decided to start my game over and play alittle wiser. Sticking with the same scenario where I'd make Carlton have another run at the belt. Sadly this time around he was submitted with 10 seconds left in the fight after dominating. <img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />
