After a pyro display, TONY and THE BRAIN welcome us to the show! They specifically mention the 2 out of 3 falls match between United States Champion RIC FLAIR and STING, the 60 man World War 3 Battle Royal and the steel cage showdown between THE GIANT and HULK HOGAN! Brain excels at injecting his thoughts and jokes from the commentary table, but Tony is dreadfully corny when getting excited about the show!

Grade: B

MATCH 1: In a decent match, Diamond Dallas Page defeated Road Warrior Hawk in 8:39 by pinfall with a Diamond Cutter after Diamond Doll interfered.

DDP started this rivalry by throwing some shade at guys who he thought didn’t belong in his league, specifically catching the ire of HAWK. Hawk looked to make him pay in the early goings, charging right at DDP to begin a brawl! DDP can only hang so long before falling to the outside of the ring. Hawk didn’t let the Dallas get any chance of recovery, chasing him around the ring in order to inflict more punishment. DDP was able to slide back into the ring, and was ready to stomp out Hawk when he tried to follow. From then on, DDP worked to contain Hawk’s energy until the Road Warrior came back. The finish saw this energy nearly cause Hawk to do more damage than he wanted, however. Pleading for help, DDP begged Diamond Doll to jump on the apron to get the ref’s attention. She does (but doesn’t look pleased about it), and Hawk almost bumped into her. Hawk stopped in his tracks before disaster, but turned right around into a Diamond Cutter to get a huge win.

Grade: C+

BACKSTAGE:

MIKE TENAY is backstage outside of the groom’s locker room, hyping tonight’s wedding between SENSUOUS SHERRI, and the man he’s about to interview, COL. PARKER! Parker is dressed to the nines, welcoming in Tenay with groomsmen HARLEM HEAT and BUCK AND SLATER eyeing each other in the background. Parker says this is the happiest day of his life, and he’s twisting his words and stuttering like a little schoolboy! Parker is calmed by Tenay, who reminds Parker that all he’s gotta do is dress up, give her a ring, and say “I do”. Parker’s excitement turns to nervousness, as he realizes he doesn’t have the ring yet! Right on cue, SONNY ONOO walks in, with a beautiful ring in a box! Sonny is willing to give him the ring, as long as Parker holds up his end of the deal - as Parker hands him a contract! Onoo thanks Parker for his business, as he walks out with his new client - KURASAWA! Tenay can’t help but question if that decision was smart, but still passes it to MEAN GENE elsewhere backstage.

Grade: C

BACKSTAGE:

Elsewhere, MENE GENE is at a more traditional interview set, introducing his guest LEX LUGER! Gene asks him for some thoughts prior to tonight’s World War 3 battle royal, to which Lex cuts an effective promo about survival and outlasting 59 other men! Lex is ready to walk out tonight as a winner of the WW3 match, but wants to say that he’s got his eye on the US title match tonight. He’s proud that Sting stayed out of the Horsemen, and wants him to know that he’s hoping he wants out with the US gold tonight!

Grade: B

MATCH 2: In a bout that had decent wrestling but little heat, Rey Misterio Jr. drew with Dean Malenko in 10:08 following a double disqualification. During the match we also saw Sabu run in and attack Malenko, and also attack Misterio Jr.

Rey Mysterio, Jr. certainly made a huge impact in his debut match at Nitro, but it did come at the expense of new Horseman Dean Malenko. A Horseman just doesn’t lose to a rookie and accept it, so Dean is back in this rematch to try to prove that he’s still two steps ahead of his lesser experienced adversary. At some points, Dean proved that he was in fact smarter than his opponent, learning to roll out of a Hurricana attempt and to try to work a little quicker of a pace to keep up with the young Mysterio. But, Rey again proved that he could keep up with Dean, highlighted by his ability to roll out of and escape a few Cloverleaf attempts from Dean. Both men were running out of options, so Dean set-up Rey for a Superplex to hopefully keep him down long enough to get a Cloverleaf locked in. But, when he readied Rey to deliver the move, he found himself tripped up by SABU! Both men crash to the mat, as the referee calls it a draw!

Grade: C+

POST MATCH:

Sabu is doesn’t come unarmed, as he’s got a chair in hand as well. He nails the downed Dean and Rey with a few shots each with the chair, before heading outside to get a table prepped. Seeing this, the recovering “Iceman” hightails it - he doesn’t want to get in this mad man’s way - leaving Rey as a sitting duck. Rey is propped up, and Sabu flies from the top with a leg drop, giving us two PPVs in a row that Sabu left a man lying with broken table shards around him.

Grade: C

MATCH 3: In a bout that had decent wrestling but didn't have much heat, Johnny B. Badd defeated Disco Inferno in 10:29 by pinfall with a Shooting Star Press. Johnny B. Badd makes defence number 7 of his WCW World Television Championship title.

This match came in around in a weird way, with Disco’s love of dancing (and himself) getting the attention of the TV Champ Johnny B. Badd, and earning him a title shot at World War 3. But, despite the peculiar way that this match came about, this match is the first straight up wrestling contest of the night. Disco impresses in his time to be (relatively) serious, displaying great chemistry with Badd. However, his dancing ways get the best of him, as the closing moments saw Disco boogie in the ring, confident that he would become TV champ. Bad move, as Badd recovered to plant Disco with a right hand, before ascending for a Shooting Star Press to keep his gold around his waist.

Grade:C+

BACKSTAGE:

Mean Gene catches up with Sting, moments before his US title match. Sting recaps the Horsemen drama, calling it all just games from Ric Flair. But, tonight, he’s not getting fooled! He’s ready to fight, and it’s Showtime!

Grade: B

ON THE TURNERTRON:

After Sting slips away from that interview, we get a short recap video of this legendary feud! Is Sting a Horseman? Is he not? What role does Lex Luger play in this? Can Sting regain the gold he was cheated out of? The first two falls feature traditional wrestling, with Flair getting a roll-up pinfall to score the first fall, and Sting submitting Flair to the Deathlock for the second fall!

The most important twist came at the closing moments, as Sting stood tall in the ring, and a begging and pleading Nature Boy looked nearly finished in the corner. Unfortunately, on the far end on the ring, the referee was also out cold in the ring, as he dragged into an impact from Sting moments before. A Stinger Splash sees Sting get a symbolic three count on the US champ, but it doesn’t mean anything with no referee to count it.

“Hey Stinger” - bellows ARN ANDERSON, who’s got Dean Malenko at his side. Arn congratulates Sting for making it this far, he knew he had it in him. But, it’s time to end the speculation! Arn wants to introduce Sting the true fourth Horseman, the person who was with them all along….

<img alt="TxvlOqas.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/TxvlOqas.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

It’s WOMAN!? Elegantly dressed, Woman is certainly a welcome sight for sore eyes, but everybody is confused. Sting throws his arms up at this point, yelling for Arn to stop the games! But, before he’s able to make sense of everything….

WHACK

<img alt="YHAIBrXs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/YHAIBrXs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

BRIAN PILLMAN nails him with a chair! “The Loose Cannon” is foaming at the mat, as he nails Sting with several shots across his back. With Sting effectively knocked out, Pillman aided Flair in recovering, before placing him on top on his challenger. The referee has also recovered (right after Pillman’s attack, of course), and makes the 3 count to get the Nature Boy the win.

In an exceptional match, Ric Flair defeated Sting in a Two Out Of Three Falls match in 25:48 by two falls to one after losing the first, with the final fall happening by pinfall following interference from Brian Pillman. During the match we also had Arn Anderson distract Sting. Ric Flair makes defence number 1 of his WCW United States Championship title.

Grade: A(MOTN)

Flair comes to his senses, and smiles wide! The New Four Horsemen - Flair, Arn, Dean and Pillman (with Woman at their side), raise each other’s arms in unison over the fallen Sting! Brain thinks they look prime to take over WCW whenever they want to!

Grade: B+

BACKSTAGE:

It’s our last interview prior to the World War 3 Battle Royal, as Gene stands backstage with MACHO MAN RANDY SAVAGE! Gene asks Macho about his actions on last Monday Nitro, and Savage says from now on, he’s on his own! And that attitude started on Nitro, and continues tonight, yeah! The Macho Man will watch his own back tonight, and will outlast them all to win World War 3! Brain puts over the power of MENG as a candidate to win, REY MYSTERIO SR. follows Rey Jr. out of the curtain, legend DORY FUNK JR. is dressed to compete, Arn and Pillman walk out to a huge amount of heat, YUJI NAGATA represents New Japan Pro Wrestling, the savage KAMALA looks to get revenge on the Dungeon, and hey - is that former WCW World Heavyweight Champion RON SIMMONS?

Grade: C+

World War 3 Battle Royal

THE OPENING MOMENTS

There’s three rings of battle royal action to begin the match, with 20 men standing in each ring to start, which would be a great thing if battle royals weren’t a little boring. Plus, each ring has a commentary team, leading to a chaotic beginning (and a relatively easy payday for the lesser announcers of the night). All of these factors combine to result in a bunch of eliminations that the commentary team can’t keep up with, but there’s a few that stand out: The Mysterios teaming up to score an elimination, Booker T eliminating an opponent then busting out a spinarooni, and Meng taking out former Dungeon member Kamala before he gets revenge on the Taskmaster.

The number of competitors slim down, as every ring clear up. Ring 1 sees DDP get an impressive elimination on Johnny B. Badd, but Ron Simmons quickly clothesline DDP out of the ring after his elimination, leaving Simmons, Savage and Luger left standing out of Ring 1. Ring 2 sees the dominant trio of Flair, Pillman and Anderson benefit from the luck of the draw, as the trio survive Harlem Heat’s attack to enter into the semi-final round. Ring 3 is an interesting one, as Sting somehow withstands The Dungeon of Doom, eliminating Shark, leaving Meng, Taskmaster and Sting as the final 3.

THE FINAL NINE

Arn Anderson, Brian Pillman, Lex Luger, Meng, Randy Savage, Ric Flair, Ron Simmons, Sting, The Taskmaster

At this point, everyone merges into one ring, and the cameras can finally focus on all of the action. The two biggest heel factions in WCW - the Dungeon and the Horsemen - both walk into the semi-final stage at a huge advantage, as the Dungeon send two men and the Horsemen have three men left standing. Obviously, the Horsemen still want to get a recovering Sting out of there, but Lex stands in front of his friend, defending him against the 3 on 1 disadvantage. That leaves the Dungeon to target Macho Man and the returning Ron Simmons. This even 2 on 2 match produces mixed results for the Dungeon, as while Ron just couldn’t overpower Meng, Savage got rid of the dastardly Taskmaster.

Meanwhile, Lex Luger stalled enough for Sting to save him from elimination, as the two waged war with the Horsemen. Sting clobbered Pillman in the corner, as Savage and Lex began to work over Flair and Arn. Sting uses his power to clothesline Pillman over the top (only making him land on the apron), and looks to finish the job by running off the ropes to gain momentum and finish the job. But, when Pillman sees it coming, he simply jumps of the apron, eliminating himself from the match.

Sting is seething, standing right near the rings, watching Pillman walk off, sticking up the four horsemen sign and sticking his tongue out at the Stinger. This all would make him prone to an elimination, but by some sixth sense, he reverses the attempt to eliminate him, and Arn Anderson is gone!

Outnumbered now, and fatigued from his 2 out of 3 falls match earlier tonight, Flair stands little chance, getting bounced around like a pinball before Lex finishes the job with a clothesline.

THE FINAL FOUR

<img alt="ISYUVxBs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/ISYUVxBs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="iccMDkvs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/iccMDkvs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="UnMqv6ds.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/UnMqv6ds.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="iccMDkvs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/iccMDkvs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="k0SJ3YUs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/k0SJ3YUs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="iccMDkvs.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/iccMDkvs.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="Yqx1fIds.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Yqx1fIds.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

A powerful final four of Luger, Savage, Sting, and Meng are the four final men. Luger and Sting identify Meng as the most dangerous man left in the match, as they both charge at the monster. But, Meng is able to survive their strikes, and locks both men in the Death Grip! Luger is holding on, but Sting barely has enough energy to stand, fully feeling the attacks on the gruesome hold. Out of nowhere, Savage flies from the top rope with a two handed strike, loosing the grip on two of the biggest babyfaces in WCW. Sting crumbles to the mat, but Luger takes advantage of the stunned Meng to toss the man out of the ring!

Savage and Luger square off next, with Savage quickly trying to eliminate Luger after he’s able to get Meng out. Lex hangs on, and the two trade elimination attempts as Sting recovers in a nearby corner. Lex finally pulls out the Torture Rack, hoping to elevate Savage enough to place him over the top rope, and provide a heavy amount of damage to the Macho Man. Savage somehow survives, hanging on the top rope. Using Lex’s weight against him, Savage propels Lex over the top rope!

Savage turns around to access the damage, but by the time he attempts to head into the ring, Sting propels himself forward… and knocks Savage out of the ring.
So there's World War 3! A tad slower than I expected, but it is the holiday season after all. Hope y'all don't mind Hogan/Giant not getting a full breakdown either, but, after it got most of the attention on the last two PPVs, I'd figure I'd let some other folks get some time to shine.
Johnny B. Badd© vs. Diamond Dallas Page

Comments: I think Hawk gets a measure of revenge by costing DDP in this match.

The Armstrongs vs. The Blue Bloods

Comments: If Regal doesn't beat Hogan for the title at Starrcade '95 then I will be very upset. Okay, maybe not Starrcade '95, but it's a real shame that he never got to hold a world title in real life. Hopefully something you'll be able to rectify in this dairy at some point down the line!

For the WCW World Heavyweight Championship:

Hulk Hogan© vs. Meng

Comments: Seeing Meng make it in the final four in WW3 was a nice surprise but I don't think it'll result in him beating Hogan for the title on a random Nitro weeks before Starrcade lol. But if it was Russo with the book....

The Undertaker vs. Wolfie D

Comments: Taker's first appearance since the Survivor Series main event. Should be an easy win to help establish his momentum.

Duke Droese, Marty Jannety, and Savio Vega vs. Bully DeMott, Dean Douglas and Skip

Comments:

Bret Hart vs. The British Bulldog

Comments: Razor and Bret should tear the house down at In Your House.

Bonus Question:

Which company are you enjoying more, WCW or WWF?: Recency bias after WW3 but I'm looking forward to the Savage vs. Hogan build for Starrcade and seeing how Sting's future title shot plays into everything.

I prefer WWF only because Hogan's nonsensical booking of going over all the big men and the gmfact that I hate him as a human being and the upcoming HBK/Bret fued that has to happen or I'll be taking my business to ECW thank you very much

Great WW3....I wouldn't even know where to begin in writing up that 60 man cluster (and I haven't seen to many on here try either) so kudos for that as well...glad to see Pillman finally get his Horsemen Shirt, although I was getting worried that for as much as Luger was protesting it was going to turn out to be him joining up with Flair, Arn and Malenko.....thankfully not, as Pillman is a far better choice.

WCW Nitro:

Johnny B. Badd© vs. Diamond Dallas Page

Comments: After picking up a HUGE win (that I did not see coming at all) last night, Page should be winning here....will he win the title? That remains to be seen, but he will win the match

The Armstrongs vs. The Blue Bloods

Comments:I really enjoyed the Blue Bloods, interested to see where things go with Harlem Heat now too

For the WCW World Heavyweight Championship:

Hulk Hogan© vs. Meng

Comments:Brother, Jack, Dude.....Big Boot....Leg Drop....Hogan wins LOL....the original John Cena continues to squash the roster.....although goddamn, if Meng just wanted to take the title, could anyone stop him?

WWF Monday Night Raw:

The Undertaker vs. Wolfie D

Comments:I don't think any explanation is needed here

Duke Droese, Marty Jannety, and Savio Vega vs. Bully DeMott, Dean Douglas and Skip

Comments:My god, what a barnburner this one should be :p

Bret Hart vs. The British Bulldog

Comments:This one on the other hand should be great

Bonus Question:

Which company are you enjoying more, WCW or WWF?: I've always been more of a WCW guy, but I gotta be honest the WWF is taking it for me at the minute.....there are some great potential feuds in the waiting and we still have the whodunnit with Diesel.....go team WWF

I really liked WW3, while I didn't choose him for the win I am never opposed to Sting picking up a huge victory. Also very glad to see Pillman revealed as the final Horseman. I really think that Flair, Arn, Pillman, and Benoit would have been an incredible Horseman team for the late 90s had things gone differently, but real life gave us other things when Brian left and we got Mongo (and also the nWo overshadowing everything WCW had been doing). I look forward to seeing what you do with "The Loose Cannon" now that he's a full fledged Horseman.

DDP

Blue Bloods

Hulk Hogan - Meng looked good at WW3, so now Hogan's gotta stop that momentum quickly.

Undertaker

Bully, Dean, and Skip

Bret Hart
