Diary Preview And Questions Thread

Recommended Posts

I have several projects I wanted to try, after my first foray into diary writing with"Hillbilly Riches" I unfortunately dropped that diary due to coinciding too closely to 2016 and I did not want to start it without a proper conclusion as I drop 2016 for the new game.

1: Hillibilly Riches Reboot

2: Organic 1980 save as either TPW or a random company, rebuilding wrestling from scratch.

3: Unemployed start which was mentioned in the diary notes to work better in this game. Starting as a completely random company definitely is something I'm interested in.

I won't be getting TEW 2020 straight away, but when I do get it, I'm going to try to focus more on the diary side of things, and hopefully I can maintain two diaries: one serious one using BigPapa's soon to release May 2013 mod, and a not so serious one using the C-Verse. A description of the not so serious one below:

A disturbed ma... erm... I mean a distinguished man of true leadership skills, so much so that people have referred to him as the Dear Leader, Jim Pickens, decides to start his own wrestling promotion after he takes... erm, I mean, is given money by some generous donors. How he will do running a wrestling promotion is anyone's guess. I like to call it:

"Booking TEW: But I Ruin the C-Verse!"

PS: Yes, the name is derived from videos posted by Youtuber CallMeKevin. :D

** The shoot date right now is 12th of April, 2020 **

As I sit here, typing up my thoughts, I'm reminded of some of my older diaries... I've written WWE Diaries (to varying degrees of success) FOUR times... I've dabbled in the C-Verse with NOTBPW vs CGC... 21CW... and NOTBPW again... But really and truly, all of these diaries have been in my 'comfort zone'... Sports Entertainment, the WWE style of in-ring action and non-wrestling segments... I changed NOTBPW's product to suit my writing/booking style, because I had stories to tell with the families within the two big Canadian Companies, and all the cool characters within.

So when TEW 2020 was just a few weeks away, I never thought THIS company would be the first one I'd want to check in on!!

I thought when the new game was released, my first port of call would be to check 21CW, and favourites of mine like Buff Martinez, Jay B, Jonathan Faust... Even pop over to Europe and see how Joey Beauchamp, Jase Cole and Christopher Lister are doing... Or what about Tommy Cornell... Edward Cornell... Leigh Burton... Wade Orson... Ricky Storm and Sifu?! There's so many in that part of the world that I have a fondness for.

Maybe I'd pop to Canada first... The DeColts and Stones are all but gone now, surely. Just Ricky and Edd holding the fort, and maybe Jack, Steve and Duane holding on to the last remnants of their careers. Where is Edd? Is he in Canada again?! Still with TCW?! But what about the other guys I loved to write for up there?! Dan DaLay, Johnny Bloodstone, John Maverick, Jacob Jett, Thrill Seeker, Joey Poison, the list is endless. Don't forget David Stone!! He'd have debuted by now. Are there any other DeColts or Stones in the database?! Debuted already? Set to debut?

Lucy Stone-McFly I was never too worried about, not being a fan of having a 'women's division' when I book. I feel like it's a special attraction within a company that is separate from the rest of the show. Almost like a chance to switch off our attention because it has nothing to do with the main stories. In WWE, I love the women's division, but writing it is different. You have to dedicate at least one match (out of say, 5, 6 or 7) per show, and at least one segment, to the division, and that doesn't feel like it's enough.

I'm digressing. I do that.

So THIS company, is the first one I'm going to check on...?! Really...?!

(Already posted this in the previous thread, but screw it. I'm bored!)

So THIS company, is the first one I'm going to check on...?! Really...?!

A new TEW... TEW 2020... and THIS company is the first one I'm going to open up when I start my first save... I'll check to see who's still good... and who isn't... I'll see if any other companies from around the world have swooped in and chosen to steal any of my favourites away... Maybe the larger companies with more money than sense... Robbing swines... Maybe there's been some new signings! Some guys from other companies, coming in to grace us with their presence right before I take over!

It's no surprise I'm a DeColt or Stone fan. I love the family element of wrestling... I think brothers, sisters, relationships, parents and children, it makes people care more! Classic example: The Triple Threat TLC Matches between The Hardyz (real brothers), The Dudleyz (on screen brothers), and Edge and Christian (on screen brothers). If Bubba and D-Von slammed Matt Hardy through a table, and he was damn near broken in half, Jeff is going to be pretty upset by this. It means more if they're family I think.

I'm digressing again.

So I think family is important. Will THIS company have any new relationships spring up? Will the relationships from TEW 2016 still be in place? There's no way to tell until the game comes out. Same as there's no way to tell who's been pushed. Will some of my favourites still be near the top of the card? Will they be figureheads? Or Locker Room Leaders? Captains of the roster? Or will they have turned to drugs or booze, or other bad habits? If they have, they can expect a lump of coal in their stockings from Santa!

I'm digressing again.

I guess I'll find all of that out Next Thursday... 23rd of April... 2020.

** I won't blame you for not picking up on any of these... But I'll explain them all now... **

Good refers to Rahmel Goode

Swooped – Swoop McCarthy

Steal – Luke Steele

More Money than sense – Montgomery Croft (considered an 'intentional typo' and putting 'More Monty than sense', but you're all too smart for that... Right?)

Robbing – Loxley Robbins

Grace – Gregory Grace

Element – Frogue Element

Way – This was meant to be 'Wayne', but I thought it would be noticed if I did a 'typo' here too...

Captains – Captain Wrestling II

Coal – Cole Taylor... Okay, that was a stretch

I'm digressing again – That was supposed to be an Echo... I was really struggling to get these last few in!! Should have stopped at Element...

Next Thursday... As in, Monday Next... One of the stupidest names in wrestling... Again, a stretch...

** All of that is to say:

My next diary, by popular demand, will be as the writer and booker of RAW in Australia...!! **

So, RAW it is then... Thought I'd just go over some of my reasoning for things, and answer some questions that may come up:

1).
What will happen to WWE Three Brands Part II?
- Sadly, this diary is finished. I've posted the ten final shows I had stored up, and a 'Road To WrestleMania' summary if anyone's interested. It's probably my worst, and most difficult WWE Diary, based on it's longevity. With all those shows every week, I only managed around four months game time. I found the roster way too big, and impossible to manage, despite not signing anyone, all I did was bring people in who were under contract. Well, except one controversial name I suppose. Mr. Punk.

2).
Why RAW?
- Countless people (I think it's two) have said in the past that RAW would be a good fit for me, and so I checked them out in the first three weeks of me being in lockdown. Off work. Nothing to do all day except decorating etc. and I have to say, I am intrigued. Swoop McCarthy seems like one of the most charismatic characters in the entire C-Verse. They have three BIG babyfaces alongside him, so one of those four is just begging to be turned heel. Then there's the TV Only thing. In TEW 2016, their monthly PPV was 'dormant'. So they only put on TV shows... I have lots of ideas for this, and I'll explain more another time. The other reason, is the bliss of having one show per week (instead of three or more), meaning I can move things along quicker. It's a smallish roster too which will be nice. To give you some perspective, it'll be less than 40 men, with no women's division. In WWE Three Brands Part II, RAW, NXT and Smackdown had over 40 men on each roster, AND women's divisions on top. Too many characters to keep coming up with ideas for.

3).
Shouldn't you wait until TEW 2020 is released before making these kinds of plans? What if Swoop McCarthy has left RAW? Or something like that?
– Yep. Probably.

4).
Isn't all this a bit pretentious? I mean, nobody actually cares, bro!
– Ahh man. That's a bit unkind. But I get it. Listen, I'm bored okay. So just... Can you just...? Okay...?

Great thread!

I'm the... author? Conceiver? of the 'Hollywait' diary. It creates a major divergence in CornellVerse lore simply by delaying JK Stallings Jr.'s opening of HGC until he turns 18; right off the bat, this brings a very different January of 1997 to the universe, one with all eyes on the East Coast Wars for a challenger to rise against the SWF's dominance. I also fully intend to bookend the diary by releasing the database at periodic/pivotal moments.

As long as i wait for Thunder Verse, i might start with a CV dynasty and i would try to stick to it. <img alt=":o" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/redface.png.900245280682ef18c5d82399a93c5827.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Is it silly that I feel so much pride when I see you using those boxes?

I want to start a dynasty so badly, but also know that I'm going back to work in a month so if I'm going to do it I'd better prewrite so much content! And knowing me, of course, my first chunk of game time will be R2G...and due to my love of Puro, and my love of the DeColt family, and my sadness over the fact that we have zero third generation DeColts, I'll be doing the Calvin DeColt saga...but that's not all! Bringing a golden boy like that to Japan there's only logically one company he can join...and that, of course, is the now defunct Golden Canvas Grappling...but what if they were reopened?

So you see my dilemma, I am the worst for getting busy, and my work is very demanding of my time...but maybe we'll try it just one more time. (I'm not already writing for this or anything >.>)

So i've been thinking of busting out a diary. First in many MANY years

New York City Wrestling - A TEW2020 Diary (Maybe!?)

New York (shortened to NY), often called New York City (shortened to NYC), is the largest city in the United States, located in the state of New York. New York’s population is similar to London in the United Kingdom with over 8 million people currently living in it, and over 22 million people live in the bigger New York metropolitan area. It is in the south end of the state of New York, which is in the northeastern United States. It is the financial capital of the US since it is home to the nation's stock market, Wall Street, and the One World Trade Center. A leading global city; New York exerts culture, media and capital internationally, as well as attracting great numbers of international travelers. It is also the home of the United Nations Headquarters.

------------

<p>It was snowing again. Of course it was, it always snowed in January. He hated the snow and it made his joints hurt. Years of taking bumps in the middle of a ring will do that to you and the long walk here hadn't helped. He would have got a taxi, but he didn't want to be recognised coming here. He yearned to be inside with the radiators on and a bourbon in his hand, but there would be time for that later. He had a meeting to attend.

He took a deep drag of his cigarette and stood outside the entrance for a while lost in his thoughts of years past, of friendships made and friends lost, of titles won and last days. They were some of his best and worst memories. He flicked the cigarette to the curb, composed himself and pushed open the door.

The stairs to the office was covered in old photographs. As he climbed they transitioned through the 80's, the 90s and he eventually stopped at the one of The Stomper winning the Empire championship in 2001. He wondered how Derek was spending his retirement. 'Better than me I bet' he thought to himself. Last he'd heard was that he'd taken up golfing and he couldn't think of anything worse. Continuing up, he glanced at some of the newer pictures but recognised fewer people as got to the top.

He pushed open the door and noticed that little had changed. The place still stunk of sweat and cigarettes even though nobody had been allowed to light up in here in almost 20 years. It had soaked in to the pores of the building and was never coming out. In the corner of the room sat the same old worn out sofa with hole in the arms and springs that will catch you if you are unaware. He could remember spending many a night passed out on that sofa and next to it covered in dust was the TV with a built in VCR where they'd watch back shows and heckle each other. It was memories like that, that made him feel like a dinosaur.

'Do you need something' came a nasally voice from the side of him. The receptionist, he guessed must have been an staff members daughter, as she looked barely out of school. He could barely see her over the old CRT monitor on the desk, and upon moving closer saw she sat there barely looking at him frantically tapping away at her mobile phone, and he reckoned there would be a few choice words aimed at the work phone if it even considered ringing and making her actually do her job.

'Yeah, tell Larry i'm back'

<p>RIPW: Tomorrow's Stars... Tonight!</p><p> </p><p>

</p><div style="text-align:center;"><img alt="wrddGOP.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/wrddGOP.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="DyCQ9x9.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/DyCQ9x9.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /><img alt="PG2sl1n.jpg" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/PG2sl1n.jpg" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></div><p></p><p></p><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

As part of the continued rebuilding of the Supreme Wrestling Federation, the company has earmarked the start of the new decade as the ideal time to put increased focus on their development promotion, Rhode Island Pro Wrestling. Jerry and Eric Eisen reportedly spoke with Mean Jean Cattley recently, informing him of their desire to see RIPW produce a weekly show, giving talent much more in-ring and on-camera experience, as they look to continue to build the next generation of home grown “Supreme Stars”. Cattley was all too happy with the increased funding to promote these shows, and RIPW’s “Tomorrow’s Stars… Tonight!” is scheduled to begin from this week.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

While the shows will not be televised, they will be recorded in the “SWF Style”, with increased production values and an emphasis on working to the camera, and not necessarily to the crowd. Mean Jean is not alone in the task of improving the efficiency of RIPW’s conveyor belt of “TV Ready Stars”, as he and booker Wilson Carlisle will be joined by SWF legend and highly respected road agent Barry “Runaway Train” Bowen, who will report to Rhode Island from the beginning of 2020. Despite his experience and reverence, Bowen was very much seen to be in the Richard Eisen mould of producing matches, having learned under the disgrace former SWF owner, and had seen his influence diminish in recent years. Regularly overlooked for agenting some of the biggest matches of the post Richard Eisen-era, both sides amicably agreed a change of scenery would suit Bowen.</span></p><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;"> </span></p><p><span style="font-family:Tahoma;">

Talk that Barry Bowen would leave the SWF all together surfaced towards the end of 2019, but sources have claimed this was never on the table and he is very much looking forward to working with Mean Jean Cattley. Jean was the person who Bowen spoke to when looking to get his daughter a break in the business over a decade ago, and coupled with her positive experience of working with the former MAW head booker, Runaway Train is said to hold a great respect for the man in charge of RIPW. They will now look to put their 55+ years of experience in the business together, and serve as the launchpad to the careers of the next generation of Supreme Wrestling Federation talent.</span></p>

Spent the day working on converting the 2016 mod over to 2020 and freshening it up. Debating throughly of if I'll be continuing the current diary (from December 2017-Present) or move to another story. Other than the original, I have three ideas. Would certainly be curious if any particularly pique anyones interest.

0) Ring of Honor: Where Superstars are Born (nearly 50,000 views over 2+ years which, while not on the level of the masters, has been a fun achievement). To some extent I feel like the stories I wanted to tell have been told. Jay Briscoe reigns supreme (and is virtual untouchable in popularity). In the midst of a long-ish story arc that could be continued though and with some of the new features I think I could successfully pivot a bit. If I choose to close up shop on this one I will absolutely be writing a wrap-up for the couple main stories I want to tell.

----------------------------------------------------

Three new-ish ideas.

1) Ring of Honor: The Villain Era (Starting January 2020, with Marty Scurll taking over the book, as happened in real life, sticking with ROH but starting with the actual Jan 2020 roster and having things booked through March). Wrestling driven, all trying to recover from the long-term mistakes of the Delirious era of booking. I love the focus on wrestling, and they have a challenge ahead of them. The new mechanics in the 2020 game make this a good challenge.

2) Impact 2020: The Climb Back Through Obscurity (Impact has long been one of my favorite promotions. It has certainly had its ups and downs, but currently I think the product is very strong and they've made some fun decisions that play well into the hands of the 2020 mechanics. Bulk tv tapings (which fits my writing style, check out my ROH diary on 2016 board if you want an example) are now a feature, so that's ideal. Plus they have a national TV deal with AXS TV and Impact Plus is a great home for the fun one off events with smaller promotions. All wrapped together into some great story-telling and storylines. Plus... they have some absurd characters that would be fun to book.

3) The Untitled Pandemic Project (This one is the big wild card. I don't tend to sit and watch shows in reality, I like characters, stories and entrances. I tend to jump through the match itself. With the current stay-at-home situation and the WWE's mass firings, I started thinking about a couple options, one is those names starting their own promotion, but more than likely I'd actually lean towards it being more of an Indy Wrestling showcase diary. I tend to run more than one promotion at a time so I can tell a story I want to tell and keep things playing out the way I want them to. So this diary would take frequent looks at a couple promotions and in particular workers as they climb their way up the ladder (PWG, EVOLVE, DEFY, BLP, GCW, etc). This would be a challenge, and frankly might be confusing, but it would be an interesting challenge and experience as a whole. I'd envision this being like, pick a star or a couple and follow him for 3-6 months. This would be more "indy-rific" and incorporate more story-telling through things like fake twitter posts, etc.

All would be fun!
