TEW2020 CornellVerse Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

With the loss of AAA, I feel like the time is right for the newly retired Damian "The Natural" Carvill to open up a small, extremely quirky wrestling company in his backyard of the Northwest USA.

Portlandia Integrity Grappling.

Naturally, Damian will be the Mayor of PIG and he'll have to mediate between my two major factions: The Fair Trade Brigade and Seattle Sucks.

...I've been binging Portlandia.

This is something I can put a bird on.

I know, I just needed to vent after my disappointment with trying the quick fill feature for women wrestlers last night.

One thing you can try if you're not getting as many as you want is to run the quick fill again. Even if it says it can't make as many workers as you want, if you run it again, you will usually get more.

I suspect this is because it generates workers first according to some basic demographics and then looks for pictures for them and throws out any workers it can't find a picture for. Since there are fairly few Hispanic, black, and masked women in the free pictures, if you're generating workers anywhere where these are likely to come up, you will probably get fewer than you want (because as soon as it generates a third woman in a mask, it has run out of pictures).

This might not help you that much in Mexico (where I suspect it would be drawing heavily on the very limited pools of Hispanic and masked women), but in areas where it is likely to draw on the larger picture pools of white and Asian women, running the quick fill several times should get you a decent number of workers.

(It would be nice if there were more pictures, or if the quick fill would look for a picture and then create a suitable worker to match, though).

Thinking about it more, while I'm okay with the current state of women's wrestling in North America (aside from my aforementioned not being crazy about no one special really set to debut), I will say I think women's wrestling in Mexico has stagnated. Certainly, the women's division in OLLIE and CILL have gotten bigger, but the actual women available to wrestle in Mexico is pretty much the same as it was in 2016. No new workers, no one on excursion...

Also, Canada's largest company has a women's division, the United States' largest company has a women's division, and Mexico's largest company... does not. That doesn't feel right, somehow.

Women have really never been more than a novelty in Mexico, so it's totally fine. In the C-Verse Mexico doesn't lean on novelty acts, there have historically been one or two... ah, vertically challenged people and Adam doesn't seem to have any interest in adding more. So they'd be heavily traditional, which means no grils. And Japan, while being a place that historically has treated woman folk fantastically well at the box office, sees no reason to integrate. Although that could change if Stardom gets over and they start pumping out workers on the level of Jaguar, and The Jumping Bomb Angels again. But that's years down the line, if ever.

It would be nice if there were more pictures

There were free Cverse style pics in a few 2016 mods. Unfortunately I don't remember which mods they came from and the process to get them might be more cumbersome than just doing it yourself (download 2016 mod, copy & paste pics into pictures folder, convert database to 2020, import free pics into database. Then repeat for the other two databases).

They had the prefixes CVMJFP, EVFP (maybe the Effverse) and Free_. It added a bunch to mine for 2016. Some of those may now be renders for newly created workers or new CVFPs that come with the default data. I know some people would worry about doubles.

The names are fun. I do sorta miss the Masked Avatar being this respected selfless veteran type like he was in the old days. There aren't really others like that, since I wouldn't exactly put Sheik Ali-Avatar in that same context. :p

The younger avatars are probably better for staying active and skilled throughout long-form games but I've always been really into developing younger workers and to just be the kind of guy I'd want to book inexperienced workers against to make sure they look good was pretty nice.

Of course I can always just pick an actual veteran wrestler to do that with instead and in fact already have, just started playing as Robbie Retro in RIPW to get the next generation of SWF folk ready for prime time. But yannow.

Yeah but what about the future? With all of the new features we have that help workers develop outside of established companies, what happens when the free agent pool dries up. There are already a lot of workers at or over retirement age (for women, that's typically 30). Also, keep in mind that most women have an "injury" that can happen seemingly at any time and put a worker out of action for a full year (pregnancy). But, I'm almost positive we're not working with the 'final' database and there will be more new workers added for full release. This is one of those pieces of content that can wait until the last minute because with a two month limit, you're not going to see any of those future workers anyway.

I'm working on something in this area. I noticed a lot of people who have left the business have done so for 'raising a family' purposes. Heck, Tracy Brendon's bio just about handed me all the info I'd need to create her daughter. I've also had some ideas that are holdovers from previous years. For example, it wouldn't be uncommon for an unmarried Japanese woman to hide a pregnancy so who's to say Kanako (Sakakibara) Hyobanshi doesn't exist?

When you get this data to a good point with the additions your thinking of, I would love a copy!

Parvin Kishan may look somewhat underwhelming at first glance, but he's already almost a perfect figurehead at only 21, and both Sensational Sarja and Prince Rupy have excellent potential as top heels in the future.</p>

I'm only in the brainstorming phase at this point. I have a few ideas and stuff is popping from that (like Gizmo after a bath). I like the idea of low to mid tier workers producing top tier talented offspring (like Doug Anderson did with Melissa). Or low tier workers producing offspring perfect for a particular product (like Paul Van Dale did with Carmella).

Personally, I'm not too stressed about the lack of women that are yet to debut in the database. There's not a ton of men, either, which means that you can expect a lot of random workers to start filling the void for you. Two of the games I've gotten to march already have two new women each, which is a higher rate than 2016 already.

I understand that not everyone likes the randomness of it, though. Personally I'm into it because it makes every game feel totally unique.

The thing about that, as I noted somewhere else, depending on the area, there aren't going to be enough pictures.

I'm looking forward to release so I can find out if PCs are a panacea. Randomness is fine (except with regard to loot) but I've spent over a decade watching 5 decent to great random gen male workers and (for example) one female worker......with 28 Basics and 17 star quality. Seriously? Who's going to sign this person? The RNG in TEW has never been a friend of mine.

Been toying with the idea of a CV version of a NWA domination type mod for a while. I think the new promotion relationships might make this very possible down the line.

I'd love that. Idom was an amazing mod, can't believe it didn't even make it to 2016.

Been playing with the Beta and thought I’d share my setup since I was looking more to tweak with the game before launch. Only experienced one glitch so far, game randomly shut down while messing with the database, but other than that and the eye sore font layout I’ve been digging most of the new additions so far. I know things will be tweaked before launch and after reading Adam’s most recent update log I’m still interested in purchasing the game, once I can get some new skins.

Anyway, I’ve played the C-Verse once before on TEW16, but I normally use it to really understand the game mechanics and build a company from the ground up. I took Joanne Rodriguez and Karen Killer as my 2 avatars, Karen became the head booker of QAW so I can take a look at the more traditional style of gameplay under an owner. Meanwhile J-Ro’s Athena Pro or ATHENA, based out of Chicago in the Great Lakes, is there to be my fantasy booking promotion. I almost immediately made them sister promotions, although they can only share talent through trades or loans. J-Ro taking a real effort in changing the wrestling landscape, and improving the profile of women’s wrestling in North America in general means she’d want to work with the other gal down the street. I bring in 5SSW and form the World Wide Women’s Wrestling Association, or the 4WA, a women’s only alliance that shares their profits and are link through prestige and momentum. Think of the relationship between ATHENA and QAW as something similar to Shimmer and Shine in the real world, but with a much larger budget since Rodriguez has managed to bring in big sponsors and Karen Killer has brought in a large investment into her company as well.

After 1 month of gameplay I gave both companies a million dollars, creating small internet free to air stations so I can at least put out more content in a short time. ATHENA and QAW grew in popularity in that time, but I may have hit a wall as I’ve gotten my top stars “aren’t over enough’ warnings since I’ve grown to Small. In fact popularity seems to be one of my small nit picks so far, as capping midcarders at 15 minutes tops on big shows before they’re overused may be a bit much, although that could be a result of my product maybe. I changed QAW from Classic LL to Episodic LL since I gave them a TV show, and ATHENA is Respectful Wrestling, basically a Joshi wrestling company in the US. I can give a breakdown of the roster, but this is getting long enough. Just wanted to share my gameplay idea.

I feel like the game world needs a promotion in Scandinavia (or conceivably Southern Mediterranean) where all the wrestlers take mantles of gods and other mythological figures. it will be mostly Norse at first, but we can have Greek and Egyptian things work their way in over time.

So I'm going to make one, but I didn't see any characters that I liked for it so I'm creating one, which I'm finding time consuming, mostly due to my indecisiveness about stats.
