Terrible Workers That You Keep Hiring Anyway

Recommended Posts

So, some wrestlers just aren't very good. Maybe they're awful in the ring, maybe they're just a charisma vacuum, whatever.

But sometimes, you hire them anyway. Maybe they're rays of sunshine that improve the backstage atmosphere significantly. Maybe you just need a warm body to eat pins.

So, who are your "They stink up the ring, but..." picks?

For me, it's Tsuki Kawamata. I usually play women's companies in the C-Verse. Now, Tsuki's skills aren't generally suited for either QAW or 5 Star, and in 2020, she's unlikely to get any better.. And her entertainment skills are a bit lacking. But, she's cheap, and she's bilingual. So, if you're a Joshi company that wants to bring in some gaijin, or an American company looking to bring in some Japanese workers, she's an economical choice for smooth transitions. In fact, I'm preparing to start up a developmental company, and she's on my short list of potential owners/ bookers (can't remember offhand which one she can do).

<p>In my games, that's pretty much everybody. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

I like taking the guys who just barely got out of training school and giving them work so they can be presentable. Making career jobbers my world champions. Sticking an aging valet on commentary to try and extend her career. Let other people be USPW or the SWF or some other big time promoter like that. I want the reclamation projects. The palookas. The scrubs transitioning into a new role. A C- grade might as well be an A* in my companies.</p><p> </p><p>

Anyway, I'd say three names stand out for me. Bob Casey, Ben Williams and Chikafusa Tadeshi. Casey's had some real wars for me over the years. Most notably with Ted Brady. Solid locker room guy. Sort of shar pei ugly-cute in his profile pic. Maybe a little conservative at times and unwilling to do crazy stuff but a consummate pro.</p><p> </p><p>

Williams is my jack of all trades guy. Doesn't matter where he ends up on the card or whether he's going to singles or tag gold, the dude is incredibly versatile. Had one game where I was running a gay club in the Northwest. So I made him what should have been the most preposterous character in wrestling history. The gay face. And he absolutely nailed it. Guy is so much more than a bump machine. He can be and do anything a micro indy could ever hope for.</p><p> </p><p>

And any time I'm doing a melting pot fed bringing scrubs from the various wrestling markets together in one place, Tadeshi absolutely has to represent Japan. If anybody is truly terrible from a skills perspective, it's Chikafusa Tadeshi. But he's another dream locker room guy and with that spiky mohawk of his, he's easy to program. Just give him a punk gimmick and let him go. I know the guy's never going to be a world beater but he's a joy to work with and easy to promote so there's always gonna be room for him in my games. Just love that dude.</p>

Add Boo Smithson and Frey Valiente Jr to the list and I, too, tend to hire these guys - let it be indies or National Juggernauts. Regular Joe was another one in this list, but now he is with USPW.

There is something in hiring these dudes. It's great when they actually get over and become someone you can truly get behind. In one of my older LU in CV save, Frey Valiente Jr tagged with J-RO and Alicia Strong and became something in his own right, and it was very satisfying.

I don’t think he is “terrible” but I don’t think there has been a game where I haven’t had Ace Youngblood on my roster doing something (unless I’m playing as an all woman’s company). I love Ace. He’s a solid all around wrestler. He can be tag or singles without ever needing to really get a sustained push — though he has received many pushes from me over the years.

I think it would be interesting to start a game where everyone is on the lowest or second lowest scouting level and extreme variance. Maybe that worker you like with bad stats becomes a diamond in the rough. You won't know until you try it.

The answer to the original question is Mick Muscles.

In the c-verse I made a bunch of mistakes basing a wrestler off of a cool render. Hammer Hadley is one that keeps falling short. Looks like a nasty Joe Doering type and never captures the crowd and always jobs out. Only once (out of 5 saves I've tried him in) I was able to get him over as a nasty gaijin, but only for a brief moment as he got an injury that broke his neck.

In my WWWF save I always make the mistake of picking up guys I like over guys that fit the product. Lonnie Mayne was one. Pushed him every possible way I could and he just tanked. I send him away, let him gain pop elsewhere, bring him back, and he's tanks some more. Just bad luck. I released him back to the North West territory where he rips it up day in and day out for PNW. I'll just have to wait until his pop is max'ed and hopefully in the late 1970s I can pair him with Randy Colley.

From what I read, some people just like to see the world burn. I can understand a man's desire for giant wood, but to sign Giant Redwood is just... well... I don't get it. :p

With NOTB, I tend to keep Ron Greenhorn around, though I never actively hired him. He's signed already and I never fire him, just keep him active.

Original Sinner is another guy I’ve used in couple different saves that got a good push. He is perfect lackey/muscle. I have him managing Aldous Blackfriar right now(he’s my top heel). Kinda using in supplementary role. I can have Nelson Callum whose feuding with Aldous fight Original Sinner.
