MACW Spring Stampede Dean Smith Center. Chapel Hill, North Carolina Friday Week 4 April 1983 Attendance: 14,250 Overall Rating: A Buyrate: 17,814 A Flair Arrival To start out Spring Stampede, the cameras are outside the Dean Smith Center where a long limousine arrives. Out walks the Nature Boy Ric Flair and James J. Dillon. Flair is dressed in his usual robe with the World Heavyweight Title belt around his waist. He whispers a few words to Dillon and then releases a 'Whooo' to the camera as he walks into the building. =A+ Intro Video Road Warriors/Blade Runners Next showed a video featuring the entrance of the Road Warriors and a little background history between the two teams as they prepared for the match tonight at Spring Stampede =D
The Road Warriors vs. The Blade Runners Paul Ellering led his Road Warriors down to the ring and they slid inside, waiting in the corner to boos from the crowd. The crowd has definitely not seen anything like the Road Warriors here in Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling. The fans cheered fan favorites the Blade Runners when they came to the ring and it was an all-out brawl to start things. Sting made a pretty good showing of himself in there against Hawk but when the tag was made things went downhill for the Blade Runners. The Ultimate Warrior was no match for Hawk or Animal. Animal military press slammed the Ultimate Warrior to the mat and then called for what is to be known as the Doomsday Device, tagging out to Hawk and then lifting the Ultimate Warrior on his shoulders. Hawk went to the top turnbuckle and leapt off, clotheslining the Ultimate Warrior and flipping him 360 degrees! Hawk made the cover and got the three count. The Road Warriors b. The Blade Runners =C
After the match, Animal pushed Sting off the apron and against the steel guardrail while Hawk pounded on the Ultimate Warrior on the mat. Hawk rolled Warrior to the outside and moved to the ringside table, setting Warrior up and actually piledrove him through the table! Bob Caudle and Bobby Heenan could NOT believe what they had just witnessed! The Ultimate Warrior just MIGHT have a broken neck! =D Match Intro For Nikita Koloff/Sgt. Slaughter A video played, showing Sgt. Slaughter coming out as Hulk Hogan's mystery partner and a few highlights from matches and scenarios between the Koloffs and Sgt. Slaughter. =B-
Nikita Koloff vs. Sgt. Slaughter Nikita came down to the ring along with his Uncle Ivan Koloff. Sgt. Slaughter did not come down to the ring alone. No, he was waving old glory, which brought up a 'U.S.A.' chant from the crowd. Slaughter seemed to feed on it in the early goings of the match, gaining a quick advantage. This match was definitely not for the faint of heart as it was a brawl from beginning to end. Nikita used some well-timed interference from his Uncle to secure the advantage several times over and after one cheapshot from Uncle Ivan, he popped Slaughter with the Russian Sickle and made the pinfall, picking up the win over Slaughter. Nikita Koloff b. Sgt. Slaughter =B
After the match, Ivan came in the ring with the Russian chain and began just whipping the back of Sgt. Slaughter with it! Just like this past Monday, the fans began chanting for Hogan as Slaughter was being beat in the middle of the ring. =B Again, Hogan did NOT disappoint the fans as he came running down to make the save, dodging a chain shot from Ivan and laying into him with punches. He turned and laid out Nikita with a clothesline, clearing the ring and standing over his fallen friend. =B- Match Intro For Arn Anderson/Magnum T.A. A video played showing the history between the Enforcer Arn Anderson and Magnum T.A., including highlights of the tag bouts they were in especially. =C
Arn Anderson vs. Magnum T.A. The Enforcer was accompanied to the ring by his manager James J. Dillon and looked confident in his corner as T.A. made his entrance. The two men began the match by trading a series of blows and some trash talking with T.A. gaining an advantage, sending Anderson outside the ring looking for cover. Arn talked things over with Dillon and then climbed back into the ring, using his experience and technical wrestling knowledge to his advantage to begin to wear down Magnum. He focused in on the back and the neck of Magnum with forearm blows and backbreakers and other submission tactics. Magnum got the crowd behind him though and fired back against the Enforcer, almost hitting his belly-to-belly suplex until J.J. got up on the apron as a distraction. Magnum released the Enforcer and went after Dillon, who hopped down quickly. Magnum turned back around and ran towards Arn, who caught Magnum in the Anderson Spinebuster and quickly floated over, getting the pinfall and the three count. Arn Anderson b. Magnum T.A. =C
After the match, Ric Flair came down seemingly to celebrate with his friend but instead they just took turns putting the boots to Magnum T.A.! J.J. waved to the back and out came...Greg Valentine? The United States Champion joined in the beatdown of Magnum T.A., lowering the amount of friends Ricky Steamboat has to watch his back later tonight. =B America vs. Russia One More Time The cameras quickly moved backstage where Hulk Hogan was lacing his boots. He looked up and over at the camera, explaining that tonight he was going to do what the Miracle on Ice team did back in the Olympics. He's going to do what the United States did to the Soviet Union, brother. Tonight he along with his 24 inch pythons and all the millions of Hulkamaniacs out there is going to totally annihilate that big bad nasty Russian dude. They may have taken Sgt. Slaughter out of the equation, brothers, but tonight will be in a steel cage where no one can interfere. Tonight with the power of each and every Hulkamaniac and American out there he's going to put an end to Ivan Koloff once and for all. Whatcha gonna do, Russian Bear, when the power of Hulkamania runs wild over you? =B Match Intro for Ivan Koloff/Hulk Hogan Another video played, this time showing the history between Hulk Hogan and the Koloffs, dating all the way back to Hulk Hogan's first appearance here in MACW. =B Hogan Entrance "When it comes crashing down and it hurts inside. You've gotta take a stand, it won't help to hide. When you hurt my friends, well you hurt my pride I've gotta be a man, I can't let it slide." "Real American" played over the P.A. system as the crowd rose up in cheers for the Immortal Hulk Hogan as the Hulkster made his way out and toward the ring. He ran his fingers over the steel of the cage for a moment and then climbed inside, moving along to the center of the ring and flexing, cupping his ear to each corner of the ring. He selected a side and pointed before ripping his shirt off and tossing it into the crowd. Fans could be seen fighting over the remains of that t-shirt. =B-
Steel Cage Match Ivan Koloff vs. Hulk Hogan Ivan came down to the ring with the chain wrapped around his neck and Nikita by his side. Ivan slid inside the ring and stood in his corner as the cage door was locked with the referee not realizing that Ivan still has that large chain wrapped around his neck! When the door is locked, the bell sounds and this match is underway! Ivan pulled the chain down from around his neck and began swinging it slightly in front of him as he slowly circled the ring. Hogan moved along as well, eyeing up the chain in front of the Russian Bear. The referee could only look on as he couldn't disqualify Ivan in this match since there is no disqualification. The winner can only come via pinfall or submission. Ivan tossed the chain out, smacking Hogan on the thigh. Hogan flinched at the pain but remained at a distance from Koloff. Ivan shot the chain out again and this time Hogan caught it and a power struggle began between the Russian Bear and the Immortal one! Each man would not budge as both gave a good base and pulled on the chain. Hulk finally let go and Ivan went flying back into the corner with his own momentum! Hulk rushed in and began working his advantage with rights and lefts to the forehead of Koloff! The Immortal one began his usual use of power moves and playing to the crowd as he held the advantage over Koloff. He even rammed Koloff's head into the cage a couple of times, busting the Russian's forehead open! Hogan did play too much to the crowd though, allowing Koloff to get to his chain and he took out Hogan's knee with a clip and then began choking Hogan with the chain! The Russian Bear tightened the chain even more around Hogan's neck as Hogan tried to fight free but couldn't! Koloff finally let Hogan go but wrapped the chain around his fist and used it to bust Hogan open! The crowd watched with jaws dropped as the Russian Bear called for his bear hug finisher, picking Hogan up and squeezing the life out of the fan favorite. The fans began chanting Hogan's name as the referee raised Hogan's arm and it dropped. The referee raised it a second time and it dropped. One more time and the match is over. Hogan's arm was raised and... ... ... ... ... it dropped! ... ... ... NO! Hogan pulled it back up at the last second! He clapped the ears of Ivan Koloff! A second time! A third time finally broke the hold and Hogan fell to a knee as chants of 'Hogan, Hogan' filled the arena. Everyone was on their feet as Ivan grabbed the chain and wrapped it around his fist again. He punched the bleeding forehead of Hulk and Hulk's eyes went wide and he looked right up at Ivan! Another punch had Hogan pulling to his feet and moving about the ring as the adrenaline began flowing! Ivan punched Hogan again and Hogan pointing at Ivan, wagging his finger at the Russian Bear! Another punch was blocked and Hogan rallied back with several punches to the bleeding forehead of Ivan Koloff! He picked him up and bodyslammed him to the mat! Hogan dropped Koloff with a clothesline before sending him off against the ropes and dropping the Russian Bear with the big boot! Hogan cupped his ear to the crowd before bouncing off the ropes again and dropping that Atomic Legdrop! Hogan made the cover and got a 1...2...3! Hogan has defeated two Russians in two straight Pay-Per-Views! Hulk Hogan b. Ivan Koloff =B+
Following the match, Nikita came inside the ring and pulled his Uncle out as Hogan posed for the crowd! The attendants were working on removing the cage as Hogan turned to each side, posing for everyone there and celebrating his victory to a chant of 'U.S.A., U.S.A.' =A+ And it was time for an intermission as the cage was removed.

MACW Spring Stampede Dean Smith Center. Chapel Hill, North Carolina Friday Week 4 April 1983 Attendance: 14,250 Overall Rating: A Buyrate: 17,814 Match Intro For Jake Roberts/Wahoo McDaniel While fans were coming back to their seats from intermission, a video played, highlighting the beginnings of the feud between Jake The Snake and Wahoo McDaniel. =C+
Jake Roberts vs. Wahoo McDaniel When Jake made his entrance, he was carrying a rather large bag that seemed to have something living inside it because the bag moved on it's own on occassion. Bob Caudle and Bobby Heenan spoke about what might be in that bag. Both of them agreed that it just might be a snake inside there, based on Jake Roberts' past. Wahoo was greeted to cheers from the crowd when he came down though it wasn't as much as usual. Perhaps it is a signal that his run here in MACW is coming toward a close? These two had a great psychological match with Wahoo constantly staring over at the bag in Jake's corner. It kept Wahoo from keeping any consistent advantage over Jake, serving as a great distraction there. Jake picked up the pinfall win after his usual DDT. Jake Roberts b. Wahoo McDaniel =A
After the match, Jake walked over to his bag and opened it up, emptying out a rather large snake to the mat! A hush fell over the crowd and they grew wide-eyed as Jake placed the snake on top of a prone Wahoo McDaniel! The snake slithered around Wahoo and actually bit the native american on the cheek! Jake finally got the snake to release but Wahoo is in serious need of some medical help! =C+ Leaving MACW Bob Caudle and Bobby Heenan spoke briefly about a video being sent in by Paul Orndorff before playing it. In the video, Orndorff spoke about the neck injury given to him by Harley Race and basically said that Mr. Wonderful is no longer Wonderful here in MACW. He's packing his bags and leaving the promotion. =A Match Intro For Midnight Express/Midnight Rockers A video played highlighting the background between the two Midnight teams. It focused on the fact that the Midnight Express have stolen the U.S. Tag Team Title belts. =C
United States Tag Team Titles On The Line The Midnight Express vs. The Midnight Rockers(c) The Express came down to the ring wearing the Rockers' tag team title belts and accompanied to the ring, of course, by their manager Jim Cornette. The Midnight Rockers came out to a nice ovation from the crowd. They are definitely growing more and more popular with the fans here. Bobby Eaton and Marty Jannetty started things out and the fan favorite Jannetty picked up some speed against Eaton, finally knocking him out of the ring with a dropkick. Eaton shook his head out of the ring and regrouped with Cornette for a moment before re-entering the ring and kicking Jannetty in the gut when they got close. Eaton held Jannetty and made the tag, letting Condrey get a kick in and the Midnight Express began their usual quick tags and double team moves much to the happiness of their manager. Jannetty was definitely the face-in-peril in this match but he wouldn't give up as both Eaton and Condrey got near-falls on him. Eaton went to the top rope, presumably for the Alabama Jam but he was caught by an outstretched boot of Jannetty! Both men lay on the ground while the referee began the count. Slowly they began moving toward their corners and each made a tag. In came Condrey and in came Shawn Michaels, who knocked both Condrey and Eaton down! Eaton rolled out of the ring while Shawn whipped Condrey across and nailed him with a forearm shot before nipping up! Michaels rallied the crowd behind him and Condrey stumbled backward to tag out to Eaton. Eaton came in but was met with a flurry of punches by Michaels! Jim Cornette climbed up on the apron, drawing the referee's attention. Michaels saw this and grabbed Eaton, whipping him across the ring toward Cornette! Eaton stopped at the last moment and turned around...Double Superkick by the Midnight Rockers! Eaton falls to the mat and Jannetty knocks Jim Cornette off the apron while Michaels makes the cover. Shawn gets a 1...2...3 count and the Midnight Rockers retain their tag titles! The Midnight Rockers b. The Midnight Express =C+
Triple Threat? The cameras moved backstage quickly to show Ric Flair, Greg Valentine, Arn Anderson and James J. Dillon talking things over. They spoke about how Arn beat Magnum T.A. earlier and Valentine mentioned Piper and said that they have their gameplan all ready for tonight's match. Flair briefly mentioned Steamboat and said that he's going to go get ready for his match. =B+ Pay The Piper Roddy Piper was also shown backstage and said that he's been going for that United States Title since the beginning of the year and tonight Valentine's going to pay the piper. As for those idiots he's running with now? If they step in his way he's going to make sure they get knocked out as well because one way or another Roddy Piper is walking out the United States Heavyweight Champion. =A+ Match Intro For Greg Valentine/Roddy Piper A video played highlighting the life and times between Greg Valentine and Roddy Piper. Piper has been going for that U.S. Title for quite awhile and hasn't had a chance to grasp it. Will he do it tonight? =A+
Street Fight United States Title On The Line Greg Valentine (c) vs. Roddy Piper It is, of course, the Champion's priviledge to be able to come to the ring last so Roddy Piper's music fired up first and the Hot Rod stepped out from the back looking serious as he moved down the long aisle. The fans gasped as the curtains parted behind him and the Hammer came running out, smashing Piper in the back of the head with the U.S. Title belt! Piper went down hard and Valentine fired multiple shots to the back of the head with the belt before stomping on the fallen Scot. The bell hadn't even sounded yet as neither combatant had gotten to the ring for this street fight! Valentine rammed Piper's head into the steel guardrail and it could be seen that Piper was busted open early! Valentine tugged Piper down to the ring with him and pushed him inside while Valentine slid in as well. A cover was made by the Hammer and this one might be over quickly. 1... ... ... ... 2... ... ... ... Kickout by Piper! The crowd roared as Piper somehow got that shoulder up! Valentine couldn't believe it and looked toward the referee, yelling that it was a three count. Valentine wasted time, letting Piper recover some before turning his attention back to the Scot. Valentine signalled that it was over and grabbed Piper's legs for the Figure 4! Valentine leaned in and Piper rolled him into a small package! But he only got a two count and Valentine popped up from it quickly and stomped down on Piper. Valentine leaned down and began raking at the busted open forehead of Piper, making him bleed more and giving him a crimson mask in the ring! Valentine rolled outside the ring and threw the timekeeper off his chair, grabbing it and folding it up. He slid inside the ring and waited for Piper to slowly get to his feet. Piper didn't even know where he was inside the ring as he staggered around. Valentine lifted the chair and...got kicked in the gut! Piper began throwing almost blind punches toward Valentine! Some connected and some didn't but it was enough to stagger Valentine backward and through the ropes. The crowd cheered as Piper began wiping blood out of his eyes and rolled underneath the bottom rope, giving chase to the Hammer! He caught up to him halfway up the ramp and leveled him with a forearm shot to the back! Piper staggered a little before wrapping his arms around Valentine and locking in a Sleeperhold on the ramp! Valentine's arms flailed but he couldn't break free and slowly began to go out. He was slowly dropping to his knees when Arn Anderson stepped out from the back! Piper saw the Enforcer and kept Valentine between himself and Anderson, finally releasing a slumped Valentine and coming face-to-face with Double A! Piper and Anderson jaw-jack back and forth before coming to blows! They trade punches back and forth with Piper getting the better of Anderson! Piper grabs the Enforcer and slams his head against the steel guardrail before staggering backward and dropping to a knee. It can easily be seen that he's lost way too much blood. Piper tries to cover Valentine outside there but the referee is telling him that he has to get Valentine back inside the ring to win the match. Piper looks at the referee in frustration and tries to pick up Valentine slowly dragging the lifeless body of the Hammer back toward the ring. He has to stop several times, looking dizzy but he manages to get back to the ring and rolls Valentine inside. He turns to look back up the aisle and... ... ... ... KEE-RACK!!! Piper is NAILED by a chair by Arn Anderson! The Enforcer rolls Piper in the ring and slides inside himself. He picks up Piper and drops an Anderson DDT! Piper is OUT! Anderson looks over at Valentine and grabs him, pulling him over on top of his opponent. Could it end like this??? 1... ... ... ... 2... ... ... ... 3! Yes! Valentine has retained his United States Heavyweight Title over Roddy Piper in this street fight! Greg Valentine b. Roddy Piper =A
We Still Want The Belts Backstage, the Midnight Rockers are celebrating and moving down the hallway when they turn a corner and both are hit in the head with a chair! The Midnight Express sneer down at them, grabbing the United States Tag Team Title belts and walking off again. =C I've Earned This Ricky Steamboat is backstage getting ready for his main event match tonight with Ric Flair. He looked up in the camera and said that since winning the NWA World Heavyweight Title Flair has become a different man. Tonight, Steamboat is going to prove that the change is not always good. He's going to go into this match with science in mind and use his technical wrestling skills to pick up the win. He's earned this title shot and tonight he's going to prove it. =A+ Limousine Riding, Jet Flying Ric Flair was alone, standing near the entrance ramp backstage when J.J. Dillon approached him. J.J. asked if he was ready and Flair said he definitely is. Tonight, the Nature Boy is gonna walk that aisle, style and profile, 2 out of 3 falls against the Dragon. Change isn't good? Flair is just keeping up with the times. But then again a diamond is forever and so is Ric Flair. Whooo =A+ Match Intro For Ric Flair/Ricky Steamboat A video played with the crowd roaring in the background, setting up the match tonight between Flair and Steamboat. =A+
Main Event! 2 Out Of 3 Falls 1 Hour Time Limit NWA World Heavyweight Title On The Line Ric Flair(c) vs. Ricky Steamboat The sounds of Ricky Steamboat's entrance theme began and the crowd rose to their feet in cheers as the Dragon stepped out from the back. He headed right to the ring and climbed inside, leaning against the ropes and stretching as he listened to the fans and looked down the aisle waiting for his opponent. It wasn't long before the music changed and 'Thus Spake Zarathustra' began to play with the cheers changing to boos as Ric Flair and J.J. Dillon walked out. Flair gave a little strut down the aisle, wearing his blue sequined robe. J.J. stood at ringside as Flair climbed into the ring, releasing a 'whoooo' to the crowd. Flair and Steamboat stood in their corners as they were introduced. Flair gave a little strut with his introduction and referee Tommy Young rose the NWA World Title belt for everyone to see before handing it outside and waving his hand to call for the bell. Flair and Steamboat slowly began to circle each other and then locked up. Flair pushed Steamboat back into the ropes but released on a clean break, backing up and beginning to circle around again. Another collar and elbow tie up leads to an armdrag by Steamboat. Both men pop up and stare each other down. Flair turns and walks a strut along the ring, keeping one eye on the Dragon. They circle again and lock up. Flair wraps in a side headlock but is quickly pushed back against the ropes by Steamboat and shot off to the opposite side. Flair comes back with a shoulder block, sending Steamboat to the mat. Flair bounces quickly off the ropes and leaps over a fallen Steamboat to hit the ropes again. Steamboat with a high hiplock takeover of the Nature Boy. A deep armdrag takeover moves into an armbar on Flair by the Dragon. Flair quickly steps to his feet and pushes Steamboat back against the turnbuckles. Flair slaps the Dragon but Steamboat slaps him right back! It's a slap-war between the two until Flair takes two steps back and falls right on his ass, scooting back from Steamboat. Tommy Young keeps Steamboat back while Flair slowly rises to his feet. Flair is slowly backing toward the corner while Steamboat moves in on him. A staredown between the two leads to another collar and elbow tieup. Flair pushes Steamboat back into the corner. The referee looks for a clean break but Flair hits a forearm shot to the gut and a LOUD knife-edge chop across Steamboat's chest! 'Whooo' from the Nature Boy. Another chop to the chest by Flair! He grabs Steamboat's chin and hits a right hand against the jaw, leading Tommy Young to step in and warn Flair about the punch. This gives Steamboat a little time to recover and Flair gets a dose of his own medicine as Steamboat fires a chop to Flair's chest! Flair retaliates with a punch to the gut. Steamboat with a chop. Flair with a chop! Steamboat with a chop. Steamboat with another chop! And another! He's backing Flair up toward the turnbuckles but Flair grabs Steamboat and turns him into the corner and delivers a hard knife-edge chop to the Dragon. Steamboat spins and fires a chop to Flair's chest again! Steamboat with shots to the chest of Flair and then a right hand to the jaw as he backs Flair into another corner. Flair ducks an overhead forearm shot, sending Steamboat back into the corner where Flair strikes with another knife-edge chop! Steamboat fires back with a chop of his own! Several more back Flair into another corner as they seem to be going around the ring with this! Steamboat whips Flair across the ring to the opposite corner. Flair bounces out into a HIGH back body drop by Steamboat, hitting his back hard on the mat! Flair crawls across the ring screaming and rolling to the outside and safety. J.J. Dillon comes to check on Flair as he slowly makes his way to his feet while the referee counts. Flair and Dillon speak with each other for a moment before Flair climbs the steps and moves inside the ring again. Steamboat looks ready for some more, all fired up now. The two men circle each other again several times before locking up in that collar and elbow tieup again. Flair quickly turns it into a side headlock on Steamboat and wrenches in the pressure. Steamboat grabs his arms and lifts it toward an overhead wristlock. Both men fight to win the hold as their arms are up in the air. Steamboat finally pushes Flair down to the mat and grabs another armbar. Steamboat sits on his knees as he holds Flair down and then lifts up slightly, dropping several knees into the shoulder of the Nature Boy as Flair cries out in pain. Steamboat grabs Flair's hand and twists it to shouts from the Nature Boy. Tommy Young asks Flair if he wants to give but Flair refuses. Steamboat holds that wristlock and then drops an elbow onto the arm of Flair. A second elbowdrop from Steamboat and then he applies more pressure as Flair works to get toward his feet. Flair slowly reaches his feet and backs Steamboat into the ropes. He sends Steamboat off the opposite way and Steamboat drops Flair with a shoulderblock! Flair gets up and is quickly brought back down with a deep armdrag by Steamboat into an armbar once again as Steamboat focuses on that arm. Steamboat uses the leverage as he works that armbar on Flair. Flair slowly rises up and Steamboat turns the hold into a hammerlock on Flair. Steamboat really wrenches in the pressure on Flair. Flair turns it and drops Steamboat with a drop toehold into a waistlock on the mat. Steamboat is quick to sit out and lock the hammerlock on Flair again. Steamboat drops a few knees once again on Flair's arm. He seems to be focusing on that one area. Steamboat lifts up and locks a half nelson on Flair's arm, turning him over and getting a one count by Tommy Young. Flair fights back against Steamboat, slowly getting to his knees once again. Steamboat moves the hold back into the armbar and Flair fires a chop against Steamboat's chest with his free hand. Several more nearly knock Steamboat off his feet! Flair backs Steamboat into the ropes and sends him off to the opposite side. Steamboat slides underneath Flair's legs and out behind him, grabbing Flair's legs and dropping him face-first to the mat. And Steamboat goes back into that hammerlock on Flair. After about a minute of the hold, Flair fights to his feet and grabs Steamboat by the hair, dragging him back into the turnbuckle. Tommy Young looks for a clean break and nearly gets it but Flair fires a forearm shot to the head of the Dragon. Flair hesitates and then delivers a second one, rocking Steamboat. Flair backs up and Steamboat follows. Flair delivers another big forearm shot, sending Steamboat to the mat. Steamboat definitely looks dazed as he moves back toward his feet. Flair lays in a devestating chop to Steamboat's chest. Flair backs Steamboat into the corner and Steamboat lays in a chop against Flair's chest! Flair measures Steamboat and fires back with a right hand against the face of the Dragon! Steamboat with another chop and another! Flair backs up toward the ropes and Steamboat delivers a dropkick, sending Flair through the ropes and to the outside once again! Referee Tommy Young begins his count as Flair quickly pops up to his feet, takes two steps and then falls flat on his face on the outside. J.J. Dillon looks on at Flair, trying to help his man to his feet. Young warns Dillon about any interference in this match and slowly Flair rolls back inside before the ten count can be registered. Flair slowly gets to his feet and offers a hand out for a test of strength. Steamboat takes it but gets a kick to the gut instead. Flair raises Steamboat up and delivers a devestating chop to the chest of the Dragon before giving an irish whip across the ring to the ropes. No, Steamboat reverses it. Flair comes back into an armdrag into an armbar by Steamboat! The Dragon continues his work on the arm of Flair as he wrenches that armbar in tight. Flair works it for a moment and slowly gets to his feet again. He walks Steamboat along the ring and pokes him in the eye! Steamboat staggers a moment and Flair drops a chopblock right into the knee of the Dragon! Steamboat drops to the mat from the move and Flair is up quickly. He grabs Steamboat's legs and gives a sharp kick to the right knee! He releases the left and drops an elbow down on that right knee, wrenching the knee now and focusing his attention on that, obviously to set up for the Figure 4. Flair continued to work in holds focused on the knee of Steamboat, trying to keep the high-flyer both grounded and set up for the Figure 4 Leglock. After several minutes of that, Flair backed off into the ropes and dropped a knee to the head of Steamboat! Steamboat held his forehead in agony and Flair released a 'Whoooo' to the crowd. He walked around Steamboat and then grabbed the legs again, moving in for that Figure 4 Leglock but Steamboat grabbed him and rolled him into a small package, getting a 1...2..3 count on a surprised Flair! And just like that, Steamboat is up one fall to none! Ric Flair couldn't believe it and turned, stomping down on Steamboat angrily! Flair maintained the advantage for several more minutes, continuing to focus on the knee of Steamboat. But Steamboat reversed an irish whip into the corner and Flair flipped over the turnbuckle and landed on the apron! Flair ran across the ring and quickly rose up the turnbuckles there but got caught by Steamboat! Steamboat bodyslammed Flair off the top turnbuckle but his knee nearly buckled, sending him staggering along the mat so that he couldn't take quick advantage of his momentum. Steamboat, though, continued the advantage for a long time, working the arm of Flair still. With the momentum firmly on his side, Steamboat went to the top turnbuckle, calling for his Flying Body Press! Flair looked around and then grabbed Tommy Young, distracting the official as J.J. lifted up and pushed Steamboat off the top turnbuckle to the mat! Flair released the official and walked over to Steamboat, lifting his legs and locking in the Figure 4 Leglock! Steamboat cried out in pain as Flair wrenched the pressure in! With referee Tommy Young asking Steamboat if he gives, Flair got added leverage by grabbing hands with J.J. Dillon! They released before the referee turned around to look at them. The crowd tried to tell Tommy Young what was going on but there wasn't anything that Young could do except ask Steamboat again. Flair got the leverage again and Steamboat finally submitted! The tide of this 2 out of 3 falls match has shifted in favor of Flair. Both men are tied 1-1. Flair released the hold after the submission and pulled to his feet, strutting across the ring to boos from the crowd. After more action, Bob Caudle explained that there are only 10 minutes left in this 1 hour time limit match! The two men continued fighting with Flair keeping the momentum for quite awhile before Steamboat finally caught an advantage, reversing a suplex inside the ring! Steamboat got only a 2 count by laying his hand on top of Flair. Both men seemed tired at this point and were slow to get to their feet. The ring announcer began counting down the 30 seconds left in the match! Steamboat began firing on Flair, taking the Nature Boy down with a right hand. Steamboat quickly set Flair up on the top turnbuckle and stepped up, hooking Flair and landing a quick superplex on Flair! The countdown began at 10 by the ring announcer as the Dragon signalled that it is over. Steamboat moved behind Flair and locked in a waistlock, bringing Flair over with a German Suplex and a bridge! 1... ... ... ... ... 2... ... ... ... ... ... DING! DING! DING! 3...! Ricky Steamboat pops up and raises his hands! We have a NEW NWA World Heavyweight Champion, folks! Referee Tommy Young looks around and then moves down to confer with the ring announcer, taking the NWA World Heavyweight Title belt. Ring Announcer: "Ladies and Gentlemen, referee Tommy Young has determined that the time limit was reached before the 3 count! Therefore, this match is a draw! Still your NWA World Heavyweight Champion "The Nature Boy" Ric Flair!" Bob Caudle called Flair a very lucky man to walk away with his title intact as Spring Stampede came to a close. My thoughts on Spring Stampede I'm sad to see Orndorff leaving, I've always been a big fan and not sure if this is storyline or that he's just caught up in the numbers.. Jake over Wahoo is the direction I would've gone Rockers over the Express in a battle of the Midnights...This should elevate the Rockers and give them some momentum with US tag straps as they are still really young at this point in time...Angle afterwards continues with building this rivalry I'm glad to see valentine beat Piper, I really like "The Hammer" with Arn and Ric Steamboat is my favorite of all time, so I marked out huge for him winning the World Title...Although I think Steamboat is better in that chasing the title role... Anyways love the DOTT keep up the good stuff

MACW Monday Nitro Dale F. Halton Arena. Charlotte, North Carolina Monday Week 1 May 1983 Attendance: 6,868 Overall Rating: B+ Rating: 75,701 Spring Stampede Revisited Match highlights were shown of the Spring Stampede match between Ric Flair and Ricky Steamboat that went to a time limit draw! =A+ Still The Champ! Within the Dale F. Halton Arena, 'Thus Spake Zarathustra' began to play as the show opened up revealing the Nature Boy Ric Flair and J.J. Dillon coming out from the back to start the show off. They slipped inside the ring and Flair announced that he is STILL the NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Last night, Ricky Steamboat walked that aisle and couldn't get the job done. He couldn't, whooo, beat the man. But that's not a surprise since Ric Flair IS the best wrestler in the NWA. =A+ Flair's words were interrupted by the appearance of his opponent at Spring Stampede: Ricky Steamboat. Steamboat climbed inside the ring and told Flair that he got lucky at Spring Stampede. Were it not for the time limit, Steamboat would have pinned Flair and won that coveted title belt. =A+ Flair argued a little and moved slightly inside the ring, distracting Steamboat as someone came from the back. Steamboat was nailed with a forearm shot to the back of the head by the Enforcer Arn Anderson! Flair laid a chop into Steamboat's chest as he staggered forward. He turned Steamboat around and Anderson kicked him in the gut and landed an Anderson DDT on the Dragon. Flair and Anderson smiled at each other, raising each other's arms as they stood over the fallen Dragon. =A+
Sgt. Slaughter vs. Gary Royal The former drill SGT. came out after losing last Friday night against Nikita Koloff with a chip on his shoulder. Royal was no match for Slaughter, who ended things quickly with the Cobra Clutch and a submission victory. Sgt. Slaughter b. Gary Royal =C-
Not A Fluke The cameras moved backstage where The Midnight Rockers were shown very unhappy about what happened at Spring Stampede. They won the match but got attacked by the Midnight Express afterward and lost their belts to them again. They stated that this time they're gonna rock the express and make sure they leave the building with their belts intact. =C
The Southern Boys vs. Bad Company To most people, this was the time to go to the concession stands and the bathroom as these 4 young men did not put together a very good match but the fans didn't care about it either way. Some people did see that Steve Armstrong pinned Pat Tanaka after a missle dropkick, though. The Southern Boys b. Bad Company =E
Open Challenge Fans definitely returned to their seats as the Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion Harley Race came down toward the ring. He slipped inside with a microphone in hand and reiterated his open challenge for anyone to face him tonight in a title defense. He already put one man out of MACW. Who wants to be next? =A The curtains parted and out walked...Sting! Sting had a microphone in hand and said that HE accepts the open challenge laid out by Harley Race tonight. He lost his partner at Spring Stampede after the Road Warriors put him through a table but tonight he will redeem himself by winning the Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Title. =B-
Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Title On The Line Harley Race vs. Sting Harley definitely did not take Sting seriously and that was easily shown by his facial expressions at the beginning of the match. Sting got an early near-fall on a rollup and that kicked Harley into business. Race pretty much dominated the match with Sting getting in some offense here and there but the end was really never in doubt so much except for that near-fall at the beginning. Race got the pinfall after his Piledriver finisher. Harley Race b. Sting =B-
We Still Have The Belts Jim Cornette and the Midnight Express were backstage shining up the United States Tag Team Title belts. Cornette looked up at the camera and declared his men were defending their United States Tag Team Titles tonight against the Midnight Rockers. Tonight, they will make sure to retain and send the Express right toward the top. =C
United States Tag Team Titles On The Line Spring Stampede Rematch! The Midnight Rockers(c) vs. The Midnight Express w/Jim Cornette The Midnight Express, of course, were accompanied to the ring by their manager James E. Cornettte and the United States Tag Team Titles. The referee for the match was Teddy Long. This was a very good match, slightly above average for these two teams together. Shawn Michaels played the face-in-peril tonight with the Midnight Express double-teaming Michaels to cheers from their manager and boos from the crowd. Michaels reversed a Dennis Condrey sleeperhold into a jawbreaker and began crawling toward his corner. Tags were made on both sides and Jannetty took the match over with punches and body slams. He climbed the top turnbuckle and dropped Eaton with a missle dropkick for a two count. Jannetty slammed Eaton down and made the tag to Shawn Michaels, both of them beginning to mount the top turnbuckles! Dennis Condrey came in and crotched Jannetty on the top turnbuckle! Teddy Long was taking Condrey out when Jim Cornette slid his tennis racket inside to Eaton! Shawn Michaels came off the top rope and was NAILED by the tennis racket! Eaton slid it back outside the ring and made the cover. Long turned around and made the 3 count, giving us NEW United States Tag Team Champions! The Midnight Express b. The Midnight Rockers =C+
What's Next? After the ring was cleared of the last match, the crowd rose on their feet in cheers as out walked none other than Hulk Hogan! He was waving old glory as he walked out to the ring and slid inside, looking around to the crowd. 'well, you know something, Hulkamaniacs, I beat the Russians down. I proved America can always be victorious. Now, I think that I should be moving on and up.' Hogan talked about wanting a title shot at either Valentine or Flair. =A Hogan's speech was interrupted by the entrance of the Living Legend Larry Zbyszko. Zbyszko asked why Hogan thinks he deserves a title shot. After all, he's just the young and the useless. He doesn't have the brains to beat somebody like the Living Legend. Last time, Zbyszko just slipped on a banana peel. =A Basically, what Zbyszko is saying is that he is challenging Hulk Hogan to a match next week! =A Hogan looked Zbyszko up and down and told him that he will see the Legend in the ring next week. =A
NWA World Tag Team Titles On The Line The Koloffs(c) vs. The Youngbloods The Koloffs were NOT in a very good mood this week after Ivan's loss against Hogan inside the cage at Spring Stampede. They got to take their frustration out on the Youngbloods this week. The match was totally dominated by the Koloffs. The Youngbloods were bleeding early and often with Mark finally submitting to an inverted backbreaker by Ivan. The Koloffs b. The Youngbloods. =B-
While the Koloffs were standing inside the ring, Paul Ellering stepped out with his Road Warriors behind him. He looked up at the Koloffs and called them pathetic. He talked about how they couldn't beat some loser like Hulk Hogan 2 on 1. So they will be no match for his Road Warriors. He ended it by reminding them that the Road Warriors are coming for those belts. =C+ Mystery Partner Revealed Ric Flair and Arn Anderson came down to the ring first and then Ricky Steamboat was introduced. Flair said that he figured Steamboat couldn't find a partner to face them. Steamboat just smiled and introduced his mystery partner, a man that Flair and Anderson screwed at Spring Stampede: The Hot Rod Roddy Piper! =A
Main Event! Ric Flair and Arn Anderson w/J.J. Dillon vs. Ricky Steamboat and Roddy Piper This would be the last match refereed by James Beard as he was released from his contract shortly after this match. All 4 men started the match off with a nice brawl that ended with Flair and Anderson exiting the ring and regrouping with J.J. Dillon. Anderson started the match with Steamboat and Steamboat began that technical wrestling that he's known for, wearing the Enforcer down. He made a quick tag with Piper and Piper gave a swift kick to the gut of a prone Anderson. The crowd was definitely on the Hot Rod's side as he smacked the taste out of Anderson's mouth! Anderson came back with a rake of the eyes and began working over Piper's leg. The Enforcer tagged out to the NWA World Heavyweight Champion and Flair continued the attack on Piper's leg. Several months ago, Piper had his leg broken by Valentine so this was a sound attack by Flair and Anderson. Quick tags were the story of this team as they continued to put the pressure on Piper, working that knee with a variety of holds, including ramming it against the ringpost. The Enforcer later on locked in a sleeperhold on Piper in quite an insult since that is Piper's finisher. Piper nearly went out but fought back with the crowd's support and lifted Anderson up, dropping him with a back suplex. Both men lay on the ground as James Beard counted the 10 count. Piper began to stir first crawling toward his corner. Anderson finally started moving, heading toward Flair. Tags were made on both sides! Steamboat came in and began chopping Flair! He dropped Flair with an armdrag and then a dropkick! The NWA World Champion was rocked! Arn Anderson came in and was grabbed by James Beard, being pushed out of the ring. J.J. Dillon threw his shoe in but it was grabbed by Steamboat! Steamboat turned toward a begging off Flair, holding the shoe threateningly but then tossed it out of the ring before James Beard turned around! Steamboat grabbed Flair and body slammed him before heading to the top turnbuckle! The Dragon flashed his symbol and then leapt as Flair rose to his feet and connected with the Flying Body Press! Piper kept Anderson out of the ring and Steamboat picked up the pinfall! Ricky Steamboat has pinned the NWA World Heavyweight Champion yet again! The show went off the air with Flair having a look of disbelief as Steamboat and Piper celebrated. Ricky Steamboat and Roddy Piper b. Ric Flair and Arn Anderson =A+
I can see Hogan taking the US title here and then starting a program with Zbyszko, but I somehow hope that Valentine retains.. Sting is still to green, but matches with race should help him raise his game...I'm going to go with harley in this one... Flair over Steve Armstrong (Anything else would be the upset of the decade), I sense an angle here Road Warriors destroy Young Stallions and Midnight's do the same over The Mulkeys... I guess I read to fast and got excited that Steamboat won the title, needless to say he is awesome in the role of chasing and that continues with the recent pinfall in the tag match Hogan vs Zbyszko program will be nice, the question is will it be over the US title? I hope Zbyszko keeps Hogan from winning title I'd also expect/like the Midnight Express to go on a long run as US tag team Champions

The Road Warriors came running down to the ring and simply dominated the Young Stallions from the start. Steve Armstrong =B
After the match, Flair picked up the microphone and said that he is done with men named Ricky Steamboat! As a matter of fact, he's leaving open an open challenge for MACW Monday Nitro to compete for the NWA World Heavyweight Title. Anyone can compete against him except Ricky Steamboat. =A+ A Strong Start? Sting was in the back, looking toward the microphone and bouncing on his feet. He talked about that tough guy Harley Race and how Race beat him on Monday night. Well, that was fine but tonight is the night of the Stinger. Tonight, Sting turns things on their heel and beats back the veteran. OWWWW!! =C+
Non-Title Rematch From Nitro! Harley Race vs. Sting The Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion walked out with confidence, sliding inside the ring and waiting for his opponent. Sting came running out and slid inside the ring, rushing Harley with a dropkick that sent the veteran careening outside the ring! Sting released a howl to the crowd as he watched down at Race. Race slid inside the ring and worked to slow down the action. The match was a little more back and forth than anyone might expect from a youngster facing a veteran. Race picked up the win with his Piledriver finisher but Sting is definitely earning some respect. Harley Race b. Sting =B
New U.S. Champ? Hulk Hogan gave a short interview in the back where he spoke about his match tonight against The Hammer. After all, what is the Hammer gonna do when the strength of all the Hulkamaniacs runs wild over you? =A
Main Event! United States Heavyweight Title On The Line Greg Valentine(c) vs. Hulk Hogan This was a definite hard-hitting matchup as both competitors are severe brawlers. Valentine went after Hogan's leg during the matchup, working it over until he could get Hogan into the Figure 4! Hogan screamed in pain as he tried to reach the ropes or flip the move over! Valentine wouldn't let him do either though, instead using the ropes to his own advantage! Hogan screamed out in pain but he wouldn't submit! Finally, Valentine smacked Hogan across the face a couple times but all this did was serve to awaken the beast within the Hulk! Hogan used his power to flip the figure 4 over but Valentine quickly broke that up. But the bad news is that Hogan went into his Hulking up routine! He no-sold punches from Valentine and rose to his feet, gaining the momentum from the crowd. He blocked a punch and then punched Valentine! A second punch! A third punch rocked the Hammer! He picked up the Hammer, bodyslamming him to the ground! The crowd stirred as the Living Legend Larry Zbyszko came running down toward the ring. Hogan saw Zbyszko coming though and turned his attention toward the Legend at ringside and so did referee Nick Patrick. Valentine slowly gathered himself behind all the action there and gave Hogan a low-blow! Hogan's eyes went wide as he fell to the mat and the Hammer dropped that Hammer elbow drop on Hogan! He turned Nick Patrick around and made the cover and gathered a successful title defense as he pinned Hulk Hogan! Greg Valentine b. It was back at the first pay-per-view of the year where Greg Valentine defended the United States Heavyweight Title against 3 top contenders in Roddy Piper, Wahoo McDaniel and Ricky Steamboat. It's definitely a match I plan to use sparingly, though. Okay, so I mixed up my diaries here I believe. But I did have at least one other Fatal 4-way match in this diary, though. LOL.

South and Royal didn't have much of a chance in this match as the Midnight Rockers continued to use their array of double-team moves. The match ended, however, when Bobby Eaton yanked Marty Jannetty out of the ring and tossed him into the security barricade, leaving Shawn Michaels to fend for himself against both members of the United States tag team champions inside the ring. The Midnight Rockers b. George South and Gary Royal =D
Shawn Michaels had nowhere to turn to and nowhere to run. So what did he do? He went after Eaton with a right hand! This match went like most of their matches have gone, the way of the hard-hitting brawl. When Piper started getting a prolonged advantage, Ric Flair, Arn Anderson and Larry Zbyszko all came down to ringside and stood around the ring. It was almost like a handicap lumberjack match for Piper. The distraction definitely worked in Valentine's favor as he began getting the advantage. Flair jumped up on the apron late in the match and while referee Teddy Long was distracted, Arn Anderson and Larry Zbyszko entered the ring. Anderson dropped Piper with a spinebuster and Zbyszko added a few kicks. When the referee turned back around, Valentine dropped the Hammer elbowdrop and picked up the pinfall win. Greg Valentine b. Roddy Piper =B
The 4 men stepped inside the ring after the match and Ric Flair took a microphone, beginning to talk about his open challenge match tonight. But whoever it is, whoever walks that aisle is gonna get their ass kicked. =A+ A Forfeit? "Ooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhh What A Rush!" The sounds of Ironman led the Road Warriors and Paul Ellering out to the ring where they slid inside and played up to the crowd, pumping their fists as they got ready for their match coming up against the NWA World Tag Team Champions. But instead of the Koloffs entering the ring, the MACW-tron lit up with them standing within a home. Ivan told the Road Warriors that they haven't beaten enough people to warrant a shot at the gold so the Koloffs will NOT come down and face them tonight. Nikita added that they can take a countout victory if they like but there are a couple of other guys who want a little revenge on the Road Warriors. =C+
The Road Warriors vs. The Young Stallions Paul Roma and Jim Powers came in, attacking the Road Warriors from behind but the Warriors no-sold the attack, turning around and staring down at the Stallions. A referee slid into the ring and the match was on with the Road Warriors dominating the Young Stallions again. Animal gave Paul Roma a military press slam to the mat and then called for the Doomsday Device! He lifted Roma on his shoulders and tagged in Hawk. Hawk went to the top turnbuckle and delievered the devestating clothesline off the top but Jim Powers pulled Roma out of the ring before the pinfall could be made. But Roma couldn't continue the match unconcious and the Young Stallions were counted out. The Road Warriors b. The Young Stallions =C-
But this had all been a set-up! The Young Stallions kept the Road Warriors distracted while the Koloffs entered the ring behind them! Ivan and Nikita hit the Road Warriors from behind with their belts and then the brawl was on between all 4 men! Apparently, the Koloffs were in the building after all! The brawl went all the way to the back and beyond camera range. =B
Special Challenge Match Larry Zbyszko vs. Hulk Hogan Zbyszko had challenged Hogan to this match last week and Hogan accepted the challenge. Hogan started the match as a brawl to begin with, catching Zbyszko at a disadvantage. But as soon as LarryLand got the momentum swinging in his own favor, he used his technical skills to keep Hogan grounded and try to keep the fans out of the match. This was a pretty even match with Zbyszko actually not cheating too much within it to keep the momentum. Zbyszko did get joined by his three buddies at ringside though and when Hogan started to fight back, Zbyszko raked his eyes and tossed him out of the ring. Zbyszko distracted referee Teddy Long and the 3 men outside annihilated Hogan outside the ring and made sure he stayed out there long enough that when Long turned around, the 10 count could be made and Hogan was counted out! Larry Zbyszko b. Hulk Hogan =A
Who's The #1 Contender? Short, pre-recorded interviews aired in succession with each of the combatants in the 4-way match tonight. Each man promised success and victory and that they would bring home the belt at Clash of the Champions. =B-
#1 Contenders Match! Winner Gets An NWA World Heavyweight Title Match at Clash Of The Champions Ricky Steamboat vs. Sgt. Slaughter vs. Harley Race vs. Jake Roberts Slaughter, Race and Roberts came out but Steamboat did not come out right away due to the attack earlier. He couldn't be counted out or anything like that so the match started without him. Roberts and Slaughter battled for a good portion of the match with Roberts keeping an advantage. Race made sure to break up some pinfall attempts, though, and even a Cobra Clutch by Slaughter on Jake The Snake was broken up by Race to prevent a losing effort. Jake started to get an advantage inside the ring and knocked Race off the apron before turning to Sgt. Slaughter. Ricky Steamboat came out to a huge crowd pop slowly going to the ring but he sped up when he saw Roberts lay out Slaughter with the DDT! Roberts made the cover but only got a 2 count after Steamboat broke up the pinfall attempt! Steamboat and Roberts exchanged punches as Jake The Snake got back up. Steamboat began getting the advantage and knocked Roberts down! He kicked Roberts in the gut and locked him in a snap suplex to the mat. Steamboat signalled to the crowd and went outside the ring, climbing the turnbuckles! Steamboat stood tall on the turnbuckles as Roberts began slowly getting to his feet. Steamboat looked on and then began shaking his head and he fell from the top turnbuckle to the mat! Steamboat must still be feeling the effects from the attack earlier tonight! But, wait, here come some people from the back! It's...Ric Flair, Arn Anderson, Greg Valentine and Larry Zbyszko! They're all headed to the ring and begin putting the boots to the Dragon! That's all referee Teddy Long needs to see to call for the bell! Ricky Steamboat is the new number one contender by DQ! Ricky Steamboat b. Jake Roberts, Sgt. Slaughter and Harley Race =A+
The 4 men don't let up on Steamboat, focusing on his leg as they have done before. They open up the cuts on his forehead and leave him lying on the ground bleeding, standing over him with smiles on their faces. =A
Main Event! NWA World Heavyweight Title On The Line Ric Flair(c) vs. Open Challenger Ric Flair remained inside the ring with his friends moving outside as he was ready for his match tonight, the open challenge that he laid out. "Lookin' for some hot stuff baby this evenin' I need some hot stuff baby tonight I want some hot stuff baby this evenin' gotta have some hot stuff gotta have some lovin' tonight." The crowd rises to their feet, looking toward the entrance as..."Hot Stuff" Eddie Gilbert walks out to a mix of boos and cheers from the crowd. The WWF wrestler is NOT who the fans expected to show up tonight. Gilbert just played it up to the crowd and entered the ring with Flair all smiles. As a matter of fact, he motioned to his friends to stand back because he's got this one. And Flair did dominate this match. Just as anyone would have expected. Gilbert got a few shots in and even got a near-fall but as one would expect, Flair's friends made sure that Gilbert didn't pick up the win. It was shortly after that that Flair locked in the Figure 4 and Gilbert had no choice but to submit. Ric Flair b. Eddie Gilbert =A
After the match, Flair held the Figure 4 on Gilbert while his friends came in the ring and stomped on the trapped Hot Stuff! Gilbert was laid open much like Ricky Steamboat had been earlier. This is awful! Gilbert might have had his knee snapped! =B+ Birth Of A Legacy? After kicking Gilbert out of the ring, the 4 men got on the microphone one at a time, proclaiming that they are the best group of wrestlers in Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling. As a matter of fact, Arn Anderson added in ""The only time this much havoc had been wreaked by this few a number of people, you need to go all the way back to the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse!" And thus the 4 Horsemen are born! =A

Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling Bob Carpenter Center. Newark, Delaware Saturday Week 2 May 1983 Attendance: 5,000 Overall Rating: A Rating: 105,472
The Midnight Express vs. The Southern Boys The show kicked off with the United States Tag Team Champions the Midnight Express coming out for this non-title bout against the Southern Boys. Tracy Smothers and Steve Armstrong were definitely both outclassed within this match and the Midnight Express used multiple double-team moves to maintain the advantage. Bobby Eaton picked up the pinfall over Steve Armstrong with an Alabama Jam. The Midnight Express b. The Southern Boys =C-
A Flirt...Maybe More? The cameras cut backstage and caught Eddie Gilbert slipping on some sweet words to Missy Hyatt. Missy definitely seemed to be eating them up. =B-
The Road Warriors vs. Bad Company This was your typical Road Warrior squash match that everyone would expect it to be. Bad Company barely even put up a fight. The match ended when Pat Tanaka was military press slammed to the outside and couldn't answer a ten count. The Road Warriors b. Bad Company =C-
The Horsemen Appear After the ring was cleared, the music of the Nature Boy began to play and out walked the members of the Horsemen. Ric Flair and Greg Valentine were proudly displaying their titles: NWA World and United States respectively. Once inside the ring, Flair took the microphone and asked 'what's causing all this?' It's the Horsemen. They are the ones who are causing all the ruckus in the NWA. They are the ones who are doing all the limousine riding, the jet-flying, the kiss stealing, the wheeling and whooo the dealing. You've got the Enforcer Arn Anderson, the Hammer and United States Heavyweight Champion Greg Valentine, the Living Legend Larry Zbyszko and of course the NWA World Heavyweight Champion the Nature Boy Ric Flair. Quite possibly the best group of athletes ever assembled in one ring. And they've got one thing to say to the rest of the Mid-Atlantic region: whether you like us or you don't like us you better learn to love us because we're the best thing going today. =A
Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Title On The Line Harley Race vs. Roddy Piper Another match that could be a main event anywhere within the country is an undercard match here at Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling as Harley Race put the Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Title on the line against Roddy Piper. This was more a technical match than anyone might expect. Neither man seemed prepared to cheat within this one and it helped make the match even better. During the match, the Horsemen came out to ringside and watched, serving as a distraction to Roddy Piper. Piper tossed Race outside the ring late in the bout and Greg Valentine actually moved quickly and handcuffed Race to the guardrail! Race couldn't make it back in the ring and was counted out but that saved his Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Title. Roddy Piper b. Harley Race =A
Once the decision was rendered, Valentine put the boots to Race outside the ring while Zbyszko, Flair and Anderson stalked Piper! A 3-on-1 disadvantage is too much for anyone so, while Piper put up a valiant effort, he was overmatched by the power of the Horsemen and left in the ring with a crimson mask. =A I Should Have Won Jake Roberts was shown in the back, holding his pet snake. He looked up in the camera and explained that he should be the number one contender right now and he would have been had he not been disqualified for the attack on Ricky Steamboat. Tonight he is going to prove to each and every person that he should be the top snake within MACW. =B+
Challenged by Jake Roberts Following MACW Monday Nitro Ricky Steamboat vs. Jake Roberts Jake came out with his usual snake in the bag. It is definitely an unnerving experience for anyone who is his opponent. And that is no different for Ricky Steamboat who looked toward the bag as he climbed into the ring. That was enough of a distraction for Jake to gain an early advantage. He choked Steamboat and focused an assault on Steamboat's neck and spine and head. Of course this would be setting him up for the dreaded DDT. Jake went for the move a couple of times but Steamboat got to the ropes before he could deliver the move. Ricky fought back with the help of the crowd and gained an advantage late within the bout. He dropped Jake with hip tosses and body slams and chops before ascending the top turnbuckle. He raised his arms and then leapt, catching the Snake with a flying body press off the top turnbuckle! Jake could not kick out and the Dragon picked up a clean win! Ricky Steamboat b. Jake Roberts =B+
I'm Here To Fight Ric Flair and the Horsemen made their way down to the ring and Flair announced that he's ready to find out who accepts his open challenge. Some familiar music begins to play and the crowd pops huge when out walks...DORY FUNK, JR! Flair's eyes go wide in the ring as the man from the doublecross ranch heads down toward the ring. The Horsemen bail out and Dory plays to the crowd. =A
Main Event! NWA World Heavyweight Title On The Line Flair Decided It Worked So Well Before, He wanted To Do It Again! Ric Flair vs. Dory Funk, Jr. Flair could not believe that he was putting his NWA World Heavyweight Title on the line against Dory Funk! He took the belt off, getting some morale support from the Horsemen and their manager J.J. Dillon before climbing inside the ring. Funk went toward Flair and Flair moved to the ropes quickly, forcing referee Randy Anderson to push Dory Funk, Jr. back from Flair. It seemed like Flair wanted nothing to do with this match. The two men locked up and Flair backed Funk into the corner before unloaded with several vicious chops. Flair smiled and turned strutting across the ring but Funk came back and kicked Flair in the bum! Flair rolled out of the ring quickly and seemed ready to walk off and take the countout loss. The Enforcer came over though and talked with him and Flair made it back in the ring before the ten count came. Dory maintained the advantage in the early-going, working over Flair's leg to set him up for the spinning toehold. Flair rolled out of the ring several times to stop the momentum from building too much for Dory and eventually poked Funk in the eyes to get the advantage. He tossed Funk outside the ring and distracted Randy Anderson so that the Horsemen could take turns beating down Funk outside the ring. Valentine whipped Funk into an Arn Anderson spinebuster outside on the blue safety mats and Anderson, then, tossed Funk back inside the ring. Flair got a two count on the fallen Funk and then really began strutting since he had the advantage over Dory. He went to work on the knee of Dory Funk, Jr., the trademark of the Nature Boy. He even executed a perfect kneedrop across the forehead of Funk and got a two count on it. Flair took a lot of time strutting though and paid for it when he whipped Funk across the ring because the irish whip was reversed and Flair went flipping over the top turnbuckle and ran along the apron, climbing the other side. Dory caught him though and bodyslammed him off the turnbuckles, gaining the momentum back much to the happiness of the crowd. Dory signalled for his finisher but was attacked from behind by Arn Anderson! The referee had no choice but to call for the bell. Dory Funk, Jr. b. Ric Flair =A+
The Horsemen flooded the ring and made their attack on Dory Funk Jr., using the numbers game to bring him down. They held Funk to allow Flair to smack the taste out of him before the ring was flooded with other superstars: Ricky Steamboat, Harley Race and Hulk Hogan hit the ring to make the save! An 8 man brawl broke out between the Horsemen and those who they have attacked, ending the show with the brawl still going on. =A
