Flair picks up the first fall at 8:23 when Race goes to pile drive him and he counters and pulls Race's legs out from under him and covers him using the ropes for leverage to go up 1-0. Race evens as one a piece after hitting a diving head butt and covering for the pin at 21:23. Race goes ahead 2-1 at the 35:45 mark when he pile drives Flair and is able to pin him. They go back and forth with no one seeming to gain an advantage until the 51:00 minute mark. Flair catches Race and locks in the figure four to gain the submission at 52:13 to even it at 2 falls apiece. They spend the next 7+ minutes jockeying back and forth but no one getting an advantage and thus the match ends in a draw at 2 falls apiece. Not enough selling shown. theoutlaw321
It must be Monday......Again..... 4:00 A.M. Monday morning, Wk1 Feb 83. Ring......Ring...... "Hello," Jim Crockett manages to say as he answers the phone trying to get awake. Huston, who had flown home from Maryland right after the PPV last night, was calling from his office in Charlotte. He had stopped by the office to do some paper work for the financial reports due the next day. Jim had stayed in Maryland and was to head home early in the morning. HH "We have got a problem. Let me rephrase that, we have a BIG problem." JC "What is it? What could possible be wrong at this hour?" HH "I had some paper work to do and I sat down in my office and popped in the tape of the PPV. " JC "Yeah, I though it was a good show. Get a bad report or something?" HH "That's not the problem." JC "Okay Huston, what is it?" HH "How many people at NWA, INC knew about the injunction that Vince had against us on Backlund and Morales?" JC "Just you and I and of course Pedro and Bob, why?" HH "Are you sure?" JC "I haven't told anyone else, you?" HH "You're going to need to see this." JC "See what?" HH "The tape of the broadcast." JC "Why?" HH "We're in trouble and you need to get home. Now!" JC "What is it Huston?" HH "Today is going to be a real busy day."
theoutlaw321
Jim had just hit the play button to run the tape thru for the 15th time. He still could not believe his eyes. But there it was, on the telecast from the PPV last night right after the announcement of the Funk v Morales match and right before the hype video of the storyline between the two was a 7-10 second clip of something that would not go away. A clip that would not only cause this to be one of the most hectic days of the company but also something that had the potential to set them back for some time. Right there on the telecast from the Comcast Center appears to be a clip of the end of a conversation between Pedro Morales and Bob Backlund from a locker room. As the clip begins you see Pedro facing the camera and someone that appears to be Bob Backlund sitting with his back to the camera. He gets up and walks out of the room. Pedro heads for the door. As he walks out of the room, the camera pan back and focuses in on the bench in front of his locker. And right there as plain as anything lays the WWF Intercontinental belt. This 10 second clip was the center of all the fuss. The 400 am phone call, as well as rushing the entire creative team back from Maryland on early flights. Now just how this clip found its way onto the telecast had already been the topic of discussion. First of all, Bob Backlund was not in Maryland last night. In fact we had not used him since the injunction came down. We had given Pedro a call to stop over on his way to Puerto Rico and see if he could shed some light on just where the footage was taken. We knew it wasn't from any locations that we had visited since Pedro and Bob had signed their contracts. Ultimately, it wouldn't matter. Our lawyers had already informed us that even if we could prove our innocence, the fact remained that the injunction had been violated. In fact both provisions had been. Backlund had appeared 'on air,' and a WWF title had been shown 'on air.' It didn't matter if we had anything to do with it or not. The court order was very specific. The repercussions? According to the injunction, a violation of the court order immediately voided the contracts that Backlund and Morales held with our company. And to top it off, we were facing a possible fine for copyright infringement for the belt being seen on air. I guess Vince had followed thru with his threat. Now it was up to Jim and Huston to figure out how.

theoutlaw321
The rest of Monday was as hectic as the first few hours. As everyone had an opinion on how the tape had been edited. This is what was known. The tape had been edited by the creative team for the last time around 2:00 PM. This was so that footage from Sat night's TV show could be included. The preshow meeting had begun at 5:00. So whoever had cut the tape had done so during this time. There had been 16 people who had the access and the knowledge to at least attempt to cut the tape. There were the 4 tech guys on staff, Huston, Jim Crockett, Verne Gagne, Sam Muchnick, Paul Boesch, Lou Thesz, George Scott, Gordon Solie, Bob Caudle, Freddy Miller, Jim Barnett, and David Crockett. Huston, Jim Crockett, and George Scott had left for lunch and returned together so they were eliminated as suspects. Verne had not arrived on site from Minnesota until around 6:00, so it couldn't have been him. The four tech guys, Gordon and Bob Caudle were all in a production meeting from 2-5. Lou and Sam were together. That left Paul, Jim Barnett, Freddy and David Crockett. Paul said he was at the hotel on the phone preparing for his promotions show on Monday. Jim and Freddy were together and David said he was at lunch with someone he met the night before. So somebody was lying. Everyone had their choice as to who it was. This had led to a heated argument between Huston and Jim Crockett as Huston pegged David for it. Jim of course sided with his brother. The discussion was interrupted by the phone ringing. JC "Hello. Let me put you on speaker phone." "Who all is there?" came Vince's voice loud and clear over the speaker. JC "Just Huston and I right now." Vince "Good morning Huston, how are you?" HH "I've been better." Vince "Yeah, I bet. Caught part of your show last night. Saw something pretty interesting." HH "Let's not beat around the bush Vince, we know you had something to do with that." Vince "It was your PPV, Huston. How would I have had anything to do with what was telecast?" HH "We haven't figured out just how yet but we will." Vince "And then what Huston?" HH "Huh?" Vince "Then what? What are you going to do? First of all I had nothing to do with it. Secondly, you boys violated a court order. That's not good." JC "Yes Vince, we have already spoken with our lawyers. We know that even if we prove you had something to do with it, it still doesn't change the fact that the injunction was violated." Vince "So where are we at?" JC "The contracts are being handled as we speak." Vince "That's fine, but there's still the copyright infringement." JC "Come on Vince, you've got what you wanted." Vince "No not quite. I won't rest until I run you guys out of business and figure out just what you're smarta** booker there is hiding." HH "I'll show you a smarta**." Vince "Easy now big fellow. You guys already broke the law; you wouldn't want to spend a few nights in jail would you?" JC " Dammit Vince what else do you want?" Vince "Everything. Haven't you heard I want to be GOD! HA Ha HA!!! and with that he hung up.

theoutlaw321
Hey I ran a show at the Riviera Hotel in NV. And got killed on all my interview segments. All my workers were being downgraded due to problems with the language barrier? I said WTF? I know everything that happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, but don't they speak English there? I looked after the show had ran and found that in the location file there were no languages set for the location. No wonder none of the workers scored higher than a C on a interview type segment. Ruined what would have been a excellent show. I won't go into all the details. Just wanted to let everyone know to check and see if it's just something that happened to just me. theoutlaw321
Also, how about an update on the status of Georgia and WCCW? Hey guy, adjusted yet? If you'll remember, Jim Crockett and Jim Barnett struck a deal and JCP bought out GCW and renamed themselves NWA, INC. But their are rumors flying about some behind the scenes politics that you may find interesting when and if they are found to be true...... As far as WCCW, I'll post an update on their status at the end of Jan as I did with the Big '3'. Any other requests?
the ismailite
Yes, I am adjusted finally. Yeah, I worked the shift before, it just always takes some getting used to. Also, I did forget about the situation with NWA INc. However, I remember the post now that you've reminded me. Also, I've gotten caught up on this thing and am still very much enjoying it! As far as being impatient with telling the story, I share the sentiment man. Sometimes you get those stories that tell themselves so to speak and want to do so faster than you can scribe it. Those are usually the best tales imo. That said, your back story is incredibly engaging! One last thing, wouldn't mine having a copy of your database:D
