Monday Wk 2 Feb 83(I know I have already posted Wed show)

Huston could feel it. He felt it all during the preshow meeting on Saturday. A meeting in which Jim Crockett and he had addressed the entire roster and laid down the law. This was done in response to the recent blowups; first by Tommy Rich, then Barnett, and of course Thunderbolt.

They informed everyone that lateness would not be tolerated. That everyone needed to do their part to strengthen the company, and if that meant putting someone over then that was what was expected. No more of the recent behavior would be looked over.

Tommy, had shaped up by the way. He was well on his way to reearning Huston's respect. He had done everything he had been asked to do and the growing feeling backstage was that he would eventually be rewarded for it.

Jim, on the other hand, acted as if he were up to something. Huston couldn't put his finger on it yet but he knew deep down that something was up. In fact, there was a growing contingent among the creative staff that was willing to put the blame of the Backlund/Morales fiasco on his shoulders.

Huston still leaned towards David, a continued sore subject between him and Jim. David seemed for the moment to be content. They had started looking at some of the talent he had brought in. Though aside from One Man Gang and Kelly Kiniski, there had not been many positives. As Pat Rose and Mark Fleming had looked terrible in their tryout matches and had already been released. But he had signed a lot of guys and they would slowly be incorporated in and looked at. So he seemed happy.

As for Thunderbolt, he had came to the creative team and asked for a reduced role as soon as the merger happened. He had wanted to take a break. To go from the fulltime roster to being used as an occasional wrestler. A move that honestly Huston had no problem with. Huston had come up with what he thought was a perfect solution. With Rufus also asking for the same reduced role, it had been Huston's idea to team them together and use them to put over the Road Warriors. Well he thought it was a good plan anyway. Rufus was okay with it. But Thunderbolt had become increasingly vocal about being against it. That had led up to Friday's blowup and the change in the stipulations for the match Saturday night. The decision had been made on Friday to suspend him for 30 days and see if after he had a chance to calm down he would come to his senses. Huston had felt bad putting Rufus in the situation that he was in. But with the way things were going he went along with the loser leave town match to keep with the storyline.

But seeing how things went Saturday night, Huston saw no other alternative; He felt it was now in the best interests of the company that they just part ways.

OCC:The next show to be posted is the one ran at The Riveria Hotel. In the location file I had there were no languages indicated so I got thouroughly trashed on most of my interview segments. Anyway.

A couple of other notes:quite a few things to overcome when switching from 2005 to 2007. Flair was gold for me. Everything scored well. When I converted the files from 2005 to 2007 most everything transfered, but I really got killed on momentum with Flair and Steamboat. There's was reset to F-. Didn't notice until I was too far in to start over. Also, in 2005 Piper v Rhodes was gold. But in 2007 they don't click. Neither do Jack Brisco and Ivan Koloff as well as a few others. I'm finding it harder to score high on shows which is okay. I just need to figure out how to do it like I had to with 2005.

Just thought I'd throw those things out there, to explain some things.

Just noticed that I went over 3000 views. Thanks to all who tune in. I'm going to be honest, right now I'm torn. I'm so into playing the game that I find it hard to take the time to write everyting up. There are 16 shows between me and Fred that have been ran and need to be posted. Eventually I'll get them up. Just bear with me.

"Gordon, I told everyone that should be wearing the gold. I proved it again last week against Zbyszko. And what happens? They give him a shot at Flair tonight. How does that happen? I should get the shot at the World Title; after all I'm the National Hwt champ not Zbyszko!" C-

Andre the Giant w/Buddy Rogers v Dusty Rhodes

In a great match that lifted the crowd. The Dream turned into a nightmare as Dusty could not overcome the size advantage of the Giant and he succumbed to the butt drop and the pin at 5:58. A

As Andre went to leave the ring, it must have been too much for Roddy Piper to withstand seeing Dusty laid out in the ring. He rushes down grabs a chair and into the ring he slides. He's measuring Dusty for a chair shot, when out of no where comes Hulk Hogan who grabs the chair and prevents him from delivering the shot to Rhodes. Piper and Hogan start to go at it, and Andre reenters the ring to make it 2 on 1 on Hogan as Rhodes stumbles to his feet. In comes the Spoiler and again Rhodes and Hogan are on the short end of the stick. Finally Mr. Wonderful jumps into the ring wielding his own chair and clears it out. B- ________________________________________________________________

Gordon Solie "Wow, I don't know how we can top that."

Larry Zbyszko comes out for an interview with Gordon Solie.

GS "Good evening Larry. I suppose you heard the comments earlier from Mr. Orndorff concerning you being granted a title match tonight with Ric Flair despite the fact that he held the National Title?"

Larry "Correct me if I'm wrong Gordon, but wouldn't you be more correct if you said he formerly held the National title? Anyway, the truth be told, I had him beat last week when he went and got himself disqualified. But to set his mind at ease, we'll settle this right now. If we could get the Spoiler out here, I have a proposition for him."

GS "What do you mean Larry?"

Larry "You'll see. " The two of them are joined by the newly crowned National Hwt Champion the Spoiler(sporting his title over his shoulder.)

Larry "Congratulations are in order."

Spoiler "Thanks, Mr. Zybszko."

Larry "Have you thought about my offer?"

Spoiler "I have Larry. I suppose you want an answer now?"

Larry "If you've come to a decision, yes."

Spoiler "I've thought about it, and I just don't see how I can pass up your offer Larry."

Larry "I was hoping you would say that. Could you bring that out here?" Motioning for someone just off stage.

A stagehand came out carrying a brief case and handed it to Larry.

GS "What's going on?"

Larry "You see Gordon, The Spoiler and I have came to an agreement on a deal. This will obviously alleviate Mr. Orndorff's concern from earlier in the night. You see I will give him this briefcase with $25,000 in it and he will give me the National Hwt title." The two swap items.

GS "You can't just buy the title."

Larry "Looks like I just did Gordon. So you see Paul, now I'm not only the National Hwt Champion in a short while I will also be the World Hwt Champion when I finish off Ric Flair. "

The Spoiler "A pleasure doing business with you." As he shakes Larry's hand. The two walk off stage, The Spoiler with his briefcase and Zbyszko with his(?) title. B+

Ric Flair comes out for an interview.

RF "Gordon, what in the hell just happened out here?"

GS "I don't know Ric." Still in shock.

RF "Zbyszko, you can't win the title so you buy it? What the hell do you think this is? Let's make a deal? I tell you what. I'll make a deal with you, you bring you a** back out here and get in the ring and I'll show you how a real champion behaves. I'll give you the lesson of your life and you know what, I won't even charge you a cent for it. WHOOOOOOO!! Buying the damn belt....now I've seen everything." B+

For the NWA World Hwt Title:

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/theoutlaw321/RicFlair-1.jpghttp://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/theoutlaw321/NWAWorldHvy.jpg v http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/theoutlaw321/LarryZybszko2.jpg

Ric Flair NWA World Hwt Champ v Larry Zbyszko ??National Hwt Champ??

Flair put on a show, these guys have good chemistry. This match lifted the crowd. They go at it back and forth. Then Zbyszko catches Flair coming off the ropes in the sleeper. It looks like he is going to follow thru with his boast of winning the World title. As Flair struggles to get free he backs Zbyszko towards the corner and inadvertently into the ref knocking him down. The crowd all of sudden erupts in applause as Paul Orndorff runs down the ramp. He slides into the ring. Zbyszko releases the sleeper and starts towards Orndorff; wham forearm clothesline lays Larry out. He slides out of the ring and goes around and tries to get the ref up. Meanwhile Flair has made it to his feet and he drags Zbyszko into the middle of the ring and spins into and locks the figure four on. As the ref gets to his feet he motions for the bell to ring as Zbyszko is tapping out to the figure four at 21:50. Larry improved in technical and performance skills. B+

Headlines for Week 2 Feb 83

NWA again wins the Thursday night battle!

The NWA seems to have again come out on top in the Thursday night battle for wrestling supremacy. Their show from The Rivera Hotel in Las Vegas soldout to a crowd of 2000. Garned a 0.12 buyrate and played to excellent reviews. It featured 4 title matches and recieved an overall grade of B+ from the critics. The WWF also sold out the Akron Civic Theatre in Ohio(2000,) but only garned a 0.08 buyrate and was headlined by title defenses by WWF champ Jimmy Snuka (a C affair over Bob Backlund) and an Intercontinetal match where Morales defeated Sika(C-.) There overall reviews for the show were not as high as for the NWA one as some of the fans thought the show was a little underwelming. It recieved a C- from the critics.

________________________________________________________________

A little good news for the WWF.

As they seem to be winning Sunday nights. The ratings for WWF Championship Wrestling drew a 0.95 to the NWA's taped MACW show's 0.38.

Injury bug has bitten again and again and again!

After losing Sgt. Slaughter to injury on Monday night in a AWA show, the injury problems continued for the NWA as Abe Jacobs was lost for 2 mths and a week with a back injury at Wednsdays MACW taping. And then the third big blow came last night as Larry Zbyszko suffered a broken jaw at the hands of Paul Orndorff in the main event melee. Repots right now are that he will be slowed but will do his best to work thru the injury.

OCC:Seems everyone on this roster is ailing. After every show I get a list of time to heals. I got a whole list of occasional wrestlers and so on. So you can expect a continued emphasize on signing new and younger wrestlers(which by the way is one of the directives from MR. GAGNE himself-no one over the age of 42.)

Also, seems Mr. Patera didn't feel the need to show up at our show tonight. That's nice. Damn flake. See how he like s sitting out a coulpe more.----Fred.

Copyright infringement hearings in New York.

While Fred and the AWA were popping out shows, Huston, Jim and the legal team were all in New York attending the long awaited copyright infringement hearings.

It didn't take long to see which way this was going to go. The judge was all over Jim. He sided with the WWF's lawyers at every turn. Vince's huge ego was growing by the moment. The NWA team feared the worse. There star witnesses; Pedro Morales and Bob Backlund had backed out under pressure from Vince. So there was little hope of the verdict turning in the NWA's favor. Things didn't look good.

At the first break, Jim approached a very smug looking Vince McMahon.

JC "Okay Vince, what will it take to get this over with?"

Vince "Willing to concede so easily? I'm disappointed."

JC "Vince, you got the best of us. Without Morales and Backlund here to substantiate our version of things we don't stand much of a chance. So what do you want?"

Vince "Seems like I'm on record asking for $1,000,000."

JC "Come on Vince, what will it take to just end this now."

Vince "$1,000,000 should do it." Laughing.

JC "Vince, you're going to end up winning, but we both know you won't get $1,000,000."

Vince "Okay, enough bulls***, here's what will make this go away before lunch." Vince continued to tell Jim exactly what he wanted out of them.

JC "Okay. Let me see what Huston says and I'll speak with you before we go back in at 1:00."

Vince "Why do you need to run it by him, who owns the company you or him?"

JC "It's kind of complicated."

________________________________________________________________

Jim and Huston talked over lunch about the proposal.

Huston "We can't agree to that. You know that."

JC "We can't take the chance that he gets the whole million either."

Huston "Agreed. I'll sign off on the first part, and I'll agree to the last. But I will not go along with the second part. I told you in the beginning what the agreement was, I will not go back on my word."

JC "I don't know what he will say then, he is in sort of a position of power. He may balk, and drag it out in court."

Huston "And he'll open himself up also. We are going along with 2/3s of his proposal. This way he knows he won't have to worry about us for awhile. Tell him we'll agree to this..........."

_________________________________________________________________

Huston "What did he say?"

JC "Wasn't all that thrilled, but his lawyers were talking to him when I left. We'll probably have to wait till this evening to iron out the last details."

_________________________________________________________________

All rise the Honorable Judge Lewis presiding.

Judge "You may be seated."

Mr. Canterbury(Vince's lawyer) rises. "Your Honor, may I request a recess until tomorrow morning?"

Judge "On what grounds counselor?"

Mr. Canterbury "Your Honor, it seems some new developments have come to light and I need time to consider them before proceeding."

Judge "Does the Defense have any objections to this motion, Counselor?

Mr. Brown "No your Honor."

Judge "Very well, this court is in recess until tomorrow morning at 9:00AM."

A Dinner date with Vince.

As they left court Vince approached Jim and Huston.

Vince "Now that we have a basis to start with, let's iron this out over an early dinner and get this over with."

JC "That would be fine with us."

Huston "Where would you like to go?"

Vince "I know just the place where we can get some work done."

_________________________________________________________________

As Jim and Huston followed Vince's limo, Jim asked "So what are the odds that he takes it as we have offered?"

Huston "Very slim, he'll have to change it some just to think he is getting his way."

JC "You figured it would come down to an agreement didn't you?"

Huston "Yes, I did. Since we struck first and have gotten out to a small lead, he had to do something to try and even the race back up."

JC "Numbers in from last night?"

Huston "Yes, but they have more coverage on Sundays; live to taped; access to workers that come to us on Thursdays. I'm not overly worried about Sundays; as long as we stay ahead on Thursdays head to head we'll be fine."

JC "Are we giving up too much?"

Huston "I don't think so. We'll see. Let's get him to agree to it first. Just play along with me a little."

_________________________________________________________________

Vince "Gentlemen, order anything you like I'll pick up the tab this time."

JC "You don't have to do that Vince."

Vince "Nonsense. I'm fixing to rake you over in this deal, so dinner is the least I can do."

Huston "You thank so, Vince?"

Vince "Huston, do you understand negotiating from a position of power?"

Huston "I understand that you have a slight advantage here."

Vince "Slight? Shall we let the judge decide?"

JC "Guys, we're here to work this out."

Huston "Okay, I'll play nice if he will."

Vince "Agreed, I don't like you anymore than you like me. By the way are you American or were you born in Europe?"

Huston "What?"

Vince "Just something I have been wondering. So?"

Huston "Born and raised in North Carolina."

JC "Okay Vince, where are we?"

Vince "So let me make sure I'm clear, article 1 is agreed too, correct?"

JC "Correct."

Vince "And article 3 is agreed too?"

Huston "Correct, we'll take care of that if we come to an agreement on the whole thing."

Vince "So the second provision is the one holding us up, not surprising. I really must insist on that one I'm afraid."

Huston "No deal."

Vince "That quick? We let the Judge settle it?"

JC "Huston, let's talk it out."

Huston "We won't agree to the deal if that remains a requirement."

Vince "Jim, who's in charge you or Huston? It is your company right? Or is it?"

JC "Vince, Huston runs it. He has the final say yes or no."

Vince "Okay hard head, what's it going to take? I hate to go to court tomorrow and watch you lose all that money you've made for Jim."

Huston "Name calling? Is that where this is headed? Why don't we just skip all that and head outside?"

JC "Gentlemen!"

Vince "Alright damnit. I'll agree to drop it down to no conflicting dates."

Huston "What?"

Vince "I want Thursdays!"

Huston "For the same time frame that is in provision 3?"

Vince "Uh, yes. Yes for the same time frame."

JC "Huston?"

Huston "I still don't like it."

Vince "Agreed?"

JC "Huston?"

Huston "If that's what it takes to stay out of court tomorrow."

Vince "Deal then? I'll have my attorneys draw it up and send it over to your hotel."

After the ref hands Flair his title and he turns to exit the ring he is blindsided by a chair shot from ……..

Terry Funk! Flair hits the mat in a heap. And Funk smashes him again with the chair. At that Race hits the ring and joins in on the assault.
