Promotion Spotlight #3 - The NWA The Bio
An upside of The Fall was the re-emergence of the NWA as a true force in pro wrestling, backed by a group of legendary alumni led by Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes. Lacking the financial strength of its rivals, the NWA focused on old-school, realistic storylines and modern action to carve out a successful niche, and the promotion has become national in just a few short years. A feud between two rival groups of Horsemen, beginning in 2003, has powered the company's main event scene. In 2005, the NWA boasts a roster of homegrown superstars such as Randy Orton, Sean Morley and Mike Awesome, and established names such as Rob Van Dam and Triple H.
Horsemen vs Horsemen
If one group of Horsemen could set box office records for the original NWA, then surely two groups would do even better? In 2003, Paul Heyman made his shocking return to wrestling, revealing he was the mastermind behind the apparent alliance between Mike Awesome, Randy Orton, Chris Kanyon and Nick Dinsmore. Not only that, but the group had a name - The Extreme Horsemen! This obvious attempt to bait the NWA legends had the desired effect. For months, these new Horsemen feuded with the NWA's legends and the company's top faces until, finally, Ric Flair had enough. At the beginning of 2004, he reformed the Four Horsemen with Sean Morley, Shane Helms, Jamie Noble and.... Extreme Horseman Nick Dinsmore! Over the next year, and to this day, The Horsemen feud has continued, with no end in sight. James Storm replaced Dinsmore in The Extreme Horsemen, and some former Horsemen legends such as Tully Blanchard and Barry Windham even strapped on the boots, but only the complete destruction of one group could possibly put an end to the war.
The Talent
Of all the promotions in the Big Three, it is the NWA that is regarded as the star-maker. Even without mega-stars to put new talent over, the NWA has managed to create household names out of men like former NWA World Champions Sean Morley, Randy Orton and Mike Awesome. Just below them are the NWA's vast roster of popular young talent - Chris Harris, AJ Styles, The Truth and Nick Dinsmore. Of course, the promotion isn't shy about recruiting proven names. In 2003, Triple H made his long-awaited return to American wrestling, and became an NWA World Champion the next year. In 2004, Rob Van Dam joined the NWA after stints in PWR and The Extreme, and also held World Gold. While names such as Sting, Diamond Dallas Page and Jeff Jarrett have departed the company, the NWA is uniquely positioned for long-term success. Hopefully.
The Power Ten
1. Randy Orton - The reigning NWA World Heavyweight Champion and the leader of The Extreme Horsemen. 2. Rob Van Dam - NWA's most popular face, and the most-recent World Champ before Orton. 3. Sean Morley - Matches with Sting, Mike Awesome and Jeff Jarrett made his star back in 2002/2003, and he has remained a main-event presence in the promotion. 4. Triple H - The Game. Won a classic 'respect' match against Ric Flair in 2004. 5. The Horsemen - Whether it is 3-time NWA World Champion Mike Awesome, the tag teams (Noble/Dinsmore and Kanyon/Storm), or North American Champ Shane Helms, if you're a Horsemen, you always make the Top 5. 6. 'The Runaway Train' Matt Bernard - Formerly Albert in the WWF, a long stint in Japan proved Matt Bernard was a bonafide star. Made his NWA debut in 2005, as part of the promotion's working agreement with AJPW. 7. The Truth - Ron Killings was a talented heel in the AWF, but held back by politics. Jumped to the NWA in 2004, proclaiming that 'The Truth was set free'. 8. Camp Cornette - Kid Kash and Matt Morgan found huge success in Memphis, and caught the eye of Jim Cornette, who brought both men to the NWA as part of a new stable. 9. CM Punk - PWR's biggest star, and a cult figure amongst wrestling fans, CM Punk has just made his debut in the NWA. Immediately formed an alliance-of-sorts with RVD and Sabu. 10. The X-Division - At one stage, NWA's X-Division was the heart and soul of the company, however it has fallen by the wayside in recent years. Still, with talent such as AJ Styles, Jay Lethal and Roderick Strong, it won't stay that way for long.
World Champions
1. Promotion Spotlight #5 - Legends Of Wrestling The Bio
After The Fall, many wrestling fans longed for the nostalgia of the 'golden era'. Legendary manager Jimmy Hart noticed this gap, and with the help of some old friends, formed the Legends of Wrestling, a touring promotion. The family-friendly federation is a moderate success, with good crowds in long-time wrestling hubs like Florida, The Carolinas and the Mid-West. However, four years on, age is becoming more of a factor. Bankable old stars such as Randy Savage have been replaced with names such as Mark Henry and Buff Bagwell, and fan support has declined in the last few years. A rejuvenation strategy has led some fans to question whether this touring promotion deserves the title 'Legends' of Wrestling.
The Rejuvenation
After the retirement of LoW's franchise star 'The Macho Man' Randy Savage, Jimmy Hart and Glenn Gilberti were faced with a dillema. After initially plugging the gap left by Savage with fresher stars, such as Billy Gunn, Buff Bagwell and Rikishi (all of whom had been released by the AWF), they decided to pursue a younger audience by making stars of their own. From Memphis, they signed a young, athletic hoss named Orlando Jordan and from ESW in New York, they signed The Heartbreakers. Along with established names like Mark Henry, Brian Lawler and Mike Sanders, LoW has undergone a massive face-lift.
The Old Guard
But, they haven't forgotten what brought them to the dance. The signing of Steve Williams and KroniK (Brian Adams and Bryan Clark) brought a touch of bad-ass to the promotion, and more recently, the arrival of Road Warrior Animal and Sid Vicious has provided a spark to the main event. With stars like Jim Duggan, Lex Luger, Viscera and The Barbarian still touring, it's not all bad for LoW.
The Power Ten
1. Road Warrior Animal - Pops a crowd wherever he goes, and has helped bring much-needed attention to the promotion. 2. Sid Vicious - Just like Animal, Sid (who also works in the NWA) is a reliable draw, and relatively fresh considering his long absence from wrestling. 3. Rikishi - The LoW World Champion, and one of the promotion's top faces. 4. Buff Bagwell - A multi-time former champ, and dependable. 5. Lenny and Lodi vs The Heartbreakers - The two teams have rejuvenated LoW's tag division with their feud over who is the top team. 6. Billy Gunn - Forms a tag team with Mark Henry (billed by internet fans as 'The World's Worst Tag Team'), works hard and appeals to the younger fans. 7. Jim Duggan - Hacksaw hasn't missed a beat in the last four years, and a wild brawl with Road Warrior Animal proved he could still go. 8. Grandmaster Sexay - Works as Brian Lawler in Memphis and the NWA, but his popular Too Cool character is one of the freshest in LoW. 9. Steve Williams - Beat cancer, now beating ass in LoW. 10. The Barbarian - No real reason, I just really dig The Barbarian.
World Champions
1. Randy Savage - Nov. 2001 2.
I'm guessing this is the part where I cross my fingers and hope that Tommy had the good sense to use all of my suggestions. :D In light of the Benoit stuff over the last week, can we expect any changes to FPW's main event scene before the mod's release?
why? Dead guys like Mike Awesome are in the game...

I've actually been thinking a little about Benoit. I don't know what to do. He has a freaking Team Benoit stable, and the careers of Danielson and Albright revolve around him, not to mention he's in FPW's bio. It seems weird to try and...get back at him by taking away some of his prestige in a freaking MOD, but at the same time, I don't like the idea of glorifying a child murderer. Should I make him a free agent, and fiddle with FPW to try and remove his World Title runs, stable and... well... the fact he retired Steve Austin? Ideas?

I don't think anything should be done with Chris Benoit, he did die and it was sick and twisted the way he went but he was still one of the greatest wrestlers in the world. Nothing should be done with After The fall unless it's being based in 2007...
Should I make him a free agent, and fiddle with FPW to try and remove his World Title runs, stable and... well... the fact he retired Steve Austin? Ideas?
Wacky idea, maybe, but there might be a person or two you could use to replace Benoit. Maybe you could put Lance Storm in the "veteran technician with his own stable" role? He was destined for big things before WCW's closure, after all. But if you do that, "Team Storm" would probably have more Canadian influence... which could force you to turn Albright and Danielson into Generic Hot Young Tag Team and bring in some guys like Petey Williams and Eric Young to be Storm's lackeys.
