The Official ROH Discussion Thread

Wrestling Century

The Observer website said that not all Sinclair stations are expected to show ROH, and posted a list of the stations that are expected to. Sure enough, my station was not on it. :( Oh well, guess it's online viewing for me.

Its sad the TV show won't initially reach all of the markets Sinclair Broadcast Group reaches, but the list seemed like a good starting point, and will hopefully grow in the future. And for now everyone with Internet access will seemingly still get the product (which means streaming to the TV for me).

My excitement for this deal stems from the fact that ROH are making a real attempt to grow, and provide an alternative to the "Big 2".

How will it turn out? No-one knows, but I would prefer them to atleast try this rather than just stick with their current business model, which like The Final Countdown said isn't working anymore.

Do you have a link to the list? I can't seem to find it

ROH seems to come to Cleveland semi regularly, I just never have the money to go. I'm not their biggest fan(mainly due to lack of real exposure), but I do like a lot of the people on the roster and would love to actually be able to watch them.

I'm going to buy two ROH DVDs for a friend who has never watched before. He's in his mid twenties and has only watched WWE in his life, no TNA. He's also an MMA fan, just to give you background on his watching preferences.

Which two DVDs would you suggest? A loaded question that I'm sure will give a lot of different answers, but I'd be appreciative of some help. Thanks in advance.

Looking at what they actually have in stock I would go with Glory By Honor VIII & IX. 8 has Nigel's and Danielson's last match and a ladder war so he should like it. 9 is a great show that represents current ROH very well.

I am a relatively new ROH fan, so this is just based on what I have seen:

Final Battle 2010 was a nice mix of different styles, with some great matches. And Glory by Honor VIII would be a good choice. Ladder War II, Daneilson vs McGuinness in their last ROH match and lots of other good matches.

I'd second this one. I've yet to see Final Battle 2010, but Glory By Honor VIII is one of my favorite ROH shows ever.

There's a lot of good ones though.

Is last year's Death Before Dishonor still in stock? That was a really good one. Final Battle 2010 was really good also, but I'm not sure how someone would react to the brutality of the Steen/Generico match without having been invested in the feud for the year that led up to that final match.

Also, I believe they've started adding bonus discs to a lot of their recent releases, so it might be worth looking into those. For instance, one of the shows came with a second disc that contained all three matches in the fabled Joe vs. Punk trilogy.

Any idea which disc included the Punk matches? As a WWE guy he knows Punk so I'd assume he'd enjoy watching that stuff.

I was leaning towards Glory by Honor IX being one of the choices and that seems to be confirmed here. Thanks for the help guys.

Allied Forces. I have no idea how good the actual show was, but the Joe/Punk trilogy is top-notch stuff. It might not be the right fit for someone who has only been exposed to WWE though, considering two of the three matches were 60 minute draws.

I didn't enjoy GBHIX all that much personally. I mean, it was good, but I'd rate it below most of their other iPPVs (the 9th Anniversary being a possible exception.)

<p>Final Battle 2010 was pretty awesome but I feel liek you had to watch ROH all year to get the impact of most of those matches. </p><p> </p><p>

I love how they wrote the storylines for those fueds man. Very basic stuff but it was all beautifully told in the ring at that PPV. It was a great show I'm glad I got to watch ROH alot that year.</p><p> </p><p>

I'm very pumped they got a new TV deal. Love those guys man. </p><p> </p><p>

I'm from philly so seeing the passionate philly crowd at the old ECW arena turn out for ROH is a sight to be seen for any hardcore wrestling fan.</p>

<p>random thought:</p><p> </p><p>

With ROH now owned by Sinclair and likely getting pretty widespread distribution soon, it has been rumored that they will bring in a few former WWE talents to boost the name value. Makes sense. Someone like MVP is availible, can work, and would fit in. </p><p> </p><p>

But what if ROH made a bit of splash and gets CM Punk back if he chooses not to resign with WWE? I dont know why no one has seemingly mentioned this yet, but I would love to see it happen.</p>

<p>With the way TNA is going right now it wouldn't surprise me if this buyout and TV deal made ROH a real player to see Daniels, Joe, and/or The Machine Guns all jump back full time to ROH along with Punk once his WWE contract was up.</p><p> </p><p>

Here's a question: Were ROH to actually hit it big with this deal who from TNA or WWE that has NEVER been in ROH would you like to see make the jump? Personally I think Gunner, Bobby Roode, and Eric Young would all fit in nicely.</p>

<p>From WWE:</p><p>

John Cena (IMAGINE THAT ANGLE!), David Hart Smith & Tyson Kidd (Kidd appeared once though I believe), Jack Swagger, Joe Hennig</p><p> </p><p>

From TNA:</p><p>

Elijah Burke, Kurt Angle, RVD.</p><p> </p><p>

I think, face facts or not, ROH does need to become a BIT more mainstream to draw viewers when some show does come about. So people like Angle/RVD/Swagger who are good at the entertainment side and wrestling side are perfect fits. And someone like Cena jumping would just be epic.</p><p> </p><p>

I do think the most likely of anything is MVP showing up obviously as I said before. CM Punk seems the second most likely for bigger names that may be on the market soon.</p>

But then its more about what happens when he comes in, does he:</p><p> </p><p> a) Become a major player and challenge for the ROH title, which would probably annoy ROH fans, and provide a main event that many existing fans wont want to see. But this would gain the interest of casual fans.</p><p> </p><p> b) Have him be a midcard player, which would appease current ROH fans, but the casuals will be thinking "Why is MVP losing to these no-names and not getting a title shot?"</p><p> </p><p> It will be very difficult to pull off.</p><p> </p><p> On the question of current WWE/TNA guys I want to see make the leap to ROH (excluding past ROH stars):</p><p> </p><p> WWE: Tyson Kidd, David Hart Smith, Jimmy Uso, Jey Uso, Michael McGillicutty.</p><p> </p><p> Not just because of their heritage <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />. Kidd/Smith & the Uso's would add a bit off depth to the tag division. McGillicutty would get a chance to shine in the middle order of ROH.</p><p> </p><p> TNA: Kaz (Don't think he has been in ROH).</p><p> </p><p> There are lots of ex-ROH guys in TNA that I would like them to take back. I was tempted to say Angle, but his health worries me and I would prefer him to hang up his boots before he gets seriously injured.</p>

<p>The more MVP works for NJPW, the more I think ROH fans will accept him if he was to join them. Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas have been welcomed with open arms, and while MVP doesn't have the same reputation as a great worker, he's not that far off. </p><p> </p><p>

I hope they don't become another TNA, trying to grab big expensive 'stars' all the time. I'd rather they concentrate on putting together a solid, compelling wrestling show, and rewarding the wrestlers who having worked so hard for them over the years. From what I hear, that's the goal. They figure all of their guys are going to be fresh for their new audience, so see little point in changing anything yet. The whole point of TV is to have a platform with which to make stars, not to force you to bring in existing familiar faces.</p>
