From the Notebook of Ole Anderson

Reasons why we should do it:

1. Georgia - Never forget
2. Rick Rude - Stole our tag champ and didn't get him to do the right thing on his way out.
3. Nikita Koloff - As above for US champ
4. Stole Ricky & Bobby & Mulkeys - before Crockett Cup. Had to rewrite tournament at last minute.
5. Convinced Baba to take Road Warriors on a written
6. Stole stars from AWA and forced them to replace with Garvin, Arn & Tully.
7. Poached Steve Borden from UWF when he was set to come here.
8. Negotiations with TBS forced us off air
9. Attempted to poach Dusty before Starrcade
10. Steiners - bridge too far. Broken promise
11. St Louis. Not in our backyard Vince, no way.

How are we going to do it:

Get Dusty to call him back offer services and friends. Done - Dusty, Terry & Barry will go to Philly.
Get Orton to ask for his job back - keep our signing secret. Done - arrogant piece of garbage didn't see it coming
Ask Flair - not keen to be involved Talked him into it.
Sign Adonis? Not interested.
I can't go. He'll never believe it.
Get Jim onside. Done. The territories are dead - only thing left is revenge.

Out of Character Note

If you've not gathered already... this is a spin-off from TFC's masterful The Golden Age... and Beyond? diary. This diary will run in tandem with the regular TGAAB and will look at things from the other side of the coin in what is now a 2 player game.

My layout will be very familiar to fans of TFC's diary - it was and is my inspiration and we're both quite pumped to see where we are going to take this! We've put a few restrictions on ourselves which we're not going to go into just now - safe to say that the War is on...

I took over JCP in March (Since Ole Anderson was made booker in fact) and have been running the shows behind the scenes to get my roster in order and await our grand unveiling while ironing out any teething problems we might have had splitting a diary between the US and Australia... We're now good to go and I have a lot of plans in store and look forward to launching them in my first show...

One point of note, as World Championship Wrestling is scheduled to debut this year, we've agreed to change the name of my TV show to 'Friday Night Showdown' - the very first episode debuts later this week so stay tuned...

See, the reason we were there – why this collection of the cream of NWA talent were in Philadelphia was that we was invited… the serpent opened his forked tongue and held out that endless wallet to bring us in and talk about leaving y’all behind. He called me up last November and he promised me the heaven, earth moon and stars baby. He told me ‘Dusty… Dusty I want the Dream in the Dubya Dubya Eff. He said ‘Dusty, I want you to come in this November and be the surprise in the Red and Yellow team – I want you to be the big surprise and I’ll put you in that main event with the champ. And it sounded goood… I mean, I can take Ric Flair to the ends of his abilities and as good as he might be, Ted DiBiase ain’t no Nature Boy so I knew I’d be the WWF champ in a matter of weeks… but then I thought about it a bit more. I looked at Bob Orton, I looked at Don Muraco, I looked at Ricky Steamboat and watched them be denied chances that they’d earned through years of hard work… and I knew that Vince was nothing but a liar. I figured you’re better with the devil you know so I spoke to Ole, a man who I’d never seen eye to eye with and he had a good idea…" Anderson: "That’s right. It was MY idea Vince! When Dusty came back to you in November and told you that he could get Flair and a couple of the other boys to come in at the biggest show of the year, I knew we could make a statement – we could take some of your audience and I know they’re watching tonight. They want to see what happens next, they’re desperate to find out ‘what we’re gonna do’ now that the NWA is running wild… huhhuh… son, you invited the lions into the cave… and when they broke out and threw your programme off balance your audience left at the same time. That’s right Vince, you can’t arrest guests. You invited those boys in to the back and they did what they were always going to do: put themselves and their home company OVER! "You wanted a war Vince and now you’ve got one. We’re a united front and there’s nothing you can do to stop us now that we’ve got the attention of the entire wrestling world… isn’t that right Bob?!" Orton: "Vince McMahon… last year, just a few weeks before Wrestlemania I came to you and I begged you not to do it. You’d decided or at least your hired chimp that two bit announcer James Hill who you brought in to be your hatchet man decided that my brother, my flesh and blood and a kid I’d watch grow up couldn’t cut it in the big leagues. I pleaded with you to give him a chance. Let me take him under my wing and give him the chance to be the fine wrestler that I know he can be… but you wouldn’t listen. You jumped at the chance to get rid of Barry and it was as if he never even existed. I watched him pushed out the door at the same time as you chased out Blackjack Lanza… but me and Jack we stayed in touch and when he told me that the NWA was planning something big… I had to be a part. I had to come here and see for myself so I just kept biding my time putting up with all the crap you hurled at me until the moment was right. "I didn’t win many matches over the past year but I had stopped trying. What was the point in me busting my butt every night to get nothing back? I just gave up… the NWA gave me hope… and when Jack got in touch and told me what the plans were? I had to be a part. I read in the dirtsheets something about how Hill had ‘regretted letting me go’ so I picked up the phone and I gave them the opportunity to resign me – I’d come along to Wrestlemania, see some of the boys backstage and maybe sign on the dotted line… except I’d already signed on to Jim Crockett Promotions a month earlier! I played you James Hill and Vince McMahon! I played you the way you played me for the last year and I’m gonna enjoy being the one who buries you in the unmarked grave you left the territories in." Flair: "I gotta be honest with you all… when Ole told me about his idea I thought he was out of his mind…. It didn’t seem to make sense to me… you all know that the Nature Boy looks out for number one first and foremost… I didn’t want to burn any bridges, it doesn’t do for the wheeler dealer, jet flying, limousine riding, kiss stealing sun of a gun to be jeopardising his stock… but then Ole reminded me of that this was to happen at Wrestlemania Four… FOUR… it’s a special number in my heart… and, well, there’s just something fitting about that being the origin, the start for the rebirth of another four…" Flair stops talking, turns the palm of his hand to face his chest, pressing the thumb into the palm. He slowly raises the hand until it is level with his face, the four fingers at an angle and clear for the entire arena to see… Slowly Ole does the same… Dusty and Orton look confused, behind them Barry Windham and Terry Taylor raise their fingers too… with a growing comprehension and the realisation that this has come just slightly too late Dusty adopts a fighting stance. Orton looks around wildly as if searching for escape before focusing on Windham and Taylor… Dusty stands back to back with Orton and calls Flair and Anderson on towards him… Orton takes a step forward towards Terry Taylor… before swinging around and catching Dusty with a massive lariat from behind! The American Dream hits the canvas as the five men in the ring swoop on him. The beating is as intense as it is savage. Referees and officials come from the back to break things up and we go to commercial break with Bob Caudle and Tony Schiavone in near hysterics talking about what this could mean! Wow, a new Horsemen of those four? When I first read through it, Orton is the only one I'm not too sure about, but it's growing on me somewhat. Sounds like Bockwinkel will be busy mentoring all these people - can't wait for what sounds like an inevitable Flair vs Bock battle of legends! I'm digging the teams in the Crockett Cup, and I'm actually very excited to see you with teams like the Freebirds and Von Erichs on hand, and just seeing who is on the team I think I really want to see you push the Memphis Mafia!

Not sure about Terry Taylor. He was always a little too pretty boy, but he's a good wrestler so it will be nice to see as you book him.

I always thought Big John Studd would have made a good horsemen personally.

Honestly, I think Taylor will make a fine Horseman for you. He was a very, very good athlete, with a great look for a company like JCP. Had the Rooster not happened, I think Taylor would have held far more titles in his career - midcard titles or lower company world titles sure, but its proof of how one bad gimmick can destroy a person's livelihood if it is horrible enough. Until the day you would ever be able to steal back Tully, Terry will fill his role in the group just fine.

On one of those roundtables that WWE does, they mentioned that it was between Terry and Curt Hennig to play Mr. Perfect. I doubt Terry would have nailed the character to the degree that Curt did, but it sure would have been much better for his career than the freaking Rooster!

I grew up watching WCW, so I didn't even see the Red Rooster, but I've always liked him. Great show!

A great first show. This new group looks very good, and yes, what killed Taylor's career was really the gimmick of The Red Rooster. Man, when your biggest moment is a victory over Bobby Heenan, you know that it really sucks. From what i've read, Taylor was a candidate to becoming Mr. Perfect, but it was Hennig who became Perfect, obviously.

Got a reader in me. I'm still torn between which side I should pick. Its going to be odd seeing a Horsemen group with The Enforcer or Blanchard. Hopefully you can get them back. I think I've mentioned them to TFC but the Harris boys as The Bruise Brothers would be a good fit for any tag division. I was/still am a fan of their old look and don't know why.

With his technical expertise, Orton’s brawling skills and both men’s penchant for bending the rules, it was the Horsemen who were to send their first representatives into the Crockett Cup Finals when Bob Orton impressively smashed Big Bubba Rogers with a devastating Superplex while Garvin looked on helplessly from the apron.
