<p>Dusty v Orton being MOTN didn't shock me; the Cowboy made it a habit to surpass my expectations when he worked for me. I am a little surprised that Flair/Bock only rated a B- though, especially with the title on the line. Maybe Nick's age is catching up with him?</p><p> </p><p>

There was one other name you've signed that has not debuted yet, but I figured Bam Bam made a lot more sense as the mystery opponent for Sullivan. Related note: I had my eye on Bam Bam, and probably would have signed him within 6-12 months. Damn Ole. <img alt=":o" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/redface.png.900245280682ef18c5d82399a93c5827.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

I'll be interested to see whether you sign someone to replace Caudle, or if you go with the team you've got. There's a certain someone available that would make a lot of sense if you're so inclined. <img alt=";)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/wink.png.686f06e511ee1fbf6bdc7d82f6831e53.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

See, I’ve been around for a good few years now and all this talk of Eddie Graham’s got me thinking about my start in Florida – I was a big deal down there – I made my own way and my own name through my hard work and you know what always really bugged me? People like Mike Graham who only got to where he was because of who his daddy was. Honky repeated the shot three times as Keirn writhed in agony. Wahoo McDaniel is the clear crowd favourite, many of whom remember Wahoo’s run in the area. Dick Murdoch is no stranger to the fans in Florida either... although he gets a less fond reaction! And it is these two who dominate the match – their wild brawling style negating each others efforts and leaving Cocoa Samoa (more famous in the Pacific North West) and Chavo Guerrero to take a more aerial offence to each other. Wahoo and Murdoch were a powder keg just waiting to explode so when they spilled out of the ring and brawled around the outside it seemed the perfect opportunity for Cocoa Samoa to take advantage... reaching low to pick Chavo up by the hair, the underdog hooked his leg behind Samoa’s and rolled the savage up for a cradle pin and the unlikeliest of victories!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Chavo Guerrero by pinfall in 12:44</strong></p><p> <strong>Grade: C-</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="36731" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/LouAlbano.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/Precious.jpg</span><p> </p><p> Captain Lou Albano is standing by with Precious:</p><p> </p><p> Albano: ‘Ha Ha! All week the Captain’s phone’s been ringin’ people phoning me up asking me what I’m doing getting involved in wrestling again – what I’m doing get involved with Lex Luger and in the face of Mr. T… well it’s like this. A few weeks ago I heard that Mr. T. had shown his face up around here… the man is a disgrace to the sport that I spent my life trying to protect. I was involved in a big event with him in New York once… he had nothing but contempt for wrestling and the people involved and I never forgot that… so when I saw him getting in Lex Luger’s business, I thought that kid could do with some of my guidance, so I extended the hand of friendship and stepped back inside that squared circle just One. In Gordy’s corner stands Michael Hayes who remains wary of the Captain’s presence. Gordy is a man possessed, beating down the usually impressively strong Luger but not giving him an inch! The match continues in the same vein with Gordy taking the initiative and the match to his opponent but Luger’s made of stronger stuff than that and after Gordy attempts to lock Luger in a full nelson, the tide of the match is turned quicker than Luger can break the hold! The two trade blows back and forward but the wave of momentum is on Luger’s side… when Hayes invades the ring – the muscleman picks him up high above his head and hurls him at his tag team partner! He might not have had the chance to lock Gordy in the Torture Rack but a win’s a win and the DQ victory is enough for Lex Luger to have his hand raised.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Lex Luger by Disqualificaton in 12:33</strong></p><p> <strong>Grade: C+</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> The Fabulous Freebirds regroup and look to attack…</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/KerryvonErich.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/KevinVonErich.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/DustyRhodes.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> But they’re stopped by the Von Erichs and… Dusty Rhodes?!</p><p> </p><p> The Von Erichs chase off the Freebirds who despite their bravado have been clearly weakened by the battle with Lex Luger and aren’t interested in a follow-up!</p><p> </p><p> Dusty Rhodes has stopped to pick up a microphone and we can see now that he’s holding a title belt?</p><p> </p><p> Rhodes: “Hello Florida… it’s good to be home! Clearly reluctant to take on Garvin in a test of power, Honky resorted to stalling tactics and interruptions from the outside, looking to frustrate Garvin at each turn. Ron though remained remarkably cool in the face of adversity and gave as good as he got from Honky who began to become more and more exasperated himself, to the surprise of no-one though the fate of the match was sealed with some outside interference, Eddie Gilbert tripping Garvin on his way to delivering a Garvin Stomp that would surely have ended the match. Garvin began arguing with the pair only to be caught by a schoolboy from Honky Tonk and beaten by pinfall, with a handful of tights for good measure.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: The Honky Tonk Man by pinfall in 13:23</strong></p><p><strong> Grade: C</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> The furious Ron Garvin is up but he’s more interested in Eddie Gilbert ! He makes a beeline for Hotstuff and the two (along with Austin Idol) scrap their way into the back. Meanwhile, The Honky Tonk Man is holding the back of his head with a pained expression on his face – he hardly looks like a winner but he’s still happy to bask in the disdain of the audience… he can’t rest on his laurels for too long though because from out of the back comes…</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/StanLane.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>STAN LANE!</strong> One half of the Fabulous Ones, Sweet Stan Lane rushes the ring and before The Honky Tonk Man knows what’s going on he’s back down on the canvas with Lane raining blows on him! The three continue brawling while the Honky Tonk Man slides back outside… he picks up a steel chair and returns to the ring. Gilbert and Idol have the upper hand now and are holding Lane down. We’re treated to a replay of last week’s contract signing between Dusty Rhodes and Bob Orton Jr. ending with Dusty’s head being split open.

Grade: B

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/DustyRhodes.jpg

The American Dream, sporting a large band-aid on his forehead has a microphone in hand and a message for the Cowboy:

Rhodes: “Bobby Orton Jr baby, last week… last week you took it ‘pon yourself to lay hands on the American Dream Dusty Rhodes… you sealed our match with my blood daddy… and you probably think you gave yourself one hell of an advantage for our steel cell match tomorrow night in Tampa, Florida… but thing is Bobby… Dusty Rhodes has been kicked around more times than this great nation and just like America herself, I stand up each and every time and come out swinging… I ain’t nothin’ special, Ah’m just the Common Man but if you back the common man into a corner you better be ready for what you got comin’ and tomorrow night Bob Orton – Ah’m coming for you.

“Tonight my boy Mike Graham and I will be joining forces again and takin’ on you and your no good buddy Barry Windham – we’ll beat you tonight just like we’re gonna do to you tomorrow.”

A graphic on screen reminds us of how to buy The Eddie Graham Memorial Show before announcing that the undefeated Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger is taking on Cocoa Samoa from the Pacific Northwest area of the NWA!

The New Breed vs Stan Hansen & 'Dr. Death' Steve Williams

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/ChrisChampion.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/SeanRoyal.jpg vs. http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/StanHansen.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/SteveWilliams.jpg

After their announcement as the number one contenders to the NWA World Tag Team Titles, this has been a number of the American audience’s first opportunity to see this hard hitting tag team in action. Those who had written off their chances before seeing them in the flesh must have been made to think again as Hansen & Williams utterly dominated the former tag team champions with a sadistic brutality that made the audience wince. The deal was sealed by Dr Death’s vicious Backdrop Driver on Sean Royal as the visitors picked up the win.

Winner: Stan Hansen & 'Dr. Death' Steve Williams by pinfall in 8.28

Grade: C

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/RicFlair.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/Tara.jpg

Ric Flair is in the interview area with Tara:

Flair: “Wooooooooooooooooooo! One more day Tampa! You’ve got one more sleep until Space Mountain turns up in your town, lock up your daughters and chain up your wives because the Nature Boy is back in town! Wooooooooooooooooo!!!! Tara baby, I'll make sure' you're at the front of the queue....

“But it’s not all fun and games this weekend – I’ll be in town defending against a young guy I know very well – a young guy who I thought could be the heir to the Nature Boy’s kingdom… but I was wrong… Lex Luger didn’t have ‘it’ and tomorrow night I’m going to take him to school and show him in the worst way how far from greatness he truly is and…”

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/LexLuger.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/LouAlbano.jpg

Flair’s rant is cut short by the sudden appearance of Lex Luger and Captain Lou Albano

Luger: “I don’t care what you have to say to me anymore Ric. You can run me and anyone else you want down but you and I both know that you’d be nothing without your thugs behind you doing your dirty work for you… I’m younger than you, I’m fitter than you, I’m stronger than you and tomorrow night I’ll prove that I’m better than you.”

Albano: “You see Ric Flair, the Lex Luger you knew – the little boy lost in the fog looking for someone to show him the way is gone. He’s grown-up into the greatest prospect that the Captain has ever saw in all his years in this business. I’ve managed champions and I’ve managed challengers… tomorrow night Lex Luger is coming into this one as your challenger but he’s leaving as the Champion – mark my words!”

Grade: B-

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/ChavoGuerrero.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/DavidCrockett.jpg

David Crockett is standing by with Chavo Guerrero:

Guerrero: “Nobody gave me a chance two weeks ago Ivan Koloff – nobody thought that Chavo Guerrero would be your number one contender to that title belt of yours and yet here I am! The unlikeliest champion in UWF history… the man they all want to bring down and tomorrow night I will defy the odds one more time and take back that US title from you. I don’t care what you call it or what you think of me but I do care that you’re disgracing the memory of so many men who wore that belt before you – I will win it with pride and defend it with honour!”

NWA World Television Championship

Kendall Windham vs. Terry Taylor © (w/ Ole Anderson)

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/KendallWindham.jpg vs. http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/TerryTaylor.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/OleAnderson.jpg

The brother of Horseman Barry Windham, Kendall is not as well known in these parts but it doesn’t stop him from going after the TV champion as if his life depends on it. We already know that the TV title will not be defended on the Eddie Graham Memorial Show, Nick Bockwinkel focused instead on his upcoming World Heavyweight Championship bid at the Great American Bash – Taylor looks uncharacteristically nervy throughout this match, the announcers commenting that this is most likely down to Taylor having one eye on his match tomorrow night. Kendall came close to a shock win with a fisherman’s suplex that Taylor only managed to break out of in the nick of time. This seemed to wake Taylor from his walking slumber and he responded in the best manner possible with a huge Five Arm smash to send Windham down to the canvas for the pinfall.

Winner: Terry Taylor by pinfall in 11:25

Grade: C

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/WahooMcDaniel.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/Precious.jpg

Wahoo McDaniel is with Precious:

McDaniel:Dick Murdoch, if it wasn’t bad enough that you cost me my shot at regaining the US Title, you then came out here running your mouth about how I’m this or I’m that – listen up Mr. Big Shot – you want to talk to me then how bout you meet me in the ring tomorrow night and we can ‘discuss’ it further?”

Ron Garvin vs Eddie Gilbert (w/ The Honky Tonk Man & Austin Idol)

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/RonGarvin.jpg vs. http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/EddieGilbert.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/HonkyTonkMan.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/AustinIdol.jpg

In a follow-on from last week’s match with the Honky Tonk Man, Ron Garvin has got his Hands of Stone on the man who he believes cost him that match in the form of Eddie Gilbert. Garvin is completely non-plussed by the presence of both Austin Idol and the Honky Tonk Man at ringside, treating it like just another match. And perhaps it was this composure that helped Garvin have his hand raised as Gilbert found himself out of his depth against Rugged Ronnie succumbing to a Knockout Punch that left the junior member of the mafia out cold!

Winners: Ron Garvin by Pinfall in 11:29

Grade: C+

Garvin leaves the ring without a second glance at the Mafia who are irate at what they’re claiming to be an illegal punch.

Captain Lou Albano is out and making his way to the ring, presumably to make some kind of announcement…

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/RonSimmons.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/LarryCameron.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/MrT.jpg

…only to be cut off by The Enemy! The three men swarm over Albano, knocking him to the ground – but here comes Ron Garvin – he catches Larry Cameron with a blow that sends him to the floor but Ron Simmons follows up and beats Garvin back while Mr. T kicks into Lou Albano! The crowd are looking for Lex Luger but the announce team are explaining that he’s gone back to his hotel to prepare for his World Title match tomorrow night… Mr. T continues to beat on Albano, Simmons is dominating Garvin and the crowd are far from happy about it when a loud roar suddenly builds from the people closest to the backstage area, the wave spreads throughout the arena as Mr. T. turns to find himself face to face with…

THE JUNKYARD DOG!!!

JYD grabs Mr. T. and hurls him towards Simmons and Cameron who has slowly picked himself up. Garvin is back on his feet too and he’s standing side by side with JYD! The two are jawing at The Enemy who sullenly back off.

JYD’s back in the NWA! But he’s not the only familiar face to appear on Friday Night Showdown this month, stars of Continental Wrestling Jerry ‘The King of Memphis’ Lawler and Tommy Rich showed up in the nick of time to help out Sweet Stan Lane and all three are in the back:

Lane: I’d just like to publically thank once again Tommy Rich and Jerry Lawler here for having my back last week – the Memphis Mafia have been in mine and Steve’s faces for months now and with Steve injured, I thought I was on my own… it’s good to know that these boys have got my back!

Lawler: “There’s no way we’d be leaving you on your own against those three Stan. You see, I know all of those boys well… very well… and when I heard they were claiming to be the big shots in Memphis well I thought I’d have to come along here and have something to say about that because I am the King of Memphis Wrestling and royalty never bows down in the face of adversity. Me and Tommy wanted to come and pay our respects to Eddie Graham and figured we’d show the Memphis Mafia who was really boss!”

Rich: “That’s right Jerry – when I heard the NWA were running their Eddie Graham show again this year, I asked if I could be included and I was still waiting for a match-up when Jerry gave me a call with the idea of coming along and teaching Eddie Gilbert and Austin Idol a lesson they’ll never forget… so that’s why you three clowns are in big trouble tomorrow – we’ve got the nod and it’ll be you three against us. We’ll see who the real Memphis heavyweights are!”

We’re given a breaking news update: Ron Garvin & Junkyard Dog have agreed to team-up to face The Enemy: Ron Simmons & Larry Cameron, tomorrow night!

Dusty Rhodes & Mike Graham vs Barry Windham & Bob Orton Jr.

http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/DustyRhodes.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/MikeGraham.jpg vs. http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/BarryWindham.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/BobOrtonJr.jpghttp://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/OleAnderson.jpg

With the card for tomorrow night settled, the crowd were free to enjoy a classic tag team encounter that was heightened by the excellent chemistry between Rhodes & Graham. Mike Graham’s sudden push back towards the top of the card was a surprise to many but Graham did his utmost to show that he belonged there in a scintillating match that hinted at the quality still to come the following night. Graham’s quality was there for all to see and Barry Windham handled the crowd with the skill and confidence you would expect… but the people came to see Orton & Rhodes – each time they were in the ring you could feel the electricity levels rise. The two have been feuding for over two months but every time they clashed, the heat seemed to rise higher and higher – tonight’s match was no different – Orton (and Windham) both made a beeline for Rhodes’ plastered head – looking to deepen the cut it was protecting, and presumably make Bob Orton’s job the following night a little easier… but it was not to be… instead the two Horsemen picked up a key victory with a superplex from Orton on the winded Graham moving into the big show.

Winner: Bob Orton Jr. by pinfall in 19:11

Liger is a future star if booked properly. Cocoa Samoa? Not so much

I'm a big Liger mark it's true - he's pretty hard to book for at this point because I don't have a roster that really fits his style but I'm looking to try and update that a little - I figured Cocoa might give him a different type of match than he's had so far!

P.S. You forgot to tip for Koloff vs Chavo so unless you advise otherwise I'll put you down for a successful title defence...

I believe Koloff will hold the title here as the longer he has it the more it means when some babyface finally beats him and rename the title again.

It's funny - I'm really enjoying writing the Koloff angle but the game seems to hate it... which is why it's been relegated to something of a minor thing here maybe I'll just need to cut my losses and think of something else...

I honestly have no clue who Lou's team is.

I realise it's the way I've written up the preview but I didn't intend for it to come across as a debuting team, just another pair of random faces thrown together! If anyone wants to change their votes based on the unveiling of JYD & Garvin then obviously be my guest!

Flair has his hands still full with Bockwinkel, just as Luger with Simmons. I do like the change of pace though.

It's almost good to know I'm not the only one who doesn't know what to do with Rogers. I am a straight mark for Ray Traylor, but I can never find a good place for him in my upper card scene. Never matters what year I'm playing.

It seemed a very NWA type of thing to do - to suddenly pull a left hand turn from a hot feud, do something else completely before looking to go back to the big feud again. That kind of booking would never fly now and it's strange and somewhat alien trying to write that way!

In terms of Rogers, I'm the exact same - I love Ray Traylor - great movement and such an athletic wrestler for a big man, his run from early 1990 through to mid 91 was exceptional - I realise now that given he was wrestling Curt Hennig and Ted DiBiase for the majority of that time it probably helped... but still!

--

Massive thanks to everyone who's predicted so far and an extra special thanks to Smasher for the DOTM nomination - I still don't think I'm anywhere near that standard yet, personally, but I really appreciate the faith shown in me.

I love writing this diary and the feedback and pointers I get make it seem so worthwhile!

All going well the Eddie Graham Memorial show should be up in the next 24-48 hours...

Not one for the technical purist, this disjointed match was little more than a slugging contest in the centre of the ring… and as the referee was admonishing Wahoo for not keeping his fists open, Murdoch took advantage by slipping on a pair of brass knuckles… the next blow made Wahoo drop like a stone. Not the worker he once was, JYD was still very over with the crowd and his regular interactions with the always animated Mr T. at ringside were the definite highlight. In the opposite corner, Albano gave as good as he got and it would be fair to say that but for the actions of our two managers, this would’ve been a fairly poor effort. Garvin seemed to be unmotivated and the crowd’s reactions to Larry Cameron are overwhelmingly negative despite his best efforts. Bockwinkel for his part looks cool, calm and collected… the pair lock up and this battle is on! Taylor knows that if he’s to win this one, he’ll have to wear Bockwinkel down and do it quickly – the longer the match goes, the more it falls into the veteran’s game plan. Taylor’s relative lack of experience, compared to Bockwinkel anyway, is clear for all to see as he tries to hit Bock with a Five Arm smash from nowhere, Bockwinkel (running back from the ropes) catches the arm and spins behind Taylor turning it into a standing chicken wing! Bockwinkel though doesn’t put his back into it and if anything he seems to be toying with the TV champion! An attempt at a DDT from the youngster is turned into a back bodydrop in a similar fashion and the crowd are firmly behind the humbling of the upstart who is struggling and struggling badly! Bockwinkel is enjoying the schooling though and although Taylor is still able to get some big hits in, the veteran never looks to be in trouble. Moving towards the finish, Bockwinkel sets Taylor up for the piledriver… and bang! The crowd remember his antics here and as a result are firmly behind the Beast from the East in what proves to be yet another wild brawl as these two look like they just really want to hurt each other!</p><p> </p><p> Sullivan obviously has had more time to prepare for the challenge this time and it shows, Bigelow’s power advantage is negated by Sullivan’s clever use of the ring, always making Bigelow move to get to him and generally looking to tire the big man out… of course Bigelow has high stamina reserves which Sullivan learns for himself when, after ten minutes of brawling, he heads to the outside and runs around the ring to escape the big man… Bigelow doesn’t drop a beat and when he rolls back inside is ready to go again. Sullivan though appears convinced that tiring him out is the way to go and it’s no surprise to find him going back to the outside again… but this time, not only is Bigelow able to keep up… he’s faster! Bigelow catches Sullivan on the run and the momentum drags the two down to the ringside floor. The pair exchange vicious kicks and punches, rolling around the outside of the ring – Sullivan locks a choke hold on as the referee continues his count…. And reaches 10! Kevin opens the bout against Stan Hansen and both men have a deep look of concentration in their eyes as they look to hook up… but Hansen pulls away before teasing the hook up again… only to do the same thing again! Kevin is perplexed but the crowd are getting openly hostile to Hansen’s reluctance. The pair go for the lock-up again and once more Hansen pulls back… but Kevin’s had enough, he plants his right foot and lunges at Hansen… but he sidesteps and drives his cowboy booted foot on Kevin’s bare foot! The crowd wince as Kevin lets out an involuntary howl of pain and the announce team speculate that with one move, Stan Hansen appears to have broken at least one of Kevin Von Erich’s toes! Hansen breaks into a huge beaming grin, shouts over to Kerry that he hopes he’s watching closely before laying a huge haymaker on Kevin that drops him to the canvas. </p><p> </p><p> What follows is a match of intense brutality… Hansen and Williams mercilessly beat down on Kevin Von Erich who can no longer walk the 12 short feet to where his brother is desperately hanging over the ropes looking for a tag. </p><p> </p><p> Despite the domination though, the challengers can’t seem to put Kevin away – he always seems to have just enough juice left to kick out and when Hansen lifts an almost lifeless Von Erich into an electric chair drop it backfires spectacularly! Kevin springs back into life, unloading heavy shots into Stan Hansen’s head, with nowhere to go but down, Hansen falls to the canvas with Kevin still perched on top, he reaches behind himself and hooks the legs… </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> 1… </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> 2…</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> No!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Steve Williams kicked Von Erich from the outside and broke the hold, he takes the warning with a laugh meanwhile Kevin has escaped and is crawling over to Kerry in the corner… he reaches his out his hand… </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> NO! </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Dr Death has got the tag from the spaced out Stan Hansen and after a running kick to Kevin he’s unable to make the tag to his brother! The pent up frustration boils over as he clotheslines Steve Williams and does a leaping punch towards Hansen who has no option but to bail from the apron. The announce team hype Jushin Liger’s 100% record and that he must certainly be in line for a title shot of some description in the near future if he can keep this up. That’s not to say Cocoa Samoa was underestimated, far from it – the Samoan’s high flying offence was much closer to what Liger’s comfortable with and it reflected in the pace of their match – both high fliers taking to the top turnbuckle at regular intervals. Despite their efforts though, the two couldn’t engage the crowd and it was to a muted reception that Liger picked up the victory with a Liger Bomb.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Jushin ‘Thunder’ Liger by pinfall in 12:34</strong></p><p><strong> Grade: D+</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="36731" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>The Barbarian & Big Bubba Rogers vs. The Fabulous Freebirds</strong></p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/TheBarbarian.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/BigBubbaRogers.jpg</span> <strong>vs.</strong> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/MichaelHayes.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/TerryGordy.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> Another warm –up match that the crowd seemed to telegraph was this battle of the big men. Although they had claimed to not be interested in the NWA World Tag Titles, the Freebirds couldn’t help but be intrigued by Kevin Von Erich’s plight and with the Great American Bash in three short weeks it could be possible for them to not only inflict more pain on the Von Erichs but take their Tag Team titles too… with this motivation The Barbarian and Big Bubba Rogers were really up against it and for all their size and strength, they never managed to get into second gear against the fired up Freebirds. Koloff is a man who has no issue with the crowd’s hatred and seems to revel in it – he has a size and experience advantage over Guerrero which he looks to drive home at every opportunity. Chavo though didn’t get here through blind luck and is more than capable of handling himself – Koloff though is slowing the match down with energy sapping arm locks, bearhugs and full nelsons… none of which are counting Chavo down and out but he is visibly tiring, even this early into the match… the reliance on holds is actually what brings about the sudden ending of the match as Chavo looks ready to turn in for an incoming side headlock only to find the opportunist Koloff has pulled back to deliver a Russian Sickle clothesline that threatens to tear Chavo’s head from its shoulders. With three hand slaps to the canvas, this one is over much to Magnum’s disappointment!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Ivan Koloff by pinfall in 9:36</strong></p><p><strong> Grade: C</strong></p><p> </p><p> As Chavo is helped to his feet the victorious champion turns and spots an opportunity… from behind he rushes Guerrero and beats him back down to the mat before unleashing a series of kicks at him.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/HectorGuerrero.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> From the back it’s… LazerTron? Eddie Graham’s son Mike is set to take on Barry Windham in memory of his father at a show of huge significance for the NWA. Windham claimed that Mike Graham wasn’t in the same league as him in the build-up to this match and while that might be true, nobody told Graham! He flew at Windham from the opening bell, his usually calm demeanour being sacrificed to a wildside that catches Windham on the wrong foot! The initial burst of enthusiasm can’t last though and as Windham slowly brings himself back into the match, Mike Graham seems to doubt himself again and the lack of self-faith proves to be crucial. Windham’s arrogance is the decisive factor in the match, he never doubts that he’ll win this one and so it proves when the plucky Graham finally succumbs to a Flying Lariat from Windham in what was a short but brilliant match that left the crowd a little disappointed with the outcome if not the effort displayed.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Barry Windham by pinfall in 12:27</strong></p><p><strong> Grade: B</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="36731" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>NWA World Heavyweight Title</strong></p><p><strong> Lex Luger (w/ Lou Albano) vs. Ric Flair © (w/ Ole Anderson)</strong></p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/LexLuger.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/LouAlbano.jpg</span> <strong>vs.</strong> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/RicFlair.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/OleAnderson.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> Most experts feel that Lex Luger is out of his depth as we climb into this match but no-one told the former Horseman as he comes at his former leader like a house on fire! Since Lou Albano arrived in Luger’s corner he’s been a different man – far more confident in himself and this catches the Nature Boy off guard, obviously expecting a slower paced power offence from Luger. From the very beginning Flair is on the back foot and the excitement builds around the crowd that we could be in for a shock result here after all! </p><p> </p><p> After only six minutes Luger has Flair in a reverse headlock and shocks the entire hall by hoisting Ric Flair into the torture rack! Luger’s hold has never been broken and here is the reigning NWA World Champion caught like a rat in a trap! Flair is screaming for mercy as Luger pulls the hold tighter! Earl Hebner is watching Flair like a hawk – he’s asking if he wants to give up…</p><p> </p><p> Flair shakes his head violently and screams ‘No!!!’</p><p> </p><p> Ole Anderson isn’t watching anymore of this… he reaches inside the ring and pulls at Luger’s foot, Luger tries to kick out at him but the shift in balance with the weight of the champ sends Luger falling backwards on top of the prone Flair! It might not be as effective as the Torture Rack but the slam into the mat still leaves the Nature Boy down and out! Luger’s back to his feet quicker and after dragging the champ into the middle of the ring he looks to get Flair hoisted back up again… but Flair’s too quick for that and after a low blow slows the Total Package to a veritable crawl, he follows up with a solid right chop to the chest, forcing Luger back into the corner with the ferocity of the blows.</p><p> </p><p> An Irish Whip into the opposite corner and Flair attempts to follow up with a running knee, only for Luger to dive out of the way and send Naitch careering into the turnbuckle in his wake!</p><p> </p><p> The match is only ten minutes old and the pair look like they’ve been in the wars. Luger now reverts to type and tries to wear Flair down – this is exactly the type of match that the Champion was expected and it sucks the challenger into making every mistake in the book. A series of vicious kicks to the leg sends Luger down to the canvas and Flair quickly looks to take advantage... he locks in the figure four and it’s Luger’s turn to be in agony! Luger’s strength though gives him a fighting chance and while the hold is locked in too tightly to be broken, Luger is able to drag himself over towards the ropes... Flair can’t believe it! Luger literally drags himself over to the apron and clutches the rope – forcing the champion to break the hold.</p><p> </p><p> Both men get back to their feet and Luger makes the biggest mistake of the match and his career to date... despite the weakness in his legs, he tries to catch Flair in the Torture Rack AGAIN! He manages to lift Flair up, but the leg gives way underneath him. Luger topples to the ring floor and Flair is quick to hook the leg and throw his own legs up on the ropes...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> 1...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> 2...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> NO! </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Earl Hebner has spotted the feet on the ropes and kicks Flair off the rope, Flair is incesnced and gets up to argue with the referee... Luger is up behind him and goes to catch the Nature Boy from behind, but he sidesteps the attack with a chop to the chest, Luger is doubled over and the Nature Boy smashes Luger’s head to the canvas with a DDT!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> 1...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> NO!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Luger has kicked out again! The crowd and the Champ can’t believe it!</p><p> </p><p> Luger’s back up again and he’s trying for ANOTHER torture Rack, this time Flair wriggles around the back and with a strong knee pushes Luger in towards the ropes, as he bounces back, Flair drops low and catches Luger in a schoolboy roll-up with a generous handful of tights... </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> 1...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> 2...</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p> 3!!!!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Ric Flair by pinfall in 14:30</strong></p><p><strong> Grade: B</strong></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> After a number of near escapes, Lex Luger finally succumbs to the World Champion but the crowd are on their feet applauding the youngster’s effort. Luger looks dejected, the champion is merely relieved. The two make eye contact and Luger offers Flair his hand... the champion shakes his head though and points to his own head – he’s suggesting that he’s too smart to fall for that old trick... Luger though just shrugs his shoulders and walks off... Ole Anderson gets in his face but Luger just laughs at him before leaving the ring... all the time the announcers put over that they don’t think this will be Lex Luger’s last title shot based on the strength of his performance.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Grade: B-</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="36731" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong>First Blood in a Steel Cell</strong></p><p><strong> Dusty Rhodes vs. Bob Orton Jr. (w/ Ole Anderson)</strong></p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/DustyRhodes.jpg</span> <strong>vs.</strong> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/BobOrtonJr.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/OleAnderson.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> The surprise choice for main event, for many, mostly the purists – the reason for this match closing out our show is clear from the amount of time it takes to assemble the steel cell that will be trying to contain Dusty Rhodes and Bob Orton Jr’s mutual hatred. When the match finally gets underway, it’s clear that neither man wants to waste any more time than necessary on each other. The American Dream won the last meeting between the two by disqualification but with no DQ rules instigated, a final victor will be needed tonight.</p><p> </p><p> Orton doesn’t waste any time and makes a beeline for the bandage protecting Dusty’s cut forehead. Dusty for his part is very much aware of the danger of the steel cell, one wrong blow would result in his head being busted open and the match ending instantly. What we get therefore is a cat and mouse routine where both men look to avoid the outside edge of the ring. The crowd are deeply absorbed in the match and react well to both men’s efforts to bust the other open. With nowhere to run, this is an extremely violent and bloodthirsty attempt from both. Orton takes the time to unhook one of the turnbuckles and the test of strength from both men trying to ram the other’s head into the corner proves fruitless.</p><p> </p><p> No pinfalls, no submissions the only way victory can come is by making your opponent bleed and both men really put a hurting on the other. Dusty’s head protection lasts around 15 minutes before Orton is able to pull the bandages and plaster off.</p><p> </p><p> Our ending comes when Ole Anderson slips a pair of brass knuckles to Bob Orton... these brass knuckles are the same ones that cut Dusty up in the first place... but they very near bring the end for Orton himself... with Dusty’s back against the cell, Orton swings a punch at the Dream’s head... but he says the blow coming and ducks to the side... leaving Orton to punch the bars of the cell at full strength... the scream of agony is there for all to hear as Orton connects and falls to the floor of the cell holding his limp hand. It is Dusty’s time to press the advantage and clambering on top, he rains heavy blow after heavy blow on the Dream’s head... but thanks to a liberal use of low blow tactics, Orton is able to convince Dusty to move... Orton staggers to his feet and slumps into the corner to regain his strength. Dusty gets back to his feet and runs at Orton with a double axe handle on his mind... Orton though is not as badly hurt as he was claiming and quick as a flash steps forward and trips Dusty with a drop toe hold. Caught off balance, it’s too late for Dusty to protect himself as his head bounces off the exposed turnbuckle. Quick as a flash, Orton is on top of Dusty and smashing him in the head with hard rights, still wearing his brass knuckles... He rolls the unconscious Rhodes over and sure enough the cut on the Dream’s head has re-opened this one is all over and Bob Orton Jr. has gotten his revenge! Orton leaves the ring in triumph leaving a broken and bloodied Dusty Rhodes lying in his wake.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Bob Orton Jr. in 27:12</strong></p><p><strong> Grade: B+</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="font-size:18px;">Overall Show Grade: B</span></strong></p></div><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="36731" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Prediction Scores (out of a possible 15) <p> </p><p> Zergon: 12</p><p> </p><p> Smwilliams: 10</p><p> Danish Superhero: 10</p><p> The Final Countdown: 10</p><p> Guyver3: 10</p><p> pyroman: 10</p><p> </p><p> Franticloser: 9</p><p> Destiny: 9</p><p> </p><p> Beejus: 8</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="36731" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div>Standings in Prediction Contest after 3 shows:<p> </p><p> Zergon: 30</p><p> </p><p> Danish Superhero: 26</p><p> </p><p> Beejus: 25</p><p> Guyver3: 25</p><p> </p><p> Pyroman: 24</p><p> </p><p> Smwilliams: 23</p><p> </p><p> The Final Countdown: 22</p><p> Franticloser: 22</p><p> </p><p> Cyclops: 15</p><p> </p><p> Coop: 9</p><p> Destiny: 9</p><p> </p><p> BHK 1978: 6</p><p> Smasher1311: 6</p><p> </p><p> Chuck: 4</p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> Thanks again everyone for your predictions - they really do have an impact as it lets me see what everyone else is thinking - who's hot and who's not! <p>Minor error with the dates--you've dated your last two TV shows as June 10th, and the PPV as the 11th. The most recent TV show should've been the 17th, and the PPV the 18th.</p><p> </p><p>

A strong showing from the NWA here. The cage match headlined, as it should have. I'll be curious to see whether this is truly the end for Dusty vs. the Cowboy, and if so, where they go from here. Flair retaining over Luger was obvious, with Ric still having unfinished business with Bockwinkel. Still, that was a pretty good outing for Lex, who just might be the guy who unseats Naitch somewhere down the road.</p>

<p>Unfortunately missed predicting the Memorial Show but still need to pop in and say how great this has become.. A great dynasty in it's own right; ignoring the link to TGA&B - this is top class..</p><p> </p><p>

The Dusty vs Orton feud has been great; loved the cage match.. And I can't wait for the eventual showdown between Flair and Bock..</p><p> </p><p>

Great show and I'm pulling for you to get up to TFC and the WWF's level..</p>

I'll be curious to see whether this is truly the end for Dusty vs. the Cowboy, and if so, where they go from here. To be honest, that was an uncessary statement because even the most casual observer could see from Murdoch’s body language that he had no time for Fernandez. Spitting out his trademark chewing tobacco into a bucket before the bout, Murdoch looked to make short work for Fernandez. And maybe, he truly was hungover but Manny never really got into the races in this one – Murdoch bullying and cajoling the Raging Bull for the majority of the bout. Even when Fernandez finally did spark to life, Captain Redneck only smiled and seemed to enjoy the blows he was being pelted with as he turned up the force of his own hits. Catching Fernandez in a front facelock, he was quickly hoisted into the air and slammed down to the canvas with a wicked brainbuster to give Murdoch the victory.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Dick Murdoch by Pinfall in 10:11</strong></p><p><strong> Grade: C+</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="36731" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/RicFlair.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/BarryWindham.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/TerryTaylor.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/BobOrtonJr.jpg</span><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/NickBockwinkel.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/KerryvonErich.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/KevinVonErich.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/DustyRhodes.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> A short promo video for the Great American Bash plays with NWA fans guaranteed an unforgettable night including stars like Ric Flair, The Four Horsemen, Nick Bockwinkel, Dusty Rhodes and The Von Erichs!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Grade: B-</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="36731" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/WahooMcDaniel.jpg</span><p> </p><p> Wahoo McDaniel is standing by with some words for Terry Taylor.</p><p> </p><p> McDaniel: “Last week Terry Taylor you threw the first punch at me. Guerrero for his part is looking to bounce back from the defeat he suffered at the hands of Ivan Koloff in his US title match at the Eddie Graham Memorial Show. In a very even contest, the relatively unknown Hashimoto is not afraid to use every and any trick in the book to try and press home the advantage against Chavo. Despite what morphs into blatant rulebreaking, Chavo still looks to have the match sown up when he captures Hashimoto in what the announcers call a ‘Mexican Surfboard’ and the crowd are expecting Hashimoto to quit when…</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/IvanKoloff.jpg</span></p><p> </p><p> </p><p> Ivan Koloff makes his way down to the ring, proudly wearing his USSR title. Guerrero is beaten into the canvas and fails to get even a single retaliatory shot in against his foe – Koloff kicks and punches Guerrero finishing him off with a series of shots to the head by the USSR title belt. After trying to get referee Teddy Long to send Stan Lane to the back and failing miserably, HTM settles down to supporting Idol from the sidelines. Having Lane by his side is a shrewd manoeuvre for Lawler as it seriously impacts the Honky Tonk Man’s ability to interfere, if not distract. Idol and Lawler are no strangers to each other and their old battles in Memphis are highlighted for the audience at home. Idol nearly scores an upset thanks to his ‘mentor’ when Honky Tonk jumps on the ring apron, Lawler instinctively goes to catch Honky with a huge punch but HTM pulls back on the ropes to avoid the blow before catapulting back into Lawler and sending him crashing backwards over Idol who was waiting with the schoolboy roll-up, Lawler managing to get his shoulder up in the nick of time! It was the closest that Idol got, however, Lawler popping the strap on his singlet and unloading with a barrage of shots before doubling Idol over and, with a look of steely determination straight at the Honky Tonk Man, the piledriver was delivered and Lawler had his hand raised in victory, Stan Lane joining him in the ring to celebrate!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Jerry Lawler by pinfall in 14:15</strong></p><p><strong> Grade: B-</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><blockquote data-ipsquote="" class="ipsQuote" data-ipsquote-contentapp="forums" data-ipsquote-contenttype="forums" data-ipsquote-contentid="36731" data-ipsquote-contentclass="forums_Topic"><div><div style="text-align:center;"><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/RicFlair.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/BarryWindham.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/OleAnderson.jpg</span><span>http://i881.photobucket.com/albums/ac17/Ritchardo_1979/JCP%20Diary%2088/TerryTaylor.jpg</span><p> </p><p> ‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair is beside Barry Windham & Ole Anderson while Terry Taylor hovers in the background.</p><p> </p><p> Flair: Nick Bockwinkel you’re about to make the biggest mistake of your life. I know last week when you challenged my man, Ole Anderson to a tag match that you thought you were safe. You thought that because Ole had hung up his boots last year that he wouldn’t accept your challenge and you’d be able to make yourself look big by making him look small… but it backfired on you buddy, it backfired big time because you don’t get to win 38 Tag Team Titles by stepping away from a challenge! He’s partnered up with some of the greatest wrestlers of all time and tonight’s no different because in Barry Windham, he’s one of the best men in his corner… For a smart man, this is a dumb move Bockwinkel… your partner Tommy Rich made his name in the biggest fluke of all time… anyone can win a title once Nick but you know as well as I do that it takes real class to lose a title and win it back again… Tommy, you never had the guts – you’re a one hit wonder! Leon Spinks to my Muhammad Ali… but Bockwinkel… at least he won the big one… that’s more than we can ever say for you! But I’m a man of my word and when you lose tonight, and mark my words you WILL lose, it won’t stop you getting another title shot at the Great American Bash… except… WOOOOOOOOO!!! I wanna know what’s in it for me! That’s right! He actually opens up the match against Tommy Rich and takes everyone by surprise by dominating the former world champion from the get-go. It wasn’t to last though and as Ole’s stamina began to drop, Rich escaped the ring and tagged in Bockwinkel as the crowd came unglued at Bock finally getting his hands on the Original Horseman. A fairly compelling wrestling match really came alive when Windham entered the ring to face Bockwinkel and what followed was a strong tag team match that the crowd bought into and featured several near falls. Victory, in the end, came through Ole’s own arrogance. Believing Tommy Rich to be beaten, Ole spent an age taunting Bockwinkel before preparing to hit Rich with the diving knee drop… only for Rich to roll out of the way – as Ole screamed out in pain, Rich quickly threw on a makeshift Figure Four leglock and an almost instant submission!</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> <strong>Winner: Tommy Rich by Submission in 16:43</strong></p><p><strong> Grade: C+</strong></p></div><p></p><p></p></div></blockquote><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><div style="text-align:center;"><p><strong><span style="font-size:18px;">Overall Show Grade: B-</span></strong></p></div><p></p>
