After the Show

http://i.imgur.com/mGogoVN.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/TXiLZpb.jpg

SK: "El Tempest? That was your big surprise?"

I am still having to laugh about it even though I have to admit I liked it. Tempest seemed rather thrilled at getting to do something different. It just sometimes seems so cheesy. Art himself is grinning widely and looks rather pleased with himself.

AL: "Me and Tempest had it planned almost from the start. Part of the reason why I was able to get him to sign. He knows he doesn't have many years left and wants to have some fun before he retires."

SK: "If only everyone was easy to please. So are you going to let him and Leftie main event next month?"

AL: "That is the plan. It is a once a year deal so it should come off as important. You will go out before them and get the crowd going a bit. Will also help kick some new plans I have into motion."

SK: "No hints?"

I should know better. Even if I am booking Art likes to surprise me from time to time. El Tempest was certainly one of those cases.

AL: "Well I can tell you who your opponent is. I am going to let you work with Brimstone."

That made me raise my brow. Brimstone was being booked a bit strong as of late, but to put him in a title match? Art really is wanting to test some of these guys early on and it might actually be the safest plan. Might be harder to do such things if we ever get more popular. Right now when our biggest audience has been twenty people we can get away with Brimstone going after the title. I just hope the surprise isn't giving Brimstone a run with the title. Not that I dislike the kid, but out of everyone he probably has the most work cut out for him even if he is probably busting his ass to prove he can improve and not be a danger to everyone.

SK: "I can do that. I am surprised you aren't giving Cal another shot."

The look I get is an odd one. Art usually isn't one to frown much, but I catch him looking uncertain and frowning a bit before he manages to put his poker face back on.

AL: "I got some plans for Cal, but for now I am just having him work with various people and keep him looking good. I got some ideas for the main event to last us through the next few months. I think sometime like October we will do a little AAW/4C main event. Team elimination and the like. After that I am going to take a break from using them. We'll concentrate on our own up through the new year."

SK: "Sounds good to me. Look, I am going to get out of here and ice myself down. Not getting any younger and I already feel the muscles getting sore."

Art gives me a firm slap on the back and nods while grinning again.

AL: "Enjoy it kid. We got more work to do. Got twenty people now so we got to keep pushing and bringing more in."

It is nice to see we are drawing more eyes to the product. Just how far can we go? I suppose if anything I have a job for the rest of the year from the sounds of it. I just wonder how long we are going to stay open. I really do let myself worry too much.

AAW All Action Canadian Championship

Sky King © vs Brimstone

Brimstone has been getting a push lately but surely that won´t lead into title run anytime soon.

King of the High Fliers Final

Leftie Wilkes vs El Tempest

No reason to give the win to outsider.

Also Appearing

Miller Fforde vs Buck Graham vs Roger Monteiro

Fforde gets the win here against two jobbers after his good performance in the debut show.

Austin Smooth/Ricochet Ramone vs Kirk Drury and Taylor Kidd

Smooth and Ramone are higher on the ladders.

Cal Sanders vs Fearless Blue

Sanders get another win.

Rex Reeves vs Disturbed

I figure that Disturbed has bit more going on than Reeves at least judging but the fact that he got promo time in his debut show.

Buck Graham vs Miller Fforde vs Roger Monteiro

A solid opener that just may show how talented Miller Fforde is. The three put on a good match given who is involved and manage to fill the small amount of time they are given with some nice high flying moves. Monteiro comes close to a win when he takes down Buck, but Fforde saves the match and sends Roger out of the ring. He then helps Buck up long enough to deliver the Fforde Flip Face Crusher to pick up his first win in AAW.

Winner: Miller Fforde

And unhappy trio of Ricochet Ramone, Austin Smooth and Venus come to the ring looking like they all, well two of them, have something to say.

RR: "We see how this company works. Promising to fire someone only to put them under a mask and try to pass them off as a new wrestler."

AS: "Or how the company protects their champ while keeping down true talent."

RR: "El Tempest, have your fun pretending you are some failed luchador. I got bigger fish to fry around here. In fact the biggest one happens to be Sky King. Champ, you're on notice. Tonight me and Austin here take out the trash and next month I take out you."

AS: "We are Youthful Aggression and we aren't going to take this bullshit anymore."

Youthful Aggression with Venus vs Kirk Drury and Taylor Kidd

The curse of Taylor Kidd seems to rear its ugly head again. Though in this case it isn't fully his fault. Him and Kirk just don't gel together and when facing off against two top competitors like Austin and Ramone that is never a good thing. Youthful Aggression control most of the match by keeping Kidd away from his partner and seem to have an easy win wrapped up. Kidd slips free though and Kirk finally gets tagged in where he starts to go ham on Youthful Aggression with big strikes and an array of suplex variants. He lays out Ramone and takes Kidd to put him away, but Austin pushes Kidd off the top rope and quickly goes after Drury. Both Drury and Austin tumble out of the ring fighting while Ramone recovers and hits the Ricochet Senton to get the win.

Winners: Youthful Aggression

Disturbed vs Rex Reeves

Once again Disturbed's erratic behavior seems to throw his opponent off his game and the masked man capitalizes on it. Disturbed is also able to show off a bit more with Rex than he was the previous match and shows a more diverse offense as he picks apart the veteran. He even locks in a painful looking submission hold this time around to win, a move he calls Total Psychotic Break.

Winner: Disturbed

Fearless Blue vs Cal Sanders

Fearless Blue may have had a rough time last month, but he bounces back to perhaps have the best match of his career. It is easily his best in AAW and given his opponent is Cal Sanders it might not be that big of surprise. If anything Cal has proved consistent and often is involved with the best matches of each show. Blue gets to unleash his reckless and innovative offense and he manages to give Cal a run for his money. Cal's experience and patience ends up being valuable and once Fearless Blue crashes and burns on a moonsault the veteran is quick to capitalize. One Frog Splash later and Cal picks up another win.

Winner: Cal Sanders

Brimstone is out before his title match and quietly observes the crowd gathered. Dark eyes scan over everyone before the masked figure speaks.

Brim: "The reckoning draws closer with each day that passes. A voice.....a beautiful voice calls for her chosen children and it becomes clearer each day. Soon those that oppose her shall fall into oblivion."

Sky King © vs Brimstone

Last month looks to be a fluke because Sky King manages to pull a pretty good match out of possibly one of the worst workers. Granted Brimstone has worked hard to improve, but he has a long way to go still and getting to work with someone like Sky King is only going to help him along the way. He controls the early match with a vicious offense of big strikes that keeps Sky King off his feet. Much like the last match experience ends up being a key factor and the champ manages to find the right time to mount a comeback and start to get momentum being him. Brimstone attempts one last desperate move to try and come back, but he misses with a big boot and gets taken down. Sky King climbs up top and delivers his Sky King Splash for another victory.

Sky King is getting his title handed back to him when Disturbed slips into the ring and attacks. He picks up the title and slams it over Sky King's head before turning his attention to Brimstone. The masked man mutters to himself the entire time as he helps roll Brimstone out of the ring and assists him to the back as the referee tries to revive Sky King.

El Tempest vs Leftie Wilkes

Leftie Wilkes gives off the impression he really doesn't want to be in the match and it perhaps as a whole it hurts things. El Tempest at least seems very happy to be in the final and is doing his best to entertain and play to the crowd. The problem is he also doesn't just seem to have the stamina to keep up the high pace for a long time so the main event isn't near as long as it normally would be. All the factors combined make for a match that is good for AAW standards, but not great. Wilkes does get to spend most of the match beating up on the Canadian luchador, but he becomes too cocky and it gives El Tempest an opening to get in a surprise hit to stun the 4C competitor. El Tempest quickly takes him down and hits with the Tumbleweed Elbow Drop to become the first ever King of High Fliers.

Winner and King of High Fliers: El Tempest

Leftie Wilkes seems more than eager to get out of the ring and leave as El Tempest is presented his trophy. He holds it up high and celebrates a bit with the small crowd to end the night.

Sky King's thoughts

Leftie Wilkes was kind of a jerk tonight and it took a lot of convincing to get him to take the loss. It left a bit of a bad taste in the mouth of me and Art so we might not be seeing him any time soon. Overall the show felt like it was in cruise control. We didn't really have a bad match, but it really felt like the only match that truly stood out was Cal and Blue. Brimstone came with his working boots on and despite having a rep for injuring people he made it another match without incident. The crowd was the biggest to date too and hopefully we can keep up the positive momentum into September and manage to get them all back.

Had to laugh when El Tempest appeared. That was a pretty nice idea. Once again, I love this diary. It's probably one of my two favourites at the moment.

Awesome to hear. Glad you are enjoying things. I know I am having a blast with this diary to the point I am having to stop myself from getting too far ahead in my save.

A Grateful Champion

http://i.imgur.com/TXiLZpb.jpg

It had been a long night. While it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be the match with Brimstone had me feeling more sore than normal. Then again maybe it is just a sign of age finally catching up with me. At least I still feel sharp when in the ring. I don't feel like I have lost at step at least, but it certainly isn't as easy to do things like it was ten...heck even five years ago.

???: "Hey, bookerman!"

http://i.imgur.com/49o2ljw.jpg

I turned about to see it was Appleby calling out to me. Looks like he got out of that musty old mask Art gave him and was all smiles. Before I could even ask him what is going on he just gave me a big hug. At least I think when he did it he popped something back into place.

TA: "Man, thank you so much. Both you an Art are too kind to a guy like me."

The look on his face was genuine. I was even sure he was trying to hold back a tear. Titles as a whole are a rare thing to come by and for someone like him he probably never figured he would win anything at his age. Something like this is a reminder that even if I have ever only held two titles in my life it is a lot more than many other guys that have laced up their boots.

SK: "You have been a big help here, man. A good veteran presence and a solid professional. It was the least we could do."

TA: "It is more than enough. I'll be forty next year, King. My career feels like it has just went by in a flash and I could have retired with no real accolades. I might not be around this company for the long haul, but when I am retired I can hope to one day see this company still thriving and go 'That was me, their first King of High Fliers'. King, thanks again...thank you so much. Be safe on the ride home."

SK: "Y...yeah. You too, Tempest. See you in a few weeks."

I am pretty sure he had to make his exit because he didn't want to cry. Really his words really resonated in my mind. I looked at my own title that was sitting near my duffle and started to think the same thing. Where would I be in a few years. Would I be retired? Would I still be working with Art? Heck, would the company still be going the way it is now?

Perhaps I am just being too deep, but I couldn't help but think about things as I finished packing things up and headed for my car. If anything I felt anxious now. Anxious to make it to the next show. Anxious to see what the future has in store.

Name over non-named team, and the other guys are jobber material.

Buck Graham vs Cal Sanders

Graham is going to be out of the game in five years. Cal is still decent.

EL Tempest vs Taylor Kidd

Tempest has more going for him, and should go over here.

Fearless Blue vs Kirk Drury

"Kick Ass" is a smudge better, and I think he'll get this top-up.

Miller Fforde vs Austin Smooth

Smooth gets a squash here, a tune-up for his eventual title match.

AAW All Action Canadian Championship

Sky King © vs Ricochet Ramone

Ramone is one of the four guys (alongside Smooth, Sanders and El Tempest) who I currently could see becoming the next champion but I don´t think that King will drop the belt just yet.

Also Appearing

Mask Hysteria (Disturbed and Brimstone) vs Roger Monteiro and Rex Reeves

As first real tag team in AAW, I figure that they should at least win their first match together, espesially against jobbers like Monteiro and Reeves.

Buck Graham vs Cal Sanders

The only question here is how good Sanders manage to make Graham look here.

EL Tempest vs Taylor Kidd

Kidd seems to have bit of bad luck with chemistries and that seems to have dropped him a bit on pecking order, thus Tempest gets the win on this one.

Fearless Blue vs Kirk Drury

I could see this one going either way as Blue has been surprisingly strong so far but I figure that Drury has bigger upside and thus go with him.

Miller Fforde vs Austin Smooth

Fforde has been good so far but Smooth is likely too much for him at this point.
