Submission Match: No Time Limit

Cal Sanders vs Austin Smooth

SAnders make a nice early challenger for Disturbed and match against him could only help the current champ. Smooth is good too but while him against Disturbed would likely be a great match, it wouldn´t really give fans anyone to cheer for.

Also Appearing

Mask Hysteria vs Sky King and ???

So apparently the mystery man is a big name (at least on AAW´s standards) and since I already rated King bit higher than either man from Mask Hysteria (yes, even after Disturbed winning the main belt) I´m going to go with King and the mystery guy.

Fearless Blue vs Rex Reeves

Blue is slighly higher on pecking order.

Roger Monteiro vs Ricochet Ramone

Ramone gets another win while he waits for bigger match that gives him real opportunity to prove he deserves a title shot.

Kirk Drury vs El Tempest

Tempest had his title shot already and you seem to generally give just one shot to each challenger before moving to next one so building Drury up to his eventual title shot seems likely plan here espesially since Drury already proved that he can beat the main guys when he did go over Ramone.

Taylor Kidd vs Miller Fforde

Fforde if bit higher on pecking order on my books.

First Strike

SK: "I think that is enough for the day. How do you feel, Kris?"

FB: "I reckon I am doing okay. I feel like I am doing better."

Kris came to me about two months ago asking for some help in trying to refine his ring work. Honestly he is too nice of a guy so saying no wasn't an option. Not to mention it is a bit refreshing sometimes to have guys ask for help when they know they have a few weaknesses.

SK: "I have seen improvement too. We will continue to try and refine your in ring psy-"

My phone began to go off and judging by the ringtone it was Art. I excused myself for a moment to answer.

http://i.imgur.com/mGogoVN.jpg

AL: "We got a problem, kiddo. Where are you?"

SK: "At the gym with Kris. What seems to be the problem?"

The pause worries me. Usually Art gets straight to the point instead of taking time to think out what he wants to say. At least when he is sober.

AL: "We got to move up the show. I need you to contact the venue and see if they will allow us to have our show a week early this month. If not we will have to find one."

SK: "What? Why are we moving up the show?"

AL: "Son of a bitch Daedalus. I got a seven day notice and I will be damned if I will have a show ruined."

Now I am worried. Nothing had been mentioned about ACPW since October and that drunken conversation was assumed to just be two guys making mistake. Now it seems like Daedalus has decided to actually try and sabotage a show by luring someone away.

SK: "Who is it?"

It honestly could be anyone. I am assuming it isn't Kris because he was here so at eliminates one person, but I could see a few guys perhaps being tempted away.

AL: "I'll tell you later. Just get to calling the venue. I will start informing the boys we are moving things up."

He hung up before I could ask any other questions. With a sign I returned to where Kris was. He obviously could see the worry on my features and grimaced some.

FB: "Something bad happen?"

SK: "Someone put in a notice. We have to put on the show early. Sorry, Kris. I can't continue. Art needs my help."

FB: "Someone did? I can't believe someone would want to leave a place like this. Shucks, I am sorry to hear. Just let me know when you need me."

Me, Art and Fearless Blue. Three names I know aren't involved jumping ship. As I get to calling up the venue several names ran through my head. I never expected this to happen. Sure shows sometimes have to change dates, but I never expected it over a reason like this.

AAW: Taking Flight 13

January, Saturday, Week 3

Submission Match: No Time Limit

Cal Sanders vs Austin Smooth

Smooth is the guy with the submission finisher, so I pick him.

Also Appearing

Mask Hysteria vs Sky King and ???

Sky King's mystery partner seems to be a relatively big name, so him and King will go over.

Fearless Blue vs Rex Reeves

So, Fearless Blue is Sky King's protege now? Surely he'll continue to get pushed, then.

Roger Monteiro vs Ricochet Ramone

Ricochet is much higher on the totem pole than Roger. But if I had to pick, he could be the one to leave AAW. So, you might book an upset here.

Kirk Drury vs El Tempest

Tough to pick, but if Kirk is going to be a tag team guy, he can afford to lose in singles competition.

Taylor Kidd vs Miller Fforde

The same goes for Miller Fforde, but based on your year-end review, you seem to like Fforde a bit better than Taylor.

http://i.imgur.com/3apEbeO.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/Oo3AVvJ.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/9gCYFHi.jpg

Fearless Blue vs Rex Reeves

A pretty solid opening bout given the two men involved. Blue has been showing some improvement, but still has a good way to go. At least he is a rather flashy wrestler so that helps mask some of his shoddy ring work. Rex on the other hand isn't looking like he is having luck starting the new year on the winning side of things. He is overwhelmed by Fearless Blue and eventually falls to the Sky Twister Press.

Winner: Fearless Blue

Roger Monteiro vs Ricochet Ramone

Ramone continues to show a new mean streak as he beats Monteiro about. Monteiro gets little offense in and mostly looks like a bit of a rag doll with the way Ramone is treating him. Ramone downs Monteiro and puts him away with the Ricochet Senton.

Winner: Ricochet Ramone

Rating: 33

http://i.imgur.com/kpFkTn5.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/rPnkrGm.jpg

Ramone stays in the ring afterwards and he still doesn't look happy despite the fact he had a rather impressive and dominant win.

RR: "I feel like I am being ignored. Look at the competition I am being given. I can't help but notice that my partner in crime, Austin Smooth, is getting main events while I am taking on guys like Roger here. This will change soon or you will see a side of me you won't like."

Taylor Kidd vs Miller Fforde

Taylor Kidd is not starting off the new year well. It seems his bad lucky has returned as he and Fforde are putting on a match that by all means should be better given their talent. There are timing issues and it feels like they rush through parts to get to the end. Fforde picks himself up the win in the end with the Fforde Flip Face Crusher.

El Tempest vs Kirk Drury

A very even matched bout with both men sporting different styles. It is easily the best match so far. They keep the match going back and forth with El Tempest impressing with his high flying offense while Kirk uses various holds and an array of suplexes to try and keep his opponent grounded. Kirk gets a big win to kick off the new year when he manages to snag El Tempest out of the air and gives him a punishing belly to belly suplex before locking on the Scorpion Deathlock.

Winner: Kirk Drury

Mask Hysteria is in the ring waiting when Sky King comes out. He remains a bit away from the ring and he just smirks some as Brimstone and Disturbed seem to think their opponent couldn't find a partner. That changes very soon as a masked figure steps out to stand next to Sky King.

http://i.imgur.com/7E7S8hp.jpg

The fans may be a bit unsure who Sky King's partner is, but Brimstone and Disturbed are clearly not happy with the development. Sky King and UK Dragon hit the ring and all hell breaks loose.

Dragon Kings vs Mask Hysteria

A good match considering one of the men involved is Brimstone. It might have been better if not for the fact Sky King doesn't seem to be fully into the match. Mask Hysteria seem to try and capitalize on that and keep Sky King away from his partner and come close to winning the match several times. Eventually the hot tag is made to UK Dragon and he begins to unleash and impressive offense that wow the audience who may not know who he was at the start of the night, but will certainly remember him by the time the match is done. Disturbed gets tossed from the ring then Brimstone is scooped up before being planted on the mat with a Dragon Drop. Sky King is tagged in and he hits the Sky King Splash for extra measure while UK Dragon dives out of the ring to keep Disturbed from coming in to break the count.

Austin Smooth with Venus vs Cal Sanders

Referee Rob Perkins tells Venus to leave ringside much to the dismay of her and Austin Smooth. The two men lock up and just when it seems the two can't top what they have done in the previous two efforts they seem to be doing just that. The two men punish each other and several submission attempts are made on both sides without any luck. Both men are breaking out holds they haven't even used before and both seem to have a way to counter it. The only hold Smooth can't seem to lock on is the Smooth Hold as Cal Sanders just seems to have it scouted very well and manages to get out before it is fully locked in or he is in reach of the ropes.

Both men are covered in sweat as the minutes tick by and that just makes it even harder to get a good grip. Cal starts to get a good string of offense in and build momentum. He is about to lock in what looks like a figure four when Smooth thumbs Cal in the eye. He gets up quickly and plants Cal in the middle of the ring with a DDT and finally locks in the Smooth Hold. Cal struggles and almost reaches the ropes, but he is too spent to drag Smooth far enough. Cal eventually passes out and the referee raises his arm three times only for it to hit the mat each time.

Venus comes out to celebrate with her man who is having a hard time standing. Cal is rolled out of the ring and for being passed out he seems to start moving rather quickly to leave. Austin pays no attention and instead has a smarmy look on his face as he looks to the audience.

Hurtful Farewell

http://i.imgur.com/TXiLZpb.jpg

I was waiting for him to come back after the match with Austin. Of all the people I never expected Cal to be the one to jump ship. I started to worry and get suspicious when he just suddenly stopped answering calls and texts and then he didn't show up early like usual. I just wanted to ask why. He was a friend and a guy that really helped keep the locker room together on the day of the show. Someone that helped take the pressure off me and Art and then he just up and leaves for ACPW?

I start to realize he is going to exit the building another way and as I start to move a hand firmly grabs my shoulder and turns me around.

http://i.imgur.com/mGogoVN.jpg

AL: "Don't bother, kiddo. He left out the door behind the crowd. He isn't coming back."

SK: "What the hell, Art? Why didn't you tell me until it was show time?"

AL: "And have you panic for weeks and then possibly cause problems? Come here."

He obviously rather not have the other guys see or hear things as he pulls me into one of the back rooms.

AL: "Look, you were a mess all night and it even showed in the match. Thankfully the other guys covered for you. Cal did things professionally and gave me a notice and did the job to put Austin over before leaving. I know you two were becoming good friends so I thought it best to not tell you."

SK: "But why? Cal never once mentioned ever being interested in working there."

AL: "Money, kid. I don't think he has anything against us and he isn't exactly a spring chicken. Daedalus almost doubled his salary and offered him five years. I couldn't compete with that. Even more so after signing Dragon. Best I could do was still about three hundred less a show so he said he was leaving in seven days."

Damn it. It is sound reasoning to leave, but he could have gone elsewhere. We could have sent him to 4C for some extra pay and work. He could have maybe caught on elsewhere. Maybe I am just being selfish to think he was going to be with the company until he retired.

SK: "Any reason Daedalus do it? Just being a dick?"

AL: "A good amount is him being a dick and wanting to show he has more money than us. The boys over there are putting on matches and they have seen crowds increase. Doesn't help CGC came calling and took Rajah away from them and 4C. Daedalus needed a replacement and he decided to hurt us in the process."

SK: "Shit, what are we going to do? I mean Dragon being here now helps, but we would have been so much better if he and Cal stuck around."

Art just smiled. It is probably good he is the one in charge. For the most part things just don't seem to phase him. I suppose being in the business for over 30 years and pretty much seeing anything helps.

SK: "We keep going, kiddo. I got a replacement already and I think we will be just fine."

A Familiar Face

http://i.imgur.com/TXiLZpb.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/mGogoVN.jpg

It had been about two weeks since Cal left and I would be a liar to say it didn't still sting. At least working with Art does help me keep my mind off of it. It also feels weird to be penciling in names for matches and keep wanting to put Cal's name down only to remember at the last moment he isn't around.

SK: "You still don't have a match for Tempest. He is usually one of the first ones you find a match for."

AL: "Debating. Got three ideas for him. One of them is the new guy."

SK: "You still haven't said who you got as a replacement. Are you going to tell me or keep it a surprise?"

AL: "Surprise? In fact."

Art raises a hand and points past me. Looking up and over my shoulder I see him pointing to the door that opens. I honestly have to say I did not expect to see a familiar face.

http://i.imgur.com/sdCj0IA.jpg

SK: "Holy shit. Malik!?"

Malik Cash, one half of the Inner City Express with Jay Becker. Perhaps the most successful tag team ACPW has had over the years. They could have perhaps been even better if not for the fact Jay has a bit of an ego while Malik has had a more level head.

MC: "Art! King boy! We ready to do business?"

I have to admit I was surprised and honestly happy to see someone I have known over the years. He gave us both a bro hug before settling down with a big grin on his face.

AL: "Surprised?"

SK: "To say the least. Why aren't you with ACPW anymore?"

MC: "Contract came up. Me and Jay sort of had a difference of opinion the past few months and his ego was getting pretty out of control. Saying he was the better man of the team and wanted a singles run. I guess if we weren't a team one of us was expendable. Honestly I am glad to be gone. That place is getting pretty toxic."

SK: "Toxic? I mean Jay and Gram were always a bit annoying, but otherwise things have usually been fine."

MC: "I don't know how to explain it man. Just be glad you and Art left when you did. I did not enjoy the past year very much."

SK: "Well hey, glad to have you aboard."

I meant that too. Malik has been a bit inconsistent over the years, but he is a pretty talented guy. Daedalus might see this as us seeming weak by taking an ACPW 'reject', but I think in the end it is his loss to let Malik walk and we would be foolish to pass him up. Work could wait for awhile. The next few hours were spent catching up and hearing some of the backstage drama going on in ACPW. Needless to say I am glad I left and even if I am pissed at him I feel sorry for Cal right about now.

Not losing it to Dragon. Not gonna lie, not quite sure if Dragon is a good or bad addition to your roster. Sure he is a good talent, but he's closer to 40 than 30 and with WLW, and chances are he's going to get a written deal if they become cult, which shouldn't be too far away now.

Sky King vs Brimstone

Yeah, Brimstone has gotten a slight push but he isn't beating the King

Kick Ass Connection (Kirk Drury and Miller Fforde) vs Youthful Aggression (Ricochet Ramone and Austin Smooth)

Tough one but Austin just beat Cal, whether he was on his way out or not, beating Cal is a big deal. Also interested in seeing what rating this gets

El Tempest vs Malik Cash

Toughie, I could see The 'Pest winning this but Cash seems to be a guy to replace Cal, which means a win over 'Pest puts him right in that mould.

Kind of hoping you let us know how Cal is getting on in ACPW in terms of win-loss and ratings. Chances are he'll be jobbed out. Oh and once Cal become available again #KingvCalShootStreetFight #MakeithappenVoeltz

This match may get a negative rating. Blue is the biggest name in the match so I'm going with his team.

Sad to see Cal being the one that got stolen as he was one of my favorites and I was looking forward to see if he could hang on the top of your promotion. Oh well, guess it´s time to pick new favorite then. :D

AAW All Action Canadian Championship

Disturbed © vs UK Dragon

I do like Dragon but I doubt Disturbed would drop the belt this quickly.

Also Appearing

Fearless Blue and Roger Monteiro vs Taylor Kidd and Rex Reeves

I could see this going either way depending of if you are more conserned on keeping Blue strong or by giving Kidd and Reeves a somewhat meaningful win. I personally think that Blue wining is the more likely outcome so that´s what I´m going to pick.

Sky King vs Brimstone

King is still the bigger name despite Brimstone´s recent push.

Kick Ass Connection (Kirk Drury and Miller Fforde) vs Youthful Aggression (Ricochet Ramone and Austin Smooth)

This is a tough one actually as Drury and Fforte seem to be on a rise and I feel that they would be more logical opponents for Disturbed. That being said, Smooth did get an important win over Cal so it would also be logical to keep building on that plus Ramone is the only guy in this one who have had some promo time lately and usually to me promo time = push ... All in all, I think Youthful Aggression will win but it´s not as clear cut as it would had been few months ago when King was the champion.

El Tempest vs Malik Cash

Could go either way depending on how strong you want Malik to look right at the start. Personally, I would probably have him lose here, mainly because I would view him as ACPW guy and I feel that having guy who ACPW let go instantly beat one of your top guys would send a wrong signal about the strenght of your roster.

Of course he has! For me, it's not about the fact that he left AAW, but more about the way he did it (storyline-wise). Not informing Sky at all, leaving immediately after the show without saying a word, that's just not nice. Looks like he didn't honour his time in AAW. I mean, it's always like that in the game, it's just about the way Voeltzwagon told the story.

It may not have been the best way to do it, but Cal was at least professional in informing Art and evening doing the job to put Austin over before he left, but at the same time he felt embarrassed perhaps and just didn't have it in him to talk to his friend. I did actually give them a strong friendship, but after him going to ACPW I switched it to simmering tension as I see the friendship gone, but possibly mended one day. It is just a long time away at this rate with Cal on a five year deal.

Fearless Blue and Roger Monteiro vs Rex Reeves and Taylor Kidd

Looks like experimentation with tag teams here and the results are two teams that do well enough. It is a short spot fest between four guys that don't really have the psychology to offer much else to a match. A pretty even bout with both teams showing offense before Fearless Blue manages to pull out a win for his team. Roger has Kidd busy outside the ring as Blue takes out Rex Reeves and hits him with a Sky Twister Press.

Brimstone vs Sky King

This match is very much on par with the championship match between Brimstone and Sky King many months ago. Brimstone gets plenty of offense in, but he isn't able to finish the job. Sky King is just too scrappy and keeps managing to fight back. He finally gets some steam and starts to string together a good offense to throw Brimstone completely off his game. Disturbed will have to hope he fares better than his accomplice because Brimstone falls victim to the Sky King Splash.

Disturbed hits the ring almost right after Sky King gets the win and he starts to beat down the veteran. Malik Cash vs El Tempest

Malik Cash makes an impressive debut and puts on a good match with El Tempest. He may not be the most polished in the ring, but he is flashy and exciting while being competent enough to help carry his end of the match without entirely relying on just hitting big moves. The two push one another to the limit and it might be the youth and conditioning of Malik Cash that is the deciding factor. As the match progresses El Tempest looks to be fighting for breath while Malik seems to be able to carry on. Even so Tempest takes down Malik and goes for the Tumbleweed Elbow Drop, but Malik moves and gets the surprised El Tempest up into the air and takes him down with the Cash Drop.

Malik Cash is celebrating his first win when Youthful Aggression enters the ring. Malik is ready to defend himself, but the tag team just laugh it off and don't look to go on the attack, but instead just mock the new arrival.

RR: "Wow, how impressive. Beating up an old man in a mask. If you want to stick around you can watch two true professionals as we take down those two blond goofs that think they are ass kickers."

AS: "Once you see how good I *pause* we are you will want to go crawling right back where you come from. You can go be a loser like that one guy I just chased out of AAW. What was his name? Oh well, he isn't important enough for me to be bothered."

RR: "Cold, but damn true. Now get out of our ring, Malik. We got a match to win."

The two men make a shooing motion and Malik exits, though he doesn't turn his back on the two just in case. He just gives a bit of a smirk as he backs away and eventually leaves.

Youthful Aggression with Venus vs Kick Ass Connection

Youthful Aggression start off impressively and look to have the upper hand on the earlier part of the match. They seem to even be having fun and perhaps get too cocky the way they are mocking KAC. It ends up being a bad move to take the two lightly and it just takes a quick tag to get Kirk Drury in that allows for KAC to start making a comeback. As KAC roll a few miscues cause things just to fall apart on Youthful Aggression's end. They try to double team Drury and he manages to roll forward and avoid Ramone's drop kick which instead hits Smooth and sends him out of the ring. Drury quickly grabs Ramone and hits him hard with a Northern Lights suplex and tags in Fforde. Fforde climbs up and lets Drury launch him in the air and drop him onto Ramone.

Austin Smooth enters the ring and is irate. He begins to berate a still groggy Ramone who soon gets in his partner's face and the two look close to coming to blows much to the crowd's delight. They exchange words as Venus comes in and tries to pull Austin away. He finally backs away but sticks his finger in Ramone's face.

AS: "You're the weak link and you cost us the match!"

Smooth leaves the ring in a huff with Venus in tow as Ramone seems to be in disbelief.

RR: "You're just weighing me down anyways! I'll get the belt before you ever will!"

He too soon leaves in a huff himself. Not happy times in Youthful Aggression land.

Disturbed © vs UK Dragon

UK Dragon makes his singles debut and he shows himself to be a skilled veteran that can do a bit of everything. He proves to be quite the challenge for the champion who several times has to bail out of the ring to try and figure out his next move. Of course that doesn't help when UK Dragon is firing himself over the ropes and lands on top of Disturbed. The two masked fighters fight all around the ring before getting inside before the ten count. UK Dragon is starting to look like he has things in hand when Brimstone makes his presence known and serves as a good distraction. It looks like they took out Sky King to keep him from helping out Dragon and the challenger finds things getting difficult. The pair prove to be too much trouble and while trying to take Brimstone out of the equation, Disturbed slips in and rolls up Dragon. The referee doesn't see Disturbed has a hand full of tights too as he gets the pin and retains.

Sky King's Thoughts

I try to figure out why WLW let UK Dragon go, but I count it as a blessing for us. He is an impressive veteran that can probably make anyone on our roster look good. No knock on Disturbed. He did well himself and the pair put on one of our better main events. I felt as a whole all the matches did what they needed to do and after seeing Malik in action I think he will do just fine here in AAW. I think Disturbed is doing just fine as champion so far and I think it was a good move to put the title on him.
