Kirk Drury vs Buck Graham

Kick Ass seems fine doing just that. Buck Graham is learning what it is like to be suplexed in so many ways tonight he is moving with the grace of two people with Parkinson's on a tilt-a-whirl when all is said and done. He may have gotten a kick in the short time he was upright and possibly the smartest thing he does is to quickly tap out to the Scorpion Deathlock.

Winner: Kirk Drury

Taylor Kidd vs Fearless Blue

A much more competitive match than the last one. Kidd might have been having bad luck, but he at least gets bursts of offense and he looks like he has a change to win most of his matches. In fact he seems to have this one in hand early on. The small crowd starts to chant 'Fear the Fearless' which seems to give Fearless Blue a second wind and he mounts a comeback complete with a Sky Twister Press that picks him up a victory.

Winner: Fearless Blue

Brimstone vs Miller Fforde

Brimstone seems to still be upset about his loss last month and picks up where he left off by kicking Miller Fforde about. Fforde recovers and he turns the tide a few times and even gets a close pinfall on the masked fighter. Brimstone eventually hefts Fforde up at one point and manages to drop him across the ropes throat first. Fforde never really recovers after that and Brimstone puts him away with an Ashes to Ashes.

Winner: Brimstone

Brimstone dumps Fforde out of the ring and remains in it, the masked man staring at the crowd and keeping silent for a brief moment before speaking.

Brim: "It all begins and ends this night. She smiles upon those deserving and the weak shall fall."

He just lets out a dark laugh and exits the ring and heads for the back, laughing all the way.

El Tempest vs Rex Reeves

The matches are increasingly improving in quality and the reigning King of High Fliers continues to roll. Reeves tries to put down the masked 'luchador', but has little luck. El Tempest rolls and shouts Ole loudly as he takes Reeves out with the Tumbleweed Elbow Drop.

Winner: El Tempest

Ricochet Ramone vs Roger Monteiro

The recipient of perhaps one of the bigger upsets as of late seems focused now and seems intent to dismantle Monteiro in a rather quick and decisive manner. He shows aggression and smothers Roger with quick strikes and high impact moves. He goes up high and delivers the Ricochet Senton to get back on the winning track.

Austin Smooth and Venus come out to the ring first as the former gets ready for his match against Cal Sanders. It looks like he feels like speaking, probably gloating, before his opponent makes it out to the ring.

AS: "So Cal Sanders finally grew a pair and decided to come out and face me in a match. I suppose I can understand why you are afraid. Sure you aren't too bad of a technician, but it eats you up inside that I am already better than you and this is only my first year."

The pair exchange at a glance and start to laugh before Austin speaks again.

AS: "Come on out, Cal. Time to see who the true master of this ring is."

Austin Smooth with Venus vs Cal Sanders

It was a long time coming and these two men do not disappoint in what turns out to be perhaps one of the best matches AAW has ever had. There is no high flying for the most part, but instead it is a technical masterpiece with both men showing a spectacle of chain wrestling combined with their mastery of the submission arts and mat wrestling. No one can seem to get much of the advantage and both men try to get the other to submit with little to no luck at all. When they try to go for pinfalls they are met with nothing but two counts. In fact both men are confused when the bell rings and a first in AAW occurs. The twenty minute time limit for non title/non main event matches was hit and the match is declared a draw to the disbelief of both men.

Sky King © vs Disturbed

It is probably best these two are the ones competing after that last match. They deliver and perhaps exceed the quality of the last one. Of course where the last one was a technical masterpiece, this is more a beautiful trainwreck of destruction as each man fights for the price hanging up high above them. Even a veteran like Sky King has trouble with the rather erratic acting Disturbed, but he has had much better luck than all the previous opponents. Each man finds interesting ways to use the ladder to try and incapacitate the other and Sky King sets the ladder over a downed Disturbed and delivers a Sky King Splash that seems to hurt him almost as much as his opponent. He still recovers and sets the ladder up. He begins to climb and seems like he will retain once again when a figure dashes out from the back.

http://i.imgur.com/UET4tPr.jpg

Sky King is unaware of the presence of Brimstone and Disturbed's partner in crime grabs the ladder and starts to tip it. Sky King tries to hold on, but as it is tilted he loses his grip and falls off. Not just off the ladder, but how it tilts he falls out of the ring and into several empty chairs as fans scream from the sickening crash of man hitting metal chairs and unpadded floor. A recovering Disturbed and Brimstone even seem to be in disbelief of what happened before they set the ladder back up and Disturbed reaches up. Sky King is not moving and in fact he is being checked on as Disturbed retrieves the title.

The new champion cradles the title as if it is a newborn baby as he and Brimstone celebrate and incoherently shout. Sky King finally seems to be moving enough to be helped to the back. It looks like his head was busted open in the landing too and his face is all bloodied.

....OH! Things we've discussed are becoming clearer now. Didn't expect Disturbed to take the belt at all, thought Sky King would drop it to Ramone or Smooth. Disturbed came straight out of nowhere for me.

Shoulda been my boy Fearless though. :p

You may have seen the future, but not ALL of the future. Muwahahaha!

Small Dividends for Big Bumps

http://i.imgur.com/mGogoVN.jpghttp://i.imgur.com/TXiLZpb.jpg

AL: "WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!?"

I had just finished being checked on by the doctor and despite the ringing still in my head I could tell that was an angry Art Lawson bursting through the door. I had a feeling this conversation would happen, but I was hoping it wouldn't be so soon after the match.

SK: "Just entertaining the fans, Art. Wanted them to remember the match."

AL: "You idiot! It was a ladder match. They were going to remember it no matter what without you trying to kill yourself. You did something I wouldn't ask a person to do in front of two thousand people let alone twenty-two!"

SK: "I'm okay. Doc said no concussion or broken bones. Just a bit of grogginess and bruises. I can sleep it off."

AL: "If you weren't hurting I would slap you right across the back of the head for that. So you got lucky once. You aren't exactly young anymore and even if you were I wouldn't have had you take that sort of bump. I don't want to lose a top guy and a friend just to make a small group of people remember a match."

SK: "Okay okay. No more big bumps. Just don't lay into Disturbed or Brim. I was the one that came up with it and they were reluctant to go through with it."

AL: "Already talked to them and I didn't. I just told them to come to me next time they get asked to do something dumb like that. Come here."

I started to get up and I was still a bit dizzy, but then Art actually....hugged me? One of those big hugs that could pop one's back into place and I think perhaps I got lifted off the ground a bit before Art let me go.

AL: "You're a good friend, kiddo. Don't want ya in a wheelchair. I'll drive you home since you don't need to be behind the wheel in that condition. Rest up and we'll talk in a few days after all the soreness is gone. Trust me. You are going to be sore as hell for about a week after that crap."

SK: "Yeah, I know. I hope I got plenty of ice at home."

Well it went better than I expected. I kind of deserved being yelled at. I guess even veterans make dumb decisions at times and I'm no different. Art is right though. I could have taken a major injury and where would that have gotten me? No paycheck and I might not be able to do what I love again. All to impress twenty-two people. Of all the talk about Brim and his safety issues it could have been me that caused the first injury in AAW.

Well done on the title change. Didn't see it coming, but still sensible. Disturbed wins on the "never lose your first defense" rule.

AAW All Action Canadian Championship

Disturbed vs El Tempest

Disturbed getting the belt was certainly a surprise and will be interesting to see where this will go. :) Anyway, this is his first defense and I see little reason to him drop the belt this soon even against someone who I rated as being higher on the ladders than him before the last show.

30 Minute Iron Man Match

Cal Sanders vs Austin Smooth

With the title change, Sanders suddenly look like better option to win this one (even though I´m pretty sure by now that you don´t have face/heel divide on).

Brimstone vs Buck Graham

Being associate with current All Action Canadian Championship helps Brimstone´s status as well. That said, he would hardly need that in order to look as a favorite against Graham.

Sky King vs Taylor Kidd

King gets a bounce back win.

Richochet Ramone vs Fearles Blue

I could see Blue getting the win here if you want to build him up for another one-shot challenge for the belt but Blue vs. Disturbed probably wouldn´t be that great of a match and loss here would hurt Ramone a bit in my eyes since he just lost to Drury as well so I still go with Ramone who has been stronger in my eyes so far.

Kick Ass Connection (Kirk Drury and Miller Fforde) vs Roger Monteiro and Rex Reeves

Nice to see that the tag division is slowly forming up, Drury and Fforde is certainly potential pairing who I could see doing well in tag team action.

Now THAT was unexpected. Pretty sure you caught most of your readers off-guard with that title change, but it was well booked and it actually makes sense, because Brimstone and Disturbed surely are two of your most interesting workers.

Buck Graham vs Brimstone

It isn't hard to tell who is going to win this one. Given the two workers this will also more than likely be the low point of the night as the fans are given a rather brief beating to watch. It is hard to call it a match because Buck Graham doesn't even get any offense in. Brimstone just destroys him and puts him away with an Ashes to Ashes.

Winner: Brimstone

Sky King vs Taylor Kidd

A bit odd to see Sky King so early in the card, but the former champ seems to have recovered from his spill without looking worse for wear. Of course having a month to recuperate helps. He seems to be all business too as he gives Kidd a lesson on wrestling. The veteran controls the majority of the match with Kidd getting some offense in here and there, but never enough to be a real threat of an upset. Eventually he succumbs to the Sky King Splash and the former champ gets back to his winning ways.

Ricochet Ramone vs Fearless Blue

This match is a bit more even compared to the last two. Ramone is caught off guard several times by the cagey Fearless Blue and almost suffers another loss several times. He has to resort to some underhanded tactics such as a poke to the eye to often get things going on offense. Blue does his best to fight back, but it seems tonight it is just not in the cards for him to win. He falls prey to the Ricochet Senton.

Ramone remains in the ring as Fearless Blue is helped out to the back. He is still a bit out of breath after his match and he regards the fans gathered in disdain.

RR: "I hear a lot of people calling me overrated or just lucky. I am far from those things. You all have seen me. I retired Tempest Appleby! I almost captured the AAW All Action Canadian championship! I am not weak! I AM NOT OVERRATED!"

He is seething at this point, showing more of a temper than usual.

RR: "I am going straight back up to the top. Kirk, you got lucky. LUCKY! When we meet again I will show I am the better man. And Disturbed? Enjoy that title for a bit. I will be coming after it real soon."

Rex Reeves and Roger Monteiro vs Kick Ass Connection

Kirk and Fforde look like they have promise as a team. They obviously need time to gel, but they are both talented in the ring and it probably helps Fforde has some experience working in a tag team from his time in MAW. Rex and Roger on the other hand know their place in the company and they do what is needed. It is a showcase mostly for the new team and to see how well the pair work out as partners. Drury picks up the win for his team by locking Rex Reeves into the Scorpion Deathlock while Fforde keeps Monteiro at bay.

Disturbed © vs El Tempest

Disturbed's antics seem not to effect El Tempest like all the other wrestlers he has faced so far. If anything it is El Tempest's antics that throw Disturbed off. The two masked men put on a good effort and Disturbed shows he should do just fine as champion and doesn't need gimmicks like a ladder matches to look good. For a title bout it looks a bit short, but it also might be for the fact the longer things drag out the more winded El Tempest looks. El Tempest puts up a valiant effort, but Brimstone soon comes out to distract and Disturbed manages to slip on the Total Psychotic Break in the middle of the ring which forces El Tempest to tap.

Disturbed and Brimstone are celebrating when Sky King comes out. He has a determined look on his face as he climbs in the ring and looks ready to fight if they come at him. Instead Brimstone and Disturbed watch and look curious just what the former champ has to say.

SK: "You might have that title and I might not get a rematch right away, but I do have a challenge for you. I want both of you next month. Let me find a partner and we'll duke it out. I always gave people the matches they want now give me the one I want."

Disturbed and Brimstone seem to discuss things over hushed whispers. Finally Disturbed speaks up after coming to a decision.

Disturbed: "She guides us now. I do not fear the fallen nor does he. She relishes in your defeat and wants to see it again. Bring the other sacrifice next month. We shall be here to claim you both for her."

Austin Smooth with Venus vs Cal Sanders

A fitting final match given the one they had last month and even if a title on the line there are certainly bragging rights to be had. It starts off slowly with both men feeling one another out before things start to pick up. A fluid bout of chain wrestling sees several reversals that wow the fans and neither man can seem to gain ground. Eventually Venus tries to get involved and in turn gets sent to the back. The commotion is enough for Smooth to get a low blow and roll up Cal to get a pinfall.

Pinfall: Austin Smooth (1-0)

Smooth tries to keep his momentum going, but can't seem to get another pinfall and further extend his lead. Cal fights back and several times comes close to getting a pin only for Smooth to escape at the last possible moment. Time ticks away and it looks like it will end with Austin as the victor when he lets himself get too cocky with about four minutes left and gets pinned with a surprise rollup from Cal.

Pinfall: Cal Sanders (1-1)

The two quicken the pace as the final minutes tick by. Neither can seem to get a victory and with time ticking down Cal catches Smooth off guard with a crossface chickenwing. Austin struggles and there is a bell! Cal lets go thinking he won, but the bell was because thirty minutes have gone by.

Sky King's Thoughts

A damn fine way to close out the year. I could honestly watch Smooth and Cal fight all day. The two have been entertaining in their two matches so far. Me and Art had argued if that match should have been the last one and he eventually agreed with me it would be hard to follow up those two with a title match that couldn't go near as long due to Tempests conditioning. Not that he and Disturbed would have been a horrible main event. I just don't think fans would be as invested in it if they went on after Smooth and Cal. The rest of the card was what it was. Kick Ass and Fforde I hope will eventually become a good team. Right now we got a few guys teaming together, but I think it is way too early to worry about a tag division or titles. It is just good to find people that gel well for when that time comes and we aren't trying to toss people together at the last minute. Some contracts are coming up in a few weeks and most will be renewed as we try to keep the roster consistent at least for another year.

AAW Roster Review 2014

Austin Smooth: Austin has been pushed pretty hard for a rookie and he hasn't disappointed. He is improving with each match and for his age his technical abilities are on par of a veteran like Cal Sanders. It will be interesting to see how far he can go and how good he will be once he gets a few more years under his belt.

Buck Graham: Buck was brought in because he was willing to work for cheap and be the guy that takes the pins. He was never stellar in the ring, but he at least was safe and knew how to sell which made him worth the price. He was on a single year contract and will not be renewed. Buck was a professional and was never a complainer. A shame he wasn't a slightly better work.

Brimstone: For all the stories about how dangerous he is, Brimstone has not injured a single person over the course of a year. Yes he needs a lot of work, but he might be the one that has improved the most through the first year. He was brought in for a one year contract, but given his improvement and fact he has done well in his role he has been given an extension.

Cal Sanders: There are very few that could match the work rate of Cal Sanders and he has been a good person to rely on when it comes to putting on a good match. It is no surprise most people ended up having their best match when facing him. Cal has a spot near the top for a long time and it would take something major for it to be taken away from him.

Fearless Blue: Many people would give someone like Fearless Blue a chance. He has been given one with AAW and has made the most of it. He is still a bit weak in a few areas, but he is a good person to have around backstage. He is a nice guy and it is a bit infectious. He was on a one year contract to gauge how well he would do and it has been extended. Much like Brimstone it is time to see if he will sink or swim.

Kirk Drury: Kirk was brought in because there was familiarity on what he can do due to his previous work in ACPW. He has been a good worker that has shown some steady improvement. If he can keep things up he can easily keep a spot near the top of the card and perhaps even being a champion one day.

Rex Reeves: A veteran brought in mostly to help make the younger guys look better while being competitive in his losses. He signed on knowing he wasn't going to be a focal point and has had no complaints about his position. If he was actually a few years younger he might have had a chance to climb upwards, but he is getting into his later years and has improved as much as he is going to.

Ricochet Ramone: Ramone is much the same deal as Kirk Drury. A guy brought in because he was a known quantity and had enough talent to help a fledgling company. He has had some ups and downs, but his improvement as well as some good performances with some of the upper card shows he has a good future with the company.

Rob Perkins: Rob has been a good ref that has been clearly getting better now that he is getting regular work. He was brought in due to being well versed in many different languages as well as being a decent ref. There is no doubt he will be the main referee for AAW for the long haul.

Roger Monteiro: Roger has been the disappointment out of the younger crop of people brought in. He wasn't expected to blow people away, but he just feels like he is stuck in cruise control. He hasn't shown much improvement and just doesn't seem to connect with the crowd. The result is guys like Brimstone and Fearless Blue passing him by while he toils in the lower reaches. Even so he is getting valuable experience which is more than he was getting before he was hired.

Taylor Kidd: If anyone has bad luck it would be Taylor Kidd. He just seems to have not been able to work well with a few members of the roster and the result is him slipping down the card due to hesitation of putting him in bigger matches. Hopefully he will get better luck over the next year and can bounce back.

Tempest Appleby/El Tempest: Appleby has been a good sport and has had fun with what might be his last run. He will be forty in February so chances of catching on elsewhere are slim. He has been a good veteran presence and enjoys playing the El Tempest character. A deserving man to be the first King of High Fliers and while not a top guy, he is deserving of a spot near the upper reaches of the card. He is going on a year to year basis and has decided he feels good enough to go one more year.

Venus: She was hired for one thing and that was to look good. It is something she does well and she works well as Smooth's valet. It wasn't sure how well things would go over so she was only signed for a year, but since she has been no problems and works cheap she has been brought on for longer.

Disturbed: He came in later on in the year and he has perhaps made the biggest splash being the one to unseat Sky King and become the champ. He has a good character and has more than enough talent to put on good title matches as long as he holds the belt. He has big shoes to fill being champ after Sky King, but there is plenty of faith he can do it.

Miller Fforde: Fforde may not look like much, but he was trained by Rip Chord and it shows in the ring. He is still finding his footing, but is tag team with Kirk Drury will only help him and it looks like he should have a nice, long career in AAW if he wants it.

Five contracts were up and all but one were renewed. The roster remains intact and consistency is a key to keep growing. There might be a bit more of a turnover at the end of next year, but for now many guys just have another year to find their spot. With Buck Graham leaving the search for a replacement has started.

SK: "So did Buck say anything once you said you weren't giving him a new contract?"

AL: "He thanked me for a chance and admitted he is thinking about retirement anyways. I think he was just happy to do what he loves one more time even if he was always looking at the lights."

The past week had mostly been renewing contracts and idly working on the first show of the new year. Austin and Cal have been doing well so it is no surprise their big third match is what we were building around. It is weird to think that a year has already passed and we are still chugging along. I even got an answer out of art saying we did make profit over the course of the year even though he didn't say how much.

SK: "Any thoughts on a replacement? I looked at some of the people you were considering. Some interesting young guys that haven't really proven themselves yet."

AL: "Yeah, but I already got someone. Kind of came up at the last moment."

I had to raise a brow at that. Usually Art comes off as a guy that thinks things through before making a decision. This almost sounds like a knee jerk signing since as of yesterday he was still unsure who he was going to go with.

SK: "Last moment? I know you were pretty sold on that Mercutio guy. Is that who you got?"

Al only smiled. It was a mirthful one that made it look as if he may have just pulled off a big coup. Nah, he has to just be messing with me. Still I have to admit I am curious.

AL: "Don't believe me? Here, meet your tag team partner for the next show."

That is when he brought a picture up on his phone. My eyes went wide and I really had a hard time believing it. Can we even afford this guy? Given the grin on Al's face is only growing bigger I can assume what is answer would be if I asked that.

SK: "You have to be kidding me. You got-"

AL: That I did. Now are you ready to stop looking like a open mouthed fool and help me finish putting together primary matches?"

I really love Art. That guy seems to have his heart in the right place and you're showing that perfectly.

Art's render just looks like a guy that did a lot of things through his career as a wrestler he regrets and he doesn't want people repeating it. I am glad you like his portrayal and I have fun writing his stuff.

Smooth will get his chance eventually. Sanders is a good chaser for the title while Disturbed holds it.

Mr. Squiggles should help Sky King win.

Fearless Blue vs Rex Reeves

Can't say Buck Sucks anymore... Reeves isn't particularly better.

Roger Monteiro vs Ricochet Ramone

Surprised Montiero stuck around through the season

Kirk Drury vs El Tempest

Ramone may get some revenge here. Interesting matchup.

Taylor Kidd vs Miller Fforde

I got no reason. Kidd hasn't shown me a reason to pick him to win ever though.
