The Road to Glory Challenge

Recommended Posts

So I decided to start over, as I was unable to get a job after three years of simming. I have done much better this time around so far. I managed to meet my owner goals, one being that I have $10,000 in the bank by the end of year two. It was actually difficult to reach while running shows, so I took the last three months of the year off and reached the goal thanks to sponsorship money.

My stats started the same as my first image - this is now my characters stats after two years in game:

Date: January 1999

Company Details

Size: Local

Funds: 12,141

Owner: Red Falcon

MWA Canadian Champion: Tim Westybrook

Main Eventers: Tim Westybrook, Zeus Maxmillion, and Tom Gillmore

Upper Midcarders: Jeremiah Grey, Tayler Morton, Whippy the Clown

Midcarders: Shane Nelson, Sky King, The Black Knight

Best Match for my Character: Tom Gillmore vs. Jeremiah Grey - (C-)

EDIT: I forgot to add my rolls:

1st Year: 43. "Internet Sensation" One of your wrestlers (random roll from the list) has become an internet video hit due to a pirate recording of his last match. +2 pop for your company in every area that you already have popularity in and +10 pop for the wrestler in all areas. [Randomly selected Whippy The Clown (which seems fitting)]

2nd Year: 5. "Lean On Me" Gain Strong Friendship with random wrestler in your promotion. -15 to both your character's and the random wrestler's Bad Personal Extras (Smoking, Drinking etc), and set to Reformed. [Randomly selected Sky King]

Officially joining an RTG Challenge for the first time. Discovered TEW 2013 back in January. Didn't know I was missing a booking simulator from my life until I found it. Bankrupted my starting company four times so far. This is attempt #5, waited about 17 months before starting this post to make sure I could hopefully keep this running.

These are Big Smoke's starting stats:

http://i.imgur.com/ihxAlLE.jpg

This was Saskatchewan Wrestling Association's starting Product (formerly Southern Wrestling Association, switched to Canada and kept the logo):

http://i.imgur.com/QvNjJ9V.jpg

http://i.imgur.com/JrP7Rj5.jpg

And these are Big Smoke's stats, current as of 5-17 in-game:

http://i.imgur.com/gQDtGJO.jpg

Now for the basic rundown:

Started SWA, hired 98% Canadian workers. Got Marvin Earnest as my owner, so free announcer. Yay? Immediately went into debt, running three shows per month, all in week one. SWA Redesign, SWA Rebuild, SWA Reclaim. Clever, eh? Economy was like C and Rising, Industry was B and Falling. I was able to rush to Small and, luckily for me, Yoshifusa Maeda died, and I finally had a Booker Application accepted for BCG (Regional). This was mid-late April, I believe. BHOTWG made short work of my roster, signing all of our stars to Writtens, which is apparently the norm. Big Smoke had his best match in BCG, though:

Big Smoke (Black Canvas Grappling - Regional)

Game Date: May 2017

Best UC Match so far: B- : Sofu Ozawa & American Patriot def. Big Smoke & Rokuemon Matsushita (June 2016)

We had the Tsunami kill the economy/industry shortly after I got there, so all of the good stuff quickly dissipated. It was also my first time running a touring/Japanese company, but I really wanted to jump ship before I inevitably bankrupted them. In my previous four saves, I applied for every booking position just to see if I could get them. I never could.

So there we are, about 250k in the bank, losing 1-2k/month. I'm enjoying it, but panicking, so when ELPF (Local) is founded and looking for a Booker, I jumped on it. I'm assuming downgrading two levels isn't against the RTG rules, but feel free to let me know if I'm wrong. This was my first time running a European company as well, and I had to hire a roster again. The new year came around, and I rolled:

29. “So, Tell Me About Your Mother…”You have devoted your holiday season to training in the ring +5 to your Psychology skill.

I just recently made it to Small, and Production Values are coming into play. I'm trying to balance maintaining my barely 11 popularity against how many shows/workers I can run with Economy C and Falling, and Industry C and Rising.

If anyone has any tips and/or feedback, I'd love to hear it. Looking forward to being a part of RTG for a long time to come. (I just spent an hour typing up a post instead of actually playing. Go figure.)

EDIT: Worker Deaths seem notable, so I'll include those in updates as well. Here's what we have so far:

Uppercut Bailey, struck by lightning, twice, in quick succession, 47 years old

Yoshifusa Maeda, age 62

Whippy the Clown, age 41

SUKI, gardening accident, age 30

Trehawke Phillips, age 42

Seiko Nanami, age 47

Dinny Rantall, age 58

Shunko Nakada, exploded, age 56

Frenchie Marcel, age 75

Jean-Pierre Baptiste, age 72

Jackson Andrews, age 76

Losing 1-2k/month is nothing for BCG - even if it's a week then its still nothing. Did you mean 100-200k? Because then ouch! I'm playing BCG and after the tsunamai losing 80k/month seems the order of the day. I'm having to move away from the strict touring concept. On the plus side it should give you plenty of shows to improve your skills in. I'd be imterested in seeing your product and roster for Europe.

<p>No, it was just 1-2k per month. I can occasionally overreact a bit <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

<p>Since my dynasty has been posted through my first year I can post here on my progress.</p><p> </p><p>

I'm running a young woman who is in charge of a head T&A all women's wrestling promotion running in the Mid Atlantic. The product is popularity over performance, but the only requirement is for one storytelling event per show. Risqué is medium though so eye candy matches tend to do rather well.</p><p> </p><p>

After 1 year I had $2500 in the bank and was at 9.3% popularity. I did this by running 1 event per month, but had a very good (B+ or higher) wrestling industry for several months, which is how my popularity is so high after only 12 events.</p><p> </p><p>

Of course not many events did lessen the improvement my wrestler had so in 1 year and 12 events I've only gone from this</p><p>

to this (pending adding 5 to Flash as my first year roll was a 25, I took the screenshot before adding in the points.)</p><p>

Finished Year Two. Updated stats:

http://i.imgur.com/Dg5dPGi.jpg

My Yearly Roll was another 29. “So, Tell Me About Your Mother…”You have devoted your holiday season to training in the ring +5 to your Psychology skill.

My original promotion, SWA, went bankrupt in June 2017. At least I wasn't at the helm :D

Still Small, still losing money monthly. Economy is D and falling, Industry is C and falling. 223k in the bank, currently ranked 40th. After 13 defenses, The Yeti took the World Title from me and I slid down to midcard.

Only one worker death since the last update.

Juzo Komagata, fell from a 20th story window, 21.

Exciting things going down in Mexico in the year 2000. WAM have hit regional are are regularly putting out C+/B- shows, with a best show rating of B. Nico Lopez has been my figurehead since the start and has been champion for most of the game... Chimera (a random genned worker I renamed), with his excellent entertainment skills (in the 90s I think) has been killling it with promos and his in-ring performance has been going from strength to strength. He took the January tournament title El Rey de la Ringo and the following month he won the main title from Nico, having softened hi up with a piledriver the week before then taking advantage of that injury in the title match... and then doing it again in his victory celebration. That kayfabe injury led into the tag title tournament to crown our first champions... it was meant to be Tijuana Vampire and Del Muerto but Del Muerto picked up an injury in the first round match, so he was replaced by Mexican Ghoul who I had been considering bringing in later anyway. Ghoul/Vampire beat Nico and his buddy Arana Zafiro Jr (who has been kinda meh, but is a WAM original) in the final with Nico's injury being the deciding factor... Nico was meant to be getting his rematch for the singles gold but picked up an injury and will be out for just over 2 months...

Figrehead down, we go to Regional with our charismatic chmpion. Nico has been gifting us the regional battles until now, but it's time to see what the rest of the boys can do in the main event. I've played with others there with my smaller weekly shows and we've been bringing in some talent to boost that with Rafael Ruiz and Mateo Iglesias. The jump to regional we've put in bids for some of Mexico's biggest talents and stars. Soul Taker (new boss of the death themed stable), El Critico (potential tag partner for myself to boost my skills) and the biggest star in Mexico by a long way, the legendary... Luis Montero.

Things are getting good. :D

Darin Flynn must be killing it with that product setting. He's a favourite of mine since he made it to the Hall of Immortals in a 2010 game I had. Isn't the Ab Snowman terrible for a performance Product though?

Yeah, Flynn was primed to be a perennial all-star in ELPF, until 21CW decided to sign him to a Written contract :(

The Snowman is actually on par with everyone else, as far as average match rating goes. Had a long stint as World Champion.

End of Year Three, and I posted small profits in September and November, so we're steadily getting there. If I quit using Auto Booker so much and kept my cards at 3 segments, I'd probably be turning a monthly profit. Failed a critical "Don't fall below x in the company rankings" goal and it sunk my approval rating to Low.

Yearly roll got me 22. “Link To The Past” You have devoted your holiday season to training in the ring +5 to your Chain Wrestling skill. Always nice to improve my technical skills. Stats are now:

http://i.imgur.com/Gvt59U9.jpg

And for worker deaths, we've got:

Fumihiko Uno, age 63

BOSS Kotoku, age 47

Crippler Ray Kingman, age 71

Larry Vessey, age 59

Dick The Devastator, age 73

Ed Monton, age 56

Munenori Umari, exploded, 42.

Year Four Goals:

Get to Regional and snag a PPV deal for my events?

Jump ship again?

It's anyone's guess.

Anything I should be aware of now?</div></blockquote><p> </p><p> As Dr. Hook said the 4 production values will now start to be compared to any other "small" sized company in the same country as you. If you are US based that means NYCW, GSW, IPW usually, and sometimes PSW and MAW if they are still open. (they seem to close in 2017 quite often.) I would recommend not trying to match GSW's level right away. They have levels that as insanely high for a small promotion.</p><p> </p><p> But yes, you will be penalized. It seems to be about 2 grades if you can make it so you only have 2 production values not at the top. (from D+ to D-, or C to D+, etc.)</p><p> </p><p> Also since you have overness above 11.0% in one region you are now eligible to get dragged into regional battles. This means if 3 or more small or regional sized companies put on a show in the region the quality of the shows will be compared. The one with the best show for the month suffers no penalty. After that you lose popularity based on your position. Second place suffers a drop of about 0.2%, 3rd usually sees a drop right around 0.5%. Again this only happens if there are 3 or more small or regional sized companies. You'll get a mail at the end of the month if you are in one.</p><p> </p><p> Beyond that you just have to keep putting together the best shows possible and slowly building your roster. Other than that there isn't much of a difference between local and small. (except that at small you can get your ticket sales to cover show costs, something that really doesn't happen at local sized.)</p><p> </p><p> At regional you might be able to look for a TV station to show your events. It depends on your company's overness.</p><p> </p><p> Cult is the big jump, costs go up a lot and you can finally sign workers to written contracts. This can often kill an unprepared company.</p><p> </p><p> National/International/Global are all relatively similar with the biggest changes being how you want to handle TV and adding the ability to hire workers globally.</p>
