WPL, January 1 2019

* Our third year of operations was the first to see major changes in the roster. American Elemental II and Power Girl were the first new arrivals, both agreeing to work in the $350 range when I was desperate for anyone who'd work for less than $500. Newgens Austin Ambrose (using one of the Hillbillies' pics) and Clyde Cope (Nathan Coleman) followed, along with fellow youngsters Texas Hangman, Seth Whitehead and Dustin Deuce, and all of these guys work for $220 or less - mostly because they don't perform to a standard that deserves better. WPL now has 13 wrestlers on its books...

* ...for a time, as Lily Snyder is set to walk in January. A good performer with a D average this year, Snyder was the first WPL champion (even if she did drop the belt to me in her first defence). A bad run of form in 18/19 soured her mood backstage, however, and while she didn't let it affect her work she cause some issues and isn't currently worth her position as top earner.

* Cobra enjoyed a 1 year run with the title, but generally didn't deliver the top-tier matches a champion needs. WPL's best are much of a muchness, and after Claire Winters' similarly OK run last year, I'm moved the belt onto, well, me.

* Which may not have been the best choice, as Cobra put in his best two performances on the night he lost the belt. Shame the decision had already been made at that point.

* And really, we could have done worse than give AmEl2 a run with the belt, as he's been outstanding since arriving in WPL. A future star is getting a good grounding with us, or so we'll claim when he's headlining in Japan.

* Snyder's replacement will be Logan Wolfsbaine, who's been getting rave reviews on the, uh, internet. Yeah, that's it... <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/rolleyes.png.4b097f4fbbe99ce5bcd5efbc1b773ed6.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

* And I'm an idiot, because I left 4 workers off our season finale show, so now they're all upset and I've just thrown $800 down a hole in bonuses. Annoying <img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Still... Clear the air talks at the next show?

* WPL are up to 7.5% in the Mid South. That's up about 3% on last year.

* Show ratings are up too; 2017 was a mix of E+/D-, while 2018 has been D/D+, even with the new guys doing their/the jobs.

* As for me:

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/jamescasey_photos/jcskills2019.jpg

Anywhere from +4 to +6 in the weaker top row stats, +5 to +9 in most performance (altough +2 in Psychology) and +2 or so on on average for the entertainment section. Not bad, not great, but my opponents are... average at best, so I can't expect miracles.

For my roll (I could do with a popularity boost, or an improvement to a top row skill)...

18. "Fists of Fury" You have devoted your holiday season to training in the ring +5 to your Brawling skill

...I should have specified "an improvement to a top row skill other than brawling", huh? <img alt=";)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/wink.png.686f06e511ee1fbf6bdc7d82f6831e53.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Onward to 2019, and if I recall correctly, the arrival of a certain future worker...

After failing at two different saves(hit by the music fine in the first, just booked terribly in the second) and reading this thread incredulously, I decided to start a RtG game, and by golly, I'm in May and it's actually going well! I've got Logan Wolfesbane as my champ and he's doing a decent job, and I'm actually one month away from turning a profit, which is shockingly quick compared to my last game saves.

This is my wrestler:

And this is my first promotion:

Interesting wrestler.

*Sigh* another performance based RtG promotion. Those are easy compared to a popularity based one. ;)

But I hope you have fun, that's the most important part. :)

I had last played back in 2012 when TEW 2010 was the latest and sponsorships worked much differently.

Once I figured it out I've had a lot more luck. I have one RTG game with a integrated performance=popularity product that I've run through Feb 2019. It's been interesting and I learned quite a bit about the new production values. I also watched the number of AI run companies that just don't make it. They tend to be far too aggressive spending on high production values.

My main game is a RtG Women's Promotion based in the Mid Atlantic region. (popularity rated over performance) I'm publishing a dynasty on this one, but the dynasty only shows my first 2 events. In the game I just finished my one match for Aug 2017. I'm not wealthy (just $13,000 at the start of August.), but the company does make money and I've been winning the regional battles with PSW and MAW. Those will end as soon as MAW is shut down. They are $80,000 in debt and losing about $5,000 per month so its only a question of when now.

For your women's promotion, are you using Claire Winters at all? I found her useful as hell in my previous saves, and the only reason I haven't hired her for my women's division is because I dpn't want to start the division proper until I'm making a bit of cash

EDIT: nevermind, reading your diary now and got my answer lol Winters is the best in my book.

Cody Lane and GDW continued their upward trajectory in 2021. Ending the year with a nearly sold out show in The Sweat Box and $75,000 in the bank, the company has reached impressive heights as the 25th ranked company in the world. Admittedly, many promotions have closed their doors since GDW came on the scene, but it's impressive nonetheless.

Nick Booth continued his impressive title reign through most of the year, losing it the vengeful angel known only as Scythe come August. Scythe was able to hold the belt until December, when he lost the belt in a fatal fourway match to Cody Lane himself. With that win, Lane became the first ever two-time champion in GDW, and Scythe departed the company on an exclusive PPA deal with GSW, who are just total jerks when it comes to contracts.

Intent on keeping the belt, Lane buckled down over the holiday season and literally tightened up his submission game.

My RTG game that I'm running as a dynasty has finally reached the end of 2017, so I'm 2 years in. Got luck and rolled a 22, which raised my Chain Wrestling. (its still only an E+, but its an improvement.)

The dynasty posts are only up to March of 2016, so I don't want to put much more here. I'll reveal it all in the dynasty later. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

Is there a trick to getting a job with a larger company?

Over the coarse of 4 years, I have applied for over 5 different small and regional companies, but have not been able to get a job with a different promotion. I even made a backup and opened all the promotions, but still turned down for everyone of them.

So, has anyone had any luck?

Is there anything to do in order to increase the chances?

This determines if a company will be interested in accepting your application.

You can find it by going to your office. There are the four buttons in a row. E-mail, Decisions, User detail, and User Diary. Click on the user detail and your reputation should be in the top right. The ? for it is clear.

"Your reputation rises and falls based on your performance; good cards and rising in size will boost it, for example. Your reputation is primarily used in job hunting; the bigger the company, the higher your reputation will need to be to get hired."

So put on good shows and keep growing your company and eventually other companies will show interest.

At what point do you come into competition with other companies? I'm still at Local and have had a couple of shows where I've been hit for lower production etc. standards.

Is it just because L-Ring have opened and are Local as well? They're the only rivals listed. I've raised Music and they seem to have dropped their standards elsewhere so I'm currently ahead of them, but I thought this didn't kick in until Regional for some reason.

That may explain why you're being hit for production standards

So as some of you who frequent the TEW irc chat may know, my user character Tea Baggins been fighting quite the battle lately in the "lite" version of Road To Glory against incompetent ownership, an owner who won't drop the main title belt, some horrendous talent brought in to be bloodied up for cheap, the financial ways of the world in regards to running a not Regional indy, and even chemistry. Nonetheless, I'm persevering and on the road to making the first dollar of profit my starting company has ever turned.

I decided to run 4 shows a month and gamble on excellent booking to overcome the financial hurdles, but I made a couple suboptimal decisions on the business end over who to hire and how many to hire and ended up about 250K in the hole after Year 1. I did get the roll to get either 56 grand or +5 Prestige, although really the bigger financial boost comes form the fact that I'm Regional now and can run a show and turn profit from the ticket sales to the tune of 10-15K a show, and that numbers gonna continue to rise, hopefully. A few months of 40K profit and I'll be out of the hole. Overall though, I don't feel any close ties to my original fed, especially after owner Honest Frank gutted the original product because hes a dick, and I can bide my time for a job opening if things go south because my character got a good destiny roll. YEPW opened in Australia but the booking position went to one of those APW main eventer guys.

If I were to do this over again I'd start with Arnold Westberry as owner since hes a Road Agent and has no fed preferences, thus helping me on two fronts. Honest Frank's product is so bad it doesn't even have Key Feature in anything (Heavy Cult/Risque/Modern/Daredevil, Medium Mainstream). Nonetheless I'm putting on C grade shows and have some solid angles and talent. Right now my UC is doing C+ ratings with Logan Wolfsbaine, whos coming along tremendously, and we should be in line to do C+ shows in the next couple months.

Heres my UC's progress after four shows a month and two promos per show. Quite the progress, if I do say so myself.

WPL, January 1 2020

* A lot of turnover this year, not all of it deliberate. Did I miss the e-mails about Joanna Silver and Cobra's contracts? Did they not show up? Did I deliberately ignore them to jettison workers with little in-ring talent and no momentum? Who knows?

* One departure was wholly deliberate, as regen Delores Roy gets canned for hard drug use after just three months in the company, with two incidents at her first two shows and wrestling wasted at the third. Good show, Delores.

* We had our first talent raid, as newgen Dustin Deuce got filched by RIPW on a development deal - right after our disovery of our first tag team chemistry in his team with American Elemental II.

* David Stone debuted in March, was signed to us immediately and made his debut at the first available show... losing in a tag match to the WPL super team of AmEl2 and I. Names mean nothing in WPL, eh? Unlike in my 2013 RTG game, Stone didn't get signed straight to NOTBPW - indeed, they don't seem to be aware he exists. Probably they're happy for him to get seasoned for a couple of years.

* http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/jamescasey_photos/small.jpg

Small! Coming in September off the back of a C rated show, our rise confirmed our position as the hottest little indy around... Until people compared us to IPW, L-Ring and RIPW, our main competition, and slapping a good 2 grades off our shows because we're so very . RIPW are happy spending the SWF's money, clearly, as they're at least 2 steps above us in every production category. It's going to be a slow grind up the ranks to earn enough money to offset that advantage - and the penalties aren't helping our regional battle with QAW and CZCW either. As of 1/1/20, we're at 11.8% in the Mid South, so not sinking, but not moving massively quickly either.

* We made it to Small on the back of my good/very good main events, although AmEl2 and Claire Winters delivered further down the card as well. We hit a couple of B- matches with myself and Winters brawling wildly - a match type that seems to suit my 75 brawling, oddly...

* In fact, AmEl2 did so well this year, he took the WPL title off me in December. Will 2020 be the year of the legacy, with him, Stone and Logan Wolfsbaine all on the roster?

* As for me:

http://i134.photobucket.com/albums/q81/jamescasey_photos/jcskills2020.jpg

+5 across the top row (my last roll was +5 for brawling, so +2 there). Performance up 6-10 points, although Psychology is just creeping up at about 2 points per year right now. My entertainment skills are up 4-5 points. My reputation has leapt up 15 points, which included a 10 point boost the month I got my first B- match - not sure if that's related or not?

My roll for this year is 3. "Trusted Companion" You gain the Loyalty of one of your roster (random roll from the list of your current roster).

We roll again and get 7 - David Stone! I doubt it'll keep him in WPL once his family gets their act in order, but it's welcome nonetheless.

Onwards to 2020, and getting slapped around by every company with cash in the whole country... Which'd be all of them <img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

So I decided to try this. I'll update as I come to the end of every year of play.

I also started a company in the Maritimes (Canada), the Maritime Wrestling Alliance. I'm also using the CV97 mod. I'm thinking this is going to be fun.

@James Casey, what skin is that? It looks quite cool.

I forgot to do a proper report after the first year of my RtG Lite game, so this is largely from memory.

Rock City Wrestling, owned by Honest Frank is primarily a Lucha promotion, with a considerable dose mainstream and daredevil hijinks thrown in. The first year, Honest Frank and Tyrone Gray held the champion's belt for most of the year, with Johnny Needham squeezing in for a brief title hold in between. My user character stands ready to take over, but he can wait a bit longer.

The company is touring, doing a weekly show for three months in the spring, and another three months in the fall. Popularity has grown, but the attendance numbers have not reflected that increase in pop. The whole time, we've attracted very small crowds. The last show of the year had something like 30 paying fans in attendance, at a 10 popularity. Still, at New Year we were close to taking the step up to being a "small" company rather than a local, and the economy looks...not terrible. The sponsors have been kind to us.

For my random roll, I got a Chance Encounter, gaining a strong friendship with an unemployed wrestler. There were so many to choose from, but the spot monkey Wild Child seemed like he would fit into our product, and be someone we could realistically afford. He has since been signed to a ppa, with no cover for travel expenses...

At the end of year 2 I need to be among the top 40 ranked companies in the world, and have no debt. I think both should be achievable as long as I don't find some way to spend way too much money.

Probably not the best idea to be based in Hawaii, but it will be a tale to tell to my kids!

Most people who post about this appear to try to set up in the USA, but I've seen RTG posts for every region except Europe.

You can be any size you want and any wrestling style. I would recommend you try to fit those to the product of your first promotion.
