The Road to Glory Challenge

Recommended Posts

Add a contract between your selected owner and your company. Save it. Then go to your company again and edit the power structure. Select your desired owner from the drop down and save.

Cheers, I'll remember that for next time. :)

In this save, my company has now been taken over by CEO Alysian Scottsfield. He's a fine road agent, but other than that, I don't know what he plans for the company really. The goals he has set for the next two years look extremely easy. Improve our popularity in Canada (from 0), and improve our company ranking (from #40). Additionally, no signing of wrestlers with less than 35 Charisma, Athletic Ability or Resilience.

Oh, I didn't mention, but I'm playing a Lite variation of the Road to Glory challenge. I just can't handle letter grades, so it's all numbers here.

For the most part you get a decent owner if you don't set one.

That second critical goal might burn you. Its very uncommon to go through the first 2 years without at least 2 new companies forming and they all tend to be ranked higher than a local company. I've ended up #42 for a while when that happens.

At the risk of dragging this discussion past its best before date, I kind of figured the editor would be involved, but I can't find a section where I can set the ownership, so how would it be done?

Now it's mostly an academic question as I've set up my company and my character:

0022f2682641655dbf883df0a1749ebd.jpg

One day in, and we're already turning a profit. :D

For some reason I decided it was logical that someone in Windsor Ontario would try to leech off the reputation of Detroit when branding their wrestling promotion, so the company became Rock City Wrestling. It made sense at the time...

Yuck another performance based promotion. :p

Not that they are necessarily bad, but I like to have a real challenge and put the rules so popularity matters more. ;)

<p><strong><span style="font-size:14px;">End of Year 2022</span></strong></p><p> </p><p>

Big gap as I got a bit burned out on this and started a new save game. However I was drawn back in and we're well on our way to National. Barring disasters we should get there around June 2023. Dunno what happened, if there was a patch or something, but our top match grades soared to A* territory midway through the year. Dunno if the game looks at the popularity in the whole of the US rather than just the one region as that would explain it - thanks to our TV deal with OnDem. </p><p> </p><p>

The new problem is that it is literally impossible for me to renew a contract with any worker, as we are always outbid by USPW, TCW, SWF or CGC (of all people). It hasn't been too bad yet (the biggest guy we lost was<strong> Kid San Juan </strong>who was tag champion with Island Boy Apollo). But the coming year I've got most of my main event coming up for renewal. I can't see how we can possibly keep National status if most of our star quality guys sod off elsewhere just as we turn national. </p><p> </p><p>

On the plus side we were the promotion of the year (although not the most improved promotion bizarrely enough) and we had the show of the year (a 100 in December). We also have the young wrestler of the year in the locker-room cancer regen <strong>Kotaro Fukumitsu</strong>. With a name like that and 90 star quality I have to hold onto him even though he is perfectly capable of turning an entire locker room against someone he dislikes (Ray Snow was the unlucky victim recently - I had to cut him). </p><p> </p><p>

Well I should be easily able to get an A* match from my guy once we hit national but his stamina means that he's become the expert of the slow-build 20 minute match. My position as figurehead has been getting us +55% merchandising but that position is challenged by <strong>Captain Wrestling II </strong> (sacked by RAW for racist comment) and <strong>Haranobu Kobayashi</strong> (PGHW folded then he broke his neck working at WEXV and was out for a year) so I'm down to 45% now. </p><p> </p><p>

From having no-one of the popularity list last year we now have a flock of people. </p><p> </p><p>

<strong><strong>Garry the Entertainer</strong></strong><strong> </strong>(or Garry Walker as I call him) is a surprise appearance - thanks to the feelgood story of our last show, when he and <strong>Hawkeye Calhoun</strong> defeated <strong>Xavi Ferrara/Ernest Youngman </strong>in a tag title unification match in a cage. And the thing is that they outperformed them in the ring (mostly due to chemistry and experience, but still). </p><p> </p><p>

<strong>King of New York (ME)</strong>: Shooter Sean Dealey - his contract runs though the year so he's always going to be main eventing and in the mix. </p><p>

<strong>Pennsylvania Title (Midcard)</strong>: El Serpiente - beat Captain Wrestling II who is main event bound. </p><p>

<strong>Unified Tag Title</strong> Garry Walker/Hawkeye Calhoun (Game for a Laugh - geddit! <img alt=":o" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/redface.png.900245280682ef18c5d82399a93c5827.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />)</p><p>

<strong>Duke of the Bronx (Tournament):</strong> Felipe Callabero (in "operation get some star quality into the main event"). </p><p> </p><p>

<p>So attempt number 3 is the key...</p><p> </p><p>

Not only are we still going strong but i have managed to survive a second full year, as well as beating the Owner goal of reach 10,000 by January 2018.</p><p> </p><p>

The Finances sit at 12.954. Our pop is 13.3.. So yes we have hit Small. We went Small after Novembers show and boy was i not ready for what comes with that, so we have to have 16 Wrestlers on the Roster - So i need to Hire 8 more. Production has to go up in many areas - We cannot afford this, i'm putting everything up bar 'Live Event Experience' the extra 1,000 per show on top of all the other rises is just too much ... For now. I have hired an Announcer (Ian Rosa) and Simona Cox will go on Colour.</p><p> </p><p>

We had four different Champions last year with Khloe beating me for the belt to sort of put an end to me facing Women storyline, she dropped the belt back to me though a Month later in March. Colin Picalo went through my entire stable beating Bat Cooper, Laurel Wreath and Annihilus to earn his last ever shot and finally beat me for the belt in October. Before dropping it to Annihilus in December because i will not be renewing Picalos contract (which is up in January, he wants too much of a rise).</p><p> </p><p>

In out of ring news Sharif and me still have issues, Kitty Katz had a few months off after getting pregnant (i have now hired her partner Leighton Buzzard). Kourtney handed her notice in because she couldn't work for us anymore... All her fault she kept on causing issues. Oh yes and Sharif also got refused a full payrise (wanted an extra 400) i gave him 25% which didn't please him at all so he may be next out.</p><p> </p><p>

Here's my stats...</p><p> </p><p>

.. And may end of year roll is....</p><p> </p><p>

36. “They Love Me… They Hate Me… They Love Me… They Hate Me…” You have gotten better at making the fans cheer for you or boo you. You have 20 points in total to add to your scores at playing a babyface or a heel.</p><p> </p><p>

Bit boring ... I guess i'll put all 20 into playing a Face just incase i want to turn at some point, maybe i'll build to that and become the Figurehead.</p><p> </p><p>

Well, not if the economy is D or worse. You just don't get the sponsor money to afford the worker costs that build up over multiple shows.</p><p> </p><p> In both of the games I've run, when I first hit small my sponsor money per month was about $3,000 after the economy adjustment kicked in. In one game I went 7 months where I never made more than $400 and sometimes lost up to $200 while slowly progressing with D- rated shows. (and no regional battle.)</p><p> </p><p> My current game (which I am tracking with a dynasty in the 2016 Dynasties file on this form) I'm at May 1, 2017 (playing, the dynasty is only posted through Feb 2016) and just started getting into regional battles with MAW and PSW. My one hope is that one of those 2 companies doesn't survive to year end as both are in debt. I can possibly beat them occasionally, but my company will never consistently beat both of them on show quality. And as I just hit 11.3% popularity (technically I'm not small yet, due to the importance of the Mid Atlantic Region) my expected sponsor money is $4,500, but the D- economy means I get $3,200 and less than $1000 in profit after paying my owner and the roster of 11 workers. I even need to find 6 more soon if I don't get a manager or 2.</p>

SNIP

My strategy, starting in the Great Lakes (so I wound up in regional battles with NYCW and PSW as soon as I hit small also) was to run weekly shows from the beginning. My economy was around C for most of the time I think but industry was below D for the first 18 months.

My owner was the road agent and then, of course, I focused on using the cheapest workers available--and as few of them as possible on each show. The exception was Wolfsbaine, who main evented every week.

I hit Small by late summer/early fall and entered the regional battles. I lost but putting on multiple shows at least allowed me to continue with a net gain in popularity and the subsequent attendance increases.

By December I started beating out NYCW to get second in the battles and by January was turning a profit. At this point I may have actually increased production values on the two that don't have "per-show" costs (Music and Video, I think?) as it's the most cost effective. I finished the 18 month window with over $10k in the bank and started beating PSW for first shortly after that.

I still strongly believe that weekly shows are the best way to complete the challenge. Even at large Small (excuse the oxymoron), the profit from attendance outweighs the profit from sponsors.

I agree that its probably the quickest way in game time, but it makes little difference in playing time. In fact when the industry is 25- you're spending time booking shows that get you minimal pop increase. (I can't get onboard with the auto-booker).

Isn't there a problem with repetitive booking with 4 shows a month at the start? I don't remember having it but I had a relatively big roster (before it was changed for local). And the pop/skill incteases probably mean that matches will get progressively better.

That's true than an industry in the toilet at game start makes this challenge tremendously more difficult.

With all the tag, six man, and multi-man combinations you can run, I can't imagine hitting the repetitive booking penalty if you're making an effort. Besides, aside from your UC and one or two strong workers (usually Wolfsbaine, Whitehead, and/or DaLay in the USA), it makes sense to cycle through the other cheap jobbers every couple months. Or since contracts at Local don't need a downside, you can hire as many as you want, but then you'll have to worry about morale.

There is no penalty for repetitive booking when you have a local-sized promotion.

<p>So, I have an industry at F+ and rising, and the economy at E+ and falling. I know I'm some way from making any major money... but is there a point in a growing company's popularity where there's a significant jump in income? Or is it always a gradual increase?</p><p> </p><p>

My last month running a show, I lost $3, which I can't help but feel is the game taunting me <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p>

How do you guys handle the product of your company? It's so annoying to see a new owner come in, look at the product I have finely tuned to bring in a healthy amount of sponsorship, and immediately decide to change it to some train wreck product nobody wants to put money in. Do you hard code the product to what you want it to be? I kind of want some room for flexibility if trends suddenly make us unfashionable, but at what cost?
