The Official ThunderVerse Thread

I'm pretty pleased with how my latest game is going so I thought I'd share.

After his departure from AWF, Casey Skym wandered around the indy scene for a bit before he struck out in an unexpected direction: Partnering with several investors to form the Zombie Entertainment Network, with its flagship show being ZEN Art Of Wrestling. (It's too good a name not to use)

ZEN is run in the Lucha Underground style, seasonal format with angles given a cinematic flair. Basically, it's less a wrestling promotion than it is a TV show about a wrestling promotion.

Each season consists of 22 hour-long episodes (with a three-month hiatus between)and a special 2-hour finale in May.

The in-story premise for ZEN is that Skym has persuaded the leaders of four powerful crime families to financially support his Temple, where wrestlers from around the world fight for money and glory. In exchange, these gang leaders can settle their grudges inside the ring, saving them from costly and bloody turf wars.

Skym is portrayed as blood-lusting but generally well-meaning. He doesn't want any shenanigans getting in the way of his violence. Unfortunately, he often butts heads with Tatiana, who has been sent by the four families to represent their interests in the Temple.

Some of the stars of our show include VIP, who plays the character of a prize fighter, a mercenary who cares only about cracking skulls and cashing checks, and who does so on behalf of an East Coast gang called The Family.

Then there's Hell Cat, who was a policewoman in Mexico City until her family was gunned down before her eyes. That tragedy led her to don the mask and become a luchadora, fighting in underground fight clubs while tracking down the person who gave the kill order. She knows it's one of the four gang leaders involved with the Temple and she's determined to find out which one so she can exact bloody revenge.

Shay Kinsella was happily retired from professional wrestling, but when he saw how his beloved Urbana, Illinois, was fighting a losing battle with despair and blight, he reluctantly took up an offer from the leader of the Fallen Angels biker gang to fight on their behalf in exchange for the protection and improvement of his hometown.

Johnny Hollywood was living the high life, all champagne wishes and caviar dreams. But his prodigal lifestyle wasn't cheap, and he soon found himself deep in debt to some bad men in Las Vegas. Now he fights in the Temple, hoping to pay off that debt and perhaps even make a profit while he's at it.

Everyone believed that Wilson Hancock was past his prime, an aging second-string star who would never be a champion in a major promotion. But then the leader of a brutal Texas crime family found Hancock in a bingo hall somewhere and made him an offer he couldn't refuse: Fight for them and get one last chance at greatness.

Jess Hart had done it all. She was the most respected woman wrestler on the planet, she'd won titles in every company she had been in. But it wasn't enough. When her father refused to name her as the heir to his legacy (and wrestling school) she snapped. She realized it wasn't enough to be the best woman wrestler, she had to be the best WRESTLER. Now she's come to the Temple to prove she's just that and to force her father to recognize that SHE is his greatest legacy.

Francine (played by Sissy/Diane Stone) is just some eye candy, the ring announcer who calls wrestlers down to the ring and looks good doing it. Right? Of course not! In truth, she is actually an undercover FBI agent who has infiltrated the Temple in order to learn who Skym's employers really are and then bring them to justice. But she plays a very dangerous game...

Finally, there's the Ghost Rider. A dark force of nature resurrected from the dead by persons unknown for reasons unknown. All that's known is that when he shows up, someone is about to go for their Last Ride.

After fooling around with a PWI game, I decided that I wanted another go at my ZEN game. I was feeling *really* inspired.

This time around, same loose premise: Casey "The Zombie" Skym manages to wrangle together enough venture capital to launch a new TV channel, the Zombie Entertainment Network, or ZEN.

The network features grindhouse flicks, zany reality shows and, of course, zombie movies. But Thursday at primetime, it's the home to ZEN Art Of Wrestling.

Skym is the emcee and on-screen authority figure for the show, which is filmed on location in a custom-built studio arena called "The Temple" (imaginative, I know) in Skym's adopted hometown of Portland, Oregon.

Skym plays himself turned up to 11, a Visionary of Violence who built his Temple as a monument to personal combat. Unfortunately, to obtain financing, Skym got in league with a shadowy underworld figure known only as the Big Boss (played by Big Bubba).

The Big Boss sees ZEN Art Of Wrestling as a means to accomplish his own nefarious ends, and his organization, "The Outfit," runs the show. Skym and Big Boss often clash over management decisions, with Skym being the vision and Big Boss being the money. One of the main storylines of Season 1 will be their struggle for control of The Temple.

Another storyline focuses on Hell Cat and her quest for vengeance against outlaw biker Uzi Malone (played by Revolver Binx). Using the same storyline as before, Hell Cat was once a El Paso police officer Maria Santos until an outlaw biker, Malone, whose gang she was investigating murdered her husband and son. When she learned that Malone was in Portland, fighting in some place called "The Temple," the vengeful Santos donned the hood and pseudonym and set out to get justice.

Our headline storyline for the first season, though, is the six-way battle to crown the first-ever Zen Master. Featuring Alejandro Iglesias, Ryotaro Naruto, Adam Massey, Manu Samoa, Wilson Hancock and V.I.P., the finer points of this storyline have not yet been worked out but my plan is to crown VIP (easily my top star and a company icon) as the first champion.

I've also got storylines in the works for The Strykers and the Starr Brothers, battling it out to prove who the best brother tandem is, and Angelique (as Black Mamba) vs Jess Hart, in a story of high flier vs master technician. Still working on details there as well.

Some other notable signings are Joey Sleaze, cast as Joey Scagnetti, an undercover vice cop turned dirty who works for Big Boss and the Outfit; Richie Santana Jr., the legacy wrestler seeking to step out of his father's shadow; and The Butcher, a ruthless, bloody-minded fighter managed by Brother Blood (played by Aaron Church).

now THAT sounds like a sick idea (in a good way :p) I am also working on a zen save using the original concept of the four gangs

Glad to hear!

I've got a basic three-season arc set for Hell Cat, who is basically the lead character (though VIP is the bigger star).

Season one is her pursuit of Uzi Malone, which brings her into the Temple. Just before he gets killed off in the finale, he reveals he was hired by Big Boss.

Season two is her pursuit of Big Boss. She mistakenly trusts Detective Scagnetti, whose betrayal leaves her fate in doubt in season two mid season finale, but ultimately she returns and defeats Big Boss, leading to his arrest and the downfall of The Outfit.

Season three is when Hell Cat, with some prompting from Skym, finally realizes that she loves wrestling and she's very good at it. She decides to pursue the Zen Master and in the finale finally slays the dragon that is VIP.

After that? We'll see.

I never really fleshed them out beyond their leaders and the key fighters.

I believe The Family was led by Vick Vicious, and was repped by VIP; The Fallen Angels were led by Woo Mercy and repped by Shay Kinsella. Can't remember the names of the other two outfits or who led them, alas.

So, for someone who's never played the Thunderverse before (yeah, I know), what would be a good starting company? Like, not too big so the expectations aren't too high, but not too small either... and if possible, entertainment style product...

Based on your wants, I'd go with Legacy Wrestling Alliance. Not super SE style product but entertainment is valued there in a more old school NWA style way. You'd also be in Puerto Rico where there is room to grow and not be locked into regional wars.

<p>Traditional and Modern Key; Mainstream, Cult, Daredevil Medium; Comedy, Lucha, Hardcore Low; all others None.</p><p> </p><p>

Women's Wrestling set to Integrated, T&A set to Low. Intensity and Danger set to whatever the lowest allowed is, I think 60 percent and 70 percent, respectively. </p><p> </p><p>

This is all going off memory. I'll check when I get home and fix this if I'm wrong.</p>

In my The Club playthrough I am thinking of doing a few storylines, one of them involving Zyx and a storyline where someone gets possessed by a demon or a god or something and im wondering who would fit that role, think the gauntlet storyline with Cage in Lucha Underground, a few roles im looking to fill are a hired assassin working for the owner of The Club as well as a stable led by Love Freedom which i am in need of a name for, all I got is Cult of Love.

<p>So with Southpaw Regional Wrestling's second season coming out Friday I decided to try and create a similar promotion in the Tverse. However, with CWT and BCW being a thing, I figured it'd make more sense to make my promotion a parody of either of them, so I present to you all:</p><p> </p><p>

CHAMPIONSHIP WRESTLING FROM LOUISIANA</p><p> </p><p>

<span>http://i.imgur.com/iIexjkw.png</span></p><p> </p><p>

For clarity's sake the cast is this:</p><p>

-The Fightin' Farmer (Hobo From Hoboken)</p><p>

-Big Bubba Blubba (Cornfed Cletus)</p><p>

-Pretty Petey Paulson (Blonde Bomber)</p><p>

-Gravy Grits Jr. (Erik Wayne)</p><p>

-The Backwoods Bruisers, Billy Bob Cobb and Duke Earl Cobb (Donnie and Bruce Poole)</p><p>

-Dirty Dan DeBone and Radd Tadd McBadd (Danny Roxville and Randy Michaels)</p><p>

-Dr. Damnation (Dr. Danger)</p><p> </p><p>

Adam Sullivan was a one-off.</p>

Heartbreaker...

Playing as Pro Wrestling HONOUR, and just finished the inaugural Dagger Ito Crown Final, a beauty of a 4HR PPV with a three month round robin style tournament which has built up Corvis Jones from Midcard to Main Event.

Consistently having ME ratings in the low to mid 80's, so I figure lets give 'er for the final. On points, 1st place finisher is Ishii. 2nd place is Jones. ME for the Ito Crown Final... 60 Minutes... Jones over Ishii to set up Heavyweight Crown match at last PPV of the Tour. Lets add to it... Give the Spectacle Match Aim.

Rated... 63.

Sixty bleedin Three...

Welp... Either I'm never using any match aims ever again... Or I need to learn how to play this game better.

Advice? Thoughts? Anything similar happen to you?

...so frustrating.

Yeah, I had basically the exact same thing happen to me in my Cverse '97 game with 5SSW when my JoshiMania main event between Sensational Ogiwara and Crusher Ichihara scored a 67, which, while not terrible, was lower than I expected. Baffled, I took a look at the Dirt Sheet and IIRC it said something about the match being penalized because the crowd was very hot going into it. My takeaway from that was that, similarly to a Technical Masterclass, you need to cool the crowd down before a Spectacle match, maybe with a lesser match or one that has the Calm the Crowd match aim.

<p>So just for fun I decided to futz with the data and start a game as Brian Jack fanboy, Simon Stanford's promotion: SuperStar Pro Wrestling. With a product that heeeeavily apes the AWF, I wanted to see what such an attitude promotion would do on a smaller level with a diffierent talent pool.</p><p> </p><p>

Our two first shows:</p><p> </p><p>

<img alt="dq8wYxG.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/dq8wYxG.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

<img alt="Q7e4pFP.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/Q7e4pFP.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Our two major running storylines are the feuds of James Parr vs Diesel Train w/Simon Stanford and The Allied Powers (Adam Britannia and Will Hughes) vs The Underground (DeVonte Smith and FTL)</p><p> </p><p>

Parr vs Diesel w/Stanford (Or as I have title it 'Hoss Fight!') is the classic pairing of a big strong babyface against a big strong heel in an all out brawl for supremacy with the added wrinkle of company owner Stanford throwing in his lot with Train as the champion, screwing Parr out of the title in the inaugural show after a dominating performance by the big man. Since then, Stanford has proven himself to be an obstruction to Parr, using his authority to keep him challenging for the belt and forcing him to 'prove himself' with a ton challenges being put in front of him. For flavor, I've peppered in references to Stanford's real-life dislike for Parr's deceased mentor Blimp, using that as his case for why he will never allow Parr to get the belt.</p><p> </p><p>

The Allied Powers vs The Underground is a matter of respect vs ambition, the team of American Will Hughes and Englishman Adam Britannia are a pair of fighters exemplifying the traditional values of wrestling...contrast that to the disrespectful pairing of DeVonte Smith and Faster-Than-Light who took it upon themselves to spin a diss track against the Powers on their way to the ring for their first match. DeVonte harbors a particular dislike for Hughes, who he says has been holding him down in Europe's CWE promotion from day one and that he wasn't going to let himself live in the American's shadow any longer. The Powers, for their part, have taken exception to these taunts and are more than happy to settle things with The Underground in the ring, but how long will it be until these bouts spill out of the sanctioned matches and into full on brawls.</p><p> </p><p>

Rounding out the roster are our more comedic players, The Spooky Scary Skellingtons (briefly known as the Sons of Samhain) and The Numpties. The Skellingtons are Sidney and Stanley Skellington (Ace Von Skull, and Skullduggery respectively) while the Numpties are made up of the Navy Blue Nasty and Stanford's running buddy Sunbed Steve. Ironically, these four all ended up as Hot Prospects with Sidney Skellington being a Next Big Thing. Go figure, right?</p><p> </p><p>

Point of order, I decided to not hold a show on March for the sake of recouping some financial losses along with the fact I wanted to run a takeoff of AWF's Battle of Los Angeles called Battle of Birmingham and figured it'd be silly to run two battle royal main events so close to each other.</p>

<img alt="6vKbm9y.png" data-src="https://i.imgur.com/6vKbm9y.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Skipped March and May for events in order to recoup some costs from running my shows with all the talent I brought in. Newcomers include Braveheart as his usual fightin' Scotsman self, Elroy Crumpton as a comedic old-timey gentleman character, and Elton George, here repackaged as Gorgeous George my first 'Pushing the Envelope' gimmick of the SuperStarlets 'manager' (read: Pimp) with ambitions to make himself the star of the promotion by holding the company's T&A for ransom to get what he wants.</p><p> </p><p>

The main event of SuperFest, SSPW's answer to AWF's WrestleFest was main evented by the Stanford Prison match which was a barbed wire cage filled with weapons and tables which saw James Parr defeat Diesel Train for the Global Title after a stunt bump by Train. Not entirely an auspicious first title run for our inaugural champion with only three defenses but I blame the lack of regular shows and the fact I wanted SuperFest to be memorable with a crazy violent main event that had a feelgood end.</p><p> </p><p>

Also on the show we had the Allied Powers triumph over The Underground in a TLC match to be our first tag team champions in a bloody affair that's sadly underscored by Adam Britannia and their manager Sensational Shirley (one of the SuperStarlets) by real pains backstage which may shorten the reign these two have in the interest of making Hughes a singles star.</p><p> </p><p>

Had a tryout or two these few months with The Dragonriders (Bulldog Bradley & Bill Davies) and Mayhem being fed to James Parr in his quest for the belt. Mayhem has some potential and Bulldog is quite good for a roughneck brawl, Davies was awful and I won't be bringing him back.</p>

Dunno if there is anymore content planned for the thunderverse but i had the idea of making some new characters for the T Verse and making an unofficial expansion pack in honor of my all time favorite mod, perhaps with family characters AKA wrestlers related to other wrestlers? and other free agents

<p>If there are going to be new characters and there probably should be what I would like to see is a lot of low level generic characters. When I try to strt something like an RTG game I like to pick up young guys with no real history but even some of the guys n like their rookie year seem to have masks an elaborate backstories.</p><p> </p><p>

Were are the guys like Johnny Needham, Miller Fforde, Ralph Liotta, Robin Newman from the C-Verse. Just dudes with a regular name who are waiting for a promoter to come along and make something of them. In my experience most wrestlers don't come on the scene with a gimmick. They are given one by the promoter or develop it over the course of years.</p><p> </p><p>

So yeah if there's going to be some expanding I'd like to see that cause I very often do local to global feds and I just recently tried Thunderverse (which seems great don't get me wrong) but that bit was frustrating.</p>

The latter half of SSPW's first year was a mishmash of intertwining feuds as James Parr and the Allied Powers formed a loose alliance to deal with Stanford's expanding clientele (which now included Swedish monster, Valhella) while Gorgeous George in turn connived his way into multiple title matches-mistreating his girls all the way. Still, Parr proved a fighting champion and beat back the various attempts at his title throughout the year, which saw us jump to Small and take on a few more low level talents (EMOJI and Charlie Essex specifically) to make ourselves relevant. However trying to compete with TOTAL! and ATW's production values meant that I was leaking money like never before while also keeping some very expensive talents on the roster. I eventually had to just accept I'm going to have to take the production penalties if I'm going to make this company profitable while also removing the backstage cancers of Adam Brittannia and Sensational Shirley (who I wrote off with an injury angle and an offscreen firing by George respectively). Braveheart also sadly had to go, and did so in spectacular fashion, putting over (albeit in a protected manner) Valhella in a 'Birmingham Street Fight' on the way out to set up the Swede as more than just more muscle for Stanford.

I'll post another update when I've got the opportunity, this has been a very fun game so far.

<p>I'm doing a PWI game. One thing I changed in the database was Chase Paige and Lois Paige restarting WWWE. I allowed the game to sign their roster.</p><p> </p><p>

I'm changing the roster of the Lothario Standard. Kicked out Marco to run a World Title feud with Eli Morton. Added Travis Lothario in his place. Used and injury opportunity on Christian Alexander and some tension within The Phenomenal Ones to kick him out and add Mattias Taylor, who will be the future leader and mouthpiece. Ryan Doherty will possibly go in the future for Jimmy Walker.</p><p> </p><p>

I may form a 3 man stable with Jayden Cole ("Bay Bay"), Jimmy Walker (who seems to always have good Tag chemistry with Cole), and maybe Stacks Armstrong as the muscle.</p><p> </p><p>

Big feud for the Tag Belts with the Van Holt Brothers, Paros, and Ryan Doherty and Mattias Taylor (taking Christian Alexander's spot).</p><p> </p><p>

Running Seven Brandt as a Face Lone Wolf type. Just winning matches and building momentum.</p><p> </p><p>

I really want to do something with Ethan Epic. I really like this character. Not sure yet what to do.</p>

So decided to give the Thunderverse a go and after playing a few short games as different promotions finally got one I'm actually getting into. Only I'm not playing as one or two companies but three AWF in USA, UPJ in Japan and ILL in Mexico.

At the moment I'm booking via a month by month basis, just working working out my cards for the big show at the end of the month for each promotion and going from there and just finished March.

And at a side note discovered this narrative of the Japanese Emperor shaking hands with Kintaro Kinji at the end of OZEKI Summit Finals.....good thing I booked Kinji to win it or else that would have been a really awkward moment.
