TEW 2020 Small Questions Thread

Recommended Posts

That is such a good point, I was arguing this very thing a few weeks ago with somebody who thought in Classic Sports Entertainment you needed EVERY match to be above 15 minutes to avoid the penalty for being capped as too short.

I said at the time that you didn't need long matches in this product to avoid the penalty for most matches, and even the ones you do get capped, the penalty isn't that severe.

And now I have proof.

Don't be afraid of penalties. They aren't that bad.

12+4 is 16 you're not getting penalized.

Quick question to anyone, just out of interest. If you’re booking say a promo between to guys in the ring and maybe a brawl breaks out. What do you rate them on? Entertainment cos they’re talking? Or fighting cos they’re fighting? Sometimes I wonder if segments outta be rated on 2 things sometimes.

I think it's taking the match length including entrances. I haven't fully tested it, but that's pretty clearly not penalized in any way.

The... The last road agent note clearly says...

I just go with what's happening most. If a short promo is intended to end in a big fight, fighting. If a long promo ends in a short brawl, entertainment.

If one guy is talking for ages and another guy comes out to beat him up, one rated on each.

Gotta be a bug of some kind because every test I've done has hit me with at least a 10-15pt penalty, fairly consistently when I tested it in Beta. It's been a while, maybe they changed it since, I don't remember. But 97 is not a possible score when your matches are prevented from being "world-class". Either something under the hood is busted, or it's reading segment time, but the dirt sheet is still showing the penalty because it's reading the match time at the end.

The rating caps have historically been applied before most bonuses so i could be capped at say 80 and there are just a lot of things across the 4 wrestlers boosting it up to 94.

Came across something I consider a bug:

I want to extend my broadcast contract (maybe with a better timeslot). But the TV station won't even accept to original time slot.

On the other hand, when I ask to adjust the current time slot, they are even willing to give me a better one.

Doesn't really makes sense.

Just wanted to ask this again because it got caught in the dreaded "last post on a page" spot from which nothing returns:

Is there any way to get road agents & referees off of the dropdown box when booking a match? I can go into the screen where you edit their name/photo and uncheck the "Road Agent" box, but they still appear as an option when I'm booking.

So I'm looking to make the jump from 2016 to 2020 and I feel like I have to ask this question. I'm sure it has been explained somewhere but I can't seem to find the answer anywhere (so apologies if I'm just being blind)

How, exactly, am I supposed to interpret skills? Like if a worker has 60-68 in brawling...in past games you had one stat, like 68, so I'm kinda confused as to what to make of this 60-68 thing.

Nothing you can do about it, hopefully it gets patched in.

1. It’s definitely getting the penalty

2. It’s a 94, not a 97

3. Without the cap, that match would probably score a 100

4. The entrances are only 2 minutes, not 4

Stop arguing just for the sake of it. The cap isn’t that serious, this screenshot proves that and I encounter stuff like this ALL THE TIME booking shorter matches with this product.

Idk if its the same cheat as in old games but you could go and raise their pop through the editor to 100 across the board, save, then go back into the editor and change it back. It broke the cap in old games.

Hmm, this one doesnt seem to work for me, i've put it to 100, saved then gone back in and changed it back down. Put him over in a match for the title in a 92 rated match where his opponents pop went down due to losing but his hasnt gone up?

I've just bought TEW2020. I've played a little TEW and WMMA before so I have a little knowledge. However I do have some questions below

1)Is there a way to not be judged on a product? at the moment I just want to get used to booking matches and angles

2)Is there any primer on storylines?I could do with some ideas or a chart to help plan this out.

3)Is there any guide on stats? I can't find one in the handbook. I'm interested on what stats do what and what are essential for each role.

4) How important is popularity over skill? At the moment my company is small so I am just trying to book

5) Is there a decent comprehensive guide around? Even if it is for TEW 2016

Thanks in advance

You can't really judge whether he's hit his pop cap from one match. I'm not saying the cap-breaker trick does work in 2020, I don't know either way, but saying it doesn't based on one match seems wrong.

I've just bought TEW2020. I've played a little TEW and WMMA before so I have a little knowledge. However I do have some questions below

1)Is there a way to not be judged on a product? at the moment I just want to get used to booking matches and angles

There's no way to 'turn off' products. You can turn off a lot of the effects (Settings > Your Preferences) but you can't turn off the products themselves. I'd recommend starting with the less restrictive ones (No Style Style is pretty flexible IMO, as is Classic Southern Rasslin'). It depends a lot on what you want to book, obviously. Classic Southern Rasslin' would be useless if you were trying to book a lucha company, or revive ECW. You'd find it very restrictive in that case. but for me as an RoH/TNA/WCW fan I find it works very well.

My advice would be, pick a product, learn it, and don't play anything else for a while until you've got used to playing the game with that product. Products are pretty important for gameplay; it's like how playing Football Manager as Chelsea would be very different to playing it as Bristol Rovers. Same game, but very different mindset needed.

2)Is there any primer on storylines?I could do with some ideas or a chart to help plan this out.

The only rule for storylines to be advanced is that at least one worker from opposing sides needs to be in the segment in some way (in the angle or match, interfering, on commentary, etc, etc).

The heat of the storyline depends on the rating of the segments in it, and it needs to be advanced on at least every-other show otherwise it will lose heat (though tbh losing heat isn't a big deal, unless you're relying on that storyline to avoid penalties on this particular show). The Storylines section in the handbook has more on other ways storylines can lose heat, but generally if you don't forget about them you'll be fine.

3)Is there any guide on stats? I can't find one in the handbook. I'm interested on what stats do what and what are essential for each role.

Handbook > Workers > Skills.

4) How important is popularity over skill? At the moment my company is small so I am just trying to book

Depends on your product, it tells you on the product screen what ratio your product uses to calculate ratings. Usually it's a range, and the game uses the ratio in that range that gives the worker the best score.

My product as MAW is between 40:60 and 60:40 (which is pretty standard, not many products are massively outside that range tbh). In practice this means that popularity and skill are equally important. A really skilled worker who isn't over would do just as well as a really over worker who wasn't skilled.

Family Friendly Pro Wrestling, for example, is set at 30:70, so being popular is waaayyyyy more important than being skilled. You basically don't need to be able to wrestle at all.

Catch Wrestling is 65:35, so being skilled in the ring is much more important than being popular.

5) Is there a decent comprehensive guide around? Even if it is for TEW 2016

Check out Foolinc's dynasty in the dynasty forum (it was pinned last time I was in there so should be easy enough to find). He does a pretty good job of explaining most things.

Handbook > Workers > Skills.

Thanks so much for your reply. I can't seem to find this in my handbook. What I really want to know is what is the most important stat for each role. Also things like is it important to have at least a small understanding of each primary skill.
