Playing as a Developmental Company

Recommended Posts

<p>There are so many things about this topic alone to discuss (our experiences as such), so I figured I would give it a go.</p><p> </p><p>

I have very much enjoyed playing as NXT thus far. Though the trial is only 2 months, I have slowed my game down quite a bit by adding 205 Live as a B-Show to be booked before NXT Wrestling on Wednesdays. Naturally, I've already lost the USA deal and am working on just the WWE Network deal. I don't mind that at all, so far they have only started calling up Finn Balor. With him being the only Major Star I have, I sadly just fed him to Riddle, Ciampa, Gargano, Dream, and will be having him lose to Cole for the title too. <img alt=":o" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/redface.png.900245280682ef18c5d82399a93c5827.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />:p Biggest burial I've ever done, but I'm really trying to gauge this Perception system. Its a lot harder to "move people up and down the card" naturally, without pushes.</p><p>

They just told me they are taking Jeremy Borash soon. Oh well <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/rolleyes.png.4b097f4fbbe99ce5bcd5efbc1b773ed6.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

Jessamyn Duke is, apparently, now pregnant. Not even done with January haha</p><p> </p><p>

I'm pleased and intrigued by WWE's picks for signing to us. Its pretty awesome that they just give you prospects they have their eyes on. I found it HILARIOUS that they signed MIKE CHIODA to a developmental deal with me. I removed all the contracts of everyone fired on "Black Wednesday" and apparently they didn't want their longest tenured referee to go very far. <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/mad.png.69834f23b9a8bf290d98375f56f1c794.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> Poor guy IRL. </p><p>

They signed Rhino to the main roster. Have to think that'd be mine if developmental trainers were still a thing. Personal favorite of mine, so kind of gutted. They got Gallows, Brodie Lee, Erick Rowan, and James Storm back as well.</p><p>

Anyways, they have also signed for me:</p><p>

<strong>Dominic Garrini</strong>: shortened to Dom because they already changed Donovan Dijak to Dominik Dijakovic and I met them in the middle with Dominik Dijak. I don't want to change his name once again <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />:p:p This is someone I've seen on MLW, and I think he looks better on paper than he is on screen. His voice is grating. I'm using him sparingly, but he'll job for awhile. I don't hate him.</p><p>

<strong>Flip Gordon</strong>: I renamed him Flip Travis for some reason (just because Travis is his first name). I just wanted to rebrand him a bit. I have him working as a little heel on 205 Live, he has a multi-man match win already, and his future is bright as long as I'm his booker. I want to build him as a mini-Marty Scurll, as much as Marty does <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

<strong>Brian Pillman Jr</strong>: This one felt good. As far as I'm concerned, he has the highest ceiling of all of the people they picked. I really love this guy, he is a natural and has a way with the crowd. The legacy is needed for him in particular because his dad didn't get the shake he deserved. Its cool to have him on the roster, I had him debut as a Loose Cannon alongside the Brian Kendrick, and has won already won a couple matches on NXT proper.</p><p>

<strong>Myron Reed</strong>: I don't know how most people feel about Injustice on MLW, but I love them. Ironically, the Openweight Champion is my least favorite of the trio (Jordan Oliver is money to me, and Kotto Brazil oozes charisma). I have used Reed a few times just out of respect for that, but I don't see a push push coming his way with so many people on the roster. Not without either of those either guys, who I suppose I could bring in. <img alt="" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/rolleyes.png.4b097f4fbbe99ce5bcd5efbc1b773ed6.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

<strong>JJ Garrett</strong>: Don't know much about him, so I went ahead and changed his name entirely... to Gordon Vaughn. Sorry Flip <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> He is a jobber on 205 for the foreseeable future.</p><p>

<strong>Mance Warner</strong>: Pretty big character on MLW as well, they raided that roster for sure. I may be in the minority here, but not a huge Mance fan. I did rename him to Roscoe Nevada. Though he is a lightweight, I won't use him on 205 Live. For now he will job on NXT proper, but I am open to repackaging him for a legitimate run at some point. I just personally never like the hillbilly/redneck/American backwoods guy gimmick. Never ever. Briscoes sold me on it a bit in person at ROH shows. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

<strong>Fred Yehi</strong>: A prodigy from Evolve who would be working in the ROH Pure division at the moment if indy wrestling wasn't blacked out. I like the kid a lot, I know he had some history with TJP in Catch Point before TJP was in the CWC, and I think I can do a lot with him. Having him work as a face on 205 Live, and there are too many guys for him to get a good run going just yet, but I have plans for the guy.</p><p>

<strong>Alexander Hammerstone</strong>: The big one. As I said, they raided MLW. I am going to give him that stereotypical undefeated streak for a bit, just because I think he deserves it. The guy shouldn't lose here, I don't think. Not yet. That will help me find someone proper for him to feud with when the time comes, but for now he just will be squashing a lot of 205 guys. Obviously a heel. I shortened his name to just Hammerstone. Killer finish, awesome look, good star quality.</p><p> </p><p>

I have brought in on handshake deals:</p><p>

<strong>James Maritato</strong>: Will share the load with Drake refereeing wise, but also is here to put over people as Nunzio on 205 Live. A veteran that I've always loved, and an original cruiserweight. There are plenty of them on the independent scene to use (Paul London won't work for me, Shannon Moore is an option as always <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />)</p><p>

<strong>Tommy Mercer</strong>: I have always thought Crimson was legit. The dude's indy name is what intrigued me though. I have him coming in a similar light to Hammerstone, but as a babyface. I need a few more babyfaces on NXT proper anyways. Tommy "No Mercy" Mercer is one my pet projects, so I don't mind him not having the ability to be called up. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> I have him working a bit in a team with Dijak, and he won't be losing much.</p><p>

<strong>Amber Young</strong>: I'm a sucker for legacy workers, but this is an intriguing one as not many people are aware of David Young. I think Amber has a good look and would be a good development pick for them, but for now she is just jobbing for me as I like her and will push her far down the road.</p><p>

<strong>Billy Kidman</strong>: They shouldn't have fired this guy. Seems more fitting I have him as an Agent for 205 Live at this point, with the emphasis on in-ring high flying action there.</p><p>

<strong>Eddie Colon</strong>: Primo joined our roster as a singles worker who brings in a little bit of name value. He is working against Breeze on 205 Live and helping NXT Cruiserweight Champion Angel Garza out at this stage. I like him as a mentor veteran in the Cruiserweight division, I've always liked Primo for whatever reason. I think he was overshadowed by Carlito, and severely overshadowed Epico. There was a sweet spot in the middle where he ran with Rosa Mendes, was a Pro on NXT The Reality Show, and had a tag/feud with Zack Ryder. I like these things for whatever reason. <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> He is underperforming in the ring to my expectations thus far, so he has taken a couple more losses than I initially planned. I see him putting Garza over big time long-term.</p><p> </p><p>

Moving toward booking my first event. Cole will retain against Balor, I think I'm going to give Roddy a rematch against Lee, and I will be reuniting DIY (we are pre-Johnny Turncoat) to take on and lose to UE for the tag belts. </p><p>

-We are also pre-Dusty Rhodes classic at this stage. I have Dunne floundering on 205 Live to set-up the Broserweights being an even bigger need for him. The face tag team division is awful at the moment, just Lorcan & Burch, and a surprise chemistry find between Tyler Breeze and KUSHIDA has formed the Calvin Klein tag team. <img alt=":D" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/biggrin.png.929299b4c121f473b0026f3d6e74d189.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /> That is bittersweet as Fandango's surgery went poorly, so he won't be back for awhile anyways. I need a heavyweight face team, so I'm looking to Tommy Mercer and Dijak, or maybe Lee and Dijak if I decide to move the NA belt elsewhere.</p><p>

Rhea will be retaining over Shayna if I have anything to say about it. Bianca may be dropping some pop to </p><p>

Candice is going to face Io.</p><p>

I actually have El Hijo del Fantasma up to recognisable already thanks to the 205 Live show and NXT proper, booking him strong. Primo helped here as well. This leads me to believe a multi-man title win out of nowhere for him would be better, as Garza isn't even to this level yet. Garza can get the belt back at a different stage because I am obsessed with him as Latino Heat 2.0. Perhaps he and someone else can get a run in the tag division also. I'm thinking he and Primo against Breeze and KUSHIDA.</p><p>

I have a lot of other moving parts here, I think I'll put Dijak and/or Mercer over Damien Priest. Pillman Jr and Fred Yehi will be showcased at this show, I want to start moving Bronson Reed up the card as a heel.</p><p>

Tegan Nox is going to get some of the random popularity I managed to find for Raquel Gonzalez. So much more to do, but it'll all be on the Pre-Show.</p><p>

With the 205 expansion it will be hard to keep Takeovers short and sweet. I might even add some tag belts for overkill after the Cruiserweight Classic returns... IN FEBRUARY! Yeah, full Cruiserweight reboot on my end.</p><p> </p><p>

Bit of an information dump for sure, but I hope you guys enjoyed it, and I encourage you to share your developmental experiences. I did try 2 months as RIPW but it was fairly uneventful sadly.</p>

The ratings and everything isnt going to be what it to be for a lot of reasons, but mainly because of the upgrades in broadcasting from one game to the next. You shouldn't worry so much about ratings as a developmental company. Unless you want to succeed on owner goals or something haha. You are so much smaller than WWE in scale.

I am using the Southside/Fleisch RWC from Jan 2020

Being a developmental company is really exciting. I really hope there will be a mod along with NXT in its earlier years, when guys such as Seth and Mox were just starting out. You could play as 2 players and control BOTH NXT and WWE and really control your preferred wrestlers development and story from his debut in NXT to ending up main eventing mania in WWE.

Feels like my NXT experience was a mix of the 2 posted above. I lost all my TV deals super fast, but I only lost Finn Balor to call ups. My first PPV went fairly well, with Cole going over Balor and Gargano in the main event.

My women's division was really going well. I bought in a few popular females to try and give the rub to people like Io and Rhea (who had 0 popularity at the start despite being the champion) and it was working well. Rhea went up to 25 in the first month and Io was up a bit too. Unfortunately, it was Taryn Terrell, one of my signings to try and give Rhea the rub, who got super over with the young girl demographic, so I may have to be careful with that and how I book her, maybe not feed her to Rhea as planned.

I was enjoying the game but my low ratings combined with losing all my TV deals (and not being able to negotiate new ones for a year!) had me considering starting over when the full game is released. I think if I asked for less high profile time slots at the start... maybe I could have kept those deals?

Oh also, WWE never sent me anyone except a random referee I think.... it's good to know they can do that, but I wonder why they didn't for me if they sent you so many.

So figured I'd break my duck and make a post in here. Have always read the forums but having recently been forced to register to see things, I might as well get involved.

Using landxx real world mod I decided to test out the developmental feature. Thankfully his mod is extremely generous in terms of pop and stats making it pretty easy to play around without being killed with ratings, penalties etc. My experience so far has been enjoyable.

After booking a month of shows I haven't had the pleasure of being sent anyone from the Main Roster, quite the opposite in fact. The calls ups so far have been mostly as expected. Though this may be because of the genrous pop the NXT talent has due to the mod.

With that being said after the first Takeover i'm due to lose three of the more important road agents in HBK, Regal & Smiley. Beth Pheonix has also been called up leaving me an announcer short but this isn't much of an issue. Breezango surprisingly were the first to be called upon despite Fandango being out for 9 months. More worryingly Adam Cole got called up followed by Balor a week later. Cole right before Takeover and Balor right after.

Being able to write Regal off TV and help set up a Cage match for the NXT title and have it make sense was quite rewarding however

https://i.imgur.com/XzcpgKJ.png

While the mod so far has been friendly I can tell NXT is going to be a challenge, much like IRL if Vince decides to cherry pick anyone who gets over enough. Thankfully the month buffer gives you time to act and get some mileage from a story rather than just needing to abandom angles or drop titles instantly.

Case in point, having been warned of Cole ahead of time he dropped the NXT title to Velveteen Dream (Awkward) however having just put Balor over Keith Lee for the NA title, I now need to hot shot the title back to Lee or someone else. The positive is if they don't agree to put someone over or get annoyed, they'll be gone from the roster anyway. Good way to elevate someone and not be detrimental to your backstage environment.

As for my first Takeover, the generous pop helped but I still made a few mistakes such as match lengths, match aims etc. Especially in the Main Event which went slightly too long for a steal the show match plus both guys got stamina points ducked.

Overall though developmental is a fun feature with some challenging restrictions and obstacles along the way. Playing as simply a booker of a developmental (Especially in historical mods) could be really challenging but exciting at the same time.

For me I may continue this save after release, to get used to a lot of the new or changed things, until a historical mod becomes available. Though with the challenge of star power being called up and Charlotte Womens champ (From the start) and Rheas loan expiring, Charlottes also the womens division will take a big dip but that sounds like a riveting challenge. NXT womens division does need some work IRL compared to the Asuka days or the Horsewomen.

It may take longer than two months of gameplay to see if this is accurate but it seems that way so far.

There's a few in my save that I can release so they're NXT talent. I can't release Johnny Gargano as his contract is with WWE. So one is contracted to me, Gargano to WWE.

If that makes sense.

Yeah, it does, thanks. :)

I have a question. If you were to sign someone to your roster yourself, are they still eligible to be called up to the main roster? Or are those guys yours and yours alone?

From what I understand, no, but the parent company would still be able to negotiate and either sign them directly or change it to a developmental contract.

How Cole/Dream only got a 70 and Priest/Breeze got an 80 has baffled me haha. I wish I was having this type of luck with my Mod. Im hoping its the convert thats made the ratings etc so bad for me. Its really kinda ruining the game for me. Even as WWE I cant get a good rating

The ME with Cole/Dream went a little long for a steal the show, stamina penalties also. Landxx first version of his mod is what I'm using with a very generous pop/rating set up. Trial and error especially with the nerd nirvana product, crowd seems to want long, hard hitting matches but there's seemingly a very fine window to meet especially for Main Events on a PPV.

I'd reccomend for an easy beta save, using Landxx mod. He's posted a few updates though which might be doable now.

Converted mods will always have drawbacks for 2020

I would give anything to get a 50 for that match. I’m getting 35 at best for my matches. I’ve already had them take pretty much all my roster (20 call ups)

It’s an incredibly unrealistic mod, therefore not really playable. Adam Cole has more popularity than Hulk Hogan.

This is not an issue with the popularity of the NXT wrestlers. It’s a problem with products. NXT matches should not be rated on popularity. It should be rated on in ring performance. NXT is a very different product than WWE.

Considering that Hogan continuously says dumb crap that gets him in trouble, that actually doesn't strike me as terribly unrealistic.

You think 91 popularity is right for Adam Cole? I’m all for playing and enjoying the game, but not through unrealistic mods.

Hulk Hogan is the most popular wrestler in the world and he’s not been a wrestler for years. In this game, Adam Cole has more popularity than Brock Lesnar.

Ah, that's cute! No. At one point, maybe. The Rock is FAR more popular than Hulk Hogan ever was. Just compare the box office receipts for Hobbs & Shaw to Santa With Muscles.

91 IS a bit high for Adam Cole, but it's also way too high for Hulk Hogan now.

We need customisable products.

We really don't, there are what like 60 different defined products in the game. There isn't much you could do with the previous system that you couldn't find a product to fit in the current one. We just need to learn what products do what, it's a new game and therefore these things are supposed to take time to learn.

There may be a couple of things we can't do now, I don't know as I haven't read all the products that thoroughly but even when we had the old system some things felt pointless, like personaly it felt pointless to have anything lower than medium as say you were running a product that ignores hardcore you'd have to bump something that did take it into account up to medium for your current product to take it into account which could completely change what you were aiming for.

I'm rambling now so I'll stop tl;dr we just need to get used to the new system, it's not like the previous was perfect.

I wanted to update that now that I've effectively moved Adam Cole up to Major Star with his defense over Balor (who is still a Major Star despite me burying him), they are now calling him up. Who in UE do I turn face to beat Cole for the belt real quick? <img alt=":p" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/tongue.png.ceb643b2956793497cef30b0e944be28.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p>

They're also take Matt Bloom and William Regal, as well as HBK whom I've just had start a stable </p>
