mjdgoldeneye Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Trailer Info Apparently, this movie called "The Wrestler" is supposed to be really good. Any thoughts?
iMac Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Just read an interesting article about it on ESPN.com here
Comradebot Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Trailer Info Apparently, this movie called "The Wrestler" is supposed to be really good. Any thoughts? Haven't checked today, but yesterday it was riding at 100% on the tomato meter at RottenTomatoes.com In other words, every critic to review so far has liked it.
mjdgoldeneye Posted December 17, 2008 Author Posted December 17, 2008 This has "unexpected Oscar winner" written all over it. Maybe not unexpected if it ends up being successful...
Imarevenant Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I've been following the movie for a while now, I like Mickey Rourke and it seems the story of his character follows the same beats as his own life. I've read he's great in it, and I'll give anything directed by Aronofsky a look.
Imarevenant Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 This has "unexpected Oscar winner" written all over it. Maybe not unexpected if it ends up being successful... Really wouldn't call it unexpected. Aronofsky is one of the best directors out there; it's rare that something he's done falters artistically.
BurningHamster Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I'm looking forward to this one. I was watching the trailer just yesterday and thought it looked pretty good. Kind of a meshing of Mickey Rourke's life with that of a hell of a lot of aging wrestlers and maybe a bit of a Rocky vibe about the movie. Weirdly my grandmother (who has been involved in the cinema business her entire life) is going to see it before me. It freaks me out that an 80 year old woman who was frightened of Jurassic Park is going to watch a movie with Necro Butcher in.
Clarity Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 Total Film #150 has a feature about it. Doesn't look bad indeed
GatorBait19 Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I read on lordsofpain.net that Roddy Piper cried when he saw it

ACCBiggz Posted December 17, 2008 Posted December 17, 2008 I've known about it for awhile know and can't wait to see it. I'm a fan of Mickey Rourke and according to all reports this should be up for Oscars as it's that good.
Johnny Fenoli Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I really want to see this movie! But, apparently it's only going to be released in major cities... I'd have to drive all the way to Dallas to see it (150+ miles)... Looks like the only way I could see it is if I download it illegally, or wait for the dvd...
shamelessposer Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I read on lordsofpain.net that Roddy Piper cried when he saw it I know I cried when I saw Hell Comes To Frogtown.
tjb000 Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I've been following the production of this movie since I first heard of it. I'm so glad it's getting good reviews and even some Oscar talk. I want to see it so badly, but it looks like I'll have to wait for it to be released on DVD. Hopefully I can last that long.
Johnny Fenoli Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 Trailer Info Apparently, this movie called "The Wrestler" is supposed to be really good. Any thoughts? Oh and to MJ, I assume you watch the phillyD youtube thingy a mah jig... love that guy!
Tyler Gadzinski Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I've read that Mick Foley was a skeptic at first saying that there is no way an actor could know how a wrestler feels and goes through in there career. But then he said 5 minutes into the movie he was sold and it was one of the best movies he'd seen in a long time. God, I can't wait to see this movie.
darthsiddus2 Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I wanna see this movie. and yes Rourik is going to win the oscar this year.... they couldn't have asked for better workers to help him throughout the movie.
sebsy Posted December 18, 2008 Posted December 18, 2008 I would love to see this movie. Although as I live in England I'm guessing my chances are slim.
mjdgoldeneye Posted December 18, 2008 Author Posted December 18, 2008 Oh and to MJ, I assume you watch the phillyD youtube thingy a mah jig... love that guy! Yea... He's clever and he's got a show on almost daily.
ThriceP86 Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Oh man, I got chills the first time I saw the trailer for this movie. The guys that replaced Siskel and Ebert also gave it a "See it" review. They base their ratings on skip it, rent it, and see it. And one of them also said he thinks it's the best movie of the year hands down!
Guest The Aussie Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 Looks like Best Picture material in my eyes. Not to mention the fact that Rourke put Necro Butcher (I think...) through a table.
ThriceP86 Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 I sense Necro Butcher hate. I actually like him because he brings something different to the table... so there!
Tyler Gadzinski Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 And one of them also said he thinks it's the best movie of the year hands down! I'm still going The Dark Knight as the greatest movie of the year. It almost beat out Titanic in theatres.. So I don't know how that isn't gonna get best film of the year. Being a wrestler myself.. I look very forward to watching The Wrestler .. me and some other wrestlers were gonna go Wednesday but then stuff came up so we might go this weekend. !!!
Guest The Aussie Posted December 19, 2008 Posted December 19, 2008 I sense Necro Butcher hate. I actually like him because he brings something different to the table... so there! I didn't say I hated Necro. I just respect the fact that Rourke put himself and (I'm prety sure it was Necro) through a table.
