Marc Mero vs. The Rock

http://i25.tinypic.com/1zpmalw.jpgvs.http://i49.tinypic.com/2eeh4pz.jpg

A card that features so many brutal, brotherly matchups also features a tragic love story. The story of Marc Mero, The Rock and Sable. The last thing The Rock wanted to do was to break up a marriage, but when a beautiful women like Sable was beckoning you do it then who would say no? Little did The Rock know that he would begin to develop feelings for his friends wife and after the apparent problems between Sable and Mero as of late it was only a matter of time before they broke up. As you can imagine Mero didn’t take the news very well and immediately snapped out of his kind heartened persona that he had adopted this past few months and the persona which had seen him lose an uncountable amount of matches and change into a more angry version, somebody who would stop at nothing to get revenge.

Great Sasuke and ??? vs. The Mexican Warriors

http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/8465/greatsasukeqs4.jpghttp://i33.tinypic.com/302107q.jpgvs.http://i45.tinypic.com/90apvq.jpghttp://i50.tinypic.com/wo2ts.jpg

A month ago Great Sasuke was routinely retaining his much beloved Light Heavyweight Title until he was, along with the other two participants in the match, attacked resulting in a disqualification. Sean Waltman was the man behind it, but as with many hot shots in this business, he had people to do his dirty work for him. Sasuke needs to find a partner to go up against Waltman’s lackeys and the veteran tag team of The Mexican Warriors.

Fatal Fourway Match for the WWF Intercontinental Title

Jeff Jarrett © vs. ‘The World’s Most Dangerous Man’ Ken Shamrock vs. Goldust vs. Jerry Lynn

We’re not even half way through the year and Jeff Jarrett is already making countless enemies in the company. Despite this though, so far it’s been a great year for Jarrett, after defeating his foe Jerry Lynn at Wrestlemania he managed to win the Intercontinental Title over Ken Shamrock last month. Unfortunately for the new Champion his first defence is really going to separate the men from the boys as he faces his three biggest enemies in the company at the moment in a chaotic fatal four way match.

Hell in a Cell

The Undertaker vs. Kane

http://i36.tinypic.com/14ipjwz.jpgvs.http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/189/kanemask1998vn6.jpg

We have only seen this forsaken structure on one other occasion and it ended with Kane tombstoning The Undertaker in it. It proved just how barbaric a construction it could be back then and this time will be no different. Weighing five tons and standing twenty feet tall the steel cell will just be a new weapon for these two brothers to toy with after an intense feud that has seen fire and glass introduced. Two men will walk in, but we can’t guarantee who will walk out.

If Austin wins he receives a Title Shot when he pleases, If Angle wins then Austin will never be able to fight for the Title.

‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and ??? vs. Kurt Angle and ???

http://i34.tinypic.com/2pqnjhd.jpghttp://i33.tinypic.com/302107q.jpgvs.http://i47.tinypic.com/34rxij5.jpghttp://i33.tinypic.com/302107q.jpg

Lots of mystery surrounds this tag team match as two participants are yet to be confirmed. According to their partners though, they will definitely be showing up. This could quite possibly be the most important match of Austin’s career so far so with the stakes this high can he really find somebody he can trust to help him win this match?

I Quit Match

Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart vs. Owen Hart

http://i47.tinypic.com/kamf5e.jpgvs.http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/2623/owenhartwa7.jpg

We know one thing for sure, the brutally on display in this match will be nothing like we have ever seen here in the World Wrestling Federation. The term ‘personal’ just doesn’t do this feud justice and the humiliation at stake for the person who issues the words ‘I quit’ would be unbearable. Both brothers want the end the others careers going as far as saying they would have to kill the other to make them say those words. Be warned. There will be blood.

WWF World Heavyweight Title Match (If it goes ahead)

‘The Heartbreak Kid’ Shawn Michaels © vs. Mankind

http://i49.tinypic.com/2lus9cg.jpgvs.http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/2192/mankind1998rs8.jpg

The first question you have to ask is whether or not the match will even go ahead after a breach of contract threw it into doubt. The roots of which are rather ironic as it was Mankind who proposed the contract in the first place as a way to ensure that Michaels wouldn’t receive any outside help during the match. It all seems to have backfired on Mankind though as Michaels found a way to provoke him and maybe retain his title without even having to step foot into a ring. One thing is for certain, this is Mankind’s final chance at beating Michaels for his gold whether the match happens or not.

Jeff Jarrett © vs. ‘The World’s Most Dangerous Man’ Ken Shamrock vs. Goldust vs. Jerry Lynn

I think Jarrett keeps the belt though somekind of DQ loss or draw is possible

Hell in a Cell

The Undertaker vs. Kane

Kane won inferno match plus last week on RAW so Undertaker takes a win here.

‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and ??? vs. Kurt Angle and ???

I don´t think you want to keep Austin out of the title hunt forever.

I Quit Match

Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart vs. Owen Hart

Owen have been build as a main eventer while Bret is basicly HBK´s lackey.

WWF World Heavyweight Title Match (If it goes ahead)

‘The Heartbreak Kid’ Shawn Michaels © vs. Mankind

I don´t think that Mankind would get WWF title back. Well not yet anyway.

I don't tend to follow the C-Verse diaries, but you're one of if not the best writer for the real world diaries.

Whoa man! Thanks a lot for the praise, real big confidence boost to hear things like that.

Cheers for the picks so far guys. It's good to see some differing opinions.

The show will be up sometime this week and then i'll be moving things over to TEW10 which i'm looking forward to. I've tested the database after converting and it's ready to go, one surprising thing that happened during my test game was the death of Vince McMahon about one month in, hopefully that doesn't happen when I start the game properly :D. I'll give everyone a run down of what i've edited/added to make things more interesting aswell as a brief post recapping what's happened in the half year (gametime) this diary's been running.

Another great show mate. Love the ending where you throw everything up in the air, makes you feel like you really don't know what's going to happen next.

Marc Mero vs. The Rock

I'm not sure about this match. I don't know if I can get in to Rock as sleeping with someones wife, he's always seemed kind of asexual, like he will flirt with women or whatever but that he almost thinks he's too good for women. I don't know why. But hey, you've done a great job of changing how things went down so far so I'm going to see where you take it!

Great Sasuke and ??? vs. The Mexican Warriors

Looking forward to seeing who the mystery partner is, and I'm guessing you're just going to use the Warriors as enhancement due to their experience and age and that.

Fatal Fourway Match for the WWF Intercontinental Title

Jeff Jarrett © vs. ‘The World’s Most Dangerous Man’ Ken Shamrock vs. Goldust vs. Jerry Lynn

Just to give him a bit more of a reign and credibility

Hell in a Cell

The Undertaker vs. Kane

Flip of a coin. Who really knows who will win this? Except for you, of course.

‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and ??? vs. Kurt Angle and ???

Austin is still gonig to be the biggets name in wreslting whereas Kurt isn't ready for that, regardless of how well you've built him up

I Quit Match

Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart vs. Owen Hart

I'm guessing Bret will do something really reprehensible to make Owen quit, getting them both further over in the process

WWF World Heavyweight Title Match (If it goes ahead)

‘The Heartbreak Kid’ Shawn Michaels © vs. Mankind

It has to go ahead, doesn't it? I mean, the card is stacked but you've built so heavily towards this match. HBK has to keep the title though so Austin can eventually take him down

World Wrestling Federation Presents Over the Edge!

http://i45.tinypic.com/t670p0.jpg

http://img261.imageshack.us/img261/8448/jimrossdm5.jpghttp://img529.imageshack.us/img529/5528/jimcornetteaf0.jpghttp://img174.imageshack.us/img174/6050/jerrylawlerfd0.jpg

Ross: Welcome to the HSBC Arena here in Buffalo in front of 15000 strong, folks this is Over the Edge and i'm Jim Ross joined here at ringside by Jerry 'The King' Lawler and Jim Cornette.

Lawler: The first question is will it go ahead? We don't know guys, i'm intrigued to see what will happen between Michaels and Mankind after Mankind broke the contract last week.

Cornette: It shouldn't go ahead. Mankind proposed the contract himself and couldn't stay loyal to it. Michaels did everything he asks him to even though the completely unfair.

Ross: What did you expect Mankind to do? Terry Funk is the mans best friend.

Cornette: Yeah I accept that he did what any friend would, but sometimes you just have to make tough decisions. Lets face it, DX outsmarted Mankind last week.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Are You Ready?

Ross: It looks like we may get some answers.

http://i49.tinypic.com/2lus9cg.jpghttp://img204.imageshack.us/img204/7406/tripleh1998mt7.jpg

Shawn Michaels accompanied by Triple H make their way to the ring interacting with the hot crowd as they go. Triple H is having an argument with a brave heckler as Michaels stops to pose with some girls who despite Michaels’ heel status still love him.

Michaels: So Mankind just couldn’t keep his cool? Well that’s what happens when you’re not bothered about being the Champion, because if he really wanted this belt as bad as I want it then he’d have stood by and watched Funk take the beating. But he’s not serious about it. You’ve had your little 15 minutes of fame Mankind so why don’t you run a long and let the big boys plays because I think, I think you just breached this contract you were so sure was going to work for you, but what you didn’t bet on was intelligence. And us over at DX are full of it. I’d like to thank Triple H for coming up with that little plan on Raw on last week. Give him a big hand guys.

Triple H steps forward obviously expecting to be booed, but he raises his hands and takes a joking bow nonetheless.

Michaels: Their just jealous Hunter, man. Just jealous of our brilliance. I mean look at the state of them. I haven’t seen them looking this bad since the last time we were here. They wouldn’t know brilliance if it came up behind them and bit them on ass and that’s exactly why they cheer for such idiots like Mankind.

This elicits a hot response from the sell out crowd.

Michaels: Well guys it’s been a pleasure, wait did I say pleasure? I mean a f**king bore! Yeah you guys are just sending me to sleep out there so as I now don’t have a match tonight due to that fat sack of crap breaking the rules I think we should start my celebration party early. What do you say Hunter?

Triple H nods approving Michaels comment.

Michaels: So… I guess we’ll be on our way. Oh wait, wait, nearly forgot something.

He hits himself in the head with the microphone and shakes his head at Triple H.

Michaels: Suck It!!!

Michaels and Triple H crotch chop at the crowd who began to boo the twosome. They the turn to leave taking their time to exit as Michaels constantly raises the belt above his head to remind everyone that he is the Champion. They pop behind the curtain, but instantly fall backwards clutching their heads as everything in the crowd stand in anticipation of what happened.

http://i50.tinypic.com/wcojfl.jpg

Terry Funk emerges from behind the curtain wielding a steel chair. He kicks Michaels in the head and then picks up Triple H and drags him backstage.

Ross: Bah Gawd! What is Terry Funk doing?

Cornette: This is an outrage, Funk is a madman, he should be locked up not here in a wrestling arena.

Before the match began a short video played on the titantron highlighting how the feud came about. It Showed:

• Mero and Sable experiencing sexual problems in their marriage and Mero choosing to confide the information into his friend, The Rock.

• Mero’s losing streak which followed.

• Sable and The Rock beginning an affair which Mero was oblivious to.

• Sable finally releasing the information to Mero who flipped in the locker room.

• A series of brawls between The Rock and Mero which Sable always managing to get involved in some way.

• The Rock’s expression as he inadvertently hit Sable with the drainpipe last week on Raw.

Marc Mero vs. The Rock

http://i25.tinypic.com/1zpmalw.jpgvs.http://i49.tinypic.com/2eeh4pz.jpg

Marc Mero came to the ring alone followed by The Rock, alone. Sable wasn’t anywhere in sight and after last week’s unfortunate assault she clearly doesn’t want anything to do with either men here. As many would expect Mero came out of the blocks like an Olympic sprinter chasing after Rocky as soon as the bell sounded. The developing Rocky though had it scouted and obviously talked about this strategy from Mero prior as he simply ducked under Mero and sent him flying over the top rope signalling for the crowd to let out a great roar early in the night.

With The Rock’s recent surge in popularity it was hard to look past him to win this match, but Mero wouldn’t give in, he wouldn’t quit without gaining some retribution for The Rock stealing his wife. It was clearly a struggle for Mero though for most of the match as The Rock was feeding off the crowd hitting electrifying punches as Mero just couldn’t muster anything up to respond with. Mero, after hitting a swindling lowblow, came back at The Rock hitting him with his own brutal punches aimed at cutting his former friend open. The referee had to pull a relentless Mero away as he unloaded with a barrage of hits and didn’t look like he had any intention of stopping.

Towards the end of the match the imminent of arrival of Sable occurred. She slowly walked up the ramp and circled the ring as the two battled in the centre. Rock and Mero were now trading hits, but Rocky seemed to have the upper hand as he connected with two in a row. He then lifted Mero up and hit a spinebuster as the crowd began to feel a victory coming up. The Rock picked Mero back up and wrapped his arm around his neck looking to hit the Rock Bottom. He paused for a moment to elicit a response from the crowd, but that proved to be a mistake as Sable came up behind him and delivered a nasty lowblow which had The Rock fall to the fall clutching his groin.

Winner by disqualification, The Rock

Match Rating: B-

The crowd began to boo furiously as Sable sneered at The Rock who looked back at her with a look of complete disbelief. Mero started to smirk as he hugged Sable in the centre of the ring, and then kissed her in front of a distraught Rock. He booted The Rock in the mid section as he was helpless on the ground before lifting his wife onto his shoulders and walking leisurely down the ramp as The Rock, in pain, watched on from the ring. To add further insult to injury as they were about to head through the curtain, Mero and Sable locked into a huge passionate kiss.

Lawler: Sable was playing The Rock the whole time.

Cornette: I knew Mero wasn't a loser, Rock may have won the match, but I'm sure he'd rather have the girl.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The camera cuts backstage where Michaels is pacing swiftly up and down his locker room as Bret and The Outlaws are sat wondering what to think of events that transpired around 15 minutes ago. Suddenly a piece of paper flies underneath the door.

Roaddog: You want me to see what it says Shawn?

Michaels nods at Roaddog who goes over and picks the piece of paper and begins to ready aloud.

Roaddog: I have your team mate who is currently in a great deal of pain, which could quite easily be made worse. He will be returned once you agree to allow Mankind fight for the WWF Title tonight.

All three pairs of eyes look up at Michaels who is staring down at the floor.

Bret: Errr Shawn? I think you know what to do.

Michaels: Yeah Bret I do and over at DX we don’t give in to demands. We do the demanding and Triple H knows that and he’ll take all the pain in the world to keep this belt within DX. Nobody will change that ok? Now Outlaws go find that crazed madman and get Hunter back. He’s gotta be around here some place.

The Outlaws depart in search of Triple H.

Bret: Are you sure this is the right thing to do?

Michaels: Are you questioning my judgement Bret?

Bret: No Shawn, but I just think we should think of Hunter here. I can only imagine what he’s going through and attacking Funk last week could only make that worse.

Michaels: If you don’t mind Bret I’ll do this my way.

Great Sasuke and Marty Jannetty vs. The Mexican Warriors

http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/8465/greatsasukeqs4.jpghttp://i50.tinypic.com/20i9imc.jpgvs.http://i45.tinypic.com/90apvq.jpghttp://i50.tinypic.com/wo2ts.jpg

The Mexican Warriors entered first and awaited Sasuke to arrive with his partner. They came out together as Sasuke lead down former Rocker Marty Jannetty who received a nice pop from the crowd. The two seemed to be on the same page early on as Jannetty was doing some damage to Guerrero while tagging well with Sasuke. Given the age of the people involved the match had a surprising spring to it as Sasuke gave the Warriors no rest-bite whatsoever after their inexcusable attacks on him and the rest of the division this month. He was at his entertaining best all match hitting various high risk moves.

Jannetty allowed Sasuke to have most of the offence which he gladly accepted without any arguments. With Sasuke on top battling with Blue Panther, he looked to tag Jannetty in. It looked like it was a plan The Mexican Warriors had talked about before hand as Chavo Guerrero immediately distracted the referee allowing Jannetty grab hold of Sasuke head and jump off the apron resulting in his head catapulting off the ropes. As Sasuke stumbled back Panther caught him with a drop toe hold and then locked in the standing figure four leglock as Sasuke withstood the pain for as long as he could before having to tap.

Winners: The Mexican Warriors

Match Rating: D-

Jannetty re-entered the ring post match and begin hammering away at the Light Heavyweight Champion along with Panther. Guerrero ascended the turnbuckle and hit a splash on Sasuke while Jannetty climbed a turnbuckle and connected with a diving elbow. The three old bullies continued to lay their boots into Sasuke before walking off to the back, Jannetty arrogantly smiling away at an unhappy crowd.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The camera once again cuts backstage to find Both New Age Outlaws, Billy Gunn and Roaddog laid out on the floor unconscious. Shawn Michaels rushes to the scene crying out loud showing he is becoming stressed with the situation. The Medical Team come to take The Outlaws to the hospital as Michaels storms off back to his locker room.

Bret: What was it?

Michaels: He’s taken out the Outlaws.

Bret: Come on Shawn. This is getting out of hand and you know that Funk isn’t one for backing down. Triple H only has to hold out until the night is over

Michaels: Bret, we don’t want to look weak. We have to stay strong and prove that nobody can get to our heads.

Cornette: Lock him up! Lock him up and throw away the damn key!

Fatal Fourway Match for the WWF Intercontinental Title

Jeff Jarrett © vs. ‘The World’s Most Dangerous Man’ Ken Shamrock vs. Goldust vs. Jerry Lynn

http://i31.tinypic.com/34e6g0k.jpgvs.http://img55.imageshack.us/img55/8081/kenshamrockxt7.jpgvs.http://i35.tinypic.com/5vi21.jpgvs.http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/276/jerrylynnkd2.jpg

As we predicted the referee found it increasing difficult to keep up with proceedings here as with usual fatal fourway rules, everybody was allowed in the ring at the same time. This led to very little control from one man as when they looked to be getting somewhere their offence would be stopped by another participant. This was particularly annoying for Jerry Lynn who loved to wear his opponents down slowly, but in this environment that just wasn’t possible. It was also tough for Shamrock who had built a career on scaring people with his intense ankle lock submission, but he was never able to get enough time to wear somebody down with it. In fact it was Goldust in the early exchanges who was fired up the most, probably thanks to that pinfall victory he gained over the Champion last week on Raw.

Although they attempted to slow down the tempo on occasion the match was a frantic affair from start to finish. Jarrett backed off early on and regularly took intervals to the outside, his efforts to try and get the crowd believing he was taking a breather were unsuccessful as it was clear he was scouting around and looking to pick up the bones later on. He slid into the ring, slipped a few punches and kicks to an opponent and then slid back out again with was obviously the strategy he had been thinking of all week.

As Goldust and Shamrock brawled in the corner, Lynn took the opportunity to punish his nemesis Jeff Jarrett. Jarrett’s face was a picture as he was chased up the ramp by Lynn; it was even better when he tripped halfway up allowing Lynn to suplex the hell out of him on the unforgiving steel that was the ramp. Jarrett’s back slammed onto the steel and he leapt back up in agony every time. Lynn ended the beating by flinging Jarrett head first into the steel barricade before making it a triple threat match back in the ring.

The three challengers all fought valiantly for five minutes with Lynn getting closest to the Championship hitting a cradle Piledriver on Goldust only for Shamrock to break up an expected three count. Shamrock went right to work on Lynn hitting a quick snap suplex before whipping him into the corner followed up with a big forearm to the face. He then stomped away at Lynn who grew smaller in the corner before delivering a well executed kick to the side of Lynn’s face. The former Champion wanted his Title back. As Shamrock’s eyes widened and he moved over to Goldust who was recovering, Jarrett stormed back into the ring and flung Shamrock head first through the ropes and to the outside. He wasted little time and went straight for Lynn who was the weakest of the two due to the recent punishment he had sustained. Jarrett unleashed some hard rights before sending Lynn into the ropes and hitting back body drop as he returned. Jarrett lifted a destabilized Lynn back to his foot and hit The Stroke. He covered quickly as Goldust and Shamrock were both too late with their respective break up attempts.

Winner and still WWF Intercontinental Champion, Jeff Jarrett

Match Rating: C+

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Backstage Michaels paced around furiously before a voice stopped him dead in his tracks.

Voice: Turn on the TV.

Bret reached over and pressed the power button as the pair soon screeched in shock at what came on. Triple H was strapped into a chair, his face bloodied and battered, his chest cut and his head drooped. Funk entered the seen, his first cut seemingly from constantly punching Triple H, in a crazy voice he began to talk.

Funk: Shawn, look what I’ve done Shawn. I thought he was your best friend eh?

Funk swung once more at Triple H as Bret flinched and Shawn just closed his eyes tight.

Funk: I can do this all night Shawn and god knows I will… Still not ready to give Mankind his shot?

Funk picked up some wires from a table on the side, the wires attached to a huge power supply. He flicked them together creating a huge spark and then slowly moved towards Triple H.

Funk: Last chance Shawn.

The wires closed in of Triple H and were only inches away when Michaels made his presence known.

Michaels: Stop you madman! What the hell is wrong with you?! Mankind gets his god damn match, but you better warn him that I will kill him tonight for what you’ve to Hunter and then we’ll come get you Funker. We’ll come f**k you up like you f**ked Hunter up, but we’ll do it worse. Now let him go you crazy b*****d.

Funk let out a sick smile and dropped the wires before taking the straps off a maltreated Triple H who just stayed there in the chair as Funk scurried off into darkness.

Ross: The match is one! We have our bah gawd main event!

Cornette: Michaels has been forced! This is an utter disgrace!

Lawler: DX played like this last week so Funk was only returning the favour.

‘The Innovator of Offence’ Chris Kanyon vs. Ricky ‘The Dragon’ Steamboat

http://i48.tinypic.com/1z1zr6c.jpgvs.http://i45.tinypic.com/qzghdx.jpg

The two wrestlers had very different pre match gameplans as Kanyon, standing still, just stared straight at Steamboat who was warming up his punching skills as well as stretching off. As the bell rang Kanyon still continued to remain still and stare straight at Steamboat looking incredibly intimidating with his 270lb frame. Steamboat started to approach him and Kanyon hurtled towards him knocking him down with a huge clothesline.

Steamboat despite all his years of experience at the top was dominated by the newcomer who lived up to the recent hype on Raw. Kanyon delivered a third suplex in a row, all diverse from the other, as Steamboat clutched hold of the ropes trying to gain his breath. Kanyon wouldn’t allow him to though as he followed up with an inverted neckbreaker. Steamboat was gasping for air now after crashing onto the mat numerous times. Kanyon lifted Steamboat onto his shoulders and jumped up to the second rope immediately dropping backwards with great velocity. He covered the legendary Steamboat and the referee counted a three count to cap off an impressive victory.

Winner: Chris Kanyon

Match Rating: C-

After the match Kanyon stayed in the ring and stared at Steamboat who looked straight back at Kanyon from the floor obviously scared for his life, but not wanting to show fear. Kanyon made a sudden move towards Steamboat who recoiled backwards, but was soon surprised to see Kanyon’s arm extended as a sign to help Steamboat to his feet. Steamboat grabbed hold on Kanyon’s arm as he pulled him up and the two shook hands in the ring, Steamboat’s other hand used to nurse his wounded body. Without nothing more as a nod Kanyon left for the back after showing a great deal of respect for his opponent.

A video plays on the titantron illustrating the brutal, intense, and innovative feud between The Undertaker and his brother Kane resulting in their differences being resolved inside five tons of steel. It Show:

• Kane burning The Undertaker during their Inferno Match at Unforgiven to claim victory.

• Undertaker gaining revenge the next night on Raw as he set Kane on fire and took Bearer down aswell.

• Undertaker telling Kane he would fulfil his father’s wishes of taking him to hell.

• Kane’s sadistic assault he following week on Raw which culminated with The Undertaker crashing head first into a glass window.

Hell in a Cell

The Undertaker vs. Kane

http://i36.tinypic.com/14ipjwz.jpgvs.http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/189/kanemask1998vn6.jpg

As the cell was being lowered the three announcers hyped over the dangerous reputation given to the match and that the five tons of steel has just one intention, to cause as much pain as physically possible. Both Kane and Undertaker were no strangers to the cell having both spent time in it last year, but you get the impression that The Deadman had an advantage having used the surroundings more during his match with Shawn Michaels. The entrances of both men were long as they took their time to take in the extreme nature of the cell before finally getting into the small door which was subsequently locked tightly by a member of the ring crew.

The two monsters began the match with an intense stare down ending when Kane tried to throw Undertaker into the corner, but Undertaker reversed it and threw Kane into the corner instead. He began unloading with quick punches to the ribs as the fans cheered Taker’s quick start to the match. The next few minutes passed by without either man testing the steel cage. It seemed as though there was a tentative build up to the moment when the cage would be brought into play to brutalise, but at the moment both men were fighting hard to make sure they weren’t the first one to feel its wrath.

Finally the breakthrough as Kane sent Undertaker crashing headfirst threw the ropes resulting in him cracking his head on the cell. The wound caused by Kane in an earlier assault involving a glass door was instantly split back open as blood poured down The Deadman’s cold white face. Kane had struck first and wasn’t showing any signs of letting up as he continued to open up the wound with some closed fists which he dragged along the face upon contact. Kane was beating Undertaker in his own environment. A match that he was intent to make his own playground, but so far Kane was calling all the shots and laying down all the laws. A side slam on the outside there from Kane who had only moments before sent Undertaker crashing into the cell once again, but this time shoulder first.

Kane ascended the top rope looking to hit a diving clothesline on Undertaker, but the bloodied Deadman had the move well scouted, he stumbled to his feet and immediately collapsed into the ropes sending Kane down from the turnbuckle and caught up in an awkward position on the ropes. Undertaker needed to act fast with a chance after being beaten so badly thus far by Kane and that’s exactly what he did. Undertaker carried on wearing Kane down with some powerful offence until he went for a Tombstone attempt. Kane jumped from Undertaker’s back and knocked him down with a big clothesline before falling into the ropes himself. Undertaker stumbled over to the ropes using them to get to a vertical base. He clung on flicking his hair back as Kane came crashing towards from the opposite, Taker managed to slide out of the way and pull the ropes down which sent Kane outside the outside, his momentum taking him into the cell.

Undertaker and Kane brawled on the outside with Taker managing to gain the upper hand as he whipped Kane into the steel steps with great force; the steps were sent flying upon the impact from the 300+ pounder. Taker continued to slowly wear Kane down on the outside before sliding him back in the ring which is of course where he needed to be to win the match. He whipped Kane into the ropes, and looked to knock Kane down with a shoulder block as he came back, but Kane managed to put some force behind the hit and both men bounced off each other. Exhausted, they began trading blows, two huge strikers throwing punches that would ordinarily knock any man to the floor, but not two monsters like this. As they went toe to toe it was clear that they were so much a like in size and power. Undertaker started to connect with a few punches in a row as Kane stumbled back into the ropes and as Taker ran towards Kane he ducked and sent his brother over the top rope. Showing tremendous athleticism The Deadman landed feet first on the apron as Kane was oblivious in the ring. He turned around into a huge uppercut from Taker which finally sent Kane crashing to the mat.

Undertaker pulled Kane to his feet and grasped him around the neck drawing out a huge pop from the crowd who knew what was coming. Great elevation from Taker as Kane soared into the air only to be dropped back down flat on his back. One…Two…Thre! No! Kane kicked out of the chokeslam. Undertaker sat up, shocked and dragged his hair back showing his tired face. Suddenly Undertaker turned serious as he ran his hand across his throat signalling for the tombstone, but Kane sat up! Undertaker hit him hard, but Kane shook it off and head butted Taker before slamming him down to the ground. Kane moved his arm back and moved his hand into a weak fist signalled the end of Taker. Undertaker stood up slowly and turned into the hand of Kane which landed on Taker’s throat. He went to lift his brother into the air, but Undertaker counted into a DDT. With his hair now sticking to his face from the dark red blood that now eclipsed his face, Undertaker again signalled for a tombstone. He hoisted Kane onto his shoulder, but Kane flipped over and managed to reverse catching Taker in a tombstone attempt. He went to drive Undertaker’s head down, but Undertaker reproduced Kane’s reversal of moments ago to gain back the advantage. This time there was no mistake from The Undertaker as he hit the tombstone in the middle of the ring. One…Two…Three as Undertaker folded over Kane’s arms and stuck out his long tongue, his face a complete crimson mask.

Michaels Cole is standing by backstage with special guest.

Cole: I’d like to welcome my guest at this time, Owen Hart.

The camera zoomed in on Owen who was more focused than ever before, his eyes rarely blinked and he was calmly taking deep breaths.

Cole: Owen, I’m sure you have thought about this long and hard, but tonight you have a potential career threatening match…

Owen: So you agree with that son of a bi*ch? You think my career is over tonight?

Cole: Nooo…. Errr….

Owen: Shut up and give me that damn mic.

Owen snatches the microphone from Michael Cole turning it into more of a promo than an interview.

Owen: This is it Bret. This is where we end it. You couldn’t leave me alone after I beat you at Wrestlemania. You had to make me do this. Because what I’m about to do Bret is something even you, who knows me oh so well, can’t even scout for, because if I’m honest, even I don’t quite know what is going to happen tonight. I’m not sure what I’ll do out there, but I know one thing, you won’t like it. You won’t like what I do to you because I’ve been thinking Bret. All week long, ever since you attacked our father, I’ve been thinking and I came to the conclusion that you just don’t care anymore. I didn’t believe it at first. Back at the Royal Rumble I didn’t believe that you could become one of the them. I wasn’t ready to accept that my big brother was capable of doing something as cowardly as that. No, you don’t care at all. You don’t care who you hurt and I now accept that your one of them. In fact, you’re worse than one of them. You are the lowest of the low and I think it’s a shame that nobody will remember the great matches you’ve had in the past, the many accomplishments you had. That’s the stuff I want to be remembered for Bret, not turning on your own family and abandoning everything you ever believed in, but if that’s the new you then what right have I got to change you. You see Bret after tonight I’m ready to move on. I want to further my career here and most importantly, I want to win Championships…

The voices out in the arena rise as they clearly want to see Owen going for the gold.

Owen: So Bret tonight, you better get ready. You need to prepare for the unexpected because that is exactly what you’re going to get. An Owen Hart that you’ve never seen and probably will never see again, because I won’t be proud of what happens to you, but I'll damn well do what I have to win.. You may think I want to end you career, that I want to injure you so badly that you spend the rest of your pathetic little life bound to a wheelchair, but I don’t have a choice. You’ve not given me the choice. So think about this Bret. Whatever happens to you tonight will be through no fault of mine. Everything you get tonight will be damn right deserved! Bret… You’ve earned this beating.

Owen screws his eye up into the camera before walking off down the corridor.

http://i47.tinypic.com/34rxij5.jpg

Kurt Angle proudly makes his way to the ring being careful to do his usual routine which is greeted by the usual hot reaction. He spins in the ring so everybody in attendance can see his gold medal displayed conceitedly around his neck.

Angle: Now I know you’re all wondering who I, The Olympic Gold Medallist, the greatest damn wrestler alive today, Kurt Angle, has picked to partner him tonight. Who could possibly be good enough to tag with the best in the business is what you’re all thinking out there. Well I ain’t going to keep you in the dark for much longer so without further ado here you go, my partner tonight…

Music blares out around the arena and Angle’s partner steps out from the back and walks to the ring.

Angle: The toughest fighter you’re ever going to see in a WWF ring, all the way from Blackpool, England, William Regal!

http://i47.tinypic.com/28rfi2q.jpg

Some of the crowd clearly have no idea who he is, but most of them have a fair idea and must have seen him in another promotion somewhere, the name of which isn’t allowed to be issued on WWF broadcasting. Regal steps into the ring shaking his hand as Angle embraces him. Angle pops in his mouth guard and starts to shake his head joining the crowd as they await the arrival of Austin.

Crack!

http://i34.tinypic.com/2pqnjhd.jpg

Austin steps of from the behind the curtain causing the crowd to erupt in unison. A microphone is clutched in his hand as he stands on the ramp not wanting to go to the ring without his partner.

Austin: What the hell is this piece of trash standing in the ring? Actually who the hell is this piece of trash? Because Angle you promised us a special partner, but you didn’t tell us nobody would know who he was. I must say I found it surprising to see you Angle, a so called patriot, introducing a limey, but that’s just my opinion. Anyway Kurt enough about your unknown little partner, cos it’s time for MY partner. You all know that when Stone Cold does something he does it right. He doesn’t just go out and pick any old Englishman up off the street. Unlike yours Angle Stone Cold’s partner needs no introduction so I’ll let his music do the talking.

http://i47.tinypic.com/2q3xbpu.jpg

Some very, very familiar music begins to play and the crowd erupt once again as the WWF Commissioner ‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair struts out from behind the curtain.

Flair: Wooooooooooooo!

Angle doesn’t believe it as Austin and Flair, enemies only six days ago, walk side by side to the ring ready to face The Corporation which only six days ago Flair was a part of.

‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and ‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair vs. 'The Wrestling Machine' Kurt Angle and ‘The Street Fighter’ William Regal

http://i34.tinypic.com/2pqnjhd.jpghttp://i46.tinypic.com/ru34o4.jpgvs.http://i47.tinypic.com/34rxij5.jpghttp://i47.tinypic.com/28rfi2q.jpg

Ric Flair smiled at an irate and astonished Kurt Angle as he couldn’t believe Flair had turned his back on The Corporation. Regal was originally ready to start the match, but when Flair stepped above Austin, Angle pulled Regal back wanting to punish Flair himself and make him see he’d made a huge mistake. He attacked the veteran Nature Boy before as soon as the bell rang as Angle began hammering away with swift right handed hooks before whipping Ric into the ropes and capturing him in a standing sleeper hold as he flew back. He didn’t keep the submission on for though as he conncected with a nasty european uppercut followed by a quick hip toss and a brilliant drop kick to the face as Michaels sat up. Angle let out a great roar as he started beating his chest. He tagged in Regal who quickly locked on an abdominal stretch as the unique paring of Angle and Regal started to wear down Flair, a man who hadn’t seen much in ring action lately.

For the next several minutes Angle and Flair put on a wrestling clinic as they completely wore Flair down continuingly frustrated Austin who hasn’t seen any action yet. The frequent tags of Regal and Flair kept each man fresh and warmed up. Regal punished Flair some more with a double underhook suplex which he followed up with another submission hold, this time a bow and arrow stretch. Angle came in once again and had a much quicker and intense approach than Regal as he wrapped his arms around the waist of Flair and subsequently hit three successive german suplexes going for a bridging pin attempt after the final one. One…Two…Thr… Flair broke the pinfall as Austin was beginning to get anxious on the sidelines. Angle stalked Flair like a cheetah before rapidly moving in on his prey hooking Flair’s leg and spinning him around into an angle slam. He lowered his straps on his singlet and grasped the ankle of Flair who screeched in pain and immediately used all his effort to move for the ropes, but Angle instinctively dragged him back.

A minute passed and Flair, who knew how to last a submission move, was fading fast. He almost didn’t have it in him to show pain, if he didn’t reach the ropes soon he would simply pass out. Austin was screaming at him on the apron, as he was in someway feeling the pain more than Flair right now. One final push from Flair as he managed to flip Angle off. Angle shook it off and ran towards Flair, but The Nature Boy had catapulted into the outstretched hand of Austin as the crowd erupted as he stormed through the ropes and sent Angle crashing to the mat with a huge clothesline. Regal was next receiving a hard right from Austin knocking him off the apron. He came back at Angle who had foolishly risen to his feet tackling him down and unloading with a onslaught of rights and left, the speed meaning that only half actually hit their target, but they certainly did the damage that Austin intended.

Angle rose to his feet once again, but much more awkwardly this time. Angle flipped him off before booting Angle in the stomach and looking for a stunner. Angle had it scouted though and pushed Austin off hitting a bulldog on Stone Cold afterwards. He tagged back in Regal who locked an innovated cross legged STF on Austin. The hold was putting Austin in some excruciating pain, but he wouldn’t tap. Not when a potential title shot was at stake. Austin broke the hold and tagged in Flair who had recovered slightly and was ready to dish out some punishment of his own. Regal received the red chest that so many men had received over the years from Flair and his hard knife edge chops, each once followed by a cry of Woooooo! As Flair started to strut gawkily after the damage caused earlier by Angle Austin ran across the ring and nearly took Angle’s head off with a clothesline. Flair irish whipped Regal into the corner who staggered forward into a scoop slam. Flair looked around as the crowd were all on their feet giving the legend a huge ovation. He lifted up the foot of Regal and moved from left to right from it building up the tension. Finally he twisted the legs around and locked on the figure four leglock! Regal struggled and tried everything he could to break the hold, bur Flair was incessant and wouldn’t liberate the hold as Regal renounced and began to tap.

Winner: Austin and Flair

Match Rating: B-

After the match Austin and Flair began laughing and joking in the ring as Austin gestured for some beer. Four cans flew in as Austin caught them all and threw two over to Flair. Austin cracked them open in typical Stone Cold fashion and ascended the turnbuckle drowning his face in beer. Flair, not wanting to be out done in a drinking game, did exactly the same, but not quite to the same response which proved that the WWF was Stone Cold’s home. More beer flew into the ring as the crowd were thoroughly enjoying the beer bash taking place tonight.

A video plays on the titantron informing the crowd of the incredibly personal feud between Bret and Owen Hart. It shows:

• Bret Hart interfering in the Triple Threat match at Unforgiven costing Owen his chance of making his dream of becoming WWF Champion a reality.

• Owen flipping out on the first Raw after Unforgiven and challenging Bret to an I Quit match.

• Bret and his legendary father Stu Hart arguing in the ring resulting in Bret pushing the eighty four year old over showing no remorse as Owen rushed to his father’s aid.

• Bret catching Owen in a trap as he distracts him after his match resulting in a two on one attack from the New Age Outlaws.

• Bret’s vicious attack on his brother last week. Him putting Owen’s ankle into a chair and stomping on it twice before locking on the sharpshooter to try and take Owen out before the match.

I Quit Match

Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart vs. Owen Hart

http://i47.tinypic.com/kamf5e.jpgvs.http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/2623/owenhartwa7.jpg

JR stated before the match that this was the most personal feud he had ever witness and perhaps he was right. These two ‘brothers’ would stop at nothing tonight to make the other say I quit, that was for sure. There had been a lot of talk over the past month about ending careers, breaking legs, blood, but would they actually deliver? Would they actually risk their careers to beat the other tonight and when given the chance would they actually be able to show no remorse and go through with a heinous attack if it meant the other would say those words? Bret promised us he would win, Owen promised he would so which one would do enough to make the other quit? We were about to find out.

The crowd were absolutely electric which was fitting for such a big occasion, they had sensed the fierce rivalry between the two and wanted to make this a special night in the industry. Bret Hart was greeted with thunderous booing, but he ate up the reaction looking very confidence in such a treacherous match. Bret sauntered to the ring acting as though he wasn’t bothered about when Owen would appear. That wasn’t the reaction of the 15000 sold out crowd though who after a short pause stood up and dealt Owen a huge pop as he walked intently from the back keeping his eyes glued on Bret and the ring as he walked up the ramp. The fans cheered his entrance the whole way up which was testament to how big of a fan favourite Owen had become these past five months. He had made a huge transition and Bret hated him even more for it.

The fans became even louder as Bret and Owen stepped forward staring straight into each others eyes. Owen looked as serious as he’d ever looked and completely focused as Bret let out a rye smile, lifting the side of his mouth causing Owen to scowl, but he still didn’t lose composure. The bell rang and the two backed off as Bret began to circled his arms warming up for what he knew was going to be a tough contest. Suddenly Owen charged at Bret tackling him to the mat eliciting a bigger response from the hot crowd. Punches flew in from Owen as Bret tried desperately to roll over. Finally he managed it and gained the upper hand punching Owen straight in the face. The two were brawling on the mat, hitting each other square in the face whenever possible. This wasn’t going to be the technical bout you’d expect when you saw the names Owen Hart and Bret Hart pitted against each other Far from it. This was going to be a hard fought bloody brawl. This was going to be a fight.

The men backed off after the brutal opening exchanges which certainly set the scene for what we were about to witness. The crowd cheered once again as they ran back at each other giving the fans a lesson on how to mat wrestle before the more experienced Bret gained control with a side headlock. Suplex from Bret who quickly slid out to the outside and began to look under the ring pulling out a table and ladder. He picked up the ladder, but Owen flew off the top rope with a missile dropkick into the ladder which knocked Bret off his feet. Owen went to work on Bret hitting a vertical dropkick on the outside followed by some vicious head butts which resulted in Bret receiving a small cut above the eye. Owen moved in on Bret with a steel chair, but using his speed and agility, Bret went around and grasped the waist of Owen hitting a german suplex on the outside. Neither men even attempted to thrust a microphone into the others face in hope they would say the words, they knew how much physical pain they would have to inflict before that even became a possibility.

Bret slapped on a few quick submission holds on his brother mixing his technical expertise with hard hitting wrestling. Some more punches connected on the face of Owen Hart, hard closed fist, each one hitting the same spot and each one dragged across the face upon impact. The punches were violent. Bret ascended the top rope once he had grabbed a chair from ringside and flew from the ropes kicking the chair square in the face of Owen Hart who fell backwards as though nobody was home as blood began to pour. Bret started to gauge at the wound of Owen’s head with his hand, looking to deepen it. Inflicting even more pain Bret fired Owen into the steps and at least a microphone was introduced.

Bret:
You had enough yet Owen? Say the words!

Owen:
F**k yo…

Bret battered Owen around the head with the microphone allowing the noise of the hits to ring around the arena. Blood now covered Owen’s face as it dripped down his body.

For the first time in the match apart from the start Bret and Owen made it into the ring, Bret taking the table with him and setting it up against the turnbuckle. There it was! Bret grabbed the legs and managed to turn Owen over into the sharpshooter. Owen had to break the hold, getting to the ropes wouldn’t work in this environment, there was no way that Bret would release the hold voluntarily. Owen scrunched his blood-spattered face and let out a huge cry. More blood escaped the wound as Owen tensed his face and it had to be becoming hard for Owen to see now. Giving everything he had Owen pushed up using his hands and threw Bret out of the ring with legs, but just collapsed to the mat clutching his legs.

Bret came back into the ring, but Owen hit him in the back of the knee and quickly forcing himself to his feet he locked on a sharpshooter of his own. It was hard to tell who was in the most pain; Owen was using everything he had to sty on his feet despite being locked in a pulsating sharpshooter only moments ago. Owen applied more leverage by leaning back, but extraordinarily he just couldn’t stand anymore and collapsed to the mat causing the crowd to gasp.

The two exchanged blows in the ring as both men were spaghetti legged. Each followed with a succession of chops reddening their opponent’s chest in the corner. Bret attempted to whip Owen into the opposite corner, but out of instinct Owen countered and Bret went catapulting into the table he set up their earlier. Owen stumbled over to the corner and lifted Bret onto the turnbuckle. He violently grabbed the hair of Bret and began driving his closed first into the small cut above his eye causing it to open more. One…Two…Three punches all the way up to ten as Bret wobbled on the top. ‘Bah Gawd’ was the cry from Jim Ross as Bret superplexed Owen onto the outside, his back hitting squarely on the announce table.

‘Owen was broken in half’ was the next remark to come from the mouth of JR which looking at the carnage at ringside most would say had to be true. Bret wandered over to Owen picked him up and dropped him head first on the steel barricade causing Owen’s head to sickeningly bounce off the steel eliciting stunned reactions from the WWF fans nearby. Bret flicked back his sticky, bloody hair, all clumped together before of the blood and picked Owen up a second time. DDT! Owen countered into a DDT onto one of the loose announce table TV monitors. Sharpshooter locked on from Owen. He wasted little time and went straight for it as he stumbled to a vertical base. Bret screamed again shaking his head rapidly, he wasn’t going to quit. The microphone was close to Bret’s lips courtesy of the referee, but his head continued to shake. More pressure applied from Owen resulting in pain more caused to Bret. Bret, the master of the hold, rolled through and quickly sprung to his feet and began applying a sharpshooter of his own. Owen couldn’t believe that pain had been reversed so quickly and now it was his turn to shake his head as the microphone was thrust into his face.

Owen:
Arrrggghhh, I won’t… quit!

Bret gave in, he released the hold and began to rethink his strategy.

Owen laid there, blood dripping profusely from his disfigured face as Bret sat up, also red in the face from the blood, incensed that Owen would not quit. Despite the talk the two had been engaging in nobody expected it to go this far, this physical. These two were supposed to be known for their immaculate technical approach, but we just hadn’t seen that tonight. This was something that wouldn’t look out of place in a hardcore promotion. Owen could barely stand; in fact he was only on his feet because he was propped up against Bret. He tossed his brother to the outside and began looking under the ring. Suddenly he stopped and paused for a second before looking around. His eyes fixed on
Stu Hart
who was sat front row of the crowd witnessing this brutal battle between his offspring. Bret couldn’t be thinking this, surely? His face resembled that of Jack Torrance from the renowned scene of The Shining as he moved over towards a petrified Stu. He clasped Stu and pulled him over the guardrails as everyone in the audience gasped in horror. The people around the legendary trainer couldn’t believe Bret was about to do this. He pulled the eighty four year olds legs from under him and lifted them in the air, everybody in attendance knew what was coming, but didn’t want to think it. As Bret was about to lock the sharpshooter on his own father the words ‘I Quit’ came reluctantly from the mouth of Owen who was propped up against the announce table watching on.

Owen:
You… sick... b*****d.

Winner: Bret Hart

Match Rating: B+

WWF World Heavyweight Title Match

‘The Heartbreak Kid’ Shawn Michaels © vs. Mankind

http://i49.tinypic.com/2lus9cg.jpgvs.http://img151.imageshack.us/img151/2192/mankind1998rs8.jpg

All the drama and ambiguity that surrounded the match before tonight just added to the atmosphere. The electric crowd weren’t worn out yet and had enough in them to contemplate the brilliant wrestling on show from two great performers, two men who give everything they physically can every night. It was clear as soon as Shawn Michaels stepped through the curtain that he didn’t want to be here, he thought he had wormed his way out of the match, but Funk gave Mankind this chance. One last chance to win back his WWF Championship.

Michaels utilised his quickness early to frustrate Mankind as he ducked and dived around his punches and slid under his legs after being whipped into the ropes. Mankind whipped Michaels into the turnbuckle with great velocity, but as Mankind ran towards him the arm of Michaels was raised knocking Mankind backwards. Swiftly Michaels moved out of the corner and forced Mankind there. Mankind screeched in pain as Michaels drove the back of his into his chest several times, he chops competing with the sell out crowd as the noise could probably be heard outside the arena.

Both Mankind and Michaels showed outstanding displays of psychology as the action went backwards and forth with neither men able to produce anything but a minute of offence before the other countered and proceeded to have their minute of fun.

Still no advantage for either man after such great submission work from Shawn Michaels. He was working the right hand of Mankind skilfully looking to take away that mandible claw which he knew could skill at any time. Mankind fought back though and the two began some great chain wrestling, but even then they were still so evenly matched.

Michaels sent Mankind onto the outside with a clothesline following up with a cross body as he leapt over the top rope. He locked on an arm bar on the outside, but noticed the referee had begun to count them out so he rolled the challenger back in. Michaels went straight back to the right arm with a wrist lock. As he stomped away at the hand it was clear that distress was starting to boil over on Mankind’s face and Michaels’ strategic offence was paying dividends. As Michaels whipped Mankind into the ropes he looked for a body drop, but Mankind had it scouted and hit Shawn with a facebuster. Mankind began his own show of psychology specifically targeting the right leg of Shawn Michaels one can only assume to take away the sweet chin music.

Both men had a definite body part and went to work on it every time they had a chance. If each man managed to take away the others finishing move then how would we declare a winner? In a rare attack Mankind whipped Michaels into the corner; the force flipped him upside down into a tree of woe. Mankind ran in from the side dropping the elbow onto the face of Michaels. Mankind brought Michaels back up to a wide vertical base and began hammering away as he clutched hold of the Champions head. Michaels ducked under a big clothesline and pushed at Mankind to get some separation. Sweet chin music! Mankind fell instantly, but so did Michaels. After a few second he finally managed to claw an arm over. One…Two…Thre…Mankind lifted up his shoulder.

Michaels lifted up Mankind by his hair and slammed his back down. An inverted atomic drop followed as he began to fell it. He sprung to the corner and climbed the ropes throwing himself off and connecting with an elbow to the heart of Mankind. As Michaels began to tune up the band the crowd willed for Mankind to find a way, a way to survive and a way to become WWF Champion. Mankind stood up and turned around, but managed to step backwards as the super kick missed him by inches. Mankind fell into Michaels with a huge clothesline.

Both men were laid on the canvas as the referee began to count. Each stood using the ropes for leverage. At the same time they ran at each other, Michaels bounced off the much heavy Mankind who then ran at the Champion. Michaels ducked and sent Mankind onto the apron with Michaels thinking he had sent him onto the outside. Michaels turned around into the mandible claw! Mankind came back through the ropes with the hold still applied. Michaels grabbed hold of the referee so he couldn’t see what was happening and drove his boot square in the groin of Mankind to break the hold.

With both men on their feet Michaels looked to whip Mankind into the ropes, but it was reversed with Mankind using all his power to sent Michaels crashing over the top rope. Michaels held onto the top rope and lifted up his legs as Mankind moved in towards him. He caught him in a head scissors and catapulted him onto the outside. Michaels followed up with an elbow drop to the face from the apron. He picked Mankind up by the hair and rolled him back into the ring. Mankind started to fight back with quick successive punches to the mid section and then sent Michaels into the ropes. Swinging neckbreaker from Mankind as he picked Michaels up and planted him with a piledriver. One...Two…Thr… Michaels got the shoulder up.

All the early strategy displayed from the two had been thrown out of the window. The end was near as each man looked for the finishing touch when they had a chance. They began slugging it out in the centre of the ring. Punch after punch, but nobody has enough to left to make those punches count. Michaels was fired into the ropes by Mankind who leapt up as Michaels ran under him and carried on running off the ropes. Mankind tried to catch him with a side headlock, but Michaels threw him off and instead went for a sweet chin music, Mankind caught it and swung Michaels around by his leg. Showing tremendous balance he stayed on his feet and connected with a sweet chin music with his other leg! Michaels fell on top of Mankind as the referee began the count. One…Two…Three…

WWF 1998: What if Bret had Stayed? Six Month Recap Part 1

December 1997

As the WWF came off its pay per view extravaganza that was Survivor Series the world of professional wrestling would never quite be the same again. As Bret Hart spat into the face of Vince McMahon the fans in attendance at the Bell Centre knew something was wrong, they knew the match shouldn’t have ended the way it did. Only after the show though did we find out the true extent of what had happened. Vince McMahon screwing Bret Hart who was resigned to leaving the company to join bitter rivals WCW, but Bret couldn’t leave like this. Turning down a multi year deal with WCW, Bret stayed with the World Wrestling Federation and began to plot his revenge. Throughout December Bret and Michaels exchanged words, but never fists. They were at each others throats with Bret claiming that he would get Shawn at The Royal Rumble where the retribution would only begin.

The Hart Foundation vowed to take DX down, but Bret told Owen to stay calm and their chance would present itself. Owen wondered how Bret could be so calm after the incident at Survivor Series as all he wanted to do was fight.

Triple H began a war with Bret’s brother Owen Hart as he insulted him at every opportunity. The two battled it out at In Your House with Triple H cheating to win leaving Owen livid.

Michaels had other things on his mind though as the newly crowned WWF Champion was looking to make his first defence. Mankind beat Jarrett in a No.1 Contender match for the right to face Michaels at In Your House. With Michaels constantly distracted by Bret Hart, Mankind choose to stay away from DX before the big fight which culminated in him winning the big one after years of grafting. He did however receive some help from Owen Hart would was trying to do his brother a favour by dethroning Michaels.

With Steve Austin growing in popularity week in and week out Vince McMahon knew he would want to pursue the World Title. A Title that Vince didn’t want to be associated with Austin who he believed was a no good redneck. After offering Austin the chance to change his persona and unite himself with Vince things seemed to be going well with Austin considering the offer only to propose his decision to the fans who unanimously disagreed prompting Austin to beat the hell out of his boss. Thus the war began. Momentum shifted from side to side as Vince announced he had formed an alliance with The Nation of Domination, stripped Austin of his Intercontinental Championship and placed him in a match with the unstoppable Kane. After interference from Vince McMahon, Kane continued his winning streak by beating Austin.

The oh so arrogant Jeff Jarrett claimed that he was going to rid the WWF of all its aging population. He attacked an unarmed Jerry Lawler at ringside resulting in the legend requiring medical help. The following week Jarrett attacked Gorilla Monsoon continuing his assault on the legends. The feud intensified as Lawler cost Jarrett a chance to face Michaels for the Title and also a victory against Bret Hart the following week. The two combined for a bloody hardcore match at In Your House which the egotistical Jeff Jarrett won much to the dismay of Jim Ross. Post match a new foe arrived for Jarrett in the form of Light Heavyweight Champion Jerry Lynn, he attacked Jarrett before he could inflict anymore damage to Lawler.

Kane dominated everyone that stepped in his way, but towards the end of the month people were asking questions about the absent Undertaker who hadn’t been seen since November.

A tournament began to crown a new Intercontinental Champion which was won at In your House by Ken Shamrock beating Farooq in the final.

The Tag Team Title match at In Your House saw The New Age Outlaws, now a part of DX, retaining against Bulldog and Niedhart.

The Cruiserweights were introduced to Raw with Jerry Lynn becoming the first Light Heavyweight Champion.

The Darkside consisting of The Jackal, Vampiro and Gangrel debuted at In Your House.

January 1998

The WWF entered a new year with a new Champion in Mankind who the fans had a great deal of respect for. The WWF Commissioner Sgt. Slaughter wouldn’t allow Michaels a rematch for the way him and DX had been acting so Kane became the new No.1 contender after his month of domination. Kane looked strong in the match and had Mankind beat, but as Kane opened the casket out popped The Undertaker who proceeded to destroy Kane and throw his brother in the casket.

Bret declared that Michaels’ game would be up in the Royal Rumble and he’d better hope to be eliminated before Bret got there. He said that it was Owen’s time and him, Bulldog and Niedhart would do anything to make sure he won the match. Michaels and DX began talking about a plan to win back the Title which would start at the Rumble which came to tuition during the Rumble match instelf. It came down to Bret and Owen in one corner and Michaels and Triple H in another. As Triple H moved to fight his nemesis Owen, Bret did the unthinkable, joining DX and turning on Owen. Bret and Triple H then stepped over the ropes allowing Michaels to pick up the win as litter flooded from the incensed crowd.

Sgt. Slaughter began to screw with DX for the way they had treated him in previous months, but DX just responded by saying he wouldn’t be able to stop their plan which had already worked.

Vince McMahon announced that Austin’s career would be on the line at the Royal Rumble against the whole Nation of Domination. In the weeks that followed Austin took humiliation to new levels as he continually found new ways to anger McMahon who bottled it all up knowing that Austin would be over at the Rumble. It didn’t go according to plan though for McMahon as Austin fought bravely against the odds and managed to keep his career intact following interference from a masked man.

After Jerry Lynn’s save of Jerry Lawler at In your House, Jarrett cheated in every way possible to beat Lynn on Raw and wouldn’t face him in a rematch. Instead Lynn stated he would see Jarrett in the Rumble match.

Blackjack Windham announced he would be managing his former tag team partner Bradshaw from now on after the two lost a tag match to The Darkside.

The Light Heavyweight division continued to dazzle fans with a few new workers. Sasuke looked in a league of his own though as he continued to gain new followers and push ever closer to the title held by Jerry Lynn

The Darkside led by The Jackal began to work their way up the tag ranks beating the likes of the Headbangers, The New Blackjacks and The Legion of Doom.

February 1998

After Bret’s shocking betrayal, Owen was given the choice of facing him at No Way Out or going for the Title and facing Shawn Michaels with the winner going on to the prestigious main event of Wrestlemania. After much deliberation and influence from his friends Niedhart and Bulldog he went with the latter. Sgt. Slaughter continued to frustrate DX and announced that the match would be a barbed wire steel cage match so that DX couldn’t get involved and they would find out a rightful opponent for Mankind at Wrestlemania. Bulldog and Niedhart vowed to protect Owen at all costs and get him to the match unscathed, but DX had other ideas. Niedhart kept his promise though taking a hit from a car which was heading for Owen causing the big man to be hospitalised. Following the attack on Niedhart, Slaughter continued to stick his nose in announcing that Mankind, the man who DX had attacked in recent weeks, would be special guest referee. After an hellacious effort from both men, Shawn Michaels proved to everybody that he really was the showstopper beating Owen Hart in the confines of the steel cage.

Meanwhile Vince had found himself a new lackey after The Nation couldn’t get the job done at The Royal Rumble. Sid Vicious started to accompany Vince to the ring. Sgt. Slaughter proclaimed that he was the one who employed the masked man to save Austin’s career, but Austin said he wanted nothing to do with him. He told him to stay away which gave Vince an idea. He booked another handicap match for No Way Out pitting Sid Vicous and the newly formed tag team of Vader and Bigelow against Austin and the masked man. Vince and his cronies attakced Austin at every opportunity taunting him that the masked man wasn’t coming to help and as the pay per view approached that was looking to be the case. At No Way Out though, Vince couldn’t believe his eyes as the masked man revealed himself to be his own son, Shane McMahon. Despite this the numbers game proved too much with Vince also at ringside and the three monsters beat Austin and Shane.

Undertaker explained the reasoning for his absence was that Kane abducted him and had held him hostage over the past two months. Undertaker picked up where he left off showing no signs of ring rust as he dominated opponents and looked to get inside the head of Kane with his unique mind games.

DX and Vince discussed getting rid of Sgt Slaughter who had on more than one occasion interfered in the two’s plans causing them to turn sour. Vince told DX that he would sort the situation.

After declaring he should be the face of every pay per view at the Royal Rumble, Slaughter announced that Jarrett would face Lynn at No Way Out. Jarrett then claimed to be injured blaming a beat down by Lynn and a loss to The Undertaker the week before being the reason. Slaughter gave Jarrett the option of selecting an opponent for Lynn to face at No Way Out. In an attack backstage that opponent was known to be Goldust. In a relatively easy match a focused Jerry Lynn took out all his frustrations on Goldust, but after the match recieved a beating from Jarrett who revealed he wasn't really hurt.

Blackjack Windham, the new manager of Bradshaw, seemed to be more of a hindrance than a help as he inadvertently kept costing his client matches. To help progress his own career Bradshaw had a heart to heart with his former tag team partner and told him he wanted to go it alone. It looked as though Windham understood, but then he turned on Bradshaw setting up a brutal hardcore match at No Way Out which Bradshaw managed to win.

Friction began to grow within the camp of The Nation as Farooq and Rocky Maivia found themselves facing each other in a match. Rocky showed his potential coming out on top of his mentor causing the two to have a heated argument post match.

After successful defences so far for Shamrock, Steve Williams wanted to be the next man to face the Intercontinental Champion. Shamrock told him to prove he was worthy of a shot which resulted in the fighter winning a triple threat match. After a hard fought bout Shamrock locked on the feared ankle lock to mark another defence of his title.

Great Sasuke became Light Heavyweight Champion after finally beating his friend Jerry Lynn.

Edge and Christian debuted and gained victories over some of tag teams much like The Darkside did the previous month.

WWF 1998: What if Bret had Stayed? Six Month Recap Part 2

March 1998

With the Title match for Wrestlemania now set in stone Shawn Michaels began his dirty tactics designed to cripple Mankind before hand. A short alliance was formed between Mankind, Ken Shamrock and Owen Hart who were all potentially in matches with members of DX at Mania. As Michaels tried to gain the upper hand over Mankind, Shamrock and Owen would help him out which caused further tension within DX as the pressure on Michaels grew. At Wrestlemania Mankind’s dream ended as Michaels reclaimed his Title.

With everything resting on Michaels shoulders he began to get tense before Mania and arguments began to spout out between DX members. Michaels had the World Title, Triple H wanted the IC Title and Bret had to worry about Owen, but Michaels believed they should put their feuds on hold to help him capture the gold. Bret’s attempts to resolve the situation didn’t go well as Triple H pushed him flat on his back in the car park and things seemed to be unravelling for DX. It seemed that the relationship between Triple H and Bret Hart had officially ended, but on the final show before Mania Bret helped Triple H to overcome Austin handing him an Intercontinental Title shot. All issues were resolved at Wrestlemania as DX celebrated in the ring as Shawn Michaels won back the WWF Title.

We began to see a new intense and violent side of Owen Hart as he set his sights on revenge against his brother, revenge that he hoped would take place on the grandest stage of them all, Wrestlemania. Bret started to get into the head of Owen just like Triple H had successfully done months before. Despite Owen’s in ring credentials he needed to stay more focused and not let his emotions get the better of him which he was struggling to do. Bret would take any advantage he could heading into the match though which was evident as he wrapped a steel chair across Owen’s face multiple times disqualifying himself in a tag match. Despite the injuries Owen overcame his brother in an epic match to firmly cement his place as a top wrestler in the company.

Austin continued to state that he wanted nothing to do with Shane McMahon and challenged Sid to a match at Wrestlemania which Vince accepted. Despite this though Austin saved Shane from an inevitable beat down from Sid, but he explained he was just taking the opportunity. With things still up in the air between Shane and Austin, Vince, in a bid to add that extra bite to the match, announced that he’d accompany Sid in his corner whereas Shane would be in Austin’s. Austin beat Sid at Wrestlemania and finally decided he could trust Shane as the two toasted to the crowd with beer.

Friction grew in the camp of Kane and Paul Bearer who had inadvertently attacked his monster in a tag team match. Undertaker continued to mess with Kane’s head and he continued to decimate opponents. On the go home show before Wrestlemania though it was Undertaker who was left flat out on the floor following a tombstone onto the concrete courtesy of his brother. Kane had outsmarted him, but as we were beginning the see year in and year out, a different Undertaker turned up to Wrestlemania. One that just could not be beaten and that was the case here as he folded over his brothers arms for the victory following a tombstone.

Sgt. Slaughter became even more of a thorn in Vince’s side prompting the owner to risk his stake in the booking of Raw in a one on one winner gets all match at Wrestlemania. With all interference banned Vince needed a miracle to beat Slaughter, but you knew he always had something up his sleeve. It was shades of Survivor Series as the referee called for the bell even though Slaughter hadn’t tapped; a clever rouse from Vince to get rid of Slaughter and take all creative control. At the end of the match ‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair made a surprise appearance seemingly to save Slaughter from a beat down, but instead he aligned himself with Vince much to the dismay of the crowd.

Triple H wanted the Intercontinental Title at Mania, but it would take some work to get there. He promised to take Austin out before the big event which would get him rewarded with a match with Shamrock which by itself is no easy feat. Shamrock made his most impressive defence yet over Triple H.

With Goldust helping Jeff Jarrett, Jerry Lynn looked for the same help to even the odds from his friend and Light Heavyweight Champion Great Sasuke. To further frustrate Lynn, Jarrett scored another tainted pinfall, this time over Sasuke, but Jarrett had one problem of his own, Goldust who annoyed his mentor throughout the month. After winning a tag match the week before Jarrett managed to fairly overcome Jerry Lynn at Wrestlemania following a mix up between Lynn and Sasuke.

The Nation began to move further apart which caused a drop in performance. In a bid to look strong and keep morale high, Farooq kicked out Rocky Maivia following a triple treat match for the Intercontinental Title. Rocky proceeded to beat D’lo and Kama in successive weeks before taking down the leader Farooq at Mania which also saw his transition from Rocky Maivia to The Rock.

Rhino debuted and immediately waged a path of destruction through the WWF. Every one of his opponents felt the same fate as the next. A spear like move which he called the gore.

April 1998

Vince McMahon announced a new stable which he called The Corporation consisting of himself, the newly formed Tag Team Champions Bam Bam Bigelow and Vader, the debuting Kurt Angle, Kane and Ric Flair. Vince McMahon then announced that Ric Flair would be taking over from Sgt Slaughter as WWF Commissioner.

Despite Austin deciding to give Shane a chance the relationship between the two started to generate friction as Shane wanted to seek more help, but Austin wouldn’t allow it stating he had the situation under control. As Austin was given a beating at the hands of The Corporation, Shane McMahon decided to take action and recruited the help of Ken Shamrock who then saved Austin from a further attack. When Austin had heard that Shane went behind his back he flipped on Shane and told the McMahon he wanted nothing more to do with him.

Newly crowned WWF Champion Shawn Michaels celebration party didn’t go according to plan as Owen Hart interrupted demanding a Title shot which incensed the former Champion Mankind who felt he should be give his rematch. In his first action as Commissioner Flair made a huge No.1 Contender match to happen in that night with the winner receiving a shot at Michaels at Unforgiven. Not wanting to defend the gold against either of these men, Michaels sent his Outlaws to attack both in the match resulting in a double disqualification. Michaels plan backfired though as Flair resolved the situation by simply announcing a triple threat match for Unforgiven. Mankind and Owen agreed to team up on numerous occasions to take down Michaels before the match, but each time a sneak attack from the other ended the partnership which was exactly what the Champion needed. With Michaels down at ringside, Owen Hart had the match won. He had the sharpshooter locked on Mankind who had nowhere to go until Bret Hart sprinted from the back and punted Owen in the head. The impact dropped the challenger immediately as Bret rolled Mankind out and rolled Michaels back in. A superkick followed from Michaels as Bret had screwed his brother out of being Champion.

Kane desperately wanted another meeting with his brother The Undertaker and after Taker said no, Bearer did the unthinkable to get him to agree to the match. He burned down Undertaker's home which inturn made The Deadman homeless; Taker had no option but to agree to the match and look to gain some retribution. Undertaker though had a slight twist for Kane as he proposed that because of Bearer burning down his house the match take place under Inferno conditions. The only way to win: to set fire to your opponent. Kane scored the win he’d been longing for for so long as he set Undertaker's arm a blaze.

With Owen Hart off fighting for the Title, Niedhart and Bulldog took it upon themselves to get revenge over Bret for his actions. They issued a challenge for a tag match at Unforgiven which pitted the two against Bret and Triple H. Niedhart proved to be the weak link as him and Bulldog lost the match.

Kurt Angle began tearing opponent’s limb from limb with his intense mat wrestling style. At Unforgiven he issued an open challenge for anyone on the roster to face him. The challenge was met by none other than Steve Austin who Angle had been attacking in orders from Vince McMahon throughout the month. Angle took Austin all the way showing just what a star he has the potential to become in the business, but in the end Austin managed to hit the stunner and get the win over The Corporation.

Farooq tried his best to revive the Nation with a few motivational talks, but by that time Kama and D’lo had made up their mind that their future did not lie with The Nation.

Sable and Marc Mero began to experience problems; Mero was losing matches and losing confidence which showed in the bedroom. He hunted helped from The Rock, but as the two grew closer as friends, so did The Rock and his wife Sable.

Bradshaw, Steve Williams and Jeff Jarrett faced off to declare a new No.1 Contender for Ken Shamrock’s Intercontinental Title. Jarrett scored the impressive victory and went on to beat Shamrock for his Intercontinental Title, a thought that wasn’t looking possible after his recent defences. The first thing that Jarrett did with his newly won belt was wrap it around the head of Goldust who he decided was nothing more than a hindrance, and now that he was Intercontinental Champion he saw no need for him.

Rhino was beaten by the legendary Ricky Steamboat leading to a series of brutal attacks from the Man Beast culminating in a rematch at Unforgiven which Rhino managed to win.

Great Sasuke continued to take on all comers for his Light Heavyweight Title and ended up defending in a triple threat match at Unforgiven. He wasn’t given the chance to retain though as Sean Waltman led two intimidating Mexican Light Heavyweights to the ring and the three of them proceeded to attack the worn out Sasuke and his challengers.

May 1998

After costing him the Title, Owen set his sights back on Bret as the feud intensified. Talk of broken bones and ending careers arose as Owen challenged his brother to an I Quit match. The recent improvement on the intensity of the feud prompted an appearance from the two’s father Stu Hart. Stu and Bret Hart had a powerful argument in the ring ending with Bret shoving his father to the ground showing just what he was capable of. The following week Bret used Owen’s emotions to his advantage sending out The Outlaws to attack him in the ring. To further hurt his brother and make him easier to beat in the brutal match that was coming up, Bret locked on the sharpshooter after he had won a tag match against Owen and kept the hold locked on for as long as he could until The Hart Foundation hit the ring. At Over the Edge after a bloody I quit match that saw neither man showing any signs of ushering those words. Bret pulled his father out of the crowd and signalled for the sharpshooter. The thought of his eighty four year old father locked in the excruciating hold was enough to make Owen say ‘I Quit’

As expected Mankind wasn’t happy with the way the match ended at Unforgiven and began pursuing a final shot at Michaels. He proposed a contract offer to Flair banning all outside interference during the match, but as Mankind was brutally attacked a week later Flair came up with a new contract. There was to be no attacking each other in the build to the match and no interference during the match. Mankind scored a win over Triple H allowing him to pick an opponent to face Michaels the week before the showdown. Mankind picked life long friend Terry Funk who took the Champion to the wire, but was attacked after the match, a plan that Triple H came up with knowing that Mankind would save his friend breaking the contract agreement. Terry Funk didn’t want to be the one who lost Mankind his shot and took matters into his own hands at Over the Edge kidnapping Triple H and torturing him until Michaels finally gave in and allowed the match to go ahead. Shawn Michaels just re-established what a performer he really is though beating Mankind cleaning to retain his Title and end Mankind’s hopes of winning it back.

After beating Angle at Unforgiven in a gruelling match Austin set his sights on the WWF Title requesting a shot from McMahon. It came at a price though as Vince announced a tag match for Over The Edge. Austin and a mystery partner vs. Angle and a partner with a win for Austin giving him the chance to go for the Title when he pleased. A loss however, and Austin would never receive a Title shot again. Questions were raised in The Corporation camp as to who would be partnering Angle as Angle reassured Vince that he and his partner would get the job done. William Regal arrived at Over the Edge to partner Angle forming a very dynamic duo who knew exactly how to win. However, they did not expect Austin’s partner to be ‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair who had joined The Corporation only a month prior. Angle and Regal did everything they could to stop Austin getting the Title shot, but Flair showed his resolve when at times it looked like he wasn’t going to make it and Austin came in with a stunner.

The personal feud between Undertaker and Kane took a turn for the worse this month as more fire became involved with the two hell bent on punishing the other. Undertaker stated that things needed to end and that they would do so inside cell in what would be only the second hell in a cell match in history. Kane and Undertaker continued to brawl through the arena every week before the Kane took the upper hand driving Undertaker through a glass window. It was Undertaker who got his revenge though in the cell nailing Kane with a tombstone.

Sable and The Rock continued to see each other behind Mero’s back until one day she decided to spill the truth. Mero reacted badly and waged war on The Rock. It seemed to light a fire in Mero who found a new mean streak as he began to win matches and take out The Rock at every opportunity with Sable caught in the middle. At Over the Edge Sable turned on The Rock handing him the victory via disqualification, but her return to Mero’s side would have hurt him a lot more than a defeat would have.

The Mexican Warriors took apart the Light Heavyweight division as Waltman affirmed that as soon as his neck healed up Sasuke’s Title would be his. Despite his injury though Waltman continued to play a part as he challenged Sasuke to get himself a partner and face his Mexican Warriors at Over the Edge. Marty Jannetty returned to partner Sasuke, but he turned on the Light Heavyweight Champion adding himself to Waltman’s clan.

The Intercontinental Title scene took a big turn with four men now involved. After weeks of chaos between Jarrett, Shamrock, Lynn and Goldust the four squared off at Over the Edge with Jarrett making his first defence of his Title.

After losing the match at Unforgiven Jim Niedhart decided he was at fault and announced he would be leaving the team which at first angered The Bulldog who saw Jim as a brother. Niedhart drafted in Lance Storm and declared he would now manage the team which certainly looks more dangerous now. Could this be just what The Hart Foundation need after losing out to DX on so many occasions?

Promotional videos began to air hyping up the debut of ‘The Innovator of Offence’ who would appear at Over the Edge. The wrestler in question turned out to be Chris Kanyon who tore apart legendary Ricky Steamboat, but in a great show of respect offered out his hand post match.

Bam Bam Bigelow and Vader continued their impressive Tag Titles run defeating Edge and Christian in a rematch from Unforgiven.

Thanks for the picks mate. I was just wondering who people thought would win King of the Ring before any build up had happened. It's going to be an important part of this months shows as I want to try and build up a few characters who hopefully could all have an equal chance of winning the thing once we hit the pay per view.

Anyway onto Raw, it might get a bit repetitive in terms of picks especially for the first two shows of the month because four King of the Ring matches will be held on each show. Then two on the third show, two on the fourth and the Semi's plus the Final at the pay per view.

  • 4 months later...

I've been extremely busy with exams for the past few months which is why this just stopped dead. Now I've got a lot more time I've decided to resurrect an old thread rather than starting a whole new project altogether and because I have lots of plans which I'd like to get going for this.

It's actually a good point to bring this back because I've just completed a review of what has happened so far in the game so a quick read through those (found a little further up the page) and you should have the gist of what's been going on. Hopefully people will still be interested in this after such a long absence.

What can I say? He plays a good heel. The guy was great whatever he was playing to be honest and I would love to get him into this more. I just need something interesting for him to do. You could expect a push in the future if I can figure out a program for him.

Cheers for reading though man. Thankfully I've still got everything for this intact so it's just about writing the first show of June and building towards hopefully an exciting King of the Ring tournament.

Ross: Hello folks and welcome to Raw is War. I'm Jim Ross...

*Are You Ready?*

This spelled the arrival of Degeneration X and a chance for the 12000 strong to warm up their vocal chords for the night as expressive booing could now be heard around the arena.

The whole stable came out to support the Champion on a successful title defense. With Michaels, Bret and Triple H still feeling the effects of last night perhaps Michaels thought it was best to make sure they have enough protection in case of an ambush.

Michaels: No more chances now Mankind. You couldn’t beat me, no surprise there of course, your fifteen minutes of fame is over and its time for you to step aside and allow the big boys to play. It’s a mystery how you did enough to warrant a title shot all those months ago, but then you just kept getting luckier and luckier. It was a joke! You and your title reign were a complete joke! Ha! Just thinking about it makes me laugh.

Triple H: Mankind, my man Shawn Michaels has complete control over you tonight and I’ve told him to be my guest. It’s not you that I’m bothered about tonight. I’ll be taking care of Terry Funk. Funk, you gave me your worst last night and look who’s here tonight standing in this ring as though as you did was give me a little tickle. Your old Funk and you haven’t got it in you anymore so I would seriously consider dropping out of the match. I honestly don’t know if you can take what I’m going to do to you tonight and I’m afraid my actions may put you in an early grave. As long as I get my retribution for the unspeakable things you did to me last night then I’ll be walking out of here a happy man, regardless of your status.

Michaels: Oh I’d be scared Terry. I know what Hunter is capable is. Anyway guys we’ll see you two in the main event.

The stable begin to leave, but Michaels stays still.

Michaels: SUCK IT!

Ross: Degeneration X are getting more arrogant every week. I think they need to be careful going up against two hardcore legends in their playground.

Cornette: JR when you’re as good as those guys you can do what the hell you please. I should know.

Blue Panther vs. Great Sasuke

http://i45.tinypic.com/90apvq.jpgvs.http://img398.imageshack.us/img398/8465/greatsasukeqs4.jpg

The wily veteran, Blue Panther, had clearly done his homework on his opponent as he used a fierce ground game to keep Sasuke down and away from the top rope and when Sasuke did inevitably manage to reach the top turnbuckle, Panther would sense the danger and roll out of harms way, usually to the outside. This frustrated the fans who had grown to love Sasuke’s daredevil approach as Sasuke was all about the fans which he’d proven on countless occasions in the past.

With the match being played at a slower pace it obviously favored the older more experienced wrestler who was using a variety of leg submission holds getting Sasuke ready for the terrifying standing figure four leg lock with was Panther’s finishing move. As it looked like he was about to apply the move, Sasuke counted and flipped his opponent over utilizing a dropkick instantly as Panther rose. The tides had turned as the tempo of the match began to speed up and the fans started to get behind the Champion. Sasuke, using his new found energy fueled by the fans cries, hopped up the top rope and flew off hitting a crossbody on Panther. Sasuke sprung to his feet picking Panther up in the process only for him to be dropped again as Sasuke nailed the Michinoku Driver.

Winner: Great Sasuke

Match Rating: C

The Intercontinental Champion Jeff Jarrett strolled out from the back, already mic in hand, to a chorus of boos from the WWF fans.

Jarrett: Quit with all the noise slapnuts. Your Intercontinental Champion is speaking.

This sparked a sudden surge in the booing which didn’t last long and then finally died out.

Jarrett: Okay, so I think you’d all agree if I said that you’re all looking straight at the future of his company. A very talented man and somebody who is about to receive a shot at that WWF Heavyweight title any day now. So why the f**k am I not in the King of the Ring tournament?!?

He pauses for a moment, mainly to allow the crowd to react to his earlier statement.

Jarrett: Now I don’t want to be out here long, maybe because I’m getting sick of looking at all your faces out there, so I’m going to get to the point. I would like one you slapnuts who is undeservedly in the tournament to come out here and hand there place over to your Intercontinental Champion.

http://img55.imageshack.us/img55/8081/kenshamrockxt7.jpg

After a brief pause the music of Ken Shamrock rings out and he quickly makes his way to the ring.

Cornette: Ha! I knew Shamrock was scared of Jarrett. He’s gonna hand over his shot.

Ross: I don’t think it’ll be as simple as that Jim.

Shamrock: You want my King of the Ring place, huh?

Jarrett: Doesn’t have to be yours Ken, although you are undeservedly in the tournament.

Shamrock: (nodding) Undeservedly yeah? I don’t see that Jeff. I think you were lucky as hell to take my title and you’re the one who needs to prove they deserve the place. All that said, I’m going to give you my shot Jeff.

Jarrett: You know it’s the right thing to do Ken…

Shamrock: Hey, let me finish Jeff. Just because you’ve got that gold round your waist doesn’t mean you can stop using manners. I’ll give you my place, IF, you can beat me one on one right now!

Jarrett: No! You give me your place or I swear down!

Shamrock: It’s all I’m giving you Jeff and you better think yourself lucky you’re getting this. All I’ll be getting out of it is an opportunity to kick you ass.

Jarrett: Fine! Fine! Let’s do it! You’ve just made one big mistake.

Non Title Match

Jeff Jarrett vs. Ken Shamrock

http://i31.tinypic.com/34e6g0k.jpgvs.http://img55.imageshack.us/img55/8081/kenshamrockxt7.jpg

Ken Shamrock began tossing Jarrett around with consummate ease in the early going. The two were engaged in some nice chain wrestling in the centre of the ring and as they separated away the crowd began to cheer to great display only for Jarrett to grab a microphone he’d left on the steps.

Jarrett:
I don’t need to do this. I’m the Intercontinental Champion for god sakes. I shouldn’t even ask to be in the tournament. My name should have been first on the god damn list!

Jarrett slammed down the microphone and began retreating to the back as Shamrock looked on in astonishment before giving chase. Meanwhile the referee had reached a ten count.

Winner: Draw via double countout

Match Rating: C

The match wasn’t over there though as Shamrock caught up with Jarrett clotheslining hard onto the metal ramp. He locked on the ankle lock causing Jarrett to squirm and wriggle around trying with all his might to break it, but Shamrock was having too much fan and so were to fans for that matter. They loved seeing the arrogant Intercontinental Champion punished. Shamrock finally relinquished the hold, made one final salute to the fans and then walked on into the back.

King of the Ring First Round

Christian vs. ‘Man Beast’ Rhino

http://img92.imageshack.us/img92/5543/christian1998lt5.jpgvs.http://i35.tinypic.com/2saf28o.jpg

Christian was fixated to the spot as Rhino stood there beating his chest and frantically shaking. He was ready and saw this as his opportunity to get himself noticed. The start of the match saw Christian hurriedly running from one end of the ring to the other as Rhino just charged at him, his enormously thick legs just beating against the canvas as he did. Christian managed to trip Rhino up on one specific charge and went to work with a simple, but effective single leg Boston crab. He was trying to take the power away from the beast. Christian however began to get a little bit ****y and started playing up to the crowd. Big mistake because as he turned away he was smashed into pieces by Rhino.

Winner: Rhino

Match Rating: D

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

After the commercial break we cut straight to backstage where Rhino is causing havoc. Spear after spear is being handed out to wrestlers and members of the ring crew, some while their enjoying a hot coffee or a hotdog. After close to a dozen spears Rhino decides he’s done enough damage and heads off down the corridor.

Lawler: Look at the carnage backstage! Rhino is my tip to win this tournament.

Cornette: There is simply nobody who can stop him. You’re looking at the next WWF Champion.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

http://i49.tinypic.com/2eeh4pz.jpg

The Rock comes down to the ring first ready to cut a promo on Vader.

The Rock: Finally The Rock has come back to Idaho! Now The Rock is about to embark on journey, a journey to become the next King of the Ring! The Rock will join people likes Don Muraco and Harley Race when he whips the candy ass of everybody else in this tournament.

The Rock pauses to raise his eyebrow and lift his sunglasses.

The Rock: British Bulldog. Your big, you’re strong, you’re quite the athlete, but you’re also quite the jabroni. Oh The Rock tells the truth Bulldog, but The Rock says that you can’t beat The Rock and win King of the Ring. No! No! No! The Rock will kick your candy ass just like the rest of them.

He pauses once again.

The Rock: Rhino. The Man Beast. Now The Rock won’t judge, he doesn’t do that, but The Rock will say this, Man Beast. If that’s the kind of stuff you’re into Rhino then you can do that in your own time no problem. Hell if you enjoy it then god dammit The Rock encourages it, but one thing The Rock wants to make clear is that you’re not going to gain a sense of pleasure from the beating that The Rock will lay upon your rudi poo candy ass if you have to go ONE ON ONE with The Great One.

The Rock pauses a third time to adjust his glasses.

The Rock: Triple H. Hunter Hearst Helmsley. HHH. Whatever you call yourself, you’re always going to be the same old jabroni you always have been. Oh and that nose, that nose! You need to get that nose out of Shawn Michaels’ ass right now because The Rock swears it’s that big he can see it when Shawn opens his mouth to talk. Joking aside Hunter because you’re the one The Rock fears the most. Oh yes I’m afraid it’s true, The Rock is scared of Triple H. The Rock is scared of the ‘Greek god like’ body you have somehow managed spawn, genetics eh Hunter? The Rock is scared of the pedigree, but most importantly and this is the main reason. Really Hunter forget about those other two rudi poo reasons because this is the one. The Rock is scared of how he’ll let the millions and MILLIONS of The Rock’s fans down when he lays the smacketh down on your candy ass inside one minute of the King of the Ring final after they were expecting a classic. It’ll be too easy for The Rock.

The Rock: But that’s all for another night because tonight infront of the millions and MILLIONS of The Rock’s fans Vader is going to be The Rock’s easy pass to the second round. So Vader drag your big fat ass and gigantic man boobs out to this ring and whatever you do please oh please don’t take your shirt off and let The Rock Rock Bottom your candy ass, ooh we may need to reinforce the ring if we want to us later on. If ya smell lalalowww what The Rock is cooking!

King of the Ring First Round

Vader vs. The Rock

http://i48.tinypic.com/6xt7y0.jpgvs.http://i49.tinypic.com/2eeh4pz.jpg

The tag team Champion had grown in confidence in recent months with his dominant partnership with Bam Bam Bigelow and his new found home in the Corporation, but so had The Rock. He’d broken away from The Nation, beaten his former mentor at Wrestlemania, overcame the giant Sid Vicious and most importantly had nearly every single one of the fans backing.

Despite Vader’s enormous strength, size and surprising agility The Rock was just too much for him and he electrified his fans with speed and athleticism. Vader’s downfall came when he tried to catch The Rock with an aerial attack, but he instead reversed it into an impressively huge Rock Bottom.

Winner: The Rock

Match Rating: C+

The camera pans backstage where Vince McMahon’s shouts and screams can be heard way down the corridor. He appears to be shouting at Kurt Angle and William Regal.

Vince: WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT LAST NIGHT!! YOU TOLD ME YOU HAD IT COVERED KURT!! YOU TOLD ME YOU HAD THE PERFECT TAG TEAM PARTNER!! THAT YOU DIDN’T NEED MY HELP!! YOU TWO EMBARRASSED THIS GROUP LAST NIGHT AND YOU DON’T GET MANY MORE CHANCES!! GOD DAMMIT!!! I HATE AUSTIN SO MUCH!!

Angle: Boss, we’re sorry about that, but you have to understand that we weren’t expecting Ric Flair to defect and join that ball headed son of a b***h. You trusted Flair completely and even gave him the general manager role. He has as much authority as you now so excuse me for saying this boss, but I think you made quite a big mistake.

Vince: (now calmer) I haven’t made any mistakes Kurt. None at all and I’ll prove it you if I have to although I shouldn’t need to.

Vince goes over to his draw gets out a piece of paper and throws it at Angle. Regal leans over to see what it says.

Vince: There! I always have a plan Kurt and you should know that. I just don’t know what to do with you two.

Regal: Just give us a chance to make up for this mess Mr. McMahon. It did take us by surprise to see Ric Flair walk through that curtain so it probably threw us off our game a little bit.

Vince: You two have got a month to show me you can get the better of Austin and Flair or… You’re Fired!

Angle and Regal nod at Vince and then leave the room as Vince stuffs the piece of paper in his pocket and slumps into a comfortable arm chair ready to watch Angle and Regal in action.

Lawler: I wonder what the piece of paper said?

Ross: I can’t answer that King, but it sure got Vince off the hook with his team.

'The Wrestling Machine' Kurt Angle and 'The Street Fighter' Williams Regal vs. Legion of Doom

A match in which two very different styles collided, but only one of them was effective. Legion of Doom’s power was subdued by Angle’s intense technical approach as he utilized suplex after suplex to take them down while Regal would also offer an intense style with his hard hitting kicks and punches and almost violent holds. The match ended after Angle forced Animal to tap to the ankle lock. After the match The Road Warriors simply exchanged a glance which told the whole story. They knew they didn’t have much left in the tank.

Winners: Angle and Regal

Match Rating: C+

http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/2623/owenhartwa7.jpg

The crowd let out a huge roar as fan favorite Owen Hart intensively marches out from the back sporting a mean look on his face. Last night he lost to his biggest enemy, his brother Bret, under some very controversial circumstances and it was quite clear from his expression that he hadn’t forgotten what Bret had done.

Owen: You all saw what my bro… no I can’t call him that anymore. You all saw what Bret did last night so I’m not going over the sick details. Some of you are probably having trouble believing what a heartless b*****d he has become, but for me he’s changed for good. I expected him to do something he was going to regret last night, but not attack his own father. A defenseless old man. Arrrrggghhh!

Owen starts shaking his head, the emotion getting to him. He takes a moment to compose himself before starting to speak again.

Owen: Bret I’ll accept that you won last night. I said the words, but that makes us even. One all. I won at Wrestlemania and you won at Over the Edge. I’m proposing one final match. One match to end it all and prove who really is the best.

http://i47.tinypic.com/kamf5e.jpg

Suddenly booing and hissing is all that can be heard around the arena as Bret ‘The Hitman’ Hart appears on the titantron smiling at an irate Owen Hart.

Owen: Bret you coward. Quit hiding in the back and come out and look me in the eye.

Bret: I’d rather not Owen. I don’t see any need for me to be out there when all you need is a simple yes or no.

Owen: So which is it?

Bret takes in a big breath and looks around.

Bret: No.

Owen: No? What do you mean no?

Bret: I’m not wrestling you again Owen. I’ve had enough of being next to your name on the card. It’s embarrassing getting stuck facing you when I should be going against the bigger stars of this company. As I’m the best there is, the best there was and the best there ever will I don’t think my extraordinary talent should be wasted on pathetic wrestlers such as yourself so I will not be wrestling you again. Nobody can make me and I think you should just stop this weird obsession you have with me and move onto things more at you level. You know, go wrestle on Sunday Night Heat. So that’s that Owen. I destroyed you last night and for me that’s all I needed to do. Good day to you Owen and remember… SUCK IT!

Bret motions a crotch crop at Owen before vanishing from the screen. Owen steps out of the ring and begins wrecking the announce table and everything around reminiscent to that of his brother at Survivor Series last year.

Lawler: Owen is clearly not happy and I can understand why.

Cornette: He’s a little baby and always will be. Why did he have to destroy all our equipment for the night?

Marc Mero w. Sable vs. Edge

http://i25.tinypic.com/1zpmalw.jpgvs.http://img521.imageshack.us/img521/949/edge1998lk4.jpg

The bright young star Edge was said to be the better prospect of the two brothers and he did a lot to support that argument here. Unfortunately for him he came up against an impromptu handicap match or so it seemed as Sable kept sticking her nose in at every opportunity which led to her effectively decided the match. She gave Edge a pretty hard low blow as he cannoned back off the ropes causing him to fall to the ground. Mero ascended the top rope and hit a remarkable shooting star press he called Marvelocity for the tainted victory.

Winner: Marc Mero

The newly formed duo or ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin and ‘Nature Boy’ Ric Flair makes their way down to the ring to a huge reception. Austin gives the fans his signature Stone Cold salute and Ric Flair provides them with some fancy strutting and loud ‘Woooo’s’.

Flair: Woooooooo!!! Somebody told me there was a party here tonight in Woooo! Boise, Idaho! Oh don’t worry we’ll be partying, but first of all we did to sort something’s out. First of all, Vince McMahon, pal, you just got played! Woooooo!!! And now Vince you share a 50% split in this company with yours truly so finally some justice can be restored. You see Vince it was Steve Austin himself who persuaded me to come here and help him out and I knew you didn’t have a lot of people you could trust around here anymore so becoming the new Commissioner was pretty easy. I wasn’t expecting you to give me the position so soon though brother, but you surprised me and now me and Austin form a partnership with one sole goal in mind. To bring you down pal. Wooooo! To get rid of you once and for all Vince. Because diamonds are forever pal and so are the ‘Nature Boy’ and ‘Stone Cold’. Woooooooooo!!!!

Austin: I’ve got one pretty major thing I want to say Vince. After I was done kicking those two mealy mouthed sons of bitches into ground last night I got home, drank a beer, ate a nice burger and then went to sleep. I woke up this morning, drank another beer, ate a big fry up and then remembered something. I remembered the stipulation on our little match from last night. If I won I get a shot at the WWF World Heavyweight Title.

This is met from a huge pop from the crowd.

Austin: That’s right I’ve got a title shot, but I don’t intend to use it at King of the Ring. Nah me and Ric did some talking this morning and for all the help he’s given me I thought he deserved some gold around his waist so at King of the Ring we want to go up against Bigelow and Vader with the titles on the line.

*No Chance*

Vince walks angrily from the back and joins Austin and Flair in the ring.

Vince: You want the tag team titles? Well there’s no way in hell you’re going to get them because my boys will break you two in two. You’ve got your shot!

The crowd pop in anticipation of the match.

Vince: Now ‘Nature Boy’ you’re right, you did play me. I had no idea you was working with Austin, but there is one last thing I’d like to show you. Look up at the screen.

A piece of paper appears on the screen; probably the one Vince showed Angle and Regal earlier. It reads at the top:

Ric Flair’s World Wrestling Federation Contract

The paper moves all the way down to the bottom to a very small part which begins to be magnified so it’s readable. It reads:

If the owner of the World Wrestling Federation wishes to remove the WWF Commissioner from power at any time then he has the authority to do so.

The action returns to the ring where Vince is wearing an enormous smile and Flair and Austin are shaking their heads, speechless.

Vince: So Ric I think you might be able to guess what I’m about to say. I Vincent Kennedy McMahon, owner of the World Wrestling Federation hereby remove you Ric Flair from your post as WWF Commissioner. Thank you and good night.

Vince McMahon strides into the back still wearing a huge grin. The party that Flair had promised doesn’t seem to be going ahead.

Ross: I can’t believe it! This is bah gawd not fair dammit.

Cornette: Not fair! Vince is just too smart for them. Do you honestly think Austin and Flair can match him in that department?

King of the Ring First Round

Bam Bam Bigelow vs. British Bulldog w. Jim Niedhart

http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/346/bambambigelowku3.jpgvs.http://i27.tinypic.com/1zmkuhl.jpg

The new modified position of Jim Niedhart was in full flight here as he accompanied British Bulldog to ring as his manager looking to give him to edge against a tough opponent and one half of the tag team Champions Bam Bam Bigelow. It was difficult to separate the two in the early stages, both very powerful wrestlers and had come to match well prepared.

Bigelow enjoyed a nice period of offense after finally breaking the resistance that Bulldog was showing. He displayed his tremendous strength and power for all to see when he hoisted Bulldog up for an inch perfect delayed vertical suplex holding the 260 pounder in the air for a few seconds before dropping him on the mat.

Bigelow’s offense wouldn’t last much longer though as Niedhart willed his client and friend on from the sidelines. He didn’t want to get involved. It wasn’t that kind of agreement. He was there for support and that alone. Bulldog began to get fired up and knocked Bigelow into the ropes with a huge right hand and as he bounced back picked him up connecting with simple slam. After some nifty wearing down of Bigelow from The Bulldog he managed to hit a running powerslam and progress to the next round.

Winner: British Bulldog

Match Rating: D+

Hardcore Match

'The Sick and Sadistic' Terry Funk and Mankind vs. 'Heartbreak Kid' Shawn Michaels and Triple H

http://i50.tinypic.com/wcojfl.jpghttp://img151.imageshack.us/img151/2192/mankind1998rs8.jpgvs.http://i49.tinypic.com/2lus9cg.jpghttp://img204.imageshack.us/img204/7406/tripleh1998mt7.jpg

It was clear as they slowly made their way to ringside that WWF Champion Shawn Michaels and Triple H were scared and they had the right to be. It was well known that Terry Funk was the undisputed king of these matches, nobody would argue against that and if that wasn’t enough to be scared of, the night before he had taken Triple H hostage and done unspeakable things to harm him and force Michaels into giving Mankind his title shot. He was one crazy man and if a wrestler wasn’t scared in their situation then they simply weren’t a human being.

To frighten Michaels and Triple H even more, Terry Funk came accompanied with a baseball bat wrapped completely in piercing barbed wire. He used it straight away to cut open the back of the Champion aswell as the arm of Triple H who were both probably feeling the effects of barbed wire for the very first time. Mankind sat back and allowed Funk to rip the two apart with the bat before getting in on the action himself taking an already wounded from the night before Triple H to one side and flinging him shoulder first into the guardrail.

For the next few minutes the match was total mayhem and the fans loved every second. Funk was showing the WWF fanbase just how a hardcore match should be fought and did things that the fans just couldn’t believe as Michaels and Triple H had no answers. They couldn’t deal with the violence dished out by the two hardcore legends. Michaels tried his hardest to fight it, but the simple truth was that however old Terry Funk was, he was the freshest man. Michaels and Mankind had had a long drawn out battle only hours before and didn’t have anywhere near the time needed to fully recover. Triple H was just a bloody mess by this point, his wounds inflicted at the hands of Funk last night had been opened up very easily and made even worse. His chances of winning the King of the Ring tournament where diminishing with every swing of the barbed wire covered bat.

It was the WWF Champion Shawn Michaels who made a breakthrough. Many in the audience could argue against his morals and how he went about his work, but nobody would dare question his will and determination. The man was truly an amazing athlete, probably the best in the company. With a bloody crimson mask sticking to his face he ducked a chair shot from Mankind and dropkicked him in the back onto the ropes. The chair cannoned off the ropes catching the former WWF Champion square in the face causing a big gush of blood to fall from his nose. Mankind was now helping Degeneration X to paint the World Wrestling Federation ring canvas.

No matter how many times you have felt barbed wire cutting and tearing away at your skin, you just couldn’t prepare for the pain as it made contact. Mankind had been hit so many times with barbed wire that he probably felt a strong bond with it, but the pain etched on his face as Michaels swung the bat hard into his ribs were clear for all 12000 fans in attendance to see. A couple more shots were handed out by Michaels leaving Mankind clutching his ribs and panting heavily. The bared wire had torn his shirt so much that you could just see a small bit hairy red belly peeping through.

With Triple H restrained on the outside, Terry Funk made his way to help his fallen comrade. Michaels didn’t see the veteran coming and was caught his a vicious clothesline sending him to the mat. Funk strolled over to Mankind, flicked his sticky long hair back and stretched out a hand to help Mankind to his feet. Mankind staggered to his feet with help from Funk, still holding his battered ribs. Funk stared coldly at Mankind for a moment seriously contemplating something. He shook his head, took a deep breath and nestled Mankind’s head in between his legs. Texas Piledriver!! Funk had betrayed his friend!! The booing was unanimous as Funk didn’t even look back at Mankind and starting walking towards the curtain, his head held down to the floor as he did. He didn’t even look back as referee Earl Hebner began a three count. Why had Funk done this?

Winners: Michaels and Triple H

Match Rating: B

With the match over, the fans continue to aim their boos at Terry Funk who is no longer in sight. This changes though as Mankind hoists himself to his feet and can’t quite believe what has happened. He rolls out of the ring and then just collapses at the announce table joining Triple H who is also down in very static pose. EMT’s rush out to help and Michaels stands in the ring holding his title high above his head. Suddenly the lights fade out to complete darkness.

When they return The Undertaker is stood about a foot away from a terrified Shawn Michaels just staring at his WWF Title before motioning that he wants the belt around his waist. Michaels quickly rolls out of the ring and doesn’t even stop to check on Triple H as he moves as fast as he can down the ramp.

Ross: Bah Gawd! The Deadman wants the WWF Title!
