So has anyone picked up the new Justice League #1 yet or are planning on getting it? I'm curious to see what you guys think of it. I've heard mixed things and I'm tempted to get it myself.

I'm probably looking forward to Batman, Detective Comics and Green Lantern from the New 52 the most. I have yet to venture into DC but I was a bit skeptical about the 'reboot'. I guess it gives me a good chance to dive in though.

So who are the members of the rebooted JLA

Since I only knew the main team, I checked Wikipedia to get a more complete list...

The starting line-up of the team will consist of Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Green Lantern (Hal Jordan), Aquaman, the Flash (Barry Allen), and Cyborg, with the Atom (Ryan Choi), Hawkman (Carter Hall), Firestorm, Green Arrow, Aquaman's wife Mera, Deadman, recently created character Element Woman, and Lady Luck, a revamp of the Golden Age character, as additional members.

Just finished Volume 2 of Haunt. Such a fantastic read. Gonna try and track down the rest of the individual issues now.

I also read that Kirkman is trying to find a way to make a Haunt movie or a TV show. I'd be sooo pumped for that.

Haunt has become one of my favorite comic characters. I love the banter between Daniel and Kurt. It's like a combination of Venom, Spider-Man, and Spawn who happen to be three of my top ten characters, maybe even top five.

So today I went to my first comic book shop. It's the nearest one near me and roughly a 30-45 minute drive away. Anyways, it was well worth it. Really neat place. Had tons of other collectible stuff. I will definitely shop there again.

Anyways, I picked up Justice League #1, Captain American and Bucky #620, Amazing Spider-Man #668 and Criminal Vol. 1 (Coward) 30% off its retail. Really looking forward to reading Ed Brubaker's and Sean Phillips' Criminal series. So happy I found the first volume on sale!

Now that we're a couple of weeks into the DC reboot... it's pretty awful. It's not consistent what's a hard reset and what's only slightly changed, the writing has for the most part appeared rushed and mediocre, the art varies pretty wildly the way putting out 52 books naturally tends to. Seriously why is DC so fixated on that number? Why not put out 13 books a month so that it would be somewhat feasible to read all of these things and also maybe you could focus on them being good?

I mean I guess this should be what folks like Cappy dreamed of: a bunch of disposable, mediocre comics that are $3 now, but the majority of which will be in a $1 bin in a couple of years. No worries about these comics being "too good."

I ordered more comics today. The Walking Dead Vol 7 HC and Crossed Vol 2 TPB hopefully will arrive soon. I also bought some more numbers of Path of the Assassin.

So with the official Avengers trailer out, what's up with the schmuck looking Hawkeye?

I mean, Hawkeye already seems like he's going to be a hard sell next to Hulk, Iron Man, Cap, and Thor who are coming off of their own movies, but then they've just got this unimpressive looking Hawkeye to boot. They're going to need to have him doing some pretty goddamned amazing stuff if they want to avoid the "why'd you let a guy with a bow into this team?" situation

Isn't it the same guy who played him in Thor?

Anyway, as a...casual, I guess...comic book fan, I can probably answer this for you. I don't really have any idea who Hawkeye is, other than that he's a dude with a bow and arrow. I think I have an Avengers book where he comes back from the dead and turns into a ninja. And he's called Clint Barton? Burton? That's genuinely all I know about him, and I'm a nerd. I expect that a large portion of the people who see that trailer, and the film itself, will remember him as 'the guy with the bow and arrow from Thor' if at all.

The selling points are gonna be Iron Man, Hulk, Thor and Cap...then you have Samuel L Fury and the pretty red head lady...that's more than enough. I'm guessing Hawkeye is gonna be filler/background, lest they fall into the X-Men 3 trap of flooding the screen with as many characters as possible.

Have the villains been confirmed yet, outside of Loki?

It is in fact two time academy award nominee Jeremy Renner playing Hawkeye; not sure what you mean by "shmuck." It looks like more of the "Ultimate" version of the Avengers in general, so they'll most likely keep Hawkeye as a background character who gets a moment of two of doing something amazing, similar to his treatment in Millar's Ultimates.

Ah yeah, I get that it's Hurt Locker guy, but from the trailer he just looks like some out of place schmuck compared to everyone else. I suppose it wouldn't be the case if the character was actually featured somewhere prominently leading up to the Avengers, but as for now it's more of a "Yeah you remember these guys, right?! Oh and here's a guy with a bow."

It would be a nice idea if this movie is the launching platform for the character, although I imagine the film will already have its hands full trying to juggle the balls of all the major characters in whatever its runtime is

Actually in the comics Hawkeye is very well respected. Sort of marvels version of green arrow. And he is a good team leader and has led other teams besides the avengers.

Will they portray him this way in the movie,i sure hope so.

Here is a link to possible other villains being in the movie or having cameos leading into other avengers movie.

Warning may contain possible spoilers on upcoming Avengers movie

I never really got into comic books in my childhood, was too busy with sports and video games to really get into them. Just went out and bought my first ever comic books today. I was reading about the New 52 from DC and it seemed like a good point to jump in since I didn't know hugely detailed backstories for most of the comics. I quite a bit about Batman, but that's about it for DC.

I went ahead and started with 4 series, Detective and Action Comics, Batman and Superman. Those four seemed like the best place to start since Batman and Superman are cornerstones of comic books and the two I'd likely be most interested in. I really enjoyed them a lot and am looking to expand to maybe 8-10 of the DC 52. Anybody have any suggestions on any other one's from DC?

That's good to hear. I just recently got into comics too and I'm so glad I did.

As for suggestions of the other DC titles, I have a few. I have 10 DC comics on my pull list myself: Action Comics, Animal Man, Aquaman, Batman, Detective Comics, Flash, Green Lantern, Justice League, Nightwing and Swamp Thing.

Animal Man is probably my favorite #1 issue I read (next to Batman). It would qualify as a superhero comic but also in the horror genre as well. It's very different from the others I've read and just a very good read. I got Animal Man #2 coming in the mail here in the next few days. Can't wait to read that. To go along with Animal Man, I would also suggest Swamp Thing. It's written by Scott Snyder who also writes the Batman series for the DC New 52 which you have. He's a GREAT writer and made me a fan of Swamp Thing. These two books will be having a crossover story arc starting next year I think, so it's kind of neat to read both, but you don't HAVE to.

Justice League would probably be a good one for you as it includes the DC's most popular superhero team. Get a little taste of all of them. Superman, Batman, Green Lantern, Wonder Woman, Flash, Aquaman and Cyborg. I only read issue #1 and hopefully will be getting issue #2 shortly. The first issue was OK. It wasn't bad in my opinion, but it wasn't great either. Seems they are introducing the characters in small portions so it could be awhile before the Justice League team is in full force.

Nightwing (Dick Grayson) is a Batman related comic. He's part of the 'Bat Family' and use to portray Robin and also had a stint being Batman too while Batman (Bruce Wayne) was 'away'. Nightwing/Grayson is one of my favorite characters of all time (even though I'm still rather new to comics).

I liked Green Lantern as well. It's a good jumping on point and especially interesting since Sinestro is part of the Green Lantern Corps again. While it's a good jumping on point, if you don't know anything about Green Lantern, it's a little confusing.

Have yet to read Flash or Aquaman yet, but heard many good things about them that it made me decide to try them out. I'm late at getting them, but they too will arrive shortly.

There are a few other books I wanted to get but never did. Hopefully someone else here will have some suggestions.

:)

They need to play up his uncanny accuracy as much as they can, and even then he's bound to fall flat next to guys like Thor and Iron-Man. But I see Black Widow as being even worse, her strongest "power" is being insanely hot. Which she, granted, does really well. But still.

I hope we'll see Ant-Man and Vision in a possible sequel. Scarlet Witch and Quicksilver would be even more awesome, but I foresee licensing issues with Fox.

I think Loki will be the main villain, leading an alien invasion on earth. The Kree or the Skrull would be interesting candidates, but I could see them go with the Frost Giants from Thor instead due to Loki's ties there. It would be awesome if they throw in some other known villain as a secret cameo of sorts, though.

just finished Neonomicon by Alan Moore, with art by Jacen Burrows who stuff i love, quite a good read apart from half way in it turns a bit pornographic

much like Alan Moores other series but can't remember what its called involves Alice In Wonderland and Dorothy

I've been out of comics for awhile now. Alan Moore is still doing stuff?? If so I'm in. The man's a borderline psychopath but who wouldn't want to take a little glimpse inside that head?

A great thinker and a great artist. I love his work.

i'm a bit meh with Alan Moore, he is a mad genius but some of his stuff just feels like he tries a bit too hard to be out there and depressing,

i am not really into Marvel and DC as much as others but i love my comics like 2000ad and Gore and Shriek

Love and Rockets is also my favorite series of all comic book related stuff, nearly passed out when i saw it was all packages into volumes now
