Apparently pathfinding is not these NPC hirelings' strong suit. Have lost Lydia multiple times on most dungeon delving trips. Sometimes she runs into crap we have not cleared and, well, it gets ugly haha

Odd thing is they always seem to find you. I lost one of them for a good ten minutes after I jumped my way down a mountain range. I paused to look at something and I saw someone running up behind me. Thinking it was the Dark Brotherhood I drew my sword and was about to strike them, then I realized it was my hired gun who had caught up to me.

Not done that one yet. Will keep an eye out for it.

Do any of you guys play as a female character?

Nope I hardly ever play as a female character in any games. About the only one I do is the Sims games.

Yes, the logic is there for them to find you. But it is kind of funny when it is literally a 2 foot drop from a ledge and they take the 6 mile hike around just to get to me..... :D

On of the downsides about finishing up a house move and working dodgy hours is that it takes a lot of time away from gaming.

I have however managed to get up to Lv10. Been mucking about since the loud shout at Whiterun.

Had a pretty nervewracking moment when i took a quest to free someone, did it and then found that he wanted me to escort him back to Rorikstead... I'd not been there before and had to try find my way there whilst defending the pair of us against various baddies.

I just did a quest were I had to rescue someone and had another guy tagging along as well. We went through a trap door to get out of the building, then the pair of idiots ran straight at a frost troll both were unarmed and it was only ever going to end with their deaths.

The randomness is pretty cool on this game especially seeing the AI fight against itself. Had dragons land near mammoths and attack them making the giants fight and quite easily kill the dragon. Have been outside a bandit camp when a dragon attacked when it landed most of its energy was gone after constant arrow fire from the bandits.

I remember the first time I killed a giant. I had been attacked by a dragon, and so had the giant. Wheeee! So the dragon died pretty easily. Then I saw the giant from far away and thought it might be like a bandit close up. He saw me as I ran up to him, and I was pooing myself because I didn't want to get punted. Turns out, shields work really good at level 20+ again giants.

Kinda miffed the game threw werewolves and vampires at me within a few minutes of each other. Space it out, man. This ain't Twilight.

I like the random elements of the game, you could just as easily have had vampires and dragons thrown at you instead.... :)

Just installed about 30 mods and did some major .ini tweaking (for about the 100th time). The game looks awesome and it's hell fun. Runs at 40-60 fps outdoors (30fps sometimes thanks to the inconsistent game engine) and 50-120 fps indoors on my SLI GTX570 rig.

Also found a funny parody of the Skyrim trailer:

This has to be the first game I've ever played in which I randomly stop to admire the game environment and take screenshots :)

You've *just* discovered Toby Turner? Welcome to the party, man. You're a little late, the cake's all gone. I thought everyone knew? Everyone certainly should.

To be fair to Bethesda, it kinda depends where you go and what you do. I didn't see vampires for aaaaaages (turns out there's quite a few right near where you start, but I didn't happen to go that way).

The werewolves can be a bit sudden, though, considering they're part of a quest that a lot of people will do very early in the game... Of course, it could've been different vampires/werewolves you saw, such is the nature of the game.

Haven't had that yet but I did have a bear, giant and dragon all in the same area. I picked off the bear with my bow, avoided the giant and I couldn't get to the dragon in time before it flew out of range.

I can't speak for other play-styles, but being a mage gets pretty fun once you're skilled enough to not be on the verge of dying every time a spider wanders by. You still have low health and could be hurt pretty badly if something were to get past your stoneflesh, mercenary help, and conjured daedra, but in the meantime you're casting two-handed destruction spells that can kill a giant in about 5 shots.

My son plays the game alot. He showed me his mage/warrior (don't know what he called him). He can transform into a wolf, has dragon armor he created (on his mercenary as well), can fight or cast, seems to like fighting more.

Other then that, I don't know much about the game. Looks like a high tech Zelda game to me though.

I don't know about anyone else... but I'm playing Oblivion. Only recently got it after I bought myself a second hand laptop capable of running it and then saved up some pennies to buy some games too. I have a question for other players of the game because I'm not sure if it's just my playing stlye in the Elder Scrolls games or something that happens to a lot of people...

Am I the only person whose Alchemy skill is always way higher than all of my other skills?

I mean, early on it's a helpful way to make money and from experience in my first couple of Morrowind games I knew to make sure alchemy was a major skill for my Oblivion character since I was going to find lots of wild ingredients, steal lots more not-so-wild ingredients and turn them into potions to make profit. In this save I hit master alchhemy skill with only one other skill even at journeyman level... and while I'm now rolling in gold thanks to the ability to buy ingredients for 2 gold and sell potions for about 20 times that I can't help feeling this isn't meant to happen. :p

I'm torn between thinking of myself as Severus Snape, potions master and dabbler in the Dark Arts OR the Swedish Chef from the Muppets. I'm either poisoning my arrows with powerful potions or I'm dipping my arrows in some incredibly dangerous stews before launching them at people.

Either way, the idea of a tomato sandwich being able to not only heal me but also enable me to win a game of hide and seek (deteck life up to about 70 feet for 11 minutes) makes me chuckle. Please someone tell me I'm not the only one, I think I'd get worried if I was. :)

You're a Pokemon fan so I imagine you have "collectemallitis". :p You see an unattended farm. ACQUIRE ALL THE CORN. You see a bunch of bushes. HARVEST THUSLY. :p

It's a fun skill. I mean, being over-encumbered by watermelons is silly, annoying, and unrealistic, but sometimes I like to mix them with Daedroth Teeth so I can give off an idle glow. It's a nice touch... :p

Oblivion is also the only place where you can make a potion by combining a cheese wheel and a cheese wedge. :D

Honestly I never did much with alchemy until a play through this year as a witch-hunter, where I found it pretty cool to put a bunch of poisons on my arrows. My character with the most hours on Oblivion was a pretty much pure mage Breton that used a few fun custom spell effects to devastate enemies distracted by her atronach friends.

The alchemy skill leveling speed seems to be drastically reduced in skyrim though, especially compared to the returning "enchanting" skill.

There's nothing a good cheese sauce can't fix... also the vineyards around Skingrad may not be making as much wine this year as the vines seem to have mysteriously yielded far less grapes than expected. On the other hand, stores in the local area seem to have found themselves inundated with mysteriously high quality restore fatigue potions... local guards say the two things are unrelated. ;)

I find that pumpkins, watermelons and lettuces tend to get left behind by me unless I'm buying them just to turn them into potions to sell right back. And now, I think I should to finish saving Kvatch... I wonder if I can turn a BLT sandwich into a deadly weapon capable of fighting off legions of demons... or perhaps make a baked potato with a cheese sauce capable of saving my ass from them. :p

Alchemy higher than athleticism? Wow. :p

I'm so glad Athleticism has gone in Skyrim...

But yeah, back on topic, alchemy is fun! And easy! So it's not surprising most people find their alchemy skill way above everything else at first. It's hard to NOT forage for stuff when it's RIGHT THERE. And it's even harder not to turn it into cool stuff once you've got it. :p

And in Skyrim you don't even need those pesky utensils, taking up precious Mountain Flower space!

But, also, it's much harder to level alchemy in Skyrim. I make dozens of of potions every time I see an alchemy station and I'm still only at around 35 Alchemy at Level 21.

Smithing, though... Get yourself some Leather and Leather Strips and make a bucket full of leather bracers. You can get your Smithing to the 50's without trouble fairly cheaply.

Or just delve in the ruins below Markarth. More dwarven ingots than you will know what to do with. I ended up getting all the way to 100 with Dwarven Bows.
