jhd1 Posted May 7, 2013 Author Share Posted May 7, 2013 THE RETURN OF TERRY THUNDER [THUNDERVERSE] A TEW2013 DIARY WELCOME TO THE RETURN OF TERRY THUNDER! THE DIARY This diary will follow Thunder Championship Wrestling from its birth, hopefully to its peak, although depending on how long that takes we might end up somewhere in the middle! The diary will focus largely on the in-ring product, which will be much less 'precise' than my previous AWF diary (in that it won't be word-for-word). However, rather than Brian Jack's blog, the game's oddities, mechanics, twists and turns will be represented in a variety of in-game formats such as Chatterbox, FaceSpace, and website interviews. Something missing from my last two diaries was the interaction between other writers - if anyone wants to get involved writing up some between show posts then feel free to PM me and we'll put something together. THE SETUP Thunder Championship Wrestling is a promotion at the upper reaches of regional (D- pop across the US) and is based in the Tri-State area (the WWWE link, plus there are too many South West promotions!). The product is a slightly tweaked version of the Attitude Entertainment preset with a 50% match ratio for TV and 70% for events. I am using Terry Thunder as an avatar using the "Hustler" user talent preset (high negotiating and diplomacy, terrible everything else). I am playing as the owner of TCW. I used the editor to give the National Pride TV network two TV slots as I only realised after starting the game (and hiring most of the roster) that I couldn't sign a deal with any of the networks as they already had shows (and Pop! X own The Club). I figured Terry Thunder would be enough motivation for them to bend the rules a little. I did try to get a PPV contract too, but apparently no matter what settings you use regional is too small to be accepted. At least it gives TCW something to work towards! THE PLAN Shows are being written as they are run in-game. This not only helps with booking future shows (as I can pre-book them more logically), but it also means that I won't fall behind as was the case with the AWF. The style of writing is more of a summary than the AWF diary, although I believe it works just as well if not better, as I wasn't always entirely happy with the characterisations in Live The Revolution. I already have the first nine shows booked and fully written, so things should move fairly smoothly. TCW will not always be the perfectly booked promotion. I will obviously be aiming to do well and tell a story, but at the same time I want to tell a realistic story and not game the system. I might not want Jack Bodydrop, but Terry Thunder might. INSPIRATION I was initially going to post links to a variety of diaries that inspired me to write this game in particular, but I think the list would be longer than the rest of the post together! In no particular order... Sebsplex, MJStark & MichiganHero - the three members of the ThunderVerse team with diary's under their belt are also the people I turn to for advice which always works out perfectly for me! MJStark's FaceSpace template is also awesome! These three have also provided renders, belt images, character ideas and bios to the ThunderVerse that will feature heavily in this diary. angeldelayette - his diaries are always superb, and having re-read a couple of his USPW epics the booking is also extremely strong. 20LEgend - recently started a new USPW diary after what seemed to be a long hiatus. His earlier diaries were a lot of fun too! Eisen-Verse - doesn't really need explaining. The way he moulded a new promotion in DOA into his own definitely helped my belief that I could do the same with TCW. Powerful_Fox - like EV, his new ThunderVerse SWF diary was all the proof I needed that a new promotion can immediately become your own. I may have borroed "The Model" Caleb Adonis from him too Bigpapa42 - always an enormous help, BP is a genious storyteller and all of his diaries are a must read. NoNeck - I really enjoyed NN's take on PWI and his cut down style was a big inspiration for the show writing in this diary. TheEnforcer & James0 - both strong writers in their own right, it is their phenomenal renders and the characters that formed around them that inspired me to take on a smaller company in the ThunderVerse rather than a more established company. Many of their images will be used throughout this diary, I'm sure! kanegan - has worked wonders with GWS and really pushed Ares as a must hire! Plus several other people I'm sure I have missed out. I'll keep editing this post as I think of them! I have now updated the second post with the game setup, plan, inspirations etc. As mentioned in that post the first nine shows have been booked and written so things should move quite swiftly to begin with. I'll give another day to allow people to predict with a view to posting the show sometime on Thursday. Particularly as this won't be an in-game prize, the prediction contest will be weighted to allow people to miss some shows (as is often the case) without falling too far behind. I enjoyed the last diary and it really helped me get back into the swing of diary writing properly (I hadn't really written a long-term diary since Under Pressure in 2011), but I think TCW, the style and my greater experience with the game itself will all make this a better diary than AWF. These two posts are meant to show the unusual scheduling for TCW Breakthrough taping. Currently that schedule is Monday Week 1, Tuesday Week 1, Monday Week 3, Tuesday Week 3 - this is achieved by rescheduling the taping date before each show. There is, in reality, no real reason to do this other than it provides a somewhat realistic scheduling system whereby I can use the same venue for both shows and then move on for the next two. I would, if I could, probably do the two shows on the same night but this is the nearest I can get! Fortunately I haven't forgotten to change the day yet!
