What's going on in your game?

Recommended Posts

<p>Been a LONG time since I've had the chance to post here, but I just picked up my old CornellVerse game that I did a diary on for a while (essentially, Christian Faith runs a promotion in Texas called Southern Championship Wrestling). I'm in 2019 now, and I'm still having a blast.</p><p> </p><p>

Ross Henry remains my champion/figurehead, and seems to be locked in eternal struggles with 46-year-old machine Buddy Garner (who has only recently showed the first signs of time decline) and Rogue, who we snagged a few years ago. However, this is going to change. Garner and Rogue both feel they've outgrown my promotion, and they'll be leaving within the next six months.</p><p> </p><p>

Fortunately, I've got some options waiting in the wings, and there's something for everyone. John McClean has had a few short runs with the top belt, and despite being on the decline, he's very over and can still bring the goods in the right setting. Sonny Wildside has blossomed into our #2 babyface, despite being just 24 years old. He can work with anyone, and I've particularly enjoyed putting him with guys like Jacob Jett, Jormungand, and Jagged for spot-fests. Scythe is also extremely over and has worked some killer matches for us, but he got hurt working a hardcore match in PSW in late-2018 and is on the mend. The timing could not have been worse, as he was in line to go over Christian Faith himself at SCW Season's Greetings (our traditional year-end show)</p><p> </p><p>

I've also built up Logan Wolfsbaine, Grave Digger, Bret Heartbreak, Angel of Mercy, and El Hijo Del Zonk, while also signing guys like Petr Novak, Hell's Bouncer, High Flyin Hawaiian, and Stevie Grayson. In addition, I've secured working agreements with North of the Border Pro Wrestling and Burning Hammer of the Wrestling Gods, which has led to guys like Edd Stone and Greg Gauge (who started with us before signing over there) coming in for short spurts.</p><p> </p><p>

At some point, Henry's going to get poached, like several significant workers before him (Lenny Brown just got signed by SWF, and that hurt). When he leaves, I'm probably hosed. However, for the time being, I'm having an absolute blast mixing people I'm building up with cast-offs the big guys don't believe in.</p>

So I've been planning out a new promotion, although knowing how I operate I'll probably play a few in-game weeks and then try something new. [Note that I'm aware I'm twisting a bit of Cornellverse law - its part of the storytelling.

Following the selling of his shares at TCW, Tommy Cornell left the company and made a few appearances at 21CW on a short-term, lucrative exclusive pay per appearance contract as he decided where his future lay.

Would he sign a full-time written contract at 21CW? Perhaps he'd join USPW or SWF in a move that would stun the masses? Or maybe he'd sign a contract in Japan or Mexico for something a bit different.

However, an interesting alternative was brought to his attention via the quirky billionaire genius Dunton Hall.

Hall was a long-time wrestling fan and had always been interested in entering the wrestling market with his own promotion.

The "Free Agency" of Tommy Cornell opened the door for Hall to make his big play - his pitch was to leverage the Cornell name - a universal brand in wrestling - to start a new promotion that had the potential to rise up and challenge the Big 3 of the US - and potentially even become a household name worldwide.

After much deliberation and discussion, it was finally made official - Cornell Wrestling Club (CWC) and the CWC Network were formed.

Tommy managed to convince his brother, Edward, to join him in this new project, while the SWF legend and disgruntled ex-employee Peter Michaels agreed to join the promotion to add another familiar face.

As far as wrestlers go, there were always going to be limitations to start - anyone with main-event level popularity is currently signed to a written contract, meaning that the onus will be on Cornell and co to build new stars from the brighest young talent in North America (including the likes of Greg Gauge, Nelson Callum, El Mitico, Gargantuan, Hell's Bouncer, and Sayeed Ali).

The big name value of Cornell and Hall meant that CWC has instantly earned itself a cult following, with many interested in how arguably the greatest Western wrestler of his generation and the world's most well-respected genius (and his billions) will take on the established big names of US and global wrestling.

I'd mercilessly bury him so hard. Just ask Paul Orndorff in my 1985 WWF game :D

I buried the crap out of vader before he ditched me. I thought I signed him to a written deal, but I guess it was only a exclusive ppa. He signed with new Japan for a touring deal and wouldn't put his name on a written deal for me.

So on his last show, he jobbed hard to the warrior. I think it was 5 minutes. Then later in the show he was put through a table but the warrior in the locker room.

Lastly he lost a bikini contest to ms. Elizabeth. Of course Randy savage laid him out after the bikini contest.

Safe to say, he was pretty upset. Oh well.

March 87 - August 2006

I'm finishing up current stories with Summer Slam and Great American Bash. I modified a narrative where Vince McMahon gets slammed by the IRS (again) and allows anyone to walk away from their contract.

Paul Heyman (who reformed ECW in May) is going to poach about 40 pieces of talent (Brock Lesnar, Kurt Angle, Chris Benoit, Bryan Danielson, CM Punk, Paul Wight, etc)

I plan on getting rid of the brand split (WWE and WCW) and only having one brand and a much smaller roster).

Raw - A show

Heat - B Show (Heat will only show Women and Cruiserweight talent)

On the way to WF 2017 and I'm so happy with the top of my roster right now (pictured above). All those guys are considered recognisable or better in terms of pop.</p><p> </p><p>

Jack has held the World title since the start of the game but (hopefully) he'll pass on the belt to ADV at WF D2 after ADV beats Alex and Jack beats Dan Stone Jr (Dream Match) on D1. Alex will then face Dan Stone Jr. on D2 for another dream match.</p><p> </p><p>

Ricky is facing off against Jay Chord and will beat him on D1, then Ricky will beat Skull DeBones on D2. Jay will then attack the youngest DeColt to continue that feud. </p><p> </p><p>

Seeker and Price are currently feuding with The New Wave and that will end at D1 as Price moves on to feud with Casey Valentine, debuting on D2. Seeker will then move onto Primus Allen to get him over.</p><p> </p><p>

Skull is going to lose to Warren Technique on D1 (DQ loss) putting out Warren for D2 but he'll return the Sunday afterwards and want a return match continuing that feud. </p><p> </p><p>

Dunn will face Garg at D1 and finally get a pinfall win on the giant after feuding since December. He'll then move on to feud with Marc DuBois after he beats Joey Poison on D1. </p><p> </p><p>

So, should be an interesting few months ahead. <img alt=":)" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/smile.png.142cfa0a1cd2925c0463c1d00f499df2.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" /></p><p> </p><p>

Here are the numbers for the amount of times guys appear in the top 10 matches for the company</p><p>

Jack DeColt - 6</p><p>

Guide - 5</p><p>

Christian Price - 4</p><p>

Marc DuBois - 4</p><p>

Ricky DeColt - 3</p><p>

Scout - 2</p><p>

Antonio Del Veccio - 2</p><p>

Thrill Seeker - 1</p><p>

Jay Chord - 1</p><p>

Gargantuan - 1</p><p>

Joe Sexy - 1</p><p>

Skull DeBones - 1</p>

Getting excited for TEW20, so I pulled up the Golden Age 87 mod.

Taking over JCP and trying to build toward the WCW purchase that comes up in 88. Couple of interesting things to get started.

The first, Ric Flair is already on the Time Decline, WTF? It what universe would Flair be on time decline in the late 80s?? This one apparently.

Signed Pillman and HBK, teamed them together as the Air Raiders to do a long term Rockers story.

Signed Sting to build him. I'm planning a trilogy for him against Tully for the TV title. But during that build, Road Warrior Animal tore his labrum and was out six months. Well, seems like a good opportunity to have Sting team with Hawk. It should be very helpful in getting Sting over and keep an early nudge to Sting vs the Horsemen.

the biggest problem here is that there really is no one to face Flair. Funk isn't available in the US at this point. I like Windham, but the matches just aren't aren't turning out how i'd like (or how they turned out in real life). So, I signed Bruiser Brody for a six-month contract to do a little run with that. We will see what happens.

<p>Ohhhhh, this one's gonna be fun.</p><p> </p><p>

I'm just finishing 2019 in the game I mentioned a few days ago (the one where Christian Faith runs a company in the Mid-South area). The big show is in December, W2, and we're in as good a position as we can be at this point.</p><p> </p><p>

Ross Henry just regained our World Championship by vanquishing the evil Scythe after a feud that lasted about six months. Both are at A popularity in Mid-South, and I've been expecting one or both of them to get poached for quite some time. Thankfully, it hasn't happened yet, partially due to some foresight on my part. I signed working agreements with both NOTBPW and BHOTWG, which eliminates two potential suitors from signing him to written contracts and also allows for some fun talent trades. Specifically, I'm hoping to bring Koshiro Ino to the States to feud with Henry in early-2020.</p><p> </p><p>

The angle that made my #2 babyface, however, may be my favorite one that I've ever put together. So Christian Faith and John McClean had been picking on Sonny Wildside for months. They even went so far as to chase Edd Stone out of the promotion (I got him in a trade with NOTBPW, but I got annoyed when Stone invoked his creative control clause). Finally, Wildside couldn't take it anymore and summoned...Jack Bruce. Yes, THAT Jack Bruce, who was somehow open to working with us prior to retiring. They worked a tag match where Wildside pinned Faith clean as a sheet, and all of a sudden, Wildside (who begins 2016 as a spot monkey with only a small modicum of technical skill) is at B popularity in the region and is a legit main-eventer.</p><p> </p><p>

Raids have, of course, hurt me, and my midcard took a bunch of big hits. RAW is growing out of Australia, and they poached three of my top prospects (Brodie Lachlan, Kian Owens, and Grave Digger) in one fell swoop. SOTBPW took Jormungand (who I'd been grooming as the early-2020 challenger to Ross Henry) and El Hijo Del Zonk, TCW took Petr Novak and multiple-time tag champion Angel of Mercy, and USPW took Floyd Goldworthy, who had recruited The Ring Generals and Logan Wolfsbaine to a fun stable I coined the Gold Club. Also, Peter Michaels's contract is up, and he's decided not to renew with us. Thankfully, I secured the services of Mitch Naess to replace him in the announcer's booth.</p><p> </p><p>

The Ring Generals are my tag champs. Logan Wolfsbaine turned face by beating up Goldworthy at the big show. BISON Yano and Killer Shark have teamed up with manager Carl Batch to form a tag team I'm calling Surf and Turf, which may be my favorite TEW creation ever, and Atlas and Beast Bantom make for a fun monster tag team as well. I've also gotten a few 21CW rejects. Of note, Darin Flynn is a huge prospect for us, provided we get lucky enough to keep him around for a while, and Assassin and Pinfall Peters are kicking around, too.</p><p> </p><p>

There are a lot of bullets to dodge with this game, but I'm having a blast right now. Having said that, ask me again once Ross Henry gets a call from one of the big boys, and chances are my response is quite different!</p>

<p>Been thinking about Ring of Honor, and how for a television subsidiary they really don't do a good job of marketing or promoting themselves or their successes. Got me thinking about who's been around that could do that kind of job, and well... Eric Bischoff's been out of WWE for a while, hasn't he?</p><p> </p><p>

I'm going to try and look up a good recent database to try and play around with, and see if Bischoff can work some of that early WCW magic.</p>

<p>Started up a small Kanzen game as my last save on TEW 2016. </p><p> </p><p>

Booking fast, three shows a week. Ultimate goal is to start my own subscription network and never run shows outside of hawaii, just expand through the network. </p><p> </p><p>

Main players are hometown hero Clark Alexander, Team Gold (Raphael and Simon Waves) and Fox Mask. Giving Fearless Blue, Jose Flamenco, Hawkeye Calhoun and Mascara Delfin prominent time in the beginning on our way to regional. </p><p> </p><p>

Been fun trying to use characters I haven't in saves in the previous four years. Excited to see how far I get before TEW 2020.</p>

Made it to regional!

Took 49 shows from their starting place (I believe I booked one show with no popularity growth).

Bank balance down to about $650,000 which is still plenty. I haven't gone on massive signing sprees, I've added more people at the bottom of the card to fill out the comedy division. Only characters consistently in the main event that I didn't mention before are Silver Tiger and The Sensational Singh. At the start of the game I bumped all of our production values up so we didn't get dinged for any penalties. We spend $7,000-$8,000 per show.

I'd prefer to not sign any big pop free agents or overly talented workers but the temptation is always there. Since we are running a lot of shows I'm hoping the entertainment stats of these workers keeps improving, giving us better angle grades/show grades with them and slowly more pop in Hawaii. If we stay on pace and run 150 shows this first year and keep the roster around 20-25 I should be able to get everyone's entertainment stats in a pretty high range.

Goal is still to only run shows in Hawaii and not expand to any outside regions. Raise our pop high enough here that we are turning a profit and then stockpile the money on our way to making our own broadcaster to cover America. Once we do that, we will start gaining popularity everywhere and can look to cult but that will take awhile.

Yet another one last save before the new game. haha

I was watching the Ruthless Aggression series and it got me in the mood for a game. Not from 2002 though. I'm using the war of the immortal's database. All these different WWF's running around, and NWO. So no Hogan in WWF classic (my chosen destination). This was good for me because I'd probably end up going with him as the top gun. Yawn zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz I'm still a Hilkamaniac forever, Jack.

Just booked a couple of superstars shows leading up to the royal rumble. Going to have the winner become the WWFC champion. All the titles are vacant at the start of the game. I like it.

My user character is Stacy Keibler. Yeah, I wanted a change. Mike Tyson in as the, hmmm, I'm not sure what to call him, head of security? Well, he's just there to make sure I don't get messed around by all these vintage hotheads. Then I go and sign The Dynamite Kid. :p I couldn't refuse because he is not all broken down. Quite excited about the cruiserweight title future. I can't get in Rey yet but I have Dynamite Kid, Liger, Styles, Danielson and ''Iron'' Mike Sharpe.

Odds are in for the royal rumble. Here are the main men according to Jim Ross.

Randy Savage is the favourite

''There is your winner, right there.'' Vader time.

Roddy Piper

The Ultimate Warrior.

Turned our first profit heading into the month of August. $34,000 earned, total balance at $618,000.

Popularity gain has been a little tougher. Economy (5) and Wrestling Industry (17) have been falling since the start of the save which has added to the difficulty. We are up to 42 popularity and 31 importance. Our shows have about 1,800 people showing up right now, once the economy and wrestling industry go up the margins should be a bit better and we can continue to earn money towards our network.

We are not killing it with shows grades. Sometimes we gain pop, sometimes we don't. Since we don't have to have regional battles I want to continue to work with the guys that brought us here and have them improve as much as possible even if it just means middling grades for now. We averaged a 53 show grade over our 12 events in July.

So I had a great C-Verse idea which in hindsight may not be a great idea.

Basically, Duke Hazard decides to open a performance based women's company in the midwest, but the catch is it seems he's only hiring the most physically attractive talent, leading some to speculate that this is just a way for Duke to surround himself with beautiful women.

And of course, I made the rule that the the 3 workers on my roster with the highest sex appeal are getting pushed no matter what and any free agent with a sex appeal of 75 or higher is a snap contract. Could be interesting.

Just a general question. Do most of you play with known ratings for all the wrestlers or keep them hidden and learn how the players are.

Known because I mostly play "training promotions" where developing talent is my goal and I like to see who is growing and who isn't.

The natural thing to do was get into bed with some working agreements with the other versions of WWF.

Piper and Savage is the main feud. Piper defeated Honky Tonk Man ay Saturday night main event in a wild brawl to earn the title shot at Wrestlemania.

Strike Force will face Money Inc for the tag team titles. They defeated the Nasty Boys to earn the shot. Money Inc defeated Demolition. Going ro copy real life and turn Martel into the model. Wrestlemania will be the time.

Have I been watching too much anime? lol Nah, I don't watch it at all. :p Nobody has seen the Ultimate Warrior in a couple of weeks. It will turn out that he was drugged and captured by Jake Roberts, tied up and left in the middle of nowhere. Jake has been assisted by snake oil business, the Joey Ryan and Brooklyn Brawler tag team. Why not? Yeah, this is another one of those I'm sort of copying real life. Taking bits from the Warrior and Jake Roberts stuff.

Wrestlemania is looking something like this.

World Title: Randy Savage vs Roddy Piper

Vacant IC Title: Mr Perfect vs RVD.

Vacant tag team Titles: Money Inc vs Strike Force

Light heavyweight title: Jushin Liger vs Dynamite Kid. (hyped)

Ken Shamrock vs The Nasty Boys. (Nasty boys are going to get killed here. lol I had Shamrock make his debut at SNME. He came out and distracted the Nasty Boys. Then they ran away.)

Bryan Danielson vs AJ Styles. (Danielson has been helping out Dynamite Kid vs Liger and Styles. We had a 88 rated tag team match on superstars. It breathed life into me to get this save going after most matches were in the 50-60 range. Powers of Pain vs The Bushwackers just wasn't getitng it done. Bushwackers drunk every match. )

Jake Roberts vs The Ultimate Warrior.

Brutus the barber vs Greg Valentine. (I'm planning on putting the hair on the line but I'm not sure if Valentine will be up for it. )

The Natural Disasters vs The Twin Towers.

Vader is my top monster heel but not sure what to do with him yet. Haku has been on a roll. Looks like it will be Vader vs Haku. Vader can beat him then the Undertaker can come in on motorbike post-match to set up their program.

Pre-show

Drew Mcintyre (being pushed as cool babyface rookie) vs The Berzerker

Demolition and Kerry Von Erich vs Snake Oil Business and Iron Mike Sharpe.

First match: Fenix vs Tiger Mask.

I just found this funny. Running a tag match on my B show and it rated around what I expected (low to mid 80s) but the fact that everyone got 100 in in-ring performance but the match lacked psychology and selling was hilarious.

(I just take it to mean that they gave it their all and performed extremely well but their deficiencies got the match dinged)

Help With A Stable Name?

I got a heel stable that I've been slowly trying to piece together, but honestly, I can't seem to get a good enough name for them.

The members are:

Jack Bruce (who I turned heel into like a Jericho in AEW type)

Bulldozer Cristian Smith

Big Bruiser Findlay

Randy Wolfe (aka Randy Bumfhole).

They're suppose to be my version of the Inner Circle, though, i rather use a more creative name than that, and I do plan on adding a woman and someone else eventually.

Mind helping me out?

Too short, as well.

Probably the length that did it in.

Yeah, I was just about to say that too. Needed to be 20 min.

That match was never going to max out. The workers involved have low to mid 80s popularity, they're not overly skilled, and the announcing would've gotten it dinged if it went much higher. The best that could've been expected is like an 88 and that's not what I need from my midcard. Especially not on a B show. These teams have faced each other before (think New Day and the Usos) so I knew what to expect. I just found it funny that they overachieved and still got criticized. If Bristol Rovers beats Man City, no one's going to talk about how many key passes Bristol Rovers didn't have.

Update time, as Southern Championship Wrestling is into March of 2020. God, I'm going to miss this game when the new TEW comes out.

Ross Henry and Koshiro Ino had several ridiculously good matches in early-2020. Ino's final match in the company was supposed to be a Last Man Standing match with Henry, which he lost. However, his Burning Hammer contract came due, and for whatever reason (maybe because he was on loan to me at the time), they only signed him to a PPA deal, not a written one. I jumped at the chance to sign him to a PPA deal of my own, and bam, all of a sudden I have one of my favorite workers in the CornellVerse on my full-time roster. He's 42, but has yet to enter time decline, and I'm already mapping out a storyline with Scythe.

Sonny Wildside, unfortunately, tore his quad in a PSW match and has missed the past few months. With surgery, though, he'll be back in late-April. In his absence, Logan Wolfsbaine and High Flyin Hawaiian have moved up the card as viable faces. Wolfsbaine has been working with John McClean, who has thrown fits when asked to lose. However, Logan's getting over by osmosis, and I'm stretching the feud out as long as I can until he gets over enough to win without McClean getting cranky over it.

Old friends Buddy Garner and Sean McFly have both announced their retirements. Garner still insists he's done with us (sigh...), but McFly's open to a return, which I may have to make happen. Rogue is also open to coming back, but he's on a significant time decline, so I'll need to be careful about how I do that should I pursue it.

Elsewhere, GSW decided they were hostile towards us in late-2019, but this proved to be a horrible mistake. They were bleeding money so badly that I was able to engineer a takeover. This brought Fro Sure, Brother Grimm, and American Flash into the fold while pillaging everything else. NYCW also doesn't like us, but they're in a far more stable financial situation.

We're running weekly shows now and bringing in profits well north of $100k a month. Weeks 2 and 4 are the big shows in Mid South that draw about 10,000 people, and weeks 1 and 3 are secondary shows in the South East that draw 2,000. SCW may very well hit "cult" in the next year or so. If and when that happens, it will bring some interesting scenarios into play. The next step after that is locking down talent to written contracts and seeking some TV distribution. Can we get there without losing any of our biggest players? Stay tuned!
