TEW2020 Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

With the game coming out so soon, I have to say that I really thought the handling of the announcement of TEW 2020 and the hype for TEW 2020 were letdowns. I am obviously going to buy the game at the zero hour, but TEW 2020 has been a thing since December 2018. The developer's journal, where most of the features were announced ended, in July 2019, and we have sporadically been getting minor updates and minor features since then. It's hard to be outrageously excited about the game when you're waiting so long.

No idea why you're getting so much hate. I kind of feel the same way.

I will 100% buy the game and am eagerly waiting for it to come out so I can lose my life to it. The hype has died down massively for myself and I'm just not that excited for it until its like a week away. There being a release date now is nice, however, and helps quite a bit.

I think obviously a lot of the blame for the way you and I (and probably others) feel is due to us. TEW 2020 was going to develop the way it was going to develop and its no ones fault (pretty sure you understand that).

We just want the product here and now because that's just the way things are anymore. But I'm confident when we get teh final product it will already be polished and ready to go. I'm excited - but I've had to dull it down because there's no reason to get excited for something that is still miles away.

So I understand where you're coming from - I do think its your (and my) own fault.

Yea, the way the Journal was structured this time around did not really build up hype. It was like the main event of WrestleMania was early on, or in the middle of the card, and we got the US and Tag title matches to end the show. This was discussed a few times earlier, and Derek mentioned something about how the way the game was developed this time around necessitated the Journal to be structured like this.

This is exactly why I don't obsessively follow things until they're way closer to being finished. I can't even remember when I first heard about TEW 2020, but I know it wasn't in 2018, and after I heard about it I basically stayed away from the TEW forums aside from a few check backs every 4 months or so to see what the FAQ was saying about release dates. Other than thatt, I put it out of my head and focused on things that were coming out much sooner. It's a good practice, even with major AAA releases, because many devs seem to announce games waaaaaay too early, and then go radio silent for a year or two before trickling out info to build up an endless hype (only for the game to be delayed after we finally get a release date, natch). I think, for people who don't like waiting for games, it's best not to follow the development of any game too closely (I say as I check every weekly dev diary for Crusader Kings 3...>_< <_<).

Indeed. The journal needed to give a lot of scope for a lot of features that needed user input early on so that things could be tested and later applied to the Cornellverse too. It meant the journal peaked pretty early but it was the only way to get user input for things like attributes, product types and the upgraded gimmicks feature as well as discussion on a lot of other features that have helped shaped the game as a whole.

If the journal was done more like it had been in the past there would have been a huge chance of having many great features not make the cut at all as they'd have only been suggested very late into the game cycle. As it stands, we've managed to fit in as much as possible, drawing ideas from as many people as possible AND the game is looking to release on the early side of the original development window. Which is mindblowing from my side of things given the scope of everything that has been done so far. :)

Testing also continues to go well. I left a converted CV97 sim running overnight and it's still going in 2004 now. No idea how the game world has played out yet, but I'm gonna have a peak soon I think. :)

I think where the world is right now and where it's likely heading, this release could not be better timed and will provide some much needed entertainment and diversion.

Having played Adam's games, not obsessively but consistently, all the way back to the EWR games this release could see a revival of the modding scene which has felt as stale as modern day WWE. Not on quality but on variety. The amount of input required for current databases to be detailed and balanced requires massive effort and props to those that continue to release what is out there. But people having a lot of time in their hands in the forthcoming months will hopefully bring more new faces and ideas back to the community (one in which I myself watch but dont really partake).

Looking forward to it...

What's the release date? I can't find it in the dev journal.

It also doesn't seem like a pre-editor is all that much needed. The conversion from 2016>2020 seems like it'll be fairly easy with minimal adjustments to begin playing. If that's the case, mod makers should be able to fill in those blanks easier than before. You'll have a one-week head start before the full release and almost anyone who has ever followed this series knows that RW mods take time. Nobody expects 50 mods on day 1 and anybody that does has really high and unrealistic expectations.</p>

Honestly, I expected the FAQ to tackle way more obvious questions like:

1. Is Nicky Champion champ again?

2. Is Eisen going to hand the reigns to his son?

3. Will BriCo force TCW back into some sort of Hollyweird-like construction?

4. Will NOTBPW finally get some respect for the women's division?

5. Will 21CW conquer Yurop?

etc.

But noooo... let's bother Adam with technical questions.

The anticipated for the games release is killing me. Im playing WCW 89 and am loving it but it feels like a waste since the game is coming soon. Hope it comes sooner then later. Im glad i got into the cverse the past year too because it a way its much moee better than the real world stuff in its own right. Curious to see where Greg Gauge, Frankie Perez, KILLER SHARK, etc went. I wonder if Angry Gilmore is still keeping at it?
