The Road to Glory Challenge

End of Year 2019

I got tired of bashing my head against the brick wall of a wrestling industry in the toilet so I dialed back to one show a month. That meant that pretty much everyone did worse, particularly when I started using auto-booking. Still feels like a trek to reach Cult. Although now we're entering the +.5 pop a show range it should be doable this year.

Having become the figurehead I went ahead and put the title on myself in the middle of the year. I'm trying to figure a way to get it off myself again as it feels wrong to be winning all the time. I need to rehaul all my storylines as well as they have pretty much drifted while we were at one show a month.

End of 2016

2016 Roll: 35 Making Movies - +5 Star Quality, miss a month

2017 Roll: 30 You can dance if you wanna. +5 Safety

2018 Roll: 47 A New Beginning: Change to any style. I've absolutely no idea what style I'm looking for. I guess Entertainer although that might hold me back in my current promotion.

2019 Roll: 5 Gain strong friendship with Logan Wolfsbaine. Maybe I'll get to be part of the clique now.

King of New York (ME): David Narcizo

Pennsylvania Title (Midcard): Cobra

Tag Titles: American Elemental II/Dragón Americano (American Dragons)

Duke of the Bronx (Tournament): Felipe Caballero

Top wrestlers have actually gone down because of the lack of matches and lack of quality control on the shows. Hopefully that will pick up now that I'm going to be taking full control again.

Has anyone ran into issues with him developing an attitude? He isn't a negative influence, but he won't lose to anyone (in late 2016) without a keep strong note.

Very negative influence for me. I think I pushed him too hard and praised him too much - but it's easy to get carried away when he pulls great matches off against anyone. He also picked up a painkiller habit from The Architect. He doesn't mind jobbing though and my locker room can take the v negative influence without too much concern now. I have a bigger problem with workers who are over in the whole of the US as they get in a strop if they job to someone who's more popular in our home region (you know the area that actually matters to a regional or less promotion). - Yes I'm looking at you Star Master.

I have him pushed at midcard and he hasn't complained and he jobs without complaint. He does put on great matches. I suppose because I didn't hire straight him straight out of the gate a few other workers, including my UC, got more over and so he hasn't caught up yet.

Smooth sailing the rest of the way. Four shows a month, two in Tri-State, two in New England. I improved from 70k profit per month in February to 209k at the end of the year. He was the guy who injured The Architect, getting him on pain-killers. oh and Danger Kuwasara, who turned half the locker against him. Luckily I smoothed (ahem) things over there. To be honest I'm not sure why I kept him after all the grief he caused. He always seems to miss out on feuds for some reason as well - the nearest thing he's had is a long-running, on-off-on feud with Seth Whitehead. Who's in the same boat. I guess I should use his as a gatekeeper.

How many shows should I be running at the start? I tried running a show once every two months using a hardcore product (obviously that didn't work). So I'm going to be doing another attempt tomorrow with a product more favourable towards sponsorship. Anyway my question is should I be running weekly shows for the first few months, then cool it off?

I just started running 3 shows a month as I'm 1 point of popularity from regional. 1st month of 3 shows I did the bare minimum workers per show and made over 20k. I've upped my production values to pro so no more penalties there. This is beginning to get good!

Urgh!

Did the way broadcasters work get changed in 2013? When I played if you got to Cult there's was always a broadcaster you could get. Now you have to be popular in 8 regions or so. Now I understand about sticking in just one region and getting big enough to buy your own broadcaster. Oterwise it's a case of going on the road a lot and probably losing a lot of money on the way. Well that sucks. Either way is going to take a long time.

Ya I got the guys with the lowest wages possible, had one referee and just had the wrestles swap road agent duty. I think with products that don't yield much sponsorship this still might be necessary.

Yes! He's been a favorite of mine since 2013, and he is my #1 heel at the moment. Good matches, good skills. He didn't come up as a NBT, but was a top prospect before he got out of the midcard. I'm planning to hang on to him as long as possible.

It depends a lot on your location. To get TV in Puerto Rico you just need to have pop there, there's also a TV for the whole Eastern Coast where you only need to be regional. Canal Dos in Mexico has some coverage in the US and works with cult companies no matter the pop.

But yeah, getting a deal if you're in Northwest or South East sounds very hard, Great Lakes too.

Just finished my first year, and we are almost small, but are now in regional battles, which we finished last in the Great Lakes. I am currently the Champ, and I won it without making myself scripted to win. Slowly improving in all areas. I rolled a 26 which helped me very low toughness stat.

One route that will almost always work is to run as many shows as possible early on. The only time this may not work is with a garbage Industry, however, since your Pop gains will be wretched. If you want to go this route fairly realistically, 4 shows a month for 4-5 month will make you pretty high on income the second half of your first year without too much of a debt. After your monthly sponsorship incomes are very solid you can switch to monthly shows and make your debt back over the next half of the year. This also gives your UC a lot of ring-experience to develop faster.

If you have a really good Industry, you could go the even more realistic route of monthly shows--Your Pop will still climb moderately fast and you'll become profitable in a more "natural" progression curve.

The thing to remember is that you need to minimize costs as much as possible. 6 in-ring workers and a ref at sub-300 PPA deals will keep you from hemorrhaging money. It may be worth investing in one decent worker who can train up your UC in dark matches during this time, even if he costs 400 a show. Remember that at this level your sponsorship is the critical income component to become profitable. Track its progress in your finances every month so you can understand when you'll be safe to switch strategy. You'll also have about 18 months to get your finances into the black AS LONG AS your Org debuts January 2016. It's okay if it takes you all 18 months in a bad industry to get out of debt.

Mathematically speaking, the more shows you run in the beginning the more efficient you can complete the challenge. Worst case scenario (F- Econ and Industry) means running 30 shows the first month and coasting after that, for instance.

The problem there is that it only covers 4 areas which is pretty much useless - more so Puerto Rico which (pointlessly) covers one area that you'll pop anyway.

I'm going for a brand split -one in the MA to get the East Coast gig - and another in Texas to get spillover in 3 other areas to aim for the 8 areas. Auto- book comes into its own in this situation.

If you get a deal with Canal Dos, you can get a deal with OnDem, they demand at least 45 pop in 5 regions, you have two already if you're cult, and you get pop in Mexico. It does take about a year, at least for me.

But now I'm with OnDem or whatever they're called and have coverage everywhere except Japan.

Yeah - my strategy has been completely wrong from the start because I was playing based on what you did in 2007 or 2010. I should have started my second region as MidSouth rather than New England, and gone full brand split from that point onwards.

But OnDem does look doable if I can get the East Coast TV Show and just move my Texas branch up to the Great Lakes where I have spillover from the TriStates. That should actually work. I think it should take about a year from now to get on On Dem.

Thanks for the advice. :) I was close to throwing in the towel on this or restarting.
