WMMA5 Developer's Journal Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

<p>The hype is real!</p><p> </p><p>

Excellent job, Adam and team. Given that the journal has completed and you haven't even covered 50% of the changes/additions is genuinely exciting.</p><p> </p><p>

Look forward to hearing about more progress and waiting for a release date.</p>

You and I are in total agreement, as I said I will be buying it the first day it comes out.</p><p> </p><p> What I was saying was there was not one feature that stood out to me that made me say to myself, "This feature alone makes me want to buy this game." Instead there were a lot of smaller features that made me want to buy this game.</p><p> </p><p> For instance, when tournaments were first introduced into the series that feature alone made me want to buy whatever version of the game it was added into (I cannot recall if it was WMMA 2 or 3) and when tournaments were removed in WMMA 4 I thought about not buying that version because I loved that feature.</p><p> </p><p> With this upcoming version there was nothing that stood out to me that made me make this an instant buy (not even the return of tournaments). However there were a lot of little features that when combined make me want to buy this version of the series.</p><p> </p><p> <em>Edited to add:</em> I grew to enjoy WMMA 4 as well even without the tournaments. In fact I still play the game, having last played it a few days ago. My only minor gripe with WMMA 4 was all of the new renders that replaced the renders for established characters. Granted there were some older renders that were not as good as the replacement renders but there was no need to replace the James Foster render (Just using that one as an example because that was the one I remembered off the top of my head).</p>

My biggest request for WMMA 5... Mac OS support, got a Macbook Pro and don't want to use some hacky way to get it working on it <img alt=":(" data-src="//content.invisioncic.com/g322608/emoticons/frown.png.e6b571745a30fe6a6f2e918994141a47.png" src="<___base_url___>/applications/core/interface/js/spacer.png" />

<p>Bit disappointed in the lack of improvement with the teams feature, especially given dynamic teams changing in training quality was a promised feature for 4 that wasn’t actually in the game for some reason.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

#80 Team Stay Length</p><p> </p><p>

In previous games there was a hidden counter that dictated how long a fighter would remain with a team, but this led to people leaving at odd times as it was simply a countdown. This has been replaced with an entirely new approach that takes into account context (primarily recent results) to make things more realistic. This allows fighters to quit teams when things aren't working out, but for successful partnerships to be more likely to stay together.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p> </p><p>

This was like verbatim in the WMMA4 journal... sooo.</p>

To the people complaining about what hasn't been added...

That concludes the Developer's Journal. As mentioned earlier, this doesn't include everything that has been added, but you can view all 380+ changes and additions in-game via the What's New? button that you'll find on the title screen.

Just because it hasn't been mentioned doesn't mean it hasn't been addressed. More than literally HALF of the additions/changes weren't even in the dev journal.

On the other hand, perhaps some of your complaints are justified; maybe the feature you wanted to be included ISN'T in the game. But the point is, you won't actually know if a feature you're whining about being absent actually is absent until the game/demo is released.

So save all of the belly-aching until you actually know what is and isn't in the game. Otherwise, this thread is gonna devolve into 50 pages of people complaining about things they're not even sure of and others arguing against the merit/justification of the complaint.

<p>Yep, the only way to properly assess it will be to try the demo.</p><p> </p><p>

4's biggest weaknesses came from what was removed; several of the particularised features in 5 are restored features from 3.</p><p> </p><p>

It sounds like there are a number of improvements, but the only way to be sure will be to try it out for yourself.</p>

<p>The two things that have sold me more than anything is a much improved fight engine and the ability to skip all of the slowdown and administrative BS between fights. </p><p> </p><p>

I like the fights and seeing how the CPU does the rankings even if I disagree or don't like it. That disagreement I see in actual MMA too so for me that makes it feel more realistic and it sounds like most of Adam's changes have been to add more realism to the game so I won't be surprised if the rankings are a bit better.</p><p> </p><p>

My only hope is that if the #2 contender loses twice to the guy with the belt they don't continue to stick there at #2 heck 1 loss usually in modern MMA drops a guy down to 5th or so and they have to work their way back.</p><p> </p><p>

For me WMMA4's weakness was the fight engine and the length of adminstrative crud. Watching two guys hug to a weak decision was the majority of matches I saw which lacked excitement. I'm hyped, thanks Adam for all the changes I hope we get to play it soon but as a guy who has been in IT QA for 10 years I totally get the importance of the testing time.</p>

Football manager 2018 & pes 2018,ea sports ufc 3 & wmma5. My only worry is finding the time in life to play all these games day by day & having to choose which one is my passion. I played wmma3 til wmma4 was released then i played wmma4 til me fingertips left marks on me keypad so roll on january where the addiction starts again :-D

What new TV system are you referring to?</p><p> </p><p> December/January is the perfect time to release an MMA game because UFC always puts on fantastic shows (this Saturday's card looks insane!) and you have wacky Japanese new year's shows on top of that. Gets me all hyped up for MMA and WMMA5 will be a great way to tap into that hype.</p>

It's just a part of the MMA world. This is a reflection of that, not personal morals or anything</p>

How powerful will the fight engine editor be? I mainly want to know if I will be able to use it to disable strikes completely (either turning their frequency down to 0% or their effectiveness to 0% and have the AI not use them). I really want to make a grappling only mod with orgs like ADCC, EBI, SUG, Polaris, etc... I know there will be now way to do the scoring system, but judges decisions will be a fine standin. I just want to know if its possible now because I would start work on the mod to get it out by release.

You can probably rig it to turn off almost all strikes in almost all circumstances, but I don't think you can turn off 100% of strikes in 100% of circumstances. The bottom line is that this is a simulator for Mixed Martial Arts (a specific defined sport) not mixed martial arts (a variety of different disciplines), and ADCC and the like are simply not the sport being covered in this game.
